As you know, there will be some negative remarks. We love our Ram. A couple recommendations i would make is to use Archoil 6500at each fill up, 6400 every 5000 miles. This will help keep your DPF and injectors clean. Also, keep a bottle of Rislone DEF treatment with you. If you start getting issues with your DEF gauge, the Rislone will help to dissolve crystals, especially in hot weather. Enjoy the truck! Its a beauty and you will love it!

Awesome! Thank you for sharing this. I've been trying to research different fuel additives but there are so many it's hard to pick the right one! I didn't realize they have def treatment as well. On the list!

Congrats on the new RAM 3500 dually we are over 100k on ours and still love it. That 50 gallon tank and 4:10 gears are awesome. One thing I have recently learned is these Cummins have hydraulic lifters so as it gets some more miles it's recommended to use a 10w30 instead of the heavier oil as it will destroy the lifters prematurely.

    "Grey Ghost".
Glad that you found 'the' truck for your needs. I know that feeling of finding 'the one' when my wife and I moved up to a 3/4 ton Chevy 2500 HD High Country gasser, for towing our 32-foot bumper pull. As you've been Ford loyal, but pragmatic, we've been Chevy loyal, but pragmatic. When we decided to upgrade from our Chevy 1500 HD, we looked seriously at Ram and Ford, but the Chevy High Country 6.7l gasser met our needs best (and at the best price), and the interior and ride are fantastic. My wife loves it. I'd debated gas vs. diesel, and ended up with gas, mostly for money reasons ($10K over gas, expensive maintenance/repair costs). The one thing that I REALLY like about a diesel tow vehicle is that refueling is sooooo much easier at truck stops. Getting our gasser into and out of gas stations is very arduous at times.
Based on a couple of your past videos, I've installed an airhorn into the Chevy ("Ulysses") and have upgraded the pipes to Borla Catbacks. Love both. My wife and I are also Harley riders; so, we REALLY appreciate nice pipes and a strong horn. I really enjoy your channel. Keep the content coming!!!

I had a 2019 F450 pulling a 42 ft, fifth wheel. It had 410 rear end. Gas mileage was never great but loved the truck and tight turning radius. Sold it when we bought our 2021 Renegade Verona super C. We now tow a 2021 F150 behind the coach and it works well.
On the other hand, our daughter bought a 2018 Ram 3500 dually new. It now has 139,000 miles on it. She pulls hay and equipment trailers as part of her job and it drives as good today as when she bought it. It rides better than my F450 and gets better fuel economy partly because it has a higher gear ratio rear end. I think it is a 377 gear verses the 410. Just the same it continues to be a great truck so hope you have the same experience. I think you will.

Using the Open Roads card makes it nice for fueling/DEF. The first mod on our dually was installing a larger fuel tank, went with a 57 gallon Titan tank that replaced the stock, no more fuel range worries! You will love the diesel both up the hills and especially down them with the exhaust brake. I went for a new truck this year as well, but went with the GMC 3500 SRW/Duramax. Just could not get past the roller lifter issues being reported to go with the new Cummins. Drove several Dodge/Cummins years ago as work trucks and they were solid engines but with flat tappet lifters. The L5P Gen-II has treated us well so far. Hope you have excellent luck with your new TV. Old blue certainly treated you good!! All the best to you both!

Cody and Angela congratulations on the new truck. I myself had alway been a Chevy person but when looking at the towing rating, and the room the Rams have inside I became a Ram owner also. There are a few things you need to get now. (1)a new set of Train Horns. (2) A bed cover Tyger has a great one that fits perfect around $300.00. But you will Love your new truck. Also Cody I noticed you stepped up on the bumper getting in the back. There is a pull down step under the bumper on the rivers side. If they still put them on with that stay safe and very happy travels.

I went from a F350 Gas to a RAM 3500 as well, after buying Fords for over 40 years. You will not be disappointed. I have the same engine in my '22 RAM Mega Cab and you will need to find your sweet spot on your truck. Mine is 70 MPH pulling or not (its that exceeding 2k rpm where the mileage drop off will happen) - you will have to wait until break-in to see your best MPG.

Well first of all Nicely Done. You Sir have made the perfect decision and I am not saying that lightly. The vehicle that you had you were probably going to soon invest anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 into it and that is including tires. Then in your video you stated that the comparable Ford product they were going to charge you an additional $15,000 from what you paid for your RAM so by my calculations you have saved $30,000. NICELY done. Now I have something to share with you. I have a 2016 Ram 3500 6.7 HO Diesel Laramie long bed with the Asin Trans which is bullet proof and I pull a 41 foot Heartland Bighorn that is LOADED - and I mean LOADED. I put her on the CAT Scales Truck & RV and she came in at 28,280 LBS. I know she needs to go on a diet.... LOL the reason I'm telling you this is because this combination is perfect. You will never have any problems going up any grade that you pick with that motor. Now my vehicle that I had built for me has one difference that yours doesn't. I always go 60 to 65 mph and never go any faster than that and doing 60 to 65 mph Towing 28,000+ LBS my RPMs are ONLY 1300 to 1500 and the difference is that of a 4:11 rear end I have a 3:42 rear end. That motor and trans package purrs like a kitten up of any grade I put it on. That is a fantastic truck you purchased. I am so glad to see you made the perfect decision.... 👍

Thanks! I do LOVE this truck! It just pulls like no ones business! I still keep it around 65 when towing but it's a huge difference from gas. If you're not watching the tach it's hard to even tell when it shifts!

