I love that you have the option of the viewfinder or live view depending on light situations, and the flip screen on 90d allows me to shoot more things without getting in difficult positions
Ive bought the 90d. Id like a mirrorless maybe. For the ability to shoot silently. But I dont like the small size, and I dont like the small battery. And the screen that doesnt flip sideways is a dealbreaker for me. And so is the missing headphone socket. (no camera has a headphone JACK, by the way).
I bought the 90D. The form factor is very important to me, may be in future I will need to get used to the idea of having a much smaller body. But, right now, I still much prefer the bigger size of the DSLR, I don't have huge hands, still I found the 90D a little small to hold without the battery grip, so like I always do I also bought the battery grip. It is quite a big battery grip and heavy because it is using the LP-E6N battery, still I found it so much nicer to hold with the battery grip if that makes sense. Other than that, you don't need to use any adapter for the lenses which is a major plus. In terms of practicality, it is hard to use live view, what I do is to pull the camera forward to make the camera strap taught around my neck which then makes it much easier to aim. Will be getting a LCD viewfinder. What I found is focusing is more accurate in live view in general as opposed to using the viewfinder. Either way, is safe to say the 90D will most likely be my last DSLR.

If you go on the Cowboy Cookout in Yellowstone since 2017, you've probably heard this story of the tourist being chased by a large male bison. That was me ;-) I thought I was dead...the stirrups kept getting lower and lower and I thought the horse would eventually throw me off because once the stirrups got too low, the saddle was slamming into my rear end and I couldn't hold on much longer. Whew! That was a ride I won't forget.
She actually said "She's the owner of the CameraStore's daughter." The clause "owner of the CameraStore" is a phrasal noun. Then she ends that noun with a possesive form "CameraStore's." Therefore, the sentence "She's the owner of the CameraStore's daughter" is gramatically correct.
Is the autofocus when using the EF 100-400mm lens, or in my case I have the Tamron 150-600mm, on the M6ii with the adapter fast enough for wildlife photography?
@TheCameraStoreTV - "Full sensor readout" does NOT mean it uses the full width of the sensor (i.e. there is no crop). "Full sensor readout" means all of the pixels (in this case 32mp) on the sensor are being used and downsampled to create the final image (resulting in extremely detailed footage). This is clearly not happening with this camera (though it may *possibly* be happening in the 4K crop mode).
T is a curious situation. Usually a mirrorless camera is better than a DSLR for video, but in this case the M6 M2 is better for stills, and the 90D is better for video. The battery and headphone jack makes the 90D first choice unless shooting sports stills, but both cameras get big black marks for no 24fps. It might not be used very often, but whenever doing anything artistic and working in a group, the default is almost always 24fps. Plus it is not just amateurs who buy these cameras. Pros also buy cheaper cameras for various reasons and pros often use 24fps. This is an idiot move on Canon’s part. It is as if Canon makes cameras because people expect it, but they are quite happy to see people continue to migrate to Sony just to get basic things like 24fps.
It's more that with in body stabilisation it can work with the lens creating even more stable footage for example the R5 gets upto 8 stops of stabilisation with an image stabilised lens

Interesting review, although what I really want to know from Evelyn and Dave, is this: with all of the equipment you test, what camera(s) do you actually own, and use yourselves? What did you choose to spend your money on?
Hey Christopher, I (Evelyn) bought a Fujifilm X-T3 last fall. It's my baby and is great to travel with so I bring it with me everywhere. I chose it as my main camera because I love the feel and experience. We also have a Panasonic GH5 at home that I sometimes shoot with. But, that is mostly my husband's video camera. Dave has been shooting with Canon DSLRs for many many years. He currently still owns his trusty Canon 5D Mark III, but hasn't pulled the trigger on what mirrorless system to buy into yet.
@@TheCameraStoreTV Thanks Evelyn. I appreciate the reply. Shooting with a crop sensor camera makes total sense to me, especially when travelling, as does using a tried and tested dSLR system. I use the OM-D E-M1, primarily, and have done so for years. Of late, I've been weighing the options for a replacement, but reviews alone are only so useful. Knowing what people trust also helps. Cheers.

