"People don't *want* an end to the fossil fuel era!" 🤦‍♂️ You won't make any sense of her. I'm convinced she doesn't even watch herself.
The ghoulish glee she gets when she wags her finger and "gets to" use a codescending voice, it's performative stupidity at its most cringe.
I pity people who cheer her on - "Yeh, get 'em, J!" All those idiots that want "clean water & air," "equitability," "government-accountability," "moderation," "foresight" and perhaps a chance at leaving the Earth somewhat 'as found,' for their kids... Yeah they're fucking terrorist nutjobs, them lot."
She's a lunatic. On the plus side, it gets better when you start ignoring her. I forgot she existed there for almost 6 months!

The interviewer seemed more interested in projecting her own view. Rather than being interested in the response and actually listening with any curiosity. Isn't the point of interviewing someone to listen to their views? It seemed she was trying to corral the interviewee to answer the question in a way that satisfies her preconceived idea of what the answer is. Personally, I find that very unskilled, inappropriate and highly unprofessional - she's talking over him much of the time - but that's just my view.

There's no doubt that fossil fuels have played a most significant role in our success, indeed one would argue, overly successful domination of this planet. But even after 30 years, since 92, and the recognition of the harm we are doing to the biosphere, we still acquire about 80-81% of our energy from coal, gas, and petrol. At current rates of use of petrol, about 100 million barrels PER DAY, we run out of all proven reserves in about 45 years...maybe sooner because consumption is increasing at 17% per decade. So we are screwed anyway even if models are incorrect in predicting crop destroying summer high temps 4-6 C higher than normal during the summer growth season. Unlikely that geneticists working on thermal reg genes in crops will be able to modify RUBISCO or other proteins to continue current yield outputs. Land use changes, rapid glacial melt, fires in Siberia, melting permafrost, and ocean changes are also catching up with us. Keep in mind, as we run out of fuel agric production will tank, because you need gas for Haber N fertilizer production. We are in overshoot! 8 billion humans, 1 billion pigs, nearly 1.5 billion cows, 50-60 billion chickens, and 1.5 billion cars, trucks, and motorcycles running trillions and trillions of miles per year! It is insane! Something rapidly must be done about it as we are using up our C budget at 1% per month. Millions will die in Europe, Asia, and Euroasia from heat and crop failure in the next year or two as the El Nino moves heat from the oceans to the atmosphere. No doubt we will see even more intense droughts, storms, storm surge, heat waves, and famine. In the coming decade or two the number of refugees will grow to 100s of millions as large parts of the earth become uninhabitable. We are headed for a WASTELAND! This is not quite yet a Scifi apocalypse but we are fast approaching it. WAKE UP ALREADY!

@@IronBhoy You can't ignore reality. In the US wastelands already exist in regions of the country where resources have dried up. Financialization and globalization along with global trade is keeping the system afloat...but not for long. Russia's war and it's reduction to world oil markets of just 3% threw the commodities market into chaos. The volatility in the minerals market since 2005-2006 is an indicator that the system is near terminal. Consider that the true heating of the atmosphere from GHGs is about 2.3 C. Global avg temps are not this high obviously because of the global dimming from aerosol particulates which provide a cooling of about 0.9 C. When China and India finally get around to cleaning up their mess temps will rise. Last year Siberian tundra and taiga (boreal forests) fires were again extensive and extreme. This fall and summer an intensive El Nino will develop. On top of this the solar cycle is finally returning to normal levels of irradiance (these past 2 solar cycles have often been described as a solar minimum yet temps on earth increased). Given we observed exceptional drought in China during the rainy season, Germany, and midwest such that the Yangtze, Rhine, and Mississippi dried up during a La Nina it's a fair bet that we will see drought in China and Europe again. The US south will probably experience monumental innundations and some severe hurricanes. We will wait and see. But be assured that oil is a nonrenewable resource. So XR and Just Stop Oil will eventually see their demands materialize. At 100 million barrels per day we will run out or at least the price will get so high econ activity is severly depressed. Just Google the price of oil a few months before the Subprime Crash in US before 08 and 09. The same econ indicators are now appearing on the horizon again. WE ARE SCREWED! ONLY 20 YEARS LEFT OF THIS INDUSTRIAL MESS BEFORE COLLAPSE. GOOD LUCK!

Our human race with current means of energy and power has been compared to a teenager at the wheel. Now no offence to todays emerging youth in general, you are the care takers of this worlds tomorrow but the meaning is our human nature is currently tipping the gung-ho scale a bit (and then some collectively, and there's a few of us these days). And as fuel to the fire, I don't expect Hartly-Brewer and others to pipe down any time soon, it's their role to pipe up. But by way of the old saying 'you've made you bed now lie in it', lets look after ourselves and with an outlook for the future. Fundamentals like good rest is what we need, physically and psychologically, we need to pipe down, get some meaning recuperation as a species and listen up and wise up, as I've heard XR speakers say.

Just a little poem about another BIG problem.
Plastic, oh plastic, so versatile and cheap,
But its impact on the Earth is nothing to keep.
From bottles to bags, from straws to lids,
The world is drowning in a sea of synthetic grids.
The landfills overflow, the oceans are clogged,
Wildlife is dying, and their habitats are fogged.
Birds with their bellies full of colorful shreds,
Fish with their gills choked with tiny plastic threads.
The planet is suffering, the air is unclean,
The waters are tainted, and the soil is obscene.
And we, humans, are not immune to the harm,
As the toxins from plastics slowly spread like a swarm.
Perhaps cancer, infertility, allergies, and disease,
The list goes on, as we continue to please,
Our desire for convenience and ease,
At the cost of the planet and our own health decrees.
But it's not too late, we can still make a change,
By reducing, reusing, and properly managing our range.
Let's join hands and take a stand,
To protect our planet and safeguard our land.
    Let's educate, inspire, and innovate,
To find sustainable solutions before it's too late.
For plastic, oh plastic, it's time to break free,
From the hold, it has on us, to let our planet breathe.
    Regenerate response

Why would you publish this on RUclips? How does this help you? To me it seems like she won every point. All Etienne had to offer were XR talking points aka the consequences of our past behaviour and how it gets worse if we don't stop. Sadly, Etienne faced someone with questions he couldn't answer, because he can't admit that an angry populous is a threat to those in positions of false and/or lawfully evil authority. Governments are full of people elected and hired by the elected to produce legislation, not to rule over debtslaves, and yet they turn into weasels when law and cultural enforcement try to hold them to account. Etienne knows this, but he's trying to manage the mob by focusing on the potential positives, which is a bias that warps his worldview. Climate change is not just a threat, it's a threat multiplier, compounding other problems. Julia should feel threatened, because the alternative is complacency. Above all, remember the precautionary principle: clever use of the scientific method may yet keep us alive for a bit longer, and doesn't require us to hope. It requires us to work through Hell and die trying, without hope, without witness, without reward (credit to Capaldi's Dr Who).
