I bought an old camper they sold cheap cause the AC didn't work and bought another one. The first thing I checked was the evaporator coil and low and behold you couldn't even tell there was any coils. It was just a solid wall of dirt. Cleaned it and the AC works perfectly.
Great Video. I pay a RV dealer in Sanford, Florida for an annual PM A/C service and when I got up on the roof a week or two later it appeared they didn't do any cleaning to the coil. It looked like they didn't even remove the outside cover. I guess they only cleaned the indoor filter if that. I paid $158.00 for this service for basically doing nothing. For now on I will do it myself.
We have a 1994 Winnebago with basement air. After watching this video twice and with help of someone who knows more than me, I got two cans of the EVAP FOAM NO RINSE and sprayed them twice. The first time the foam turned from white to gray and black. I don't know if they had ever been cleaned. I let it sit for a half hour and then sprayed it down with a garden hose. Oh the dirt that was on the asphalt!! YUK!!! I sprayed the second can and it never left white. So one can really did do an excellent job! I have this noted in my calendar to do this every year on September 1st. Thanks Martin! Our AC has now been "Martenized"!! Really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot.
Wipe down both evaporator and condenser fans as well, just a little dirt & grim on the blades can reduce fan efficiency (air flow) a lot more than you might think. Esp if you cook greasy food on the stove. Also, look at the capacitors for bulging and/or black marks at the wire connections. Great video!
FYI,The cleaner is designed to be sucked thru the condensing coil,The AC should be turned on so it sucks the foam into the coil,As the foam expands it pushes the "nasty" out. I use a wire brush and wipe from the bottom..up,And wipe excess off with a rag. When the coil sweats,The moisture flushes the excess foam out thru the drain. Everything he did is absolutely correct other than running the unit while cleaning the coil. I'm an authorized tech for Dometic and Coleman,Which is what he has, I own a mobile rv repair company in Tallahassee, Fla. That coil cleaner is a great product. Lowes/home depot carry it, Not expensive at all and easy and safe to use.
something I haven't thought of for 35 years. The barber shop and the after shave. Funny. Thanks Brother. You deserve all the best Life can give you ...
I remember those days oh so long ago. I have barber now that even though he’s only about 30 he has shop set up old school kind of old west with a free shot of whiskey or a cold beer with every cut. Also he gives a wicked close shave with a straight razor. Oh man heaven lol
Whenever we open equipment and see the Mfg tag with Model/ser#s, we take a photo and save it in a file on the PC. You'll always have the info when you need parts or manuals. AC, Water Heater, Chassis tag, etc. Thanks for the video!
Very good point. We have done the same thing. We also have downloaded all our manuals, wiring diagrams and stuff like that. That way it's readily available when we need it.
I like how well you take care of your home. Good video on how to take care of ac unit before it becomes a problem. Most people wait til its not working right.
Over time I have saved a lot of money servicing my RV myself. At 71 I hate getting on ladders so I access my roof through the overhead escape hatch over the bed in my truck camper. LOL, like you, the knees need some extra padding when I'm up there so I use strap-on knee pads. Thank you for this tutorial. Now I can service my air conditioner too! 🌲❤🐶😽😽💔🌲
Love this video! My A/C started leaking today and as a first time RV owner, I began to panic inside because living in west Texas, it's impossible to live without one. You made this video very simple and easy to follow along to. Thank you!
Thank you, new rv owner, to a used rv and and I’m pretty sure the previous owner had never done this before. The coils looked like they had a wool sweater. It runs so much better and cooler now. Again thank you for your video
I always love to do my own RV Maintenance and it is even better when there is a good teacher demonstrate the process. I wish more folks that come to our campground would do regular maintenance on their RVs. Many aren't able to do it themselves and it is with great effort to avoid stepping in myself, but I always offer to point them in the right direction to encourage folks maintain their investment!
Please keep playing these videos!! I miss y'all so much! Martin's videos are the best! He was a Great instructor/teacher! Continued prayers for you Joni. Sending Much Love and Hugs
I'm a senior widow and full time RVer and just happened to come across this video. I have been concerned about my A/C's and how to clean them. You made this seem so simple, I'm planning to see if I can do this myself! Thanks so much for the instructions! Also decided to subscribe!
Service the AC today both took about an hour and a half the 300.00 was well worth the self maintenance. note nobody sells the liquid wrench oil had to go to an ace hardware to find it. all went well thanks Martin. thanks you for your Service on this Memorial Day weekend.