M6 needs an expensive adaptor for EF lenses. 90D 4k isn't really 4k? How are they getting 4k? Why didn't you mention this IMPORTANT point for video shooters?
All great and fine. Would be great seeing some printouts (large format, at least 20") coming out of it. Ease of use? I can use a smartphone for insta-snaps so any photos I take have to take print quality first. SLR always my choice because I have large hands and mirrorless have so far not been at all practical, no matter the bells and whistles (or brand)
FWIW, I've printed roadside signs featuring pictures from my GX85 (16mpx) and G9 (20mpx). Remember that only a few years ago that was all the industry had in top-of-the-line cameras, and we did fine. If you have large hands, the G9 is definitely a comfortable camera to hold and shoot with. I found the GX85 too small for professional work, but I adored it for taking casual pictures/street photography.
One thing Canon could've done was building a full frame mirrorless system with the EOSM mount, the M mount is larger than Sony's E mount and if that doesn't allow Canon to put f1.0 AF full frame lens on then so be it, Canon should've known that they are competing with Sony now instead of Nikon, maintaining another incompatible system makes people doubt about your strategy, no room for half measures here, a bigger mount isn't going to help compete with AI trained AF or any computational side of things coming in the future.
Canon claims that the 90D offers face tracking through the optical viewfinder -- their website specifically says "The EOS 90D camera also incorporates Canon’s EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system (EOS iTR AF) that detects and tracks your face - even while looking through the optical viewfinder - automatically switching the AF point to optimize face tracking" -- but your video makes it sound as if that feature does not exist. Does it actually offer that feature, and if so, does the feature work well or is it just a bullshit advertising claim?
That's correct. Canon has new iTR AF technology that uses the metering system in the viewfinder to prioritize a face when it detects one in the frame. However, it does not highlight and track a face as obviously and as accurately as dual pixel AF which uses the pixels on the sensor to detect a person in the scene. We should have specified this. But, in our initial test, the iTR did not behave in a way that was obviously tracking a face. I wouldn't call it BS, as it works. But, it is still not as good as the tracking face and eye detection we see in live view or mirrorless cameras.
John Doe why? Even on EF-S users still tend to use the EF lenses on the smaller cameras. Canon sells lots of EF-M adapters and have little reason to hurry too fast with releasing M lenses. That said, if the M6 M2 sells as well as the M50 does, we are sure to see more M lenses eventually. Up until the M50 the whole M line was a low seller. The M50 changed that, and the M6 M2 is equally attractive as a purchasing option. I hope it is a hit for Canon.
Canon announced their trinity of 2.8 lenses for the R mount and they all have IS so I think it will be a while before IBIS is a feature in their mirror-less bodies.

So how about trying to do m6 mark ii shots with off camera flash with a transmitter, or even on camera, and use the evf. And not the tiny built in flash. YOU CAN'T! Total deal breaker for anyone who does flash photography and wants to use the evf.
Every camera has a tradeoff it's just which one you rather deal with, for me I love the canon 90d because it has the flippy screen and quality is still good enough for photo and video it's a great all round camera, but others may like Sony or nikon for different reasons, there is no best camera it's the camera that's right for you to get started
Guys from other reviews I know the 4K in these cameras isnt really 4K but more a 1080p with inflated files, I was hoping you will share this with the viewers and not hide, this is yet another way Canon is crippling their cameras, if you want REAL 4K footage you will have to look elsewhere. This is a very important point you need to add to your review!

