- #ilovervlife #rvstorage #rvorganization The RV storage area or garage can become one of the more unorganized areas in your RV. Things get piled in, broken items crammed in the back, that place where things haven’t been used in over a year and probably never will be used again. If you’ve owned an RV for at least a year, you know the drill. For those new to the RV lifestyle or maybe a reminder for those who have camped for much longer periods, here are a few tips about packing your RV storage area.
ilovervlife.co... Check out our RV Accessories where we have listed a wide range of products from essential items to those "nice to have" RV products to make RV life more enjoyable. Every item listed is being used or has been used by Joan and I as we've traveled across the country in our RV.
Products discussed in this video:

Love to see you and Joan. My husband has had Cancer we have not camped in 2 yrs. I get to travel with you and Joan. My Mom is my camping buddy she is 89. We love to see you and Joan keep them coming
Hi Brenda and many thanks. We’re so glad you can come along. We hope your husband is beating cancer and will be able to return to RV travel soon.
Bought my first rv yesterday. Love your channel Sir. Thank you so much for teaching me what to do.
My pleasure Juan. So glad we could share. Welcome to RV life!
Hi Jerry, thank you for giving us your ideas on Organizing the basement or garage area. Much easier way of getting it done. We appreciate your videos and the time you put in to bring us valuable information.
Thanks so much Laurel. Great to hear you’re finding these helpful.
Hey Jerry.......this reminds me of my brother in law...he is a fireman.....he tells me....at the firehouse.......they unpack & pack all the equipment constantly to see what/where/condition/improvements/familiarity of their equipment.............efficiency is the key.....and saves time for the adventure.
What a great tip. Thanks
@@iLoveRVlife your welcome
Thanks Jerry...my wife and I watched your video ideas last night and it motivated us to clean and organize our storage bays today. I hung hooks for hoses and cables--great suggestion. Look forward to your videos due to your helpful hints and enthusiasm. Thanks again.
Thanks Kim. Great to heat you found the video helpful. Safe travels. Jerry...
Good vid as always Jerry! There is nothing that gets on my nerves more when I’m camping is trying to get something out of storage and having to pull a tangled mess out for one thing. What I have done is get 4 heavy duty plastic totes. I have 1 labeled for leveling blocks/wheel chocks, 1 for outdoor grilling, bug sprays, fire starters etc.. Then last one is for electric cords, pig tails, small tools, any maintenance items. Rugs slide in between totes and chairs fit on top of totes. This for me has made set up and break down stress free and fast.
That’s a great system Todd. Thanks for sharing.
Great idea on going through storage about once a year. You inspired me to go through mine again. I purchase two large clear tubs with lids for loose items. Be sure and get them lids, because as you said flat is good and I stack a few large light weight items on top. Agree put things you seem to always to use in the front. Also, don't forget the front storage. I put my power cords, hoses, sewer connects there.
Hi Norman, I do the same with the front storage for hoses and the grill. Should have shown, but so little space is available (it’s full of golf cart batteries) I didn’t both showing. Should have taken a minute to show the set up. Great tip. Thanks for sharing.
We use those under bed storage totes for our electric- miscellaneous - sewer hoses and items that go with it. So have wheels and stack nicely.
Great tip Paula. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. The “garage” sits behind the kingpin and the “basement” goes across the rig. 😃 I try to put All the working items on the driver side and all the fun items on the passenger side. Just makes sense to me to keep working tools where I need them most. Nice pack job, Jerry!
Thanks and appreciate the tips.
Happy belated Father's Day Jerry! Great seeing how well you organizated the big cargo compartment on your very nice and beautiful Gateway! Thanks for all your help with sharing these very informative videos Jerry. Have a great time, stay safe out there on your excursion's. And as always blessings to you and your family Jerry and Joan!
Thanks so much Todd. Hope your day was great as well. Always happy to share a fee RV travel tips.
