I started my diet change because of stomach bloating, excessive burping and gas and ill feeling and last month dropped coffee/caffeine 100 percent because of one day having stomach pains, which ended after I ended that. My blood work is good.
All that fish, so many metals, pcbs, and other toxins. How could all that dairy be doing you any good? Just take a calcium supplement and a probiotic. If you're willing to drop coffee you should really drop those vegetable oils, just eat walnuts and chia seeds
Another vid on this channel talks about the research concerning dairy, there’s no problem with it and it may be protective. Also, if you’re going to eat fish. Small fish like sardines are very good, as they absorb less toxins. Small fish and diary are fine.

Wheat Germ? 24 mg/100g- so 15g can get you 3+ mg. Much cheaper than supplements-about $3 for 23 or so servings (bobs red mill raw--US supermarket prices)
Spermidine content was high in dry soy bean, chicken liver, shell fish, and blue cheese. A high content of spermine was found in most of the meat products (like sausages, pork, chicken, and turkey), some vegetables (like pumpkin), and cheese.Jan 14, 2011
I started taking 3mg of spermidine per day 3 weeks ago. My energy level and post workouts recovery have improved. Yesterday I did my longest hike (47kms). Will continue to use it for at least 6 months, but will probably decrease my dosage to 1 capsule of 1.5mg of spermidine per day.
No problem. Unfortunately, I have had a lot of issues with RUclips playing God on here. Though they can control their site, there are ways you can still navigate some of their resistance. They think they know what is best for people without asking. Commies for you. Glad this spermidine worked for you. Sounds like it is a bit of a "fasting mimicking" ingredient. Fasting does this autophagy he spoke of at first. Many combine that with meat eating.
Any opinion on this Doc.? Wheat germ is one of the richest sources But, it also contains a lot of methionine which I go to great lengths to avoid with a vegan diet. Would you use wheat germ or look to other sources like lentils and peas etc.?
I understand the link of methionine to aging. But like mTOR,a certain amount of it is actually necessary for several functions. If you are vegan, too much methionine is not a problem. And wheat germ oil has octacosanol as well as a complete vitamin E complex.Edit..the oil keeps better than the germ by far.And to think of it, should only contain miniscule amounts of protein, thus no methionine.NOW brand.
The name is taken from it having been isolated first from sperm samples. However, subsequently it was found in much larger amounts in other plant and animal food sources. The article in Wikipedia has a list. Dr. Stanfield mentions mushrooms but they are only a moderate source.
Can you please do a video on body maintenance and staying young with exercise and sport? Like what Tom Brady was able to do aged 43 and winning a Super Bowl! What can we do ourselves and what supplements can we take for performance longevity? Do supplements like CoQ10 Coenzyme Q10 help? Or Is it purely diet? Or is it just genetics that plays a huge role in how long we can perform at a high level?
What! This is silly. I need to eat 2.2lbs (1kg) of wheat germ or aged cheddar cheese to get 243mg or 199mg of Spermidine respectively. Am I missing anything here?
Great video. 5 grams of wheat germ contain approximately 1mg of spermidine. Is that a good food source, or the gluten content invalidates it? That's less than 2 grams of net carbs. I'm thinking of combining it with dried parsley to get apigenin too.
@@alfvincent There are two, actually 1. When PUFAs are incorporated to cell membranes in sizeable amounts they are expected to start an oxidative chain reaction what will damage the membrane, even leading to the death of the cell or the organelles, particularly the mitocondria 2. Both omega -6 and -3 are precursors of cytokines throughout the same pathway, but while those generated from omega -3 are little or anti inflammatory, the ones generated from omega -6 are highly inflammatory And the lipid profile of wheat germ are very high in omega -6
Hey Doc, what's your opinion on supplementing with Spermidine and the increase of cancer? Does it proliferate or negate carcinogenic activity in the body?
Wheat germs have 243mg/kg .. so if I am reading it correctly a 100g of wheat germ (dirt cheap) is around 24mg of spermidine vs 1mg in supplement .. seems like a no-brainer to me.
Yes I've experimented with this and found that there is a limit to how much wheat germ my body can tolerate - maybe 10-20g per day which is more than adequate.
@@stellarblur Yes, but you are not going to eat a lot of these. I love cheese but it's too much fat and a lot of other stuff you don't want to go way too overboard with that if you care about health and longevity. Mushrooms are great, but they are tough to digest and they are also not exactly cheap if you would like to eat high amounts. If you don't have gluten problems wheat germs is just perfect.
@@drednac i get eat about a hundred grams of mushrooms a day, and a good chunk of two year dry aged cheeder daily almost.... about 50 grams just under that of spermidine
There's an animal based product that has high spermidine, aged cheddar. Given 1-2 year old aged cheddar has significant spermidine where's fresh cheddar has none, there's a chance 3-4+year aged cheddar might have even higher spermidine. In usa in costco you can buy lightly cooked shiitake mushrooms and 3-4 year old cheddar.
Not obvious from the video what you plan on doing. Liver? Mushrooms? Sprouted vegetables? What do you plan on doing? What are sprouted vegetables anyway? Like broccoli sprouts? Thanks ...
Thanks dr stanfeld for following through with this. Great video. I also think your readers would benefit from a re-review of the dosage of vitamin d "The big vitamin d mistake". While Australians get a ton of Sun, many places do not. And your current dose is far too small compared to that paper's recommendation.
Bone density did not decline. Bone density is the wrong outcome variable to examine for vitamin d supplementation because most people aren't using it for that purpose. More recent studies have shown that vitamin D activates jmjd3 and reverses epigenetic age by 2 years in humans. As for toxicity, studies examining over 70k individuals found that toxicity and hypercalcemia only kicks in after daily dosage of more than 30,000 IU and even then it was rare.
Another Japanese video claims its very plentiful in natto. How much is needed for effectiveness? Do you need to use it while fasting or not since it generates the same autophagy effect?
How much spermidine should we be having a day? What amounts were used in the studies? I have gastro-intestinal issues with a lot of veggies so I'd like to know 😅
I add two tablespoons of wheat germs in my yogurt. It becomes a bit of a Muesli doing so but perhaps you could try this. Start with one or two table spoons and slowly increase the dose...
could you please make a video about the best longevity diet with all the molecules that increase lifespan and decrease the risk of getting cancer and other diseases?
Foods list. Vegetable sprouts Soybeans Miso Mushrooms Peas Lentils Pears Broccoli Wheatgerm Cauliflower Leafy greens Potatoes Aged cheese (this means cheese cured in a controlled environment for six months, such as cheddar, brie, parmesan, gruyere and manchego.)
Yes but I think were maxing out our potential lifespan and possibly supplementing may boost it further. We seem to be bobbing around this age not really making a huge leap in older age. Somethings may have to be added to increase the level necessary to attain older age.
Thank you for your videos! I looked into spermidine several years ago but found no supplement at that time. The number of supplements is also a problem for me so it was good to see your 5 suggested nutrients for Elon Musk. Most of the 40 or so supplements I take are ingested in shakes throughout the day. I started taking vitamin C (5-10 gm/day) at age 18 in 1968. It just keeps "growing"! Ross
Vitamin C 5 - 10 gm per day? 😳 Whao! That is huge. Sometime ago I was taking huge amounts like that but I got negative side effect; it reduced my body fat. It was extreme. I experienced weak skin and sagging. Any time I tale Vitamin C the problem starts again. Even taking it 1,000mg for a few days the negative effect already starts. I noticed same fat loss when I take any acidic thing like Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother). Anyone experiencing this please? Any solution/way out of this please?