Why don't Canon make it so you can use the DSLR like a mirror less by making the mirror stay up for that mode and then you can use the evf and the other features. I use the M3 , I have two, and the M5 with M and EFL lenses using a 0.7 adapter. Good enough results if you don't get too anal about it.
@@TheCameraStoreTV A technical problem for the clever buggers at Canon to solve, maybe the bottom layer of the prism could be electro active and become a screen when energised and the mirror is kept up or, maybe, one of the 3 reflective faces.
There is something really sexy and sweet about the female reviewer. She is wife material! You both gave us a really good idea of what these cameras are like and what separates them. These small mirrorless cameras quickly lose their advantage over DSLRs once you put on a zoom lens. So are they worth it? Are EVFs better than optical? You can always glance at the screen. What I don't like is having to press a button to go live view. Why can't they just work it off a proximity sensor?
@@randallherreraNyc do you call me nobody? Go play your toys trendy boy. It's funny how people get wet about technology that is 5 years overdated, only because Canon sells it now.
Nothing about video quality, and crop mode in 90d. Nothing about viewfinder AF performance with new ITR system. Just specs and some obvious things, that we know from first wave reviews in day of release... Sorry, but dislike.
No worries. If you are curious, video quality is great on both. No, we didn't mention the crop mode and focused on talking about the full sensor readout. Some reviewers have said the crop mode is slightly sharper. But, when we exported the footage to view it, the difference was negligible.
So the bottom line is that if you want to take advantage of the SENSOR....you must use GOOD GLASS which = The more expensive glass canon lenses. You know the ones with that ridiculous looking red stripe. So at this point you might as well spend an other 2K and get a full frame camera. This way you will have twice the image quality. You just can't fit 15 pounds of Puppy crap into a 10 pound bag. ANd that is what happens when you shoot with APSC sensors. Regardless of the pixels. "Real World Retired Pro Comment!"
Or you can get an adapter, buy the nicer glass, keep the smaller body, and still get double the image quality. There are people who prefer a smaller body and are willing to work around the trade offs. You can get great pictures with APSC sensors and you have to be a fool to think that it can’t. Photography is subjective, but if you know what you are doing you can get a great shot with ANY camera. The photographer is the most important factor and not the camera. The tool is just a tool
@@joshuareveles Every pro that I know. That had shot a APSC we have all concurred. Junk compared to a full frame sensor. I see it in my D7200. And I have good glass. I don't think any camera system will ever be 100% dead. But, are they still relevant/superior to mirrorless in any way? IMO the only true compelling reason to go with a DSLR over mirrorless is battery life. But, there is a solution for that. (buy some extra batteries)
@@TheCameraStoreTV Sorry for the aggressive comment. I do however think mirrorless is the future. Hell, it's even the present. @@naturealbums LOL... out in the wild, you can't scope/scan via that EVF or back LCD for long, the sensor will overhear in about 45 mins, or the noise would have increased. Also, not to confuse between wildlife (in the wild for days) vs backyard or zoo. LOL
@@naturealbums Yes of course $$$
@@naturealbums Sony can do the job, but at a high price!
How does this compare with the Fuji XT30.
So how about trying to do m6 mark ii shots with off camera flash with a transmitter, or even on camera, and use the evf. And not the tiny built in flash. YOU CAN'T! Total deal breaker for anyone who does flash photography and wants to use the evf.
The 90D or the D500?
Which is the best aps-c camera in the market now. Please help me 🤔.
Arrrghhh!!! I want Ev's cute bob back!!!!
The only thing bothering me, is that 120 Fps with no AF ....but otherwise, i am glad that canon Made another great camera, for all of my very expensive lenses....so i havent been investing in glass for Nothing.....😁....and i only wish i was younger Again.... a beautifull woman with a gorgeous smile ,and a daddy who ownes a camera store.....when you introduced her ,you should have startend with the phrase.....once upon the time there was a........😁
Thanks 👍✳️👍✳️👍✳️
I wish I can afford a camera
What a huge sad story and honest words these are.
Geez Louise Canon... That PD adapter price is almost Apple levels. Almost.
I know! It would be awesome if they could install a USB-C port that could charge direct without a PD adapter.
This is what happens when your language doesn't have cases.🤣🤣😁😁
Why don't Canon make it so you can use the DSLR like a mirror less by making the mirror stay up for that mode and then you can use the evf and the other features. I use the M3 , I have two, and the M5 with M and EFL lenses using a 0.7 adapter. Good enough results if you don't get too anal about it.
A hybrid viewfinder would be interesting.
@@TheCameraStoreTV A technical problem for the clever buggers at Canon to solve, maybe the bottom layer of the prism could be electro active and become a screen when energised and the mirror is kept up or, maybe, one of the 3 reflective faces.
Hi
No face detect the the ovf ????????? what a deal breaker that is.
I like dslr because dslr have big battery.
The 90D could have been great, but...
but you haven't touch it yet, correct?
@@themjian Incorrect, I got to play with it briefly at a demo showing.

Nooice😁
Maybe you should check Sony A77 or A77mk2, released 5 years ago... eats that 90D for breakfast...
Artur Gajda you want them to review a 5 year old camera nobody owns?
@@randallherreraNyc do you call me nobody? Go play your toys trendy boy. It's funny how people get wet about technology that is 5 years overdated, only because Canon sells it now.
tubby time
Nothing about video quality, and crop mode in 90d.
My Cheapo 610 blows it away and the 810 there is no match. I mean guys that are shooting birds fine. But for shooting landscape and people on a 2/3's it is a dog. Full Frame only.
"NO MEMORY CARD INSIDE THE CAMERA, Is the guy a clown doing a demo taking loads of picture so he thinks with NO MEMORY CARD INSIDE THE CAMERA. NO MEMORY CARD INSIDE THE CAMERA. NO MEMORY CARD INSIDE THE CAMERA. NO MEMORY CARD INSIDE THE CAMERA. NO MEMORY CARD INSIDE THE CAMERA.NO MEMORY CARD INSIDE THE CAMERA.
The close ups of the cameras where taken at a different time, that's why there's no card.
DSLRs are dead. Change my mind.
I have owned a dslr and always found it frustrating having to work with two focusing systems and having to guess what the final image would looking look like. I have since switched to mirrorless and very seldom find myself using more than one battery for professional shoots despite owning two batteries.
@@ApertureApex DSLRs are only dead to those who don't enjoy using them. I have nothing against mirrorless cameras and I have used the likes of the EOS M50, EOS R, Sony a7III, and the Nikon Z 6, but I still love and prefer to shoot with my DSLRs and if I were to buy a new camera, it'd be a DSLR. No need to get triggered because a new DSLR was released. If you don't like it, don't buy it, simple.
@@TheCameraStoreTV Sony Z batteries
I prefer the ergonomics of the 90d to any mirrorless camera.
