We have a 1994 Winnebago with basement air. After watching this video twice and with help of someone who knows more than me, I got two cans of the EVAP FOAM NO RINSE and sprayed them twice. The first time the foam turned from white to gray and black. I don't know if they had ever been cleaned. I let it sit for a half hour and then sprayed it down with a garden hose. Oh the dirt that was on the asphalt!! YUK!!! I sprayed the second can and it never left white. So one can really did do an excellent job! Great video on doing maintenance on your AC units. Doesn't matter if it on an rv or stick and bricks it needs to be serviced. Would suggest using a one gallon pump sprayer for rinsing it makes it easier if you have carpal tunnel problems with squeezing a spray bottle. I also use foil tape to seal off evaporator it also helps keep hot air from getting in which will reduce your cooling efficiency. Last carry extra run capacitors just in case they fail or you notice them swollen on inspection. Again great video enjoyed it.
Good comment James. Some others made the same comment about using a one gallon pump sprayer that you can get from Home Depot. That's a great idea and I will be using one next time. And your right about carrying extra capacitors. I carry all three for both of my AC units. I consider these critical spare parts. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 🔧 👍
I bought a 2006 Jayco 28' Class C. Want to guess whether this is needed😆. A lot of fins are bent so I got a fin comb to handle that. We are spending the summer in the Southwest, so thanks for keeping us cool👍
Haha!! I love the way you express yourselfon 14:40 I'd do the same. Btw you can tape a thick plastic bag on the bottom of the duct where the filter goes on and just attach a duct or thick tubing, hose to a hole on the bottom of the plastic bag and just put a bucket, container or something on the other extreme of the hose, tubing or duct, so you don't need to worry about the dirty water while cleaning it.
Here's a good tip for ya is to use a pressurized pump up sprayer- the kind you use in gardening then you save the hand work out, and tip number 2 is paint the evaporator cover that you removed, the color white on the outside and also the sides and the back too that will significantly reduce the absorption of heat and the evaporator coil will be colder and your compressor wont have to work as hard...
Yeah others have also suggested a "pressurized garden pump up sprayer" too. That's great idea. I do carry one with me and will be using that next time. 👍
Wouldn't it be a good idea to check the condensation drain holes in the AC pan while you have that cover off? If those holes plug water can come thought the unit into the coach. Thanks for demonstrating how to clean the AC unit.
I'm always leary with any product that says no rince. I'm glad you pulled out the spray bottle for rinsing. The dirt and grime does not magically dissappear. Infact using no rinse product's repeatedly without rinsing may eventually do more harm than good...
Hi David, thx for your comment.... Concerning rinsing, I pinned this in the very first comment in the video. Stop at Sam's Club or Costco and get you a pack of their spray bottles. I think the best are at Costco. You wouldn't believe how much more spray you get out and how easy the are to adjust with the screw nozzle.
Great video. You explain and show what you are doing. I always did the front coil didn't think that the evaporator would be that bad. After watching your video I decided to go for it and take it apart. So glad I did! Thanks! Keep the PMI's coming.
Thank you for the information! The unit in our new to us rv was icing up, and a thorough cleaning fixed the problem! I did buy some cleaner at walmart though. It was about $7 per can. Since the brand you recommended was on amazon for about $40, I figured it was worth a chance. I appreciate you taking the time to teach people like me!
There are a lot of cleaners out there but not all are safe to use on aluminum. The product I recommend in my Amazon store is safe for evap coils and won't damage them. Thanks Amanda for watching. 🔧 👍
Yes, unplug the coach before you start cleaning the AC's. I did mention that in a side bar in the beginning of the video @ 4:43 in the time line. thx Deb 👍
Thanks Andy 👍 Not necessary but you could vacuum it first. Just be careful you don't bend the fins on the evap coil. And yes, have all the power OFF as I indicated in the video @ 4:35.
I have a 36 ft class a with 2 ac’s like you and found last week in 90 deg the best I could get was 82 in coach. Do you experience these same results? It’s a 2002. Probably original ac’s. Thanks for great videos
No we do better than that. But, RV AC units are really only capable to cool about 18º - 20º cooler and that's if they are working right and are ducted. There's a lot of other things you can do though to help your Class A stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. You should watch this two videos. These two things will make a huge difference. Insulate - ruclips.net/video/yqZjE4aEoek/видео.html Roof - ruclips.net/video/H00oNtbvtrk/видео.html
First vid of yours for me. We live in a 18 mo old Ceder Creek Cottage Model, therefore our ac doesn't show from the ceiling. It is ducted, with multiple return air and about 10 air outlets, (2 units) so access is only thru the top side. Don't know the air con brand. Any maintenance thoughts? I find nothing in writing on them and a dealer is several hours away, so I can of course call their service dept for info. Thanks in advance, Al.
thx Allan, Well you have to have air filters somewhere inside at the return air. Those should be cleaned often. As far as maintenance from the top, the steps in this video would apply to you also. The information on your AC's will be up top and visible once you remove the cowling. Once you have that info, you can find a lot more info online. FYI....here's all my videos that you may find useful too: ruclips.net/user/RVstreetplaylists
Quick question. I have the same a/c setup on my 28ft Summerland. How do I clean the inside of the white styrofoam where the squirrel cage is? Lots of dirt and buildup I can see from the inside. Thank you.
