The thing with Home Alone is when you watch it as a kid it’s effing hilarious cause it turns into Tom & Jerry slapstick, but as an adult you realise just how sadistic & bloodthirsty thus film is, how does Kevin McCallister go back to a normal life after the stuff he does to these two? What if a kid bullies him in school?
It may look that way, but real goal was to hurt them so badly they might either give up trying to rob his house, or get them wanting revenge so badly they would follow him to the Murphy's house so the police can arrest them there.
My mum always cringes at that nail scene. When she and my dad were in their first house together, they were out in the back garden doing some work, and she accidentally stood on a plank of wood with a nail sticking out of it. The nail went through the bottom of her shoe, and nearly went all the way through her foot, and when she lifted her foot, the wooden plank went with it. She tried calling my dad for help, but she was in so much pain that she couldn’t speak properly. Hilariously, while that was happening, my dad was talking to the neighbour and said he’d be over in a second without even looking back at her, the neighbour however noticed her pain and said he’d better help her out “Right Now”. That was when he turned round and realised what happened. I don’t know what happened after that, but it’s always stuck with her. She always remembers that moment whenever she sees that scene.
I think Kevin dreamed this sequence. How did he possibly clean that entire house, from his traps and then get a night sleep? When he woke up his mom was there.