Don't you mean saving the $300 was worth it? You bet it was 😎 You could of ordered the oil from my Amazon Store. Everything I use and talk about is always in my store. www.amazon.com/shop/rvstreet
*New sub here, love the videos especially the one you did about painting over a faded decal! I do this every spring to our Ac’s, funny story.. a few yrs back we went to land between the lakes in Kentucky for a week long getaway with some friends and one friend rented a class c motorhome that was roughly 5-6yrs old at the time. Well it turned out that the week we went turned out to be the most god awful hottest week we have ever camped I think period! On day 2 by buddy with the rented class c comes running over in a panic at 1am saying it was 90 in the coach so I go over and sure enough the ac is blowing Luke warm air, I go top side and pull the cowl off and you wouldn’t believe the mess I found!! The unit was frozen over, the inside of the white cowl was brown, you couldn’t see a single piece of sheet medal and the dirt was so thick I had to scrape it to see the screws! I had them shut it off and they had already moved to our coach so we let it thaw out and in the morning we went up with my compressor and first blew what I could out which looked like a dust storm hit and then I rinsed it with water and put it back together and it work the rest of the trip.. now here’s the best part! At 1am the first thing I did was pull the inside cover off where the filter is and no filter but instead stuffed up inside was a pair of women’s underwear and a bra! I looked at my buddy and said tell christy (his wife) these go in the dresser not the Ac! Lol there is no way that Ac had ever been serviced like this particular rental company claimed to service every single system after every use, my buddy ended up getting a good portion of his money refunded but needless to say we ended up with a story of a lifetime!
a story of a lifetime! indeed. OMG GCJK, the best story ever. I especially loved the part "pulled the inside cover off where the filter is and no filter but instead stuffed up inside was a pair of women’s underwear and a bra! I looked at my buddy and said tell christy (his wife) these go in the dresser not the Ac! That is to funny and luv you wit. Sounds like something I'd say. Proper PM is sooooooo....important to keep these babies running good. thx so much for this story.
Martin here. I luv that name PAMIE. And good for you doing your own maintenance. I'm sure you learned from others too, but I'll take what little credit I deserve. 💕 💕
Ive been cleaning mine from inside through the ceiling for 8 years now. I had no idea you could access it so easy from the top. This is a great way of doing this maintenance. Thank you!
Thank you for bringing us along as you performed this important cleaning. We watched this xlnt how-to video from Death Valley National Park in California - where it is currently 110 degrees. We want to keep our a/c unit working optimally. Thank you again.
I cleaned mine exactly as you recommend. I couldn't believe how dirty!!!! They didn't look too crazy dirty. But after I cleaned them they looked so good!!! And cooler better. Thank you!
Absolutely right I’m going to try to take care of it myself. I’ll make sure my battery is unplugged and follow instructions as you said. Thanks so much for your video. Blessings from a first time camper owner
You’re the BOSS!! I did this today getting up the courage only because of your video. My front AC on the 40’ DP was basically dead. The air is very cold now on a 92 degree day in Va. Thank you for such excellent videos sir.
Excellent idea regarding VIN digits in reflective tape on the A/C housing. I have watched so many videos recently regarding RV's being stolen. Truly hope that tip spreads quickly.
Martin, first of all...THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY!! Second, I just wanted to say I’m a new subscriber, and truly appreciate your videos. They’re VERY informative! Great job! Thanks Again! Frank
Glad to hear you offer people encouragement to do this on their own. Lots of simple jobs that can save a lot of money. I do this on my heat pump units at home too. Best of luck to you.
I just love your DIY videos! The air conditioner is the next task on our list of many, "to do list". Thanks for all of your great videos. You speak a common language to us who do not know technical/mechanical jargon. Thank you Martin!
I'm was an electrician before I retired, after which I helped my next door neighbor frome time to time (he was an HVAC man), he taught me to do this cleaning pretty much the way you showed. I would also check the caps; if they were 10% to12% low I would change them, binging an electrician I knew the unit would not run 100% if the caps were low (power factor would drop and it would take more electrical power to keep up. You would need a multi-meter to check the microfarads of each cap. It does help to have a little knowledge of electrical works. Just a little something extra.
Thank you!!! I love your channel. Period. I am a part-time RVer and when I record myself PM on my Class B Rv (as soon as we have a warm day) I am shoutouting out your most valuable channel!!! Thank you for teaching so well and stay safe out there! BTW, last month I changed my rv generator oil MYSELF!!! I recorded it and was thrilled to self serve!! 🙌🏽🙏🏽 owning the RV and DIY has me more empowered and excited I saving hundreds of $$$$
Now Stephanie, your my kinda gal. Digging in and getting it done. *YOURSELF* Thanks for taking the time to chime in. This will help other gals out there that they can do this stuff too 💗 Oh.....next time you do something, and shout out...say I just Martinized my RV.
@@RVstreet no lie!! Thank you!! I’m also a veteran but as you know, the drive to DIY and to know our own rigs probably comes something deeper. I have seen other ladies DIY their rigs that have inspired me. Therefore, I hope my channel inspires all others, as you are taking the time to educate us all on your awesome channel. 🙏🏽😎🎊
Hey you two, love your videos, it’s so great to have someone showing the nuts and bolts of PM on a coach that is your home. The cheapest repairs are the ones you don’t have to make and I really appreciate you guide to maintaining the rig.
