No no, its definitely wing chun. Look at the formation of his guard. The way he is "feeling" his opponent. He is trying to get him to apply force so he can "capture or teap" the arm and create a opening. Wing chun is highly effective against over aggressive thugs in the street who do not know how to fight. But there guard, footwork, and angles are all wrong for western boxing

You are right, Wing Chun have a big Weakness and it's the Ground Fighting,
But there is something more, the Guy from Wing Chun is using just one stance of many that Wing Chun have, stances and fighting methods are different things, that is the basic stance, that most of wing Chun beginners uses,
I also use it sometimes, when I am trying to read the pattern of the movement of my training partner, a stance that make me take less damage but I don't apply damage as well, but in real life is a seconds stance,
The way they are using the stance it's the way that real wing Chun don't work because there is no way you can finish your opponent in seconds like that, you need to go a hit him fast as you can, mostly in the nose, no one would expect that because the wing Chun you see and most RUclips channels it's comercial stuff ( I hope I'm not offending someone), not raw, dirty, the way a fight should be, wing Chun isn't gentle fight style, should be dirty as fuck, because was made to defeat stronger opponents, so you can't be gentle with them.

This is exactly what Bruce Lee was talking about. He trained under Ip Man himself and concluded that traditional martial arts training has become unhelpful. The various techniques may be excellent, but practitioners are not practised in full contact sparring and are therefore completely unprepared when squaring off against a full contact opponent. MMA is full contact, simple and effective. So is Thai Boxing, Boxing and most ground fighting styles, and that's what you'll see in most MMA fighters, maybe with a few TKD kicks added in. I'm no hater, I would love to see wing chun or akido used effectively, but with the light training methods still in place, I can't see how this can happen. The police will use basic akido locks to restrain aggressive people, and the military will use krav maga to devastating effect, so we know the techniques are solid, but for civilian use the training hasn't evolved with the times. Bruce Lee said this in the 70's, but it's taking MMA to prove it. Time to functionise traditional martial arts training, or consign it to history along with Japanese swordplay.

      David H
      Absolutely right!
Most WC schools never have anything to do with body-conditioning, no warm-up, stretching, nor weight training; while other systems like Muay Thai or boxing adhere so much to the basic body conditioning before any skills being taught.
Also, for so many times, those delicately precise WC skills are always taught in a fragmented manner ( I of course understand there must be some good Sifu who can teach effectively), but the fact is that a student may need to spend almost a year to simply "copy" the forms, the moves, while so many cases the student may not even know how to synthesise the skills learnt, let alone the possibility of any real application - the no. 1 problem for many WC students is that: there are simply way too many key points to bear in mind.
It is also very funny to hear many student may once say when sparring " let's use some more WC skills, we are now fighting like boxers..." To me, words like these imply something important.

@@TOMMYBOWIE I know Wing Chun since I was 13, I'm 41 now, and learned from my dad and not a school. The Wing Chun approach my dad taught me was an intercepting attack with Tan Sao and simultaneously striking or Tan Da on the outside of the non dexterous flank of the opponent. A quick end to an inevitable fight. An intercepting attack and continued strikes to end the fight and go home safe. That's how I survived high school and afterwards some self defense situations working in security. Here in RUclips you can find a similar approach with Dominick Izzo.

Tbh, it's more the individual than the style. A true "Master" of any Martial art if they had more speed, power, reflexes, and could predict your moves and adequately counter them is going to beat any X style with Y style. Right from the beginning the Wing Chun practitioner's arm was stretched way too far. Impossible to develop power with hardly any bend of the elbow. Second his knees weren't bent at all, easy take down. Wing Chun doesn't depend on waving your hand in someone's face. It relies on the attacker closing distance. Once they move, use forward energy and step into their center. When you control the center, game over for them, every opportunity at your finger tips for devastation. Like Bruce Lee said, "it happens all by itself."