Jerry, this I a a great video. Imagine that we went from an 05 39’ Teton Grand to a 29-5T Arctic Fox. It had a “garage” you could literally camp in. Talk about downsizing! I put 2 toolboxes in the bed of the truck. One big box in the front of the bed and one behind out trailer saver hitch as close to the tailgate as possible. I keep all of the non trailer oriented stuff in the big box in front, my camp chef grill, small air compressor, small 2 step stool etc. in the one in back of the bed I keep all my tools, repair parts, chemicals and whatever is left. Only thing I must watch is to lift the front of the coach about an additional 1.5 inches after clearing the hitch to get the pin over the rear box. That leaves my on coach storage for trailer and camping specific items, Winegard X2 (bought after watching your video...thanks for that) chairs, bins for fresh and waste hoses and accompanying stuff. It worked amazing for us. Appreciate your channel and hope to meet on the road some time (getting closer to retirement). We are in So Cal but love the south (when it’s a bit cooler) Safe travels to you and your wife this summer. Rick and Linnea Colston. If you would like to see any pics I would be happy to post. ( not sure if I can in the comments section )
What a great set up Rick. I’ve seen several 29 series Arctic Fox recently. Well designed and great use of floor space. Also understand they are well built. Glad to hear the X2 is working well. We’ve had ours several years and still works great. Warns days are on the way in Georgia. Heading to the North Carolina mountains Monday to escape the heat. If all goes as planned, we’ll head west early fall. AZ may be as far as we go this trip. The RV world is small is a small place. Hope our paths cross. Jerry...
We just upgraded to a momentum 381 toy hauler from an older KZ toy hauler. The new one has way less storage in the pass through. I had to go through my stuff and downsize. I didn't realize i had 200' of water hose lol. Even after downsizing I had to get creative. I'm using the generator compartment for some things and our under bed storage too. Long story short...whatever storage I have in any rig will be slammed full.
Too funny Blake on the water hose! I didn’t mention, but I carried one around this year that leaked like crazy. I didn’t show the geny bay. I have a big custom battery box with 4 T105s and my hoses. Nothing fancy but functional. We may be getting close to having the basics and not hauling around a bunch of stuff never used. Jerry...
HI Guys.. hey I have a collapsible wagon too and "I Love It." But it rides in the back of my GMC Yukon (my tow vehicle). Gee, now I gotta clean up my storage spaces. Great job Jerry. Happy Trails ya'll
Thanks Lady Jay. Those little wagons become more helpful every time we travel - laundry, firewood, haul propane tanks, even grand baby entertainment.
@@iLoveRVlife I really like it cause; as I get older it carries my case of water and groceries too! And yes the Grand Babies look forward to it..LOL. Wish someone would stroll me around. lol
Haha! No kidding. Just set up in South Carolina. Looking for the button to push and everything automatically gets done.
Hey Jerry,
This is the first time we I comment in your videos but please know that we watch every single episode and your channel is one of our favorites. Hope you and Joan and doing well!
Thanks so much. Great to know you’re enjoying the channel.
Thx for sharing these tips. Wes and I are going to de pok soon to get ready to head to Fl.
Glad we could share Babs. Have a great time in Florida.
If the storage is in the front if the RV we call it the attic, the basement is in the middle and garage is in the rear. If there is a large storage area on back then it is the shed. This helps find things when a spouse says, “the last time I saw it” Or “look in the ???” and eliminates many of our disagreements. 😊
Great tip.
Clever thought! And like most of the stuff in a stick and brick organization process.
Thanks Jim
Such a simple video but my goodness, really good points and tips. Learned a lot. Thanks as always.
Thanks a bunch. Glad you found the tips helpful.
Totally enjoyed the video.....It is so helpful, you seem to always do vids. that offer so much good advice....
Thanks a bunch Joanie. Great,to hear you found the video helpful.
You have a great outlook on things, thanks for sharing.
Having fun is always great to share. Thanks.
I just bought a brand new 222 toy hauler and I will be taking off for a month and a half to do months this March and I don't have the storage like you got do you really need the air compressor I have a small one for my truck tires hopefully it'll do my tires on my RV I don't think I'll be able to carry all the stuff you got I want to have my life simple you know what they say the more you have the more you got to do enjoy your videos
Thanks Mark. Storage is a challenge. We find the more we travel, the less we haul. Once a year, we go through the cabinets and storage. If it’s not used, we get rid of it. Air compressor is a great addition. Mine is a little large, but needed since our RV tires require 110lbs of air.
You mentioned cleaning off the faucets at the camp grounds. Could you do a video on sanitation of campground hook ups and what you do to clean them up. Thanks Jerry
I could, but not much to share. We have one of those large generic spray bottles you can buy from the home products isle at the home improvement stores or Wally Worlds. Add a half a cup of bleach and fill with water. I spray the water facet in and out before I connect the hose. Just a simple “just in case” measure.
I Love RV Life that’s great will add it to our inventory forsure. Thanks for tips again!
