My dad has been an antique dealer and has done estate clean outs and auctions for well over 60 years, and throughout my entire childhood from 2000 to 2018 I was blessed enough to see some of the craziest barn finds/ estate garage finds ever. Its mixed feelings of wishing i could have been old enough to buy all the awesome stuff I saw and drive them, and a contentness knowing all the historic preservation he has been able to accomplish over the decades, both in the automotive sector, as well as countless other items that would have forever been lost. Things that changed the world.
That feeling SUCKS. Knowing you let a good or even great thing slip through your fingers. Estate cleaning sounds like a dream job to a gear head. Hell, I probably moved quite a few houses worth of s*** going through people's barns and garages looking at vehicles for sale.

Saturn IRL had factory upgrade support, too. GM Performance Parts stage 3 kit would get you up to 260hp and keep factory warranty. Aftermarket support is still strong in these through companies like ZZP. I daily drove one with 260hp stage 2 kit from ZZP for over 100k. It was super reliable and fun to drive. Some Saturns had the ECU under the cup Holder, causing some of the weirdest intermittent electronic gremlins ever, when peoples cofee/soda would spill.
In the 06 Saturn Redline with "Competition package" I can say that you are definitely right. Directly under the cupholder was the ECU. I would have to say not really the best placement for the ECU. BUT IN SATURN'S DEFENSE...The cupholder an it's surrounding(the complete middle console) was one piece. Now they didn't have any holes to let in water but if somehow something did happen. It's going right on the ECU.
The Z31 300ZX is so fucking beautiful! It has always been one of my favourite JDM designs. I don't understand why it hasn't got any real attention compared to the Z32.
Too bad people like to jack the prices up on even pretty beat up and/rusty ones nowadays when they're honestly still not worth that much. This is ruining the Z car enthusiast base. I got mine for $600 running and driving, though it is a little rough in the cosmetics department.
JDM is “Japanese Domestic Market”. The Z31 was available and mostly marketed for the North American market. I guess what I’m saying is that it wasn’t “JDM”.
@@carshius79 I know what JDM means. I didn't know it was mainly targeted at the American market though. It's still fucking beautiful, especially in comparison to the Z32

@@jmgerraughty Unlikely that the Storm will go up in value. Possibly the GSI model but doubt it. Since the Storm is entirely a rebadged Isuzu product it's more likely thats its nearly identical twin, the Isuzu Impulse will go up since they are super rare compared to the Storm.
If anything, I feel like the supercharged 3800s and the Saturn Ion Redline will be one of those “best kept secret” cars. Underappreciated, and ignored on the auction block, but they will have their fans and are not bad cars performance wise, for their era. I knew a guy with a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP who said it could do 0-60 in about 7 seconds. Not bad for an early-2000s sedan.
@@dylanbrown8246 I've only timed it once, and that was before the new header I installed recently. I'm sure it'll get much quicker when I install all of the stage 3 mods, already have half the stuff for it.