The one thing I don't like about spermidine is that it can increase permeability with the BBB. So if one is around toxins/pollution/leaky gut ect... wouldn't that amplify the negative effects? I've been up in the air on spermidine for a few years just based on that alone.
Speaking of hair... Is there any longevity supplement that has been shown to be so effective, it even protects hair from going grey? That would be impressive.
the problem with supplements is that most of them are based on wheat germ and then? What about gluten and the intolerance of many people? And on the other hand, if the elderly have more difficulty in using spermidine, it does not seem to me that through food is enough.
When eating wheat sprouts, there is always some gum like leftover in my mouth. Probably gluten. I wonder how much of the spermidine is still in this leftover.
Would love to see a good, succinct list of foods that can provide spermidine, rank ordered by amount if anyone has it. One issue with the supplement is that I see it comes with Zinc included in it which many people may be taking more than enough of already. Too much Zinc can be a bad thing.
I used to eat tons of cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflowers until I discovered that they can cause Histamine reaction, because of the fermentations in the guts which I am prone to, I can't even eat too much Kimchi because of the same reason. But I do still eat a good healthy amount of them.
@Heloise O'Byrne From my research, guts fermentation can cause elevated levels of histamine, which I am getting from too much veggies and fermented food (too much of a good thing probably), can cause both guts problems and inflammations as well as itchy skin, also how my fructose intolerance is likely the cause for huge spike in my BG level too. Will start taking DAO from now on to see it if it can help out with my situation. 🧐
@Heloise O'Byrne Thank you so much, I tried getting some from a few health stores but they don't have them. So will let you know how I got on when I started taking it. ;-) At the moment, I'm using Now Food's Super enzymes, seems to be working quite well so far!
@Heloise O'Byrne Thank you so much, will try to look for it again tmr. I’m already taking histamine blockers like Quercetin and DOA, seems to help so far.
Hi Doc I take it supplementary since about three years now. It was fascinating to find out that it is absorbed by the kidneys. As i'm kept alive by a foreign kidney. So your video gives me some hope that i CAN do something good for my implanted kidney, taking away some fears that i'm only helpless watching my kidney to perform ( or not ) The price is qutie high, but whats the cost of a new kidney ? Maybe i would be dead already without it, regarding all the other Diseases i have too.

