- My second ever car race! I was kindly invited by GT Radial to be part of their team in the VW Fun Cup. This round was at Oulton Park - a circuit which I'd never driven before and had little experience of in sim racing.

@@NoTimeLeft_ I know it's a joke. The point I was trying to make (apparently badly) is that while Williams is a bad team, a Williams seat is NOT bad. Russel turned it into a Merc ride by crushing his team mate and Albon is doing the same thing only more so
I'm pretty much a boomer so watching people play video games is a pretty silly idea to me. But watching this guy play GT7 and really break down racing has been really interesting and has grown my appreciation for the sport. Now watching him take his vidjya game experience and bringing it to real racing makes it all the more impressive. Great stuff.

it happens all the time, but it is still insane to watch these sim racers actually get a chance to go racing, and are on par with veteran racers

All I did was clarify implicitly for those who follow the channel that Steve did not jump straight from sim-racing to real life car racing like, as you said, plenty of others have done. If someone who didn't know he did karting saw that statement they wouldn't know the implication.

I raced in the funcup for many years, this brought back some good memories. You did a stellar job in your first race in the series and second ever race, with a great move into druids past the backmarkers, hats off. Can also confirm just how brittle those splitters are!
This is so awesome! I had the chance to drive a BMW E36 325i on Zandvoor Circuit for a few laps and it felt amazing. Knowing how those laps felt really gives a sense of what you must have felt in this race, the acceleration, g-forces in banked corners, the adrenaline. Amazing stuff Steve, nice racing and congratulations on your first ever podium in real car racing!!

This is the racing I really like. It’s not full-on pros out there in special-built race cars doing 180-200mph down a back straight. It just makes it seem that much more fun, to me.

Cracking mate, a job well done by all and another step taken in the right direction, I am so happy for you. Oulton Park holds the fondest of memories for me as it is our local race track (about 20 miles). The first person that I saw tear up the tarmac there was the late great Barry Sheen when I was seven or so. I used to go there all the time with my grandfather (R.I.P) and my father (R.I.P.) but since my father died I have not been back as my son has no interest in motorsport. I would, however, had made the journey had I known that you boys were there, it's a wonderful circuit.