Hi Ron, As you saw in my video I don't have any styrofoam anywhere up there. But yours may be different. But getting into the other coils across from me evap coils, I do have squirrel cage at the end of the motor shaft, and ya that area is small and tough to get to. So for that area what I do is, from the other side of the squirrel cage I now use one of those small garden pump up sprayers like you get at Home Depot. Fill it up with water and spray that entire area and clean those coils. If those are real dirty too I use the foaming agent on that area too then rinse. Make sure you use the right foam. Some foams are not compatible with aluminum. The foam I use in my Amazon Store is. Next, I do the same thing from the squirrel cage side thru that small hole area and clean it the same way as good as I can. If you have styrofoam-which again I don't-that is obstructing you from cleaning, clean everything-like I did in the video-let it dry and then put the foam pieces back and tape them up. Nothing wrong with doing that if that's what it takes to service your AC units. JIC...FYI...Don't forget to unplug from shore power when you do this maintenance item. 👍
Martin You Rock !!! Awesome video! complete with details and encouragement 👍 You are inspiring. Thank you very much. Thumbs up to you and I am now a subscriber to your channel.
thx JC, Traveling right now, sorry it took so long to get back to you. Did it make this humming sound before you cleaned it? I'm assuming so. But yes it very well could be a capacitor. If you have a AC unit like mine, it will have 3 capacitors. Sounds like it may be the start capacitor. Be sure to get knowed up on changing a capacitor. It's easy to do BUT...they pack a lot of power. So handle them correctly.
@@RVstreet Thanks Martin for getting back, No it didn't make a sound before I cleaned it this was a few months later. I thought this was the problem so I took the cover off first and checked the connections first and that was the problem to many bumpy roads. That fixed my ac. I just wanted to check with you to see i was on the right track. I remember this from my sticks and bricks ac, Thanks again be safe Happy Travels.
OK I just looked it up....OK. But another commenter here suggested using a one gallon garden sprayer. And ya know what, we carry one on board and I didn't even think of it. So next time I'm using the garden sprayer. thx for contributing Mr. T
Great video! You have a new subscriber. Have you ever considered vacuuming out the evaporator instead of using the foam and water? On your unit, it looks like you might even be able to do from inside the RV.
For me, I don't like running anything over or touching the coils. To easy to bend them, then you have to deal with straightening them with a coil comb or something else. And for us and most RV's doing for the inside is just way to confined and cumbersome.
Hopefully I'll remember that next time. Memory is not as good as it was 20 years ago and so much to cover in this vid's it's easy to forget stuff like that. Good tip. 👍

Thank you for the video. I have a rear unit doing air no cooling. I will do this .I am sure it needs it.
Fantastic Video my man. Thank you for your time and break down on this issue.
Thanks
Welcome. 😝
Im gonna do it!
New subscriber! Thanks for your great informative videos!
Welcome!

Great vid, thank you for your service sir
🇺🇸 🙏
Very good tip. Thanks Don
First vid of yours for me. We live in a 18 mo old Ceder Creek Cottage Model,
therefore our ac doesn't show from the ceiling. It is ducted, with multiple return air and about 10 air outlets, (2 units) so access is only thru the top side. Don't
know the air con brand. Any maintenance thoughts? I find nothing in writing on them and a dealer is several hours away, so I can of course call their service dept for info. Thanks in advance, Al.
thx Allan,
Well you have to have air filters somewhere inside at the return air.
Subscribed brother. Great video. New RV owner myself and this will be very very helpful!
Thanks for the sub and coming aboard JC. 👍
Quick question. I have the same a/c setup on my 28ft Summerland. How do I clean the inside of the white styrofoam where the squirrel cage is? Lots of dirt and buildup I can see from the inside. Thank you.
Hi Ron,
As you saw in my video I don't have any styrofoam anywhere up there.
I always thought it was more important to clean the condenser
Great learning video. Thx
Rusting Compressor ? Been using WD40 spray to possibly reduce corrosion ? Your decal painting great, maybe doing some of that .
Martin You Rock !!!
Awesome video! complete with details and encouragement 👍
You are inspiring. Thank you very much. Thumbs up to you and I am now a subscriber to your channel.
Glad you enjoyed it and it was helpful.
thx Robert.
Hey Martin, your diy videos are awesome. I did your advice my ac it's not coming on it hums, Could that be the capacitor going bad please let me know
thx JC,
Traveling right now, sorry it took so long to get back to you.
Don't have a RV yet, but until I do I can use this technique on the two wall AC units in my condo. Thanks for showing how it's done.
Spin it around...flipping it around is self defeating...better with no filter.
OH no, bad idea.
New subscriber. Your video is very well done. Thanks
Thank you so much Tim. Glad to have you aboard. 💕
Thank you 😎
Very informative! I have a lot of maintenance to catch up on! :)
Awesome job thanks
Great job teaching
Thank you!
Wonderful info!! We'll be doing this!!!
Go to home depo and treat yourself to a new spray bottle look for a yellow/blue “ZEP” bottle you’ll love it.
OK I just looked it up....OK.
But another commenter here suggested using a one gallon garden sprayer. And ya know what, we carry one on board and I didn't even think of it. So next time I'm using the garden sprayer.
thx for contributing Mr. T
What happens if I turn off the ac breaker in my RV?
Great video Martin thank you!,,
OMG! I did not know that. Thanks
There ya go Laury. Glad we could help ya.
Good job
That label is called a nomenclature
Hopefully I'll remember that next time. Memory is not as good as it was 20 years ago and so much to cover in this vid's it's easy to forget stuff like that. Good tip. 👍
One of you commented below that using a small pump up insect sprayer you can buy at Home Depot works a lot better than the small hand help bootle I used to do the rinse. I took that advice and it worked great. I even mentioned it in my latest video: ruclips.net/video/mm-dPGy0fps/видео.html