Pasteurized milk??? Or raw
Another vid on this channel talks about the research concerning dairy, there’s no problem with it and it may be protective. Also, if you’re going to eat fish. Small fish like sardines are very good, as they absorb less toxins. Small fish and diary are fine.
Keep it up!

0% milk is not good for you. Understand the process.
Nice report. A chart showing how much spermidine is in, say, 100 grams of different foods (including muscle meat and liver) would be helpful.
No point is spermadine when you eating animal fats and protein as they are sure to kill you from heart disease anyway.
TrolloLOL.
I see that Dr Stanfield did include a chart at 5:21. It appears that spermidine is widely available in many common foods, including muscle meat and liver.
@@billb5732 yeah, there is a chart, but unfortunately it doesn’t say how much per 100g there is. For example, i have no idea how much Broccoli I need to eat to get an 8mg dose of Spermidine, which is the amount per dose in DoNotAge’s spermidine supplement, which is $49, to compare to $49 worth of broccoli
I remember in 1989 when my employer got hospitalized and when they sent him home someone told him to start eating wheat germ. He lived few more years . ❤❤❤
Thank you for this. It’s helpful to know where to find this from food sources. Much appreciated.
Seems logical to get it from our diet. So I concur.
I wonder how much spermidine is in my pea protein powder. I was thinking that the processing might degrade it but I am more hopeful now that I learned that spermidine is heat stable
@@dnimon936 I don't think bio available is a big issue with respect to results.
"Babault et al. took 161 bros and separated them into three groups: placebo, whey, or pea protein. Each group was instructed to take 25 g of protein (or placebo) twice per day in addition to training 3x/week for 12 weeks. Both protein supplementation groups outperformed the placebo group for strength and hypertrophy, however there were no significant differences between pea and whey protein supplements. Babault 2015 "

Here is an age adjusted study, but it is soy, not pea. I can't say whether pea protein would perform similarly.
Participants/setting: Chinese older adults (n = 123, 65-79 years) with low lean mass (appendicular skeletal muscle index < 7.0 kg/m2 in men and < 5.4 kg/m2 in women) living in the urban area of Guangzhou participated between October 2015 and June 2016.
Intervention: Participants were randomly assigned to receive approximately 16 g/d of whey, soy, or whey-soy blend protein or maintained habitual diets in control group for 6 months.
Main outcome measures: Lean mass, handgrip strength, and physical performance (gait speed, chair stand test, and Short Physical Performance Battery) were assessed at baseline and 6 months.
"Conclusions: Supplementation with whey, soy, or whey-soy blended protein for 6 months equally maintained lean muscle mass and physical performance in older adults with low lean mass."

By the way, I follow a similar strategy to you. I take 20 grams of whey protein concentrate per day, and 20 grams of a pea, chia, rice protein blend
Thank you for all the information. I enjoy your channel Sir.
Wheat Germ? 24 mg/100g- so 15g can get you 3+ mg. Much cheaper than supplements-about $3 for 23 or so servings (bobs red mill raw--US supermarket prices)
I’m going to do both, ie occasional supplements, but mostly diet. Great video.....
Spermidine content was high in dry soy bean, chicken liver, shell fish, and blue cheese. A high content of spermine was found in most of the meat products (like sausages, pork, chicken, and turkey), some vegetables (like pumpkin), and cheese.Jan 14, 2011
How many tablespoons of wheat germ are you guys taking? I've seen recommendations from 1 tablespoons to 1/4 cup (for ldl reduction).
Wheat germ high in Spermidine. I have been adding to my daily smoothies for two months now.
Good to know. I’m wondering if Hemp Seeds do too? Still digging.
Thank you@
Dude thanks for the great vids and the stack list🥶
I started taking 3mg of spermidine per day 3 weeks ago. My energy level and post workouts recovery have improved. Yesterday I did my longest hike (47kms). Will continue to use it for at least 6 months, but will probably decrease my dosage to 1 capsule of 1.5mg of spermidine per day.
Hi, Could you tell me which brand of spermidine are you using? :) And how your experiment goes?

