However several members of the cast and crew including Jon Rhys Davies and Harrison Ford had gotten sick from Food Poisoning the previous day and with a tight schedule and no time for recuperating Harrison Ford, suffering severe stomach cramps and fever said "why don't I just shoot him" and the director agreed. The rest is cinematic history.
As a result, the actor who played the swordsman got a big salary increase to make up for this sudden change. And I’m sure while he must have been a little disappointed that his screen time was going to be short, he probably understood that Harrison was not feeling well and would respect the decision to change the script.

God, Im old. Its so weird to me that there's a whole generation that has never seen this iconic scene. I grew up in a time when everyone had seen this movie. We all loved this scene.

I'm 57 now on my way to 58, and just watching you kiddo's react to this just makes my heart that much more cheerful about it. You kids would've loved to watch this back then in the theaters. A ticket was about $2.25 Reg popcorn and soda was about $2.50 to $3.00. Concession prices were ridiculous back then. At least we thought they were. A Snickers bar in stores was about 35 cents and a slight bit bigger than today's. Lot's of fun during those times.
It adds to the scene that after Indie fired, he turned around and went about his business without waiting to see if the sword guy was actually stopped.

It was actually improved by Harrison Ford himself it was supposed to be a long drawn out sword fight but he was sick that day and improv that and it made the most sense in real life scenario instead of a sword of your looking for someone you don't have time for a sword fight so shoot him and that's the most amarican thing I have seen in a movie and the saying don't bring a knife/ sword to a gunfight or that would happen so that made it funny since it was basically don't bring a knife to a gunfight thing
One of the ads for _Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb_ did a callback to this gag: it opens with a Shaolin monk-looking guy doing an elaborate kata of intimidation, then a fist flies out and hits him with a right hook, revealing the shot is from Indy's POV
The majority of reactors in this video kept saying, "Boss Fight, Boss Fight!" That wasn't a Boss Fight, it was a single button pressing Action Sequence, lol
It's a fairly famous bit of trivia that Harrison Ford sick and feeling pretty bad when they went to film the scene where a swordsman comes after him and de disarms the guy with his wip (that's why it's in his hand) but Ford was so ill he decided to pull the prop gun instead for an early take of the scene and the directors (Speilburg and Lucas) realized it worked better that way and kept it in.
The best part is the "I don't have time for this BS" that Ford uses during this scene, and it's very in character too, like "I'm trying to find my girl man, piss off *blam* "
I remember the video game to the Indy movies on the SNES where you had to fight this guy at the end of a level. You could use your whip or your fists but if you shot him with your pistol, he went down with one hit.
What I love about the scene, apart from everything about it, is that as Indy turns around and the crowd comes around the body, you can clearly see that one of them proudly raising the sword like "IT'S MINE!".

The OG of "I didn't have time for this " in all of movies history.
Why is this scene so funny and so simple?😂😂😂
It was actually improved by Harrison Ford himself it was supposed to be a long drawn out sword fight but he was sick that day and improv that and it made the most sense in real life scenario instead of a sword of your looking for someone you don't have time for a sword fight so shoot him and that's the most amarican thing I have seen in a movie and the saying don't bring a knife/ sword to a gunfight or that would happen so that made it funny since it was basically don't bring a knife to a gunfight thing
I just can’t believe there is so many grown adults that haven’t seen these movies multiple times
when you do all the side quests before progressing the story
One of the ads for _Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb_ did a callback to this gag: it opens with a Shaolin monk-looking guy doing an elaborate kata of intimidation, then a fist flies out and hits him with a right hook, revealing the shot is from Indy's POV
Pure anticlimax, just got to love it.
The majority of reactors in this video kept saying, "Boss Fight, Boss Fight!" That wasn't a Boss Fight, it was a single button pressing Action Sequence, lol
Probably the best and most logical scene in a film 😂
It's a fairly famous bit of trivia that Harrison Ford sick and feeling pretty bad when they went to film the scene where a swordsman comes after him and de disarms the guy with his wip (that's why it's in his hand) but Ford was so ill he decided to pull the prop gun instead for an early take of the scene and the directors (Speilburg and Lucas) realized it worked better that way and kept it in.
The best part is the "I don't have time for this BS" that Ford uses during this scene, and it's very in character too, like "I'm trying to find my girl man, piss off *blam* "
I just noticed after Indy shoots the guy, someone else steals his sword and runs off with it 🤣🤣🤣
I remember the video game to the Indy movies on the SNES where you had to fight this guy at the end of a level. You could use your whip or your fists but if you shot him with your pistol, he went down with one hit.
Everyone: Boss fight.
Indy: F*ck it! I'm going to use a cheat code.
My dad saw it in theaters in 1981 and he said that entire moment the whole theater burst out laughing
What I love about the scene, apart from everything about it, is that as Indy turns around and the crowd comes around the body, you can clearly see that one of them proudly raising the sword like "IT'S MINE!".
To be fair to that dude, I'd loot the sword too, that thing looks fucking awesome lol