Unfortunately, in a Casita, the "garage" will hold the equivalent of a 12 pack. What I found with my trip to Florida was that it was easy to say no to unnecessary purchases and I made regular visits to the give away pile. Like you said, you see very quickly what you are going to use and what you aren't.
Haha! So true.
Great video Jerry! Thanks so much keep up the great work.
You bet! Glad to share.
We enjoy your videos and we have learned a ton from you.
Thanks so much
My tip is to store stuff you'll take out first under the slides. Leveling blocks, sewer hose, wood, door mat, sat. dish. That way you don't need to crawl on your knees after deploying the slide.
Thanks Allen. Great tip for those who have Class A and C’s.
Another excellent video, Jerry! Thanks for the info!
Thanks a bunch Jim.
Hi Jerry! What a great video! Sorry for the delay in commenting, we were out, you guessed it, in our RV!!!! Your advice and example are so appreciated. We are in refitting and resupplying for another run south to Oregon. I was looking for the video on your marker lights but I could not find it. Would you please point me in the right direction, I would really like to fabricate a set for our next campsite. Thanks a million! Safe travels!
Thanks so much Andy. The camping light video was released this morning ruclips.net/video/NGf0-KHlnSY/видео.html
We feel the same on the number or chairs but other family members are not so self reliant, and seem to want things done, have, or provided for them. So we carry 3. LOL one extra. Then everyone else is just out of luck.
Understand Paul. With all the love in my heart.....that’s why we find rocks in a campground 😏
thanks for sharing happy fathers day!!
You bet and thanks a bunch Phillip.
Have you considered building two sliding drawers (one accessible from each side) that meet in the middle. Slide out to locate the stuff you need as needed.
I have Ernie. Maybe a project later this year.
AWESOME video❣️ Thank you!!!
Always glad to share. Appreciate you watching.
Nice, I put my air compressor on my truck, with 5 gallons of air. It goes to 200 psi. I got the high volume pumps. I got 2 of them
That will get the job done!
Great tips!! Can you point me to your video where u make the little lights to sit out around the campsite? I cant seem to find it. Thanks
Thanks a bunch. Here you go ruclips.net/video/NGf0-KHlnSY/видео.html If you ever want to find something on our channel, do a Google search of ilovervlife “and topic of interest”. If I’ve created a video, it usually shows. Such as ilovervlife pigeon forge for all things from our trips there. But always glad help if you ever have questions.
Thanks for the good tips, I've got some things that I don't need, that won't make the next trip!
Glad to hear the tips helped.
Great tips Jerry and thank you for sharing. One question, where do you put sewer hoses
Hi G and thanks. We rinse it and have a vented metal storage area in the front of the RV. We carry two, a regular end with bayonet and a 12 foot extension just in case.
I like the small air compressor. I'll have to get one.
Have a Jesus filled day
Greg in Michigan
Thanks so much Greg.
Can’t forget that satellite dish - GO DAWGS!
Never Bill. Gotta watch that SEC football in the fall! BTW, how’s the recovery going?
I Love RV Life going well, just got to get a little more strength in legs. Thanks for asking!
Get well soon!
👍
Very timely video. Had to take my 5th wheel in for service two days ago and I emptied the basement to make it easier for them. Now all that stuff is sitting in my garage in a big pile. Going to go through it today. Loved that aluminum folding table. Could you tell me where you purchased it?
Thanks much. Great table. Here’s a link amzn.to/2Xj2pLT. If you ever have questions about products we use, visit our web site at www.ilovervlife.com/rv-accessories for a complete list. Some even have videos for use or evaluation. Appreciate you watching the channel.
Thank you for storage tips and tricks. Is there a special vacuum that you use in that area and if so tell us about it and was that a wagon that folds?
Hi Loda. This is a small Shop Vac and does a super job. Small and easy to pack. Under $50. Hears a link amzn.to/2MRyJla. It is a folding wagon. You can find them in many of the big box stores. This is the one we ordered amzn.to/2IiYyWO
WOW, you carry the same compressor that we do. It's the only way to go.
Absolutely. Hard to beat for the value.
Get a Viair air compressor, much smaller and is designed for RV use.
I will. Thanks
Many thanks! Most helpful 😃
You bet! Glad to share.
don't all the needy campers realize that everyone and how they do things is different. campers, equipment, time of year all changes. I do like your thoughts on getting rid of unused items.
Thanks Jim.
