This is the reason I don't do camera reviews over on my channel (despite the requests) - DPReview videos are so brilliant that I couldn't compete! Nice work :-)
Maybe you could do a review of this camera with the speed booster and L lenses for us :)
Appreciate it! Love your lens reviews!
Best lens reviews on youtube!
Hey Christopher🤙🏽🤙🏽 so perfect to see a comment from my favorite lens reviewer on my favorite camera review channel!
Christopher do you know which lenses will use the full potential of the MP sensor for this camera? I'm thinking of the 35mm sigma art but open to recommendations
I love watching these two guys from the camera store as it was one of the first review channels I started to watch.
Superb review. Concise, clear, perceptive and you hit all the main points very honestly. Thanks!
Great work as always guys. Nice to see you have not lost touch with your roots as well. It was nice to meet Jordan today in the store
Great review, guys. Interesting what you're saying about most of the current lenses not being up to the resolution of the sensor. Canon are finally getting their sensor & focusing games together. Their AF has been great for years, but needed some improvement.
The BSI stacked sensor with IBIS they have in development (they filed patents last year and again this year) will probably be amazing. They also filed a patent for quad-pixel AF.
Nice intro too! 🙂
Great review! I would love to hear/see a comparison from you between the M6 mkii and the M50, as one might argue that for instance the added resolution of the former is pointless until further developments on the lens front 😛
Great I really love this camera I agree on what you pointed out on pros and cons, bought this camera after watching some reviews and this is the one of the videos that pushed me to buy this camera over other competition. I also made an unboxing on m6 mark ii and its great! Btw. 24 is now available!
you guys are really taking the intro game to S1h level
Especially when Jordan crawl and cry like a baby on the ground. Honestly I don't really care about cameras, what I like to watch is these guys introducing gears.
That Canon M 32mm F1.4 is a gem! 😍
@@mikhailphoto31 lol
Lo es amigo. Tengo el 22, 28, 11-22, 55-200 y el 32. Y precisamente el 32 es el padre del resto de los lentes. El mejor !!
Jati Setiawan Not no, but heeeeelllll NO!!!👎
José Colón m.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-ef-m-32mm-f1-4-review/2
has abberation issues at 1.4. Thats eough to make it a no buy
Great review. Your reviews look gorgeous and flow smoothly. How hard is it to make the review look like you are just talking about the product to a friend? I'd love to see a detailed behind-the-scenes video of your process in making these reviews.
For example, how do you outline the review? Do you write a script, pick bullet points or do the dialog off-the-cuff? Do you have a crew or is it just the two of you? On this partly indoor shoot, do you use lighting? What is post like. Who edits it?
Thanks for making these reviews such a pleasure to watch.
I'd love to do a BTS episode in the future!
After spending some time with the camera, we do a short bullet-point outline of information that needs to be covered, then Chris and I spend a meal arguing over what our opinions are. We rarely have a crew, except for our Wooden Niccolls episodes. We use small lights when necessary, either a LumaHawk Shadowless 300 Round LED, or an Aputure COB 300D.
Chris edits his Raw files, and sends them off to me, and I edit the episodes. Full length reviews are generally two days of post, and shorts are a day.
Hope this gives you a bit of insight into our process, thanks for the kind words!
You can also use the EVF-DC1!!! I had a M3 and then a M6. I found the EVF-DC1 more versitile as it flips up and is great for taking videos of kids when you want the camera lower and you can look down into the EVF. Plus the DC1 is about half the cost of the DC2 since it's been out for longer.
Nice reviews guys, like the way you guys do it!
One of the reasons I bought this camera is the ergonomics and ease of use you mentioned. Sony Alphas may have better video capabilities, but M6 Mark II seemed like a more complete and convenient option for me
What a great review. I got the M6 Mk II in January 2020. I knew this would be the EF-M swan song, and I have no regrets. The final native lens, the 32mm is one of the best lenses ever made.