"YOU HAVE ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS OUT THERE"! I am also living in a 5thw full time , for the past 2 yrs. And so, the RV life is all new for me,,. BUT, what I have realized is,. That these things need TLC, I need to get myself on a routine of a maintenance schedule ,,,and NOT wait til it's mid summer,. While I'm sweatin my ass off , ( then it clicks),,,. "Oh , that's why I don't have that cool breeze , my coils , I shoulda already had that done"! Shoulda,! . Coulda,! Woulda ! Aint gonna get it done So anyways thanks for taking the time to make this video ,,,. It's a great day to clean some coils ,,,! Wish me luck
Thanks Kristine and you're welcome. 😍 You're absolutely right and staying up on maintenance stuff. It's a must with any RV. Have you visited my PLAYLIST page yet? ruclips.net/user/RVstreetplaylists
Great job Martin, we clean our filters at least once a month or sooner if needed. I also wash the grills and use a Clorox wipe to clean the surface under the filter housing. I also inspect the coil while I have the filters out. I’ll be cleaning my coils when we get back from the beach in a few weeks. Keep these great PM videos coming.
Thanks so much. But about those Clorox wipes-yep great idea-but where do you find them these days with all these COVID anti virus supply hoarders? We're still using card board for toilet paper.
Simple, easy instruction, Thanks. Something I wanted to bring up, I had a 2011 Montana Dometic 1350 BTU AC unit which die on me a few years back, and it was preventable, if I had discovered the issue sooner. Two of the copper lines had been separated by a thin foam wedge. These two copper lines were rubbing together and rubbed a hole in one of the lines. I call the RV Tech, and asked if he cut out the bad section and solider in a new piece of copper line, pull a vacuum, dry out the lines and add Refrigerant. NOPE... there's absolutely no valves in the system to service the unit. The cost to add all the fittings and labor would cost the same as a new unit. Which I ended up doing. That was over a $1000 by the time it was done. Save yourself some dollars and inspect the copper lines and fan blades and things. Some of little thing can be repaired simply before they become THROWAWAY UNITS.
Thanks to Joanie for the camera work and Martin, I truly dig your "extra mile" detailed explainations. I just cleaned our A/C unit according to your vid this morning. Your detailed checklist for the automatic stairs were also spot on (our chassis ground wire was the culprit). We recently dropped our extended service agreement and I've been enjoying learning from the RV Street videos (in hopes that I am truly teachable : )
Based on my personal experience, there another check to do if your AC has a scroll fan. The rear AC was running it started to make a hell of a noise. What found was several of the plastic blades broke off due to an imbalanced caused by Mud Dobber tubes.Had to replace the scroll fan. I then checked the I there 2 ACs and found the second AC fan was about to shed the blades for the same reason.
That's good tip. I'm going to guess that you put your RV in storage from time to time, OR....your in cooler temps a lot and don't use your AC very often, otherwise mud dabbers wouldn't have a time to build nests. thx Neil 👍
Really enjoyed your explanation and thorough description on this subject. Also appreciate your candid encouragement to those who may not feel comfortable doing this job. You’ve earned a new subscriber in myself. Thank you sir!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Another commenter made a great suggestion. Go to Home Depot and buy one of those garden pump sprayers and fill it with water. Much easier to rinse than the bottle I used. Funny thing is, I carry one of those on our rig and never thought to use it.
Hi Rick, can you offer some advice, since trying all the reccomdation in this video we still have warm air blowing. The compressor kicks in when the thermostat is set and the copper wires get cold with no sign of refrigerant leakage ! Any tips?
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I'm gonna clean the coils in my window units as well. This is the stuff my AC guy uses and charges me (lots) for. I'm now gonna save some serious money. The cans (2 pack) are about $36- FAR LESS than a new ac unit. God bless you!
Doing your own maintenance can save you a lot of money. Full time RV living in Texas, many, many hours on the AC unit. My Coleman 15,000 BTU ran for 14 years. Had to replace it about a month ago but I really feel I got my money's worth out of it. I do all my own work, just backing Martin on the importance of preventative maintenance and giving my compliments for the detailed video. Thank you.
Yep, regular PM is the key to keeping these RV's in top notch shape. WOW, 14yrs. on that Coleman, I mean yeah...you definitely got your monies worth out that baby.
Rinse itself? The ac unit literally has no water involved in it’s operation so it won’t be doing any rinsing. If anything the unit may blow some of the dirt out of the fins with air flow when it’s running.
I am so glad these videos are still available, info I have been referring to for Years.... It warms my heart to listen to this wonderful man. Please keep these available because there are so many new RV'rs that need to learn from him. Great man...
Beetle1 Excellent strategy. I am handicapped and can 't climb to the roof. But i was able to clean from the inside using the foam and an A/C brush. Worked well for me.
New subscriber here, I'm a retired over the road truck driver,am very familiar with refrigeration as most of my hauling was produce+ meat,I'm buying my first RV very soon,my wife passed away 2 yrs ago, can't stand being in one place for long, really nice show, keep up the good work !!