I have also had an 05 cobalt SS and a 09 cobalt SS. The redline is my daily with almost 200,000 miles and no issues. My weekend car is 05 Mustang GT with lots of fun upgrades running on E85
my buddy had a saturn ion in high school...dude drove that thing like he was in a demolition derby everyday, and it still made it....for a few years. i'd say they're very reliable cars in general.
The Ion Redline bit was pretty funny lol. But I’m not gonna lie, they’re pretty cool little cars. 300+whp on a maxed out M62/TVS build or go all out and bolt a turbo kit on. Oh btw did I mention that the stock bottom end will hold 500+whp with that turbo? Pretty cool imo.
8:33. Yep. That’s why I bought one and bought SLP parts. Very wise. It attracts attention still. As long as it is clean and has ZERO RUST, and service records, it WILL be worth money! It’s pretty much a FWD, 4 Door Grand National! I follow what going to be collector cars since 1999 and hit EVERYONE on the nail. A SVT Focus will be another one that is going to skyrocket. I had a Suzuki Swift GTI for MANY YEARS and babied her. I sold her back in 2016 and regretted it. 100hp, 1800lbs. Alittle rocket that you can throw around corners and have tons of fun. Mine did a 14.9 1/4 mile with “choice” mods with no nitrous, boost, or major engine work at all. The Cobalt SS and the Saturn Redline will be worth it since it was a FACTORY Tuner car. Cars with Superchargers and Turbos or high revving from the factory will draw money in.
Yeah they’re clearly trolling. They hype up the cobalt which has the same exact engine except the later years when they put a turbo instead of a supercharger. Fun fact Saturn was the test run and Chevy liked it and decided to put it in the cobalt
My family owns 2 Saturns, one of them is almost at 300,000 miles. My mom bought it new in '99 and it still runs today. That's the car I learned to drive manual on. If you take care of it it'll last forever.
My Ion has been extremely reliable, I've owned it for over 5 years and I work in country areas in agriculture so it takes a beating daily and so far the only thing I've had to replace is the alternator which I got for $40 at a junkyard.
2003 Acura CL type S. 6speed manual transmission, they only made 2800 of them, and 800 only with navigation. I found one for 2500. Definitely a sleeper.
After waiting 4 years one popped up with navigation in black but the seller called it a collector's car and jacked up the price a couple thousand dollars. So now I wait again.
I've owned both a Saturn Ion and a Dodge Caliber. I actually still have the Saturn. It's been, overall, really reliable. The Caliber, on the other hand... I had to replace the ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links, shocks, struts, and rear toe arms twice each in just four years. I had to replace the fuel pump and both front brake calipers. The forward frame rail rusted out, leaving the engine on the verge of falling out, though a factory recall on that part saved me from a $2000 repair. Finally, the fuse box under the hood started corroding, which apparently is a common issue. I got $400 for it when I traded it in, and the dealer literally had it scrapped because it would have needed almost another $5000 in repairs. The Caliber was easily the biggest piece of garbage Dodge ever put their badge on.
Nice to see the Redline getting some form of attention. They're actually pretty neat. GM used this car as a test platform for the famous Cobalt SS. They came with the 2.0l supercharged lsj motor, and some package options included Recaro seats and a LSD trans. They make just as much power as the s/c Cobalt, but are lighter, because plastic. They are by no means fast, but they're quite quick. I have an '04 Redline with the Recaro package and LSD. It may have 208,xxx miles, but sure as shit, it still pulls on my mk7 GTI. Not the prettiest cars, but they're really fun to drive and absolutely eat up winding roads.
I had a 07 Cobalt ss w/2.0 lsj but no lsd. I thought about connecting a WOT switch to the turn signal because if you floored it, it would pull you into another lane. Light cheap car! Fun as shit to drive! Stage 2 cost like 500$ and took maybe hour or two to install with normal tools most people have in their garage and a rented pulley puller. Man do I miss that little shitbox
What all came in the recaro package, and would you recomend it as a first car? I'm a jdm guy but all the enthusiast models are jacked up in price right now, and the saturn seems weird and extremely uncommon in the car community, which is good
Frosty as far as i know the recaro package was just the seats but most of them have the lsd because they were fully optioned out. And as far as a jdm car id stray away from anything that’s high miles because as a first car you don’t want to be working on it 24/7 and don’t have another car to rely on
Frosty, id maybe recommend the ls400 or the sc400. The 1uz is stupid reliable if you keep oil in it and off the rev limiter and its auto so don’t have to worry about learning stick and u got room for friends. And i would say miata but they are so expensive rn. I have a 03 nb and saved for a long time to get it so maybe stay away from anything on tik tok too
@@frosty8936 depends on what you want to accomplish with the Redline, is it a daily driver or a weekend warrior?. If you find a lower mileage one with little rust underneath, and depending on what has been done to it and how it was taken care of. I love mine but I also found an 04 with under 60k miles, and no rust underneath. They are pretty peppy stock, but a few upgrades, some cooling mods, and if you add E85 to the mix you can be at 280 hp!

I drove my SL1 Saturn over 300k miles. That's literally past the moon. One of the most reliable cars I ever owned, Jerimiah.
Mine died at 262,000. Would have kept going but the repairs weren't worth it. Bought it for $500 and did all the small repairs my self and learned a lot. Got like 20k miles out of it. Shit car but man it refused to die
Drove an SL2 for 12 years before the trans gave out. Bought it for $1000, put on 130k of 210k total miles and it never gave me any serious trouble. Loved that car.

Some Saturns had the ECU under the cup Holder, causing some of the weirdest intermittent electronic gremlins ever, when peoples cofee/soda would spill.
I can proudly say not in the 1997 SC1!
Which saturns? That sounds like an urban myth