Are you have any other lenses better for m6 ii
Nice review guys and you beat me to it! I actually thought rolling shutter in video was pretty well controlled in my tests, but then I'd been using the A6400 previously. I also agree about the lenses - the 15-45mm is definitely not good enough, although i do like having that wider than average coverage at the short-end. x
Gordon Laing interested if the ef-s 10-18 would be good on this camera. Any thoughts?
I am thinking about replacing my 60D with this one
@@eddimaruyama it's cheaper than the EF-M 11-22mm, but obviously bigger especially with the adapter.
Gordon and Chris: What are your thoughts on how the EF-M 22mm will work with the new sensor?
doogieham Chris talked about this on the video. Resolving more than 24MP on an APS-C sensor is very difficult-and it’s perhaps the main reason APS-C has remained at 24MP for so long on so many cameras. Recently Fujifilm moved all the way up to 26MP, and Samsung swing for the fences with 28MP back in the day. I think 32 is overkill (almost as much as 80MP on FF will be).
Gordon Laing The rolling shutter should be better in video since Canon isn’t supersampling their footage from 6K to 4K, but is instead using good ol’ 2012-era line skipping, and it’s soft image quality. Also, 15mm on an EF-S sensor is like 16mm on other brands’ APS-C cameras (like Sony and Fuji, the latter of which *does* have a true 15mm zoom kit lens).
Loving the Breakfast Club fist bump at 1:53 👏✊
Ikr!
Interesting review! Excluding the kit lens, I never would have considered lenses not being up to the task. I'm using Canon's ef adapter on my M50 and don't care for the wiggle in the mount.
Very helpful review, even now in 2024 under consideration for a second-hand M6ii. Many thanks!
The best intro so far 😂👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great 32mpx, great iso performance, 14fps, best crop camera for stills is here, m6ii is in my shopping list
“Oh they’re nice they let us shoot here”
*Chris walks around the back and sits on a forklift like he owns the place* LOL
Finally, most awaited video
Great review - as a primarily Canon 5dMarkIV shooter, all I want is a decent alternative when I want to travel and not take a huge kit, so it looks like this camera with a 50mm equivalent prime would fit that niche perfectly.
1:45 Definitely get the thumbs up for sneaking in that reference.
One thing I would like to know: Does the M6 Mark II turn off the auto exposure bracketing (AEB) as soon as anything is inserted into the hot shoe (e.g. like the view finder seen in this video)? The M6 Mark I unfortunately does that, it has a tiny switch under one of the metal flaps inside the hot shoe mount. This makes it impossible to shoot AEB with even a simple trigger, like you can on the 6D and other Canons.
8:05 Loved the "patience" joke. And the shot. And the drums at 0:14!
Thanks for the review. I was seriously about to buy this but now thinking the video isn't quite there.
Nice review as usual. That 32mm 1.4 lens looks great.
Btw, Chris with a camera strap is an interesting change. :) What brand is it?
I usually shoot with an EVF on my Olympus Pen E-PM1, and I love the fact that it tilts for low angle shots. I know most people wouldn't care much about it, but for a rangefinder style camera, I find it essential.
Yeah, tilting EVF is very nice indeed! Surely more fragile, but can be truly useful. I really like it for low angle shots (which itself is often quite refreshing change to usual), but also sometimes when working with a tripod. I go in weird angles with the ballhead and tilting EVF can save the day. Good stuff!
@@villemononen5303 Honestly, tilty/rotatable EVFs on hybrid mirrorless cameras should be a lot more common by now.
But the screen tilts...
Patrick Rose Canon made a tiltable EVF for the M series. I have it on my M6. I chose that over the newer non-tiltable one for low to the ground work.
Interestingly though, the Canon EVF-DC2 doesn’t have a tilt facility. The larger, earlier EVF-DC1 does and it is probably compatible (both units have been compatible with previous Canons that take an accessory EVF).
Nice review! I hope the beer was good!