Excellent video...I pulled mine out of storage and the unit would trip off...I went up and pulled the cover and found a birds nest (Not kidding) built around the fan and ac coils...removed that and cleaned her up so the fan blades were clear to rotate and it worked like a champ. Was a bit freaked out at first thinking this thing is only one year old and already an AC failure...but it was really simple to fix...I guess the bids needed an RV too!
We live in SWFlorida so the A/C unit runs pretty much non-stop. Have never done a service and was thinking something needs to be done. Works great and want it to continue. My husband has had some recent health issues and even before, refused to climb on top. So everything topside is my responsibility. I am confident I can do this myself. Your video was easy to follow and understand. Sat now has a new project for me. Thank you.
Your welcome Nancy. Another commenter made a great suggestion. Go to Home Depot and buy one of those garden pump sprayers and fill it with water. Much easier to rinse than the bottle I used. Funny thing is, I carry one of those on our rig and never thought to use it.
I just did this on my a coil in my mobile home 2 weeks ago. We had a ac guy come check our ac. He told my son-in-law we need a new a coil because we smoke and hadn’t cleaned it in 20 years. He said it was real nasty. After they left I looke in the acoil and they just barely opened the tin so they couldn’t even c in there. After I got it all open up it was not nasty at all but I did spray the same stuff u did. I didn’t know about it until I googled it and saw how easy it was. I did talk to another guy and he said he would clean it for 125 bucks but after I saw how easy it was I did it my self. Now I can do it more often. I saw a guy on utube that his had 3 inches of cat hair all over it from 20 years.
Such good information! Very appreciative of how u explained it as u went. Easy for this senior, solo nomad to comprehend. I might need help on the roof, just for safety, but it’s worth it for the $$$ saved. Thank u!
Its called no rinse because the AC should be cleaned during hot humid weather and ran after sprayed with the cleaner so the fan pulls the cleaner and condensate through the coil to clean it deeper and rinse itself with the condensate.
Great video and very helpful.. The only thing I have seen you might need to do in addition to this. If your AC unit has a lot of bent in fins.... There is a fin comb you can use to get them all straight again. if you have only a few places it is no big deal but as you stated, airflow is the key so if a lot of fins are crushed you might need to do it.
Thanks Martin for another great video. I am physically unable to do most of the maintenance on my trailer, but I want to know what and how to do the maintenance. When I speak with the repair man, I expect him to review his procedure with me. If he refuses … he’s not my repair guy. I have also provided the videos for them before they do the work. The ones that watch the videos usually tell me they got tips from them. These are my go to repair men.
I would totally agree with you on the statement that if they are unwilling to discuss the repairs then I wouldn't let them touch anything. Thank you so much for your support. 👍
I spend thousands of hours a year on the road. I have never seen a cop climb up on the roof of an RV. Good demonstration of cleaning the A/C unit. Happy camping 🏕🚍
1990 Airex Thanks for sharing.❤ I recently put in a portable A/C in the front space (under the front table behind the passenger seat) because the back air unit started blowing just fan air on hot days. It still works but on super hot days it stops blowing the cold air. The top front A/C has always sucked & just blows fan air, no cold air at all. The portable A/C was only $200 for a 10000BTU. It’s vented out the passenger side window. It works alright. I’ll see if it was worth the purchase in late Spring into Summer. After watching your video I’m going to clean up the top A/C’s like you did in this video to see if it helps before I decide to replace both the top A/C’s. I hope it works out. Thanks for sharing. Very nice explanation and easy to understand. Thank you. I wish I stumbled across your channel years ago. Oh well. But thanks again for sharing.
"YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME"! I THINK YOU GOT SOME REALLY GREAT TIPS, THAT I HAD BETTER USE,, CUZ ITS WAY WORTH IT TO TAKE PREVENTATIVE MEASURES,. AND EVEN MORE SO, IF YOUR LIVING FULL TIME,. AS I AM TOO SO THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR INFO,.
This video is excellent! A note to all: make sure the drip pan below the evaporator is clean, and the drain holes are clear, AFTER you've foamed the evaporator. I cleaned my AC a month ago, and now I have water inside the trailer whenever I use my AC unit. I am going on the roof again today, to clear the drain holes.
I had no idea this needed to be done. I ask for yearly service, but I'm certain that unless I explicitly ask for this to be completed it will not. Thank you so much.
We have had our RV for a about a year now and the a/c evap coil cleaning is a maintenance item I never thought about. And by the looks of mine I don’t think the previous owner ever did this as boy they were filthy. So I got up on the roof and cleaned them following your video. We should be good for another year. I appreciate your videos and the information they provide.
I'm glad we were able to help. That's the mission of our channel. To equip fellow RVer's with the knowledge and know how to take care of many of the common needs RV's have. Watch some of our other video's with the link below. You'll probably find out other stuff we have here that you didn't know about: ruclips.net/p/PLkQXtMp9xodTJ0dM4aG8P8IcYEEWBtWBc thx Drew. 👍
Thank you for reminding me it's that time of year to do this. I love the tape idea, I'm totally doing that! And the oiling the fan, I've never thought of that. My coach is 3 years old, it's time to oil that fan for sure. Thanks again, Nic.