  • @robv4053

Cody, congratulations on the granite crystal RAM dually! I converted from a GM man a decade ago, and have had nothing but RAM trucks since. My 2019 5th Gen 1500 Limited is the same color as yours, but I have towed our Solitude exclusively with my 2015 RAM 3500 Laramie Longhorn 4×4 crew cab dually long bed with Cummins/AISIN/4.10 powertrain. No big OE fuel tank offered back then, but I swapped the OE for an aftermarket S&B tank. With the rear OE airbags and Reese Goosebox, we absolutely love the range and tow quality!
As a former mechanic and a professional engineer, I do all my maintenance and plenty of advanced repair work (still have sticks and bricks with a full shop). I run only Mopar, Fleetgard, or Wix filters, Rotella T6 engine oil, SynPower full synthetic gear lube in the diffs, Mopar fluid in the T-case, and the AISIN gets ASRC/3309. Have never added a drop of additive to diesel or DEF, but always fill with fresh as possible and none of it sits even being a part-time RVer. I have found the rear differential needs more frequent changes even with good freeboard on payload and axle limits, which I attribute to long runs at highway speed with 4.10s along with the frequent climbs living in the mountains. I service the AISIN sooner than the maintenance schedule and always do filter and fluid. I installed a supplemental fuel prefilter setup when I swapped the tank, and change that filter at the same time I do an oil change, and the $10 filter doubles the life of the factory filters! I highly recommend adding the prefilter! Oh, I change engine oil and filter every 9K after lab analyses helped identify the sweet spot. Additionally, I encourage you to run Centramatics front and rear. I also personally run Crossfire equalizers for each pair of rear tires and the evenness of tire wear has been incredible since doing so. The manufacturer can set custom pressure and make custom hose length for an excellent setup for these! Enjoy the new towing experience!

    • @RVUntethered
      @RVUntethered  2 месяца назад +1

Thanks for all of that. I’ve heard a lot about fuel treatments but we only fill up in places that turn over fuel and we virtually never sit. I did hear advice to treat the def, not sure on that. I do plan to go with T6 for the oil and start an analysis program from day one. Good stuff!

When I switched to a DRW I had consider adding air bags, but after some research I opted for sumo springs. I couldn’t be happier with the decision. I’ve towed our 42 foot fifth wheel (GVWR ~17,500) nearly 2K miles with this setup and it works great.
I am also curious about your decision on not going with some type of gooseneck conversion. We tow with the gen y gooseneck and am extremely happy. I know you (Cody) are in the transportation industry for which you reference as a decision to not go with the gooseneck conversion. I am curious about your opinion around the stress lateral movement puts on your trailer frame using a kingpin. A kingpin setup doesn’t seem to allow much lateral movement (side to side). This is not the reason we went with a gooseneck. I am curious to know your opinions on the subject.

More posts = more better! As of now, I don't think we'll be adding air to the truck. Our trailer really doesn't squat it and the ride is great! With a heavier trailer (someday), I may change my mind. Our current pin weight doesn't really call for it, yet :) As far as the hitch, it's probably a mental thing for me. I've seen 18 wheelers do 500k and many more miles without a fifth wheel issue and aside from user error, they're pretty much foolproof. I really liked the Pullrite OEX ball & coupler setup but I just couldn't pull away from the fifth wheel. My only real thought is that Grand Design/Winnebago designed our rig with a fifth wheel, probably better not to rock the boat just in case something happens. Frame issues seem to be all of the rage right now so we're really cautious about changing things & make sure our weights are in check consistently.

I get that regarding the kingpin. My FIL is an over the road long haul driver. He has a similar opinion. Our main reason for the gooseneck was bed space and the easy of having access to the entire bed. I believe lateral frame stress is unique to fifth wheels, especially if the frames are under built. You won’t see those same issues with tractor trailers, because they are over built.
If you all are ever back in east TN, it would be great to meet you all.

We had some big changes recently, that have caused us to completely tear our plans apart (with the exception of Florida in January), BUT we are trying to put some stuff together, so we are a little more accessible through the year. Some meetups, or something. :)

Congrats on the new rig! I can understand the stress of buying a new vehicle and pulling a fifth wheel without time to test everything out. This past summer we took a road trip from Wa to Tx with our 2017 Ram and fifth wheel. When we got to Tx we stopped by a local dealership and they just happened to have the exact truck we were looking for and had a huge discount on it. After a couple nights of debating, we pulled the trigger on a 2024 Ram dually. It was a little nerve racking knowing our first real test drive of the truck was gonna be a roadtrip back to Wa pulling a fifth wheel. Haha! But all went well.

That’s great! It gave us a little anxiety, hooking up and towing for the first time. The unknown is the scariest!

We took our 1st trip this past weekend. That was a sweet ride.

Congrats on the new truck! I do love that Laramie package but the bigger screens distract me a bit. I'm a "less options the better" guy haha. This truck rides incredibly well for a ton truck. Zero complaints so far!

The new truck is exactly what I’ve been wanting even the color. My current 2015 F250 has 267k miles replaced the CP4 before it became an issue. I can’t decide if I want a toy hauler or just a roomy 5th wheel.