5:50 have you had a few wobbly pops by this point or is it just the audio that is that much different lol
I referenced your review on my video "Movie Making Cameras from $600 to $1,000 Part ll in 2020". Thanks for your review!
Thanks for this review. I don't know about that 24p as i am shooting in 60 and 30p and it's not a problem for me
Thanks a lot for a very detailed informative video. 😊 Have you tried with the EF-M 11-22mm f4-5.6 lens? Though smaller maximum aperture it usually gave very high quality images with 24 mega pixel sensors. Please also try the EF-M 22 mm f2 for real how it really perform with the new sensor.
Apart from the dire song, what was the strap used with the M6ii? Great review btw.
about lenses: Sigma announced it will be releasing ef-m trio, most importantly 16mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.4, combined with EF-M 32mm f1.4 and ef-m 22mm f2 - efm prime lens offering will be great value. Fast zooms for the tiny m6 is overkill way too costly (r&d investment)- adapting existing ef-s alternatives through m mount adapter makes more sense (gonna be huge anyway).
aumrdoc I don’t think it’s overkill when you’ve sold tons and tons of S35 cinema cameras that also need a 16-55mm f/2.8 stabilizer lens also.
Great! I've got a question. What kind of adapter do I have to use for M42 lenses? I tried a number of them. It says "No lens attached". On the flip side with 5D mark iii simplest adapters work no questions asked.
Loved this location for the review...
I still want to see an M5 MK II. Give it the same sensor/processor as on this one, built in EVF and joystick of the MK I, fully articulated screen and weather sealing comparable to the x0D line. Then just have to wait for the lenses to catch up.
This intro 😂😂Thank goodness the 24p is finally here!!
How to mount external flash in case EVF is on, say for macro shots etc.?
Your intros are hilarious keep it up. I’m using the Canon M50 I want to upgrade mainly for 4K video. What would you recommend this or the 90D? Thanks!
Mind if I ask where you found that leather camera strap?
That intro took me to a different place 😁
Excellent intro throwback.
when the full review of 90D is coming ?
can I ask which camera you used to record this clip? just love the color!
Would you choose this over the g7x mark iii for concerts and low light? What about the panasonic gh5 for photos at concerts?!
Regarding the shutter, would you say that this can be a problem with long time exposures? Is the EVF better than the M5? Great review, thanks for the impressions.
Can’t use viewfinder and external flash at the same time?
Here we go!
So compared to Fuji Xt30 and m6ii, the choice is between uncropped 1.6x vs extra crop plus oversampling 4k?
Does this camera output audio through the HDMI port? If I use an external monitor, will I be able to use that to monitor audio?
1:48. Epic move there. Love that movie
Does Eos M6 Mark II autofocus work during recording and can you change focus points while recording? I have seen it does not work in slow motion, but does it work i normal mode?
A question for Jordan: For "4K" 30 fps, what kind of bitrates did you guys find (highest and typical)? Also, with Canon's announcement that 24fps will come in early next year, it will be interesting to see of "4K" 24 fps gives better files. I am looking forward to multi-camera "Crop Frame" comparisons.
Hello, what lens would you recommend for this camera for wide angle for real estate or for nature pictures?
Hey I've got a question, can I use the viewfinder while shooting video? Or is it only for photo?
Love you guys. You have taught me a great deal about photography and film making. I’m looking for the best mirrorless or dslr for around $1200 (body only) to record my nieces. One is a gymnast and the other does local community theater. I will be purchasing a 70-200mm f2.8 lens for whatever body I choose as well. I’m looking for eye autofocus that functions in 4k. Some have suggested Sony a6600 (I’m a little concerned about the rolling shutter) others have suggested Canon M6 Mark ii (some have said eye autofocus doesn’t work in 4k) Any help would be appreciated.