Bought a 04 fifth wheel that sat around for 3 years. I had problems with the ac off the bat. Needed a new thermostat and I installed it. Then had a problem with getting cold air. I didn't know what to do. So when I seen this video I did exactly what I seen.. looked at it and it was dirty as hell. When I cleaned it with the spray's. I did it step by step and boom! My ac is throwing out the coldest air, and removed the odor of cigarette smoke from the previous owner.. THANK YOU!! 🤘💯
Instead of spray bottle to rinse foam off of coil, buy cheap condiment squeeze bottle and use that to rinse with water, prevent carpel tunnel to your wrist. You'll also be able to exert more forceful with the water.
Great tips Martin and Joanie! Just ordered 2 cans from you Amazon site. I'm going to use one on my rear heat pump as its not been cleaned since we'bought the unit in 2016. I just installed a new forward heat pump due to a high pressure switch failure- a relatively easy change out of the whole unit we did here at the house.I plan to use the other can on the house heat pump inside . I had not been aware of this product before and it looks like it works great! Thanks for your videos! Hope your travel to Maine is proceeding safely and well!
Well done sir...I am a maniac when it comes to maintaining a/c equipment because I sell it for a living! Its expensive! As the old saying goes " an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!"
I found that foaming carpet cleaner works very well too. It foams more and I feel it cleans better plus has a nice clean laundry smell. For the water I found a small pump sprayer at the pet store for reptiles.
That was very informative and actually one of our ac’s is blowing warm at first then cold so it’s saying it needs some tlc…… you’re full of great information!
I so appreciate instructional contributors like yourself where I learn so much about my own Travel Trailer maintenance. This one was very detailed and comprehensive. . . and thank U for your service.
In my opinion this video is well thought out and applicable to anyone from a complete beginner to an experienced trades person. I would only add that it would be smart to flip the main power breakers off and pull the fuse to the unit to ensure no power is running to the unit when you are applying the foam spray and water. Great video, keep it up!
Thanks David. Yep I guess you missed it, but I did caution everyone that all power had been turned off prior to me going up on the roof. 4:32 in the time line. 👍
Excellent step by step DIY PM project. I'm a fanatic about keeping the filter, but in the year that I've own our RV I haven't cleaned the coil yet. I think I'll get to it this weekend. I'm going to use the Evap Foam product as well. Yes, I'll rinse too. Great video. Thanks for sharing!
New kid on the block, lots of dust up here in Alaska. First time RV camper and learning much. Thank you for this “how to...” you have a new subscriber as well!
Thank you Ken 🔧 👍 Alaska is on *MY* bucket list but don't think it will happen. Joanie says no way. She was born & raised in Maine and hates the cold. 😂 BTW...since you're new at RVing, I'd like to invite you to check out some of my other videos I have on my PLAYLIST page. The things I show there will prevent you from going to the school of hard knocks. ruclips.net/user/RVstreetplaylists
Don't know if this has ever happened to you but there is a gray plastic drain pan under the evaporator coil with two drain holes that can become clogged and if they do, the drain pan overflows water into the coach through the return grid. Whoops, ask me how I know;-) Anyway when you are doing your annual evap cleaning you may want to include cleaning that drain pan.
Sorry Martin watched vid again and the drain pan you refer to is under entire unit, drain pan I refer to is not the same one. Check it out and you will see what I am talking about, grey plastic drain tray directly above return grid under evap coil. Enjoy.
As an HVAC professional the foam is great and absolutely tape the seams for any leakage. For labor you’re looking at $160-200 an hour for a good HVAC service company so if you can save that $300-500 it’s worth it especially since you can see what the condition the units are in. If you’re handy enough I’d get the specs of the capacitors and fan motor for spares for when it does go down.
Your absolutely right Scott about spares. I carry a complete set of 3 capacitors for each of my units. I've really pressed the issue of carrying critical spare parts now for the couple of years. Thank you so much for commenting and emphasizing that fact.
This is a great video, you should make it longer and describe the drain holes in pan. my pan was so close to the roof from gasket failure that the pan holes were pushed against roof top and closed the holes off for roof top drainage, This caused massive leaks inside camper, I made holes larger and put plastic shims next to each one to raise it above the roof. I hope this helps others.