More great content. Thank you for your efforts.
Love all your info. That's it straight on to the brocoli and mush 👍❤️
Thank you very much. Please keep up the good work.
Well Dr, I am not sure how I came across your channel but I am certainly glad I did. Very informative. Thanks for sharing the research - valuable.
Dr. Stanfield, Why are you taking Pterostilbene and Sulforaphane only on rest days?
Thanks in advance!
The benefits of exercise comes from the temporary inflammation caused by exercise. Sulforaphane reduces inflammation.
@@TheGnuisancev3 thanks for the reply!!
“Hilarious name by the way” 🤣
HAHA We're all thinking it!
The name is taken from it having been isolated first from sperm samples. However, subsequently it was found in much larger amounts in other plant and animal food sources. The article in Wikipedia has a list. Dr. Stanfield mentions mushrooms but they are only a moderate source.
Idene. Lol 😂 hilarious

I'll be adding a tablespoon of wheat germ to my smoothie...get about 1.8 mg of spermidine
What are you adding to your diet to maximize Spermidine in your diet Brad?
wheat germ is the best source
What! This is silly. I need to eat 2.2lbs (1kg) of wheat germ or aged cheddar cheese to get 243mg or 199mg of Spermidine respectively. Am I missing anything here?
Good video. Finally something that appears to work.
Clear, quick presentation thanks
Great video! I missed it. What is the ideal dosage of spermatogenesis be from diet?
Very interesting. I might not get enough for my age, I might try a supplement.
Great video. 5 grams of wheat germ contain approximately 1mg of spermidine. Is that a good food source, or the gluten content invalidates it? That's less than 2 grams of net carbs. I'm thinking of combining it with dried parsley to get apigenin too.
Beware of omega - 6
@@r.guerreiro140 Why, please give reason.
@@alfvincent There are two, actually
1. When PUFAs are incorporated to cell membranes in sizeable amounts they are expected to start an oxidative chain reaction what will damage the membrane, even leading to the death of the cell or the organelles, particularly the mitocondria
2. Both omega -6 and -3 are precursors of cytokines throughout the same pathway, but while those generated from omega -3 are little or anti inflammatory, the ones generated from omega -6 are highly inflammatory
And the lipid profile of wheat germ are very high in omega -6
Hey Doc, what's your opinion on supplementing with Spermidine and the increase of cancer? Does it proliferate or negate carcinogenic activity in the body?
Wheat germs have 243mg/kg .. so if I am reading it correctly a 100g of wheat germ (dirt cheap) is around 24mg of spermidine vs 1mg in supplement .. seems like a no-brainer to me.
Yes I've experimented with this and found that there is a limit to how much wheat germ my body can tolerate - maybe 10-20g per day which is more than adequate.
@@samatoid What do you mean? What happens when you eat too much? I have absolutely no side effects, and I never heard of any too.

How much spermidine is in 2-year cheese?
Thanks Dr Brad for the Great 👍👍👍💝 video. I'm going to start trying Spermidine..
Not obvious from the video what you plan on doing. Liver? Mushrooms? Sprouted vegetables? What do you plan on doing? What are sprouted vegetables anyway? Like broccoli sprouts? Thanks ...

@@DrBradStanfield what are the highest top 5 rich items please?
Something to note: According to Gundry both sprouts and peas are high in lectins and on his list of foods to avoid. Guess you can always eat liver.

@@HenryBee www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/too-much-vitamin-d-may-harm-bones-not-help
Dr Brad, why you didn't say anything about Wheat Germ. Please, say your opinion about that source of Spermidine 🤗

I add two tablespoons of wheat germs in my yogurt. It becomes a bit of a Muesli doing so but perhaps you could try this. Start with one or two table spoons and slowly increase the dose...
It is said that peas contain spermidine. If I sprout the peas, will the amount of spermidine I get increase?

Vegetable sprouts
Soybeans
Miso
Mushrooms
Peas
Lentils
Pears
Broccoli
Wheatgerm
Cauliflower
Leafy greens
Potatoes
Aged cheese (this means cheese cured in a controlled environment for six months, such as cheddar, brie, parmesan, gruyere and manchego.)
I read that soybeans also contain some anti-autophagy compounds as well, so...
soy also known for its estrogen unwanted boost in men. so, a no-no again it seems.
5:24 for the chart - the absolute winner is vegetable sprouts which don't appear on this list
Soybeans aren’t safe for Americans. Natto is the safest form on soybeans.
Dr Gundry say's no to soybeans. I'm sticking with Dr Gundry says on his yes/no food list.
How does this compare to TUDCA?
Ross

the problem with supplements is that most of them are based on wheat germ and then? What about gluten and the intolerance of many people? And on the other hand, if the elderly have more difficulty in using spermidine, it does not seem to me that through food is enough.
Great video.
Too much Zinc can be a bad thing.
wheat germ is #1
So how many "must have dietary supplements" are we up to now? 100? 500? 1,000?