Indeed love the intro
I love the singing at the beginning - in a world overwhelmed by stupid pop melodies, it's good to hear an interesting line. Also agree with your statement, 24p video is awesome, gives the right look and better low light performance
BTW you can also connect EF lenses via a 3rd party focal reducer, which can make for some interesting focal length/aperture numbers (interesting for video too). IMHO Canon should make a first-party one.
Oh and the World is short on zoom lenses that look as good as good primes, especially at kit lens prices.
They should also turn out a higher-MP EVF option at some point - one of the advantages of it being modular. Provided they have the in-camera stuff to support that.
It wouldn't suit me, but for a lot of people the approachability is good.
Also worth a test with a 400/2.8 to see how much more detail you get than a 5Dsr/5DIV/etc... Way cheaper than getting a 600...
Great review
Would this be good for a beginner? I am deciding on this or the Sony a6400. I will most likely be doing photography more than video. Pics of the city life and animals.
Are these lens Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM and Sigma 24 - 105 mm f/4.0 DG HSM compatable with M6 mark 2??
Great video. Thanks.
My A6400 is still within the return window. The sigma primes are massive except for the 56mm. Does the Canon M mount have better small primes than Sony. How does Sony 35 OSS compare with Canon 32 and the Sony 24 f1.8 vs Canon 22mm f2???
I just need those two focal lengths and need the camera to compact.
Thanks.
Nice camera (I have one), but I'm not finding the dial function to be an improvement over a dedicated exposure compensation dial on the M6. It would be less fiddly if you could cycle through its options via repeated presses on the button. And how come it you dedicate it in the menu to exposure compensation you have to press the button before turning the dial does anything? I find that a needless extra step. I do like that the EVF is removable and you can still use the first EVF that tilts up. And how come Chris always looks too lightly dressed for the weather?
I have a very important question, please answer quickly with regard to the microphone. Is it possible to connect the microphone Rode to this camera or not compatible with it?
I want to use a wireless microphone
Thanks for your understanding
I have a canon m6 mark II and I want to put the rokinon 85mm F1.5 on but don't know which adapter to buy can someone help me? Thanks
Can we get a Jordan video focused review of the omd em1 mk2 after the 3.1 firmware adding phase detect af to the video?
I am also thinking about getting that camera after the new firmware. I heard the new software has turned that camera into a great video cam. Watch Peter Forsgard, Red35 Photography and Kinotika's review on that.
A bit of a narrow topic, but I've got that camera so I'd love to hear what JD thinks of FW3.1 too. Especially if he has some tips for getting the most out of it - which, of course, he will.
hello according to your experience which will have better image quality in the video? Canon M6 Markt II OR SONY RX100 M7? THANK YOU
Hi... Greetings from Indonesia. Really love your video, very informative. Pls advise, as I couldn't decide which one to choose: 18-150mm or 55-200mm? I already have 18-55 kit lens and 22mm fixed lens. Am looking for a telephoto lens, actually. So 55-200 would suit me best. Yet, 18-150 is really attractive as it can serve as all-rounder lense: wide and zoom at the same time. So, pls give me some advices here. Thanks... !
Wow amazing Video! Thank you! may i ask with which camera have you filmed yourself at 11:06? :)
dang, that lady at 10:39 looked like a robot
All I want is the perfect camera all I want is the perfect camera
Camera Conspiracies fan? Same here, man, same here. Where's the Canon hammer?
have u found one and which is it?
24p is on its way to the 90d, RP, and the M6 II
I use the 15/45 for milky way photos on an m5 and it works great
What camera is used to film the review/ speaking portion?
I have the sl1 and getting really old and outdated so should i go with 90d or m6 mark ii?
The 90d has a headphone input and a cropped 4k mode that is sharper than the no crop mode more dedicated buttons and dials and a large battery and a large amount of ef and efm lenses to choose from. The m6 m2 has a better evf and faster burst shooting.
In DXO lens there is review that they tell how many megapixel of max certain lens capability.