Hello Martin! I'm a newbie to RV's. Retired 2018 right after a heart attack(all is good except for meds). Didn't do whole lot in 2019 birthdays scattered during the year and two new granddaughters 11 days apart. Then Covid. After being stuck in home, we bought a 2014 Thor Windsport 27K with 19K miles so we can get out safely more! Not going full time! My point.........please keep showing what needs to be done or how to fix issues! We took our first 2 day trial, and one of the slide motors went out. If you could possibly do a video showing all of the products and lubricants you use like for cleaning whatever, and lubricating things like slide out, and auto step under entrance door and how often you do these things. Your experience could save me and others lots of wasted money. So, I just subscribed! Thank you for your time! Respectfully, Kevin
Hey Kevin, Well thank god you're back on your feet and are able to enjoy life again. But ya, that's exactly the purpose of-well mostly the purpose of-our channel. Teaching people on what to do to their RV to keep it in tip top shape and save folks lots money. I have thought of doing a vid on Lubes and probably will down the road. And of course the steps too. I'm currently working on a 3 Part series right now which Part 1 will be coming out this Sunday night @ 8:30pm. You don't want to miss this series. This series is right down your ally and are very important things to do. If you’ll go to our main YT Channel page and click PLAYLISTS, then on that page click “RV Motorhome Upgrades, Maintenance and DIY How-To’s” there’s already a wealth of information there. In each instructional video I not only show you how to do something but why you should do it. Owning an RV is nothing like owning a car or a truck so you have to totally rethink how and why you do things. If you do the things to your RV that I cover, you’ll save yourself a lot of grief and frustration down the road and actually enjoy your RV a lot more. Right under each video you’ll see SHOW MORE….click that and scroll down and there is additional info there and also links to purchase what I used in the video. I make everything really easy to make sure you get the right stuff and if you need any of what I explained in each video buying it from our links is a great way to say thank you and support our channel. We retired too so you know what I mean. So going to that area first is a great way to get learned up. You having a 2014 Thor Windsport means it's 6 years old and there are many things you need to be doing to keep it up to snuff and preventing bad things happening in the future. I could go on and on here, but just keep learning, and then do the things that you learn and you'll be way ahead of the game. So good luck and I look forward to seeing you online. 👍👍👍
RVstreet Thanks for the link! I had watched about half and must have gotten pulled away. I watched second half, but will watch the whole thing again. Today's project is ball seal in toilet. 😊 A question just came to mind. How many hours per week or month do you spend on maintaining your RV?
Came across this vid in my recommendations. Good job man. I'll try that product myself next time I clean mine but before I rinse with water, I'll let the foam dry completely and shop vacuum the coils with a brush attachment first.
Thank you so much on this. I honestly didn’t think about cleaning all of the inside and coils. You just saved me possibly a couple hundred dollars! I owe you a big fat thank you.
The RV dad we didn’t know we needed
I bought an old camper they sold cheap cause the AC didn't work and bought another one. The first thing I checked was the evaporator coil and low and behold you couldn't even tell there was any coils. It was just a solid wall of dirt. Cleaned it and the AC works perfectly.
I appreciate your succinct, no BS presentation style. Thanks for explaining the how to clearly enough for folks like me to follow.
I appreciate that!
There ya go. 👍
A lot of rip off artists down here and everywhere.
I know exactly who you are talking about! You should have called them and had them redo it! If they refused I would have posted their NAME
😮
Curious if you have any advise for loud noise when fan blowing in our rv unit?
That is in our air cond. Unit I mean.
Rv street is invaluable information my wife and I travel full time and rv street has saved us numerous time hats off rv street keep on rocking me baby
something I haven't thought of for 35 years. The barber shop and the after shave. Funny. Thanks Brother.
You deserve all the best Life can give you ...
Thanks Alfred. Those were the good ol' days and neat memories.
I remember those days oh so long ago. I have barber now that even though he’s only about 30 he has shop set up old school kind of old west with a free shot of whiskey or a cold beer with every cut. Also he gives a wicked close shave with a straight razor. Oh man heaven lol
I remember that also....but I also remember that my haircut only cost $1.00......
Good idea
That's a good thing those tags always tear appart with time.
Great idea!
I like how well you take care of your home. Good video on how to take care of ac unit before it becomes a problem. Most people wait til its not working right.
Yep. Hopefully our video's along with others will encourage folks to do this type of PM items.
Thank you!
You have the perfect voice for these presentations. Thanks for posting.
Thank you kindly!
Thank you, new rv owner, to a used rv and and I’m pretty sure the previous owner had never done this before. The coils looked like they had a wool sweater. It runs so much better and cooler now. Again thank you for your video
This mans respect for quality sound is admirable. Bravo!
I will continue to play them as long as RUclips allows me to👍. Thank you so much for your kind words.
I'm a senior widow and full time RVer and just happened to come across this video. I have been concerned about my A/C's and how to clean them. You made this seem so simple, I'm planning to see if I can do this myself! Thanks so much for the instructions! Also decided to subscribe!
Thank you TT so much. It is simple but very important to do. Remember to unplug from shore power first when you do this. And yes YOU CAN DO THIS 👏
Service the AC today both took about an hour and a half the 300.00 was well worth the self maintenance. note nobody sells the liquid wrench oil had to go to an ace hardware to find it. all went well thanks Martin. thanks you for your Service on this Memorial Day weekend.
Don't you mean saving the $300 was worth it? You bet it was 😎
You could of ordered the oil from my Amazon Store. Everything I use and talk about is always in my store.