Really great video as always!! We were curious about your leaf blower...I want to get an cheap plug in to blow the sand out of the camper, as well as blow the sand off the mats when we pack up to leave (my husband spends like an hour sweeping it off before we fold it up to leave haha) We don't want a rechargeable one, as that would be a pain, but want something strong enough. And Small enough to fit in our storage! Is yours a plug in and do you recommend it?
Thanks a bunch Lori. The little Homelite blower isn’t made any longer, but Black n Decker makes a unit that’s almost identical amzn.to/2IR6Cxk. It too is small and electric. The little electric blow is perfect for leaves, sand, etc.
A thought, could the small shop vac have a place to put the hose on exhaust? I have one that does. It may eliminate a tool and free up some space. The wand could be used to direct air flow?
Hi Jim. It does have an exhaust on the other side and makes a fair leaf blower.
The pancake compressor is a non starter. Mount a Viair compressor to the underside of the truck with an easily accessible port. Many videos on how to do it. It's one tenth the size and weight. I won't even start with the dish, it's ancient.
We stay in campgrounds with no Internet and no off-air antenna. For ancient tech, Dish is a great option so I can watch college football this weekend..
I Love RV Life I understand college football is a must for many of my friends. From what I understand there are new better options for satellite tv. You have a great deal of experience to share, please keep sharing with those of us who are just learning.
hello jerry love your videos been watching them for a while, now, quick question that mic that's clipped to your t shirt what kind is it? i didn't see it on your web site, ive been trying find a good one for a bit now,
Hi Jay. There’s times I’m move around a bit or I’m placing the tripod at a distance and a camera attached mic gives hollow or degraded audio. I shoot professionally and have a couple high quality wireless packs. This is a Sony set up amzn.to/2MWIU80, pricey, but excellent audio quality. Give me an the camera model you’re using and I may have a few suggestions of a wired lapel you can use.
Gerry where did you get the aluminum table? We have the plastic one as well and it is not worth the ..... Thanks, John
We too had a plastic folding table. Wasn’t our favorite either. We use this table at the beach, campground during the evenings, even the occasional saw horse. It continues to serve us well. Here’s the link on Amazon. amzn.to/2KDIMEb
Thanks for getting back to me. I will check it out.
Thanks 👍👍👍👍
You bet Gary.
A job that needs to be done, but....
Safe travels and good health.
Thanks Curt.
Do you use the level for setting up your camp?
Hi Linda. We do use the level. We don’t have an auto leveling system. We place on the side before unhook and the floor for front to back. Have you seen this video? ruclips.net/video/Fwq10pEOKUU/видео.html
just curious have you had the need for a water jug since you got rid of it?? LOL
I thought I might, but I haven’t.
just checking 😆🤣😂
Thanks. We’re still hanging around.
Would there be enough room on the garage door to install grip clamps to put your electric adapter on? Since shore power is probably the third thing to do? And stacked in one place?
There is. A clip holder used for brooms and mops is an option. Have been debating for some time whether or not to add.
I Love RV Life I don’t Rv as of ye. Just found your channel. Been following the RV Odd Couple. But I think if you used short screws with epoxy. It may work. That is if there is any space near the hinge to affix you most used plugs. Might just work?
Welcome to the channel Jim. I think the short screws would work. I want to make sure we don’t add strain or wear from highway bumps that could damage the adapters over time. They’re small, but a little hefty for the size.
I Love RV Life I saw you hold one up in your garage storage video. I have the problem rolling on the back burner in my mind. Maybe three clamps per? Each end and one near center mass? Or
Maybe industrial strength Velcro? A spot on ends and patch in middle? Just enough to hold on door, but not enough to require a breaker bar?
X2 tip- After disconnecting power rotate the head clockwise until the arrows aligned for STORAGE. The head will then be Horizontal. Other than that..nice job!
Thanks
I should be watching John Wayne movies or Fox News instead I'm watching your RV RUclips videos I like to hear what your wife has to say about all the stuff you got in there
Glad I give you an option. You can bet, Joan gives me a list.
So, you're one of those guys that takes a leaf blower out in the woods when the rest of us are trying to enjoy some peace & quiet . Where is your chainsaw & jackhammer ?
Never. Middle of the week, in the Fall, went everyone else has gone home.
What is the point of this video, the storage was sloppy and cluttered.
It’s difficult to make your RV look like an IKEA display, but we try. Thanks for the comment.