The way reviewers treat this issue...especially DxO...is a pet peeve of mine. Lenses do not "cap" sensors (or vice versa). Final resolution of an imaging system is always going to be less than the weakest component, but improving ANY component improves the final result. Note that this is not an opinion, it's scientifically demonstrated and the formula for computing it can be found online.
What does this mean in the real world? In the case of a M6 II the final image using a 15-45 zoom may not be as good as when using, say, a Sigma ART lens. But it will be better than the 15-45 on the old M6. So if you were happy with prints from the old M6 and 15-45 you are not going to be disappointed with the same lens on this new camera.
Amazing intro !
But what's the fate of the M mount? I've been thinking about this, the 90D and the RP and I just don't know if Canon is putting enough stock into this mount to keep it alive.
According to the review, M6 mk II has a lot of great features. They look a bit overkill for me. I'm looking forward to watch Fujifim X-A7 review. 😛
Just bought my own m6 mark2 but I can’t shoot photos nor video :( can’t find a fix
We need a flat-shaded polygon version of Jordan and Chris NOW!
Can someone get on this, please?
@@thatjordandrake 😍
Nice review
As of 13 Mar 2020, Canon M6 MkII firmware update added the option to capture movies in the frame rate of 23.98p.
Hey Chris what are your thought on the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2? Considering pairing this with an EOS R and not sure if we should invest in RF Glass without knowing where canon will go with their R line up
He checked it out on our previous channel:
ruclips.net/video/AocdPDfW1eA/видео.html
Does this camera also crop to 20MP in raw when taking stills?
Can M50 pick af point from touchscreen as well? While looking thru viewfinder
Yes it can.
nice review! when does the 90d review drop?
nice camera, buying my fuji xt3 soon
Lovin the intro more more more
In terms of sharpness and detail which one would you recommend me to buy, iPhone 12/13 Pro Max or Canon M6 Mark II? And my second question would be if Canon M6 Mark II can compete with iPhone 12/13 Pro Max in nnight and low light situations? Thanks in advance for your response.
EOS M6 Mark II 24p will be back starting 2020 with a Firmware Update !!
How does the M6 Mark II compare to the M50?
@DPReview are you going to do a complete review like this for the Canon 90D? Because of the new sensor, I would love to know if this camera will be good for wildlife photography / video as Canon is targeting it for. I have a Canon 500mm f4 L IS lens (version 1) and a Canon 300mm f2.8 L IS (version 1). I would like to know if those lens will resolve the new sensor on the 90D as well as the tracking on the 90D for wildlife such as birds in flight and low light / high ISO performance as a lot of wildlife are only out during those times. Thanks for your time :)
We'll be looking at the 90D shortly, and I know the written review is being worked on.
Every EF and EFS Lens I tested on the Canon EOS 6M mark 2 is sharper than the lenses that come with this camera. So I advise everybody to buy the original canon adapter and use your old lenses. You will get way better images with less grain. Regarding the IS, the kittens has build in IS, but you have to turn the IS in the camera menu to on too for filming.
What about sigma 16mm and 56mm
However finding alternative Glas for EF-M, EF-S and EF might be less a challenge than for the Fujifilm-X-Bajonett. With system native and cheaper 3rd party adapters available. Today many people switching to mirrorless like Canons R many awesome EF lens became available for a split of the price of new classes - a Canon L IS UMS II f2.8 goes for about $650 the initale price was close to $3000 and this lens is still one of the best zooms made in history of photography. While Sigma has pushed out many extreme excellent ef-mount primes through out the entire range from 20-135mm, redefining image quality and speed.
There are lots of APSC EF lenses from Canon and Sigma. I don't see a problem with using the adapter.
But you start to trade weight for performance and at that point why not go for the RF system, seeing as you are going into a price range that's obviously higher than this intended market? Mirrorless doesn't just mean more compact bodies, it also means great quality lenses that can be smaller. See for example Sony's new 35 1.4 and 20 1.8. Also Nikon's doing a great job with these.