I especially loved the part
"pulled the inside cover off where the filter is and no filter but instead stuffed up inside was a pair of women’s underwear and a bra! I looked at my buddy and said tell christy (his wife) these go in the dresser not the Ac! That is to funny and luv you wit. Sounds like something I'd say.
Proper PM is sooooooo....important to keep these babies running good. thx so much for this story.
Thankyou ,I'm a single lady ( 65 ) I know how. To do my maintenance on my R.V because you taught me how !! Excellent job. Thankyou again
Thank you!
🤦♂️
Thank you for bringing us along as you performed this important cleaning. We watched this xlnt how-to video from Death Valley National Park in California - where it is currently 110 degrees. We want to keep our a/c unit working optimally. Thank you again.
I cleaned mine exactly as you recommend. I couldn't believe how dirty!!!! They didn't look too crazy dirty. But after I cleaned them they looked so good!!! And cooler better. Thank you!
God Bless and thank you for all the help in our rv journey.
thank you so much 💕
Absolutely right I’m going to try to take care of it myself. I’ll make sure my battery is unplugged and follow instructions as you said. Thanks so much for your video. Blessings from a first time camper owner
Make sure you're unplugged from SHORE POWER. 🔧💗
You’re the BOSS!! I did this today getting up the courage only because of your video. My front AC on the 40’ DP was basically dead. The air is very cold now on a 92 degree day in Va.
Thank you for such excellent videos sir.
👍🔧
Excellent idea regarding VIN digits in reflective tape on the A/C housing. I have watched so many videos recently regarding RV's being stolen. Truly hope that tip spreads quickly.
Indeed.
Yes, I agree,,,,,that is a good idea, because you never know, you might see your stolen rig on google maps.....
Martin, first of all...THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY!!
Second, I just wanted to say I’m a new subscriber, and truly appreciate your videos.
They’re VERY informative! Great job! Thanks Again! Frank
🇺🇸 🙏
Glad to hear you offer people encouragement to do this on their own. Lots of simple jobs that can save a lot of money. I do this on my heat pump units at home too. Best of luck to you.
Nice video
The reason to run. Your furnace in cold weather. Water lines inside the coach are ran along the heat ducts to keep them from freezing
I just love your DIY videos! The air conditioner is the next task on our list of many, "to do list". Thanks for all of your great videos. You speak a common language to us who do not know technical/mechanical jargon. Thank you Martin!
SLOWLY but SURELY! You are SO right about TRYING to do these things oneself! ☺
Many multimeters will measure microFarads. On a Fluke 115, it is the diode setting but you have to switch modes. It has a symbol like --|(--
Thank you!!!
This will help other gals out there that they can do this stuff too 💗
Oh.....next time you do something, and shout out...say I just Martinized my RV.
Our pleasure! 👍
😅
Great video and well done. Thanks for your knowledgeable help.
Thank you Brian.

Okay I watched your video you're just a down-to-earth person and I really enjoyed listening to you talk and show and do things good job keep it up
"YOU HAVE ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS OUT THERE"!
I am also living in a 5thw full time , for the past 2 yrs.
And so, the RV life is all new for me,,. BUT, what I have realized is,. That these things need TLC,
I need to get myself on a routine of a maintenance schedule ,,,and NOT wait til it's mid summer,. While I'm sweatin my ass off , ( then it clicks),,,. "Oh , that's why I don't have that cool breeze , my coils , I shoulda already had that done"!
Shoulda,! . Coulda,! Woulda !
Aint gonna get it done
So anyways thanks for taking the time to make this video ,,,.
It's a great day to clean some coils ,,,!
Wish me luck
Thanks Kristine and you're welcome. 😍
You're absolutely right and staying up on maintenance stuff. It's a must with any RV.

Very good PM advice.
That's awesome Mike. So glad that vid helped. 🔧 👍
@@RVstreet Is an r v van motor sealed

Another commenter made a great suggestion. Go to Home Depot and buy one of those garden pump sprayers and fill it with water. Much easier to rinse than the bottle I used. Funny thing is, I carry one of those on our rig and never thought to use it.
Awesom video.
100% Agreed !
Yeah but a bit more challenging to get up on the roof of the RV...😄@@RVstreet
I'm a master HVAC tech and I can say fantastic video to help folks do it themselves.
Thank you Rick for the endorsement.
@@RVstreet by the way I go through that coil cleaner by the case 😉.
Your fridgerator to if possible to get to
Doing your own maintenance can save you a lot of money.
WOW, 14yrs. on that Coleman, I mean yeah...you definitely got your monies worth out that baby.
great tip as an ac guy that gets lots of rv calls your pricing is on the money no rinse means you have to run your ac so it can rinse its self
Rinse itself? The ac unit literally has no water involved in it’s operation so it won’t be doing any rinsing. If anything the unit may blow some of the dirt out of the fins with air flow when it’s running.
@@sweetshot_177it's the condensation that condenses on the condenser fins and cleans them.