Exactly it is a a very deadly and effective martial art when someone actually know how to effectively utilize it and be good at it. It's probably the most technical martial art out there and was developed with street fighting and self defense in mind, foot work, blocking and counter striking is key to the martial art and studying you opponent and quickly dispatching once an opportunity exposes an opponents body or head or face. It is also a very aggressive and quick and technical martial art so why non of these RUclips fights every actually show any wing Chun fighter been quick or actually attacking or taking down opponents with grapples and leg kicks and knee cap or shin kicks, elbow strikes, palm strikes to face or spears to eyes or necks or kicks to the head or torso, winding or knocking out their opposnt is beyond me. Ive actually effectively used wing Chun in real street fights, real underground cage fights and come out alive and unscaved and the victor so why these people can't even utilized wing Chun in any way is beyond and then you get these uneducated inexperienced idiots claiming wing Chun is useless and not a real martial art like they know what they talking about when it comes to fighting after watching UFC or listening to idiots on the internet who think they know what they are talking about. Legit wing Chun when actually done effectively in a fight will save your life. This is quite a bad display of wing Chun it was just blocking and if I wanted to his bad stance and his lack of foot work and evasive moves would have been where I would have exploited him and taken the opportunity to unload on him, and hit vital exposed areas go for breaking the knee and or elbow. Real wing Chun can be deadly so why people continue to insult it's effectiveness is beyond me. Anderson Silva is the only legit UFC fighter that comes to mind that effectively utilizes wing Chun effectively and obviously Bruce Lee watch this fight where Bruce Lee is sparing with his two students and you can see proper wing Chun/ Jeet kune do done right and done with proper honour. He counter strikes properly, his footwork and horse stance and kicks are fantastic and he has perfecting blocking and countering techniques I've effectively uses and it's won me fights. Donnie yen in IP man and Robert Downey Jr in Sherlock Holmes are two other great representations of true wing Chun and how it's utilized properly in fights. Especially Sherlock Holmes envercist on hitting vital parts of the body and breaking limbs to takedown opponents. Which is key to wing Chun and why it is so effective in real legit fights.

I agree. Wing Chun is very technical. I've been to Karate dojos where they'll teach to create space between you and your attacker so that you'll know what to do when they close in. Wing Chun teaches the minute they step toward you aggressively, you step into them and strike first. Stay with them and give them no chance. The Chi Sao training is so that you learn your opponents body movement and to understand your opportunities to strike while keeping in contact with them. It studies the opponents weakness and utilizes destructive force while maintaining contact distance. I fully agree, It is a deadly martial art!

Without jkd, wing chun is just a fragment of the totality of fighting. There are aspects of wing chun that are effective but most of it is too limited on mobility and aliveness. I prefer the trinity of jkd, kali, and wing chun together they form a more complete picture of the stand up striking with aspects of the ground game. Add in jui jitsu and wrestling and you've got a complete fighter.

Why exactly cause it's proven to work, ooh my a martial art that focuses on footwork, closes gaps by blocking with palms, elbows, forearms, knees and legs and side of hands and is focused on quick and percise footwork and blocks and counter striking and grapples, chain punching, spearing with fingers to eyes, to vital arteries, palm strikes to face, can damage or break jaw or nose easily with a palm strike, learns you to kick the back or side of the knee, sweep the leg, kick the back of the shin, has side kicks, roundhouse kicks, kicks to the torso, ribs, teaches you to break arms and to strike vital parts of the leg, many grappling locks, standing arm locks or leg locks as well ground locks or teaches to effectively grab the foot elbow the ankle or strike it with your hand effectively break it or twisting it with a quick grappling and twisting it meneuver, learns you to pick your moment and counter strike quickly and hard and unload on your opponent not allowing him to hit you and studying your opponent, learning weakness in technique, and exploiting it, he keeps jab with his lead right hand quickly damage it or better yet break his wrist or elbow or shoulder so he can't use it. Using hammer fist, back fist, teaches to actually counter strike with the same hand you block with, spears to side of neck, to throat, elbow strikes and palm strikes and punches to the bodies vital parts, to back of thighs, to the back, to back of head, to temples, to vital parts like lungs No not effective in a real fight at all I have been wasting my time learning it all my adult life and utilizing it in real fights, bar fights, street fights, illegal underground cage fights with very little rules and it's close to real fighting as it gets, against other martial artist and successfully winning and walking away the victor and walking away from these real bloody fights alive and not beaten up. Thank you for informing me I can't believe I didn't see how ineffective this martial art developed percificly with street fighting and self defense in mind has saved my life time after time after time. Hmm strange isn't it almost like it's way more effective and deadly than people who think they know about real street fighting after watching a couple of MMA fights or listen to too much crap videos from fake fighters who fight in a ring with so many disqualification rules that theirs barely any point in engaging in the sport, and who have no clue what they are talking about like to actually think because a real technical martial art that they can't get their tiny little heads around actually seems to be more effective than any other martial art at keeping you alive in a real fight, against knife attacks and so on. I rest my case. Learn the martial art, spar for real or fight for real and see for your self how effective it can be if utilized well.

So how about go learn it your see how much it will benefit you as a martial arts skill to have. Instead of watching a couple of videos on RUclips of crappy displays of wing Chun and telling an actual fighter and bar bouncer they wasted their time.