I am so glad these videos are still available, info I have been referring to for Years.... It warms my heart to listen to this wonderful man. Please keep these available because there are so many new RV'rs that need to learn from him. Great man...
Thank you so much for saying that. I plan on keeping the channel up as long as RUclips allows.
Beetle1 Excellent strategy. I am handicapped and can 't climb to the roof. But i was able to clean
from the inside using the foam and an A/C brush. Worked well for me.
New subscriber here, I'm a retired over the road truck driver,am very familiar with refrigeration as most of my hauling was produce+ meat,I'm buying my first RV very soon,my wife passed away 2 yrs ago, can't stand being in one place for long, really nice show, keep up the good work !!
thx Carl
Joanie & I love our American truckers. OTR drivers are a special kind of folks for sure.
I just discovered you as well..and I'm glad I I did. I will be living this lifestyle in under 12 months. Long live your channel, Brother!
😝
Here's another roof item video you might really like too.

Great help, I've always cleaned the inside filter, now I'll clean the coils too.
@@RVstreet Great Idea.
Super helpful, thank you Sir. And thank you for your military service! Our country is proud of what you did for us.
Thank u!
Good video! You don't muck it up with useless information, easy to listen to.
Its called no rinse because the AC should be cleaned during hot humid weather and ran after sprayed with the cleaner so the fan pulls the cleaner and condensate through the coil to clean it deeper and rinse itself with the condensate.
I totally agree.. my "mind" says, needs through rinsing still?
Makes perfect sense. Thank you for the tip.
Thank you!! I am a DIY Gal who just bought a 2021 Keystone Cougar 29BHS travel trailer. I hate heights but will try this next year.
Good point. thx
Right on man 👍 good tips and you and I both believe overkill is under rated.
I spend thousands of hours a year on the road. I have never seen a cop climb up on the roof of an RV. Good demonstration of cleaning the A/C unit. Happy camping 🏕🚍
OK that's funny right there, Mr. Tongue and cheek. I like that. 👍
Awesome video, i love people sharing skills and wisdom to teach other people and help them be self reliant. Thank you

Thanks for sharing.❤
I recently put in a portable A/C in the front space (under the front table behind the passenger seat) because the back air unit started blowing just fan air on hot days.
After watching your video I’m going to clean up the top A/C’s like you did in this video to see if it helps before I decide to replace both the top
A/C’s.
I hope it works out.
Thanks for sharing.
Very nice explanation and easy to understand.
Thank you.
I wish I stumbled across your channel years ago.
Oh well.
But thanks again for sharing.
Thank you for watching our video and sharing your experience with the RV community. Sharing info on how you solved your problem helps others.
"YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME"!
I THINK YOU GOT SOME REALLY GREAT TIPS, THAT I HAD BETTER USE,,
CUZ ITS WAY WORTH IT TO TAKE PREVENTATIVE MEASURES,. AND EVEN MORE SO, IF YOUR LIVING FULL TIME,. AS I AM TOO
SO THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR INFO,.
THANK YOU!! 🤘💯
My AC unit needs this type of service it's been 3 years. Guess I better get to it, thank you! Very informative
I would add a step. Spray silicone lubricant into the fan motor shaft and spin it up. Motor shafts and bearings need love too!
Thank you 👍♥️ for serving our country !
God bless you and your travels sir.

Thank you Shawn. 👍
I am about to clean the roof on my 6 year old RV. Glad I saw this video. AC before roof cleaning. Look forward to another video.
If ur roof is epdm rubber, do not clean it too often. U will shorten the life span of ur roof.
I found that foaming carpet cleaner works very well too. It foams more and I feel it cleans better plus has a nice clean laundry smell. For the water I found a small pump sprayer at the pet store for reptiles.
Good to know!
🇺🇸🙏
Thanks for the down to earth explanation Martin. Will do this service it's long over do.
@@RVstreet Right on, I must have missed it. Cheers.

Yep I covered that Liz in the vid but definitely worth repeating. Thank you so much.
This is the most informative channel I've found. Thank you
Thank you Joy. You brought JOY to our hearts.
Hey Kevin,
Well thank god you're back on your feet and are able to enjoy life again.
I came back re-read your post. Have you watched this video yet?

RVstreet Thanks for the link! I had watched about half and must have gotten pulled away. I watched second half, but will watch the whole thing again. Today's project is ball seal in toilet. 😊
A question just came to mind. How many hours per week or month do you spend on maintaining your RV?
I actually feel I can do this myself with these great instructions. Keep it up!
Thanks, man! I’m just about to re seal my roof, so I’ll make sure to clean my ac unit before tackling everything else! I really appreciate the info
This is a very informative video. Shows what one can do with your motivation. Good job from beginning to end. Thanks. I just subscribed.
Really enjoyed your video… I’m retired and do most of my troubleshooting. Thank you for the video.
Thank you accepted.
Exactly what my wife and I were looking for. Thanks for making this great video. 👍🏼
Numbers on roof ac cover is a great idea!👍👍👍
