- TalkTV's Julia Hartley-Brewer clashes with journalist and presenter Shivani Dave over the use of different pronouns.
It comes after a review said children have been let down by a lack of research and "remarkably weak" evidence on medical interventions in gender care.
The Cass Review, published on Wednesday by paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass, calls for gender services for young people to match the standards of other NHS care.
She says the "toxicity" of the debate around gender meant professionals were "afraid" to openly discuss their views.
NHS England says it has already made significant progress in making changes.
The Cass Review, which looked at gender identity services for under-18s, was commissioned by NHS England in 2020 after a sharp rise in the number of patients referred to the NHS who were questioning their gender.

You can’t “affirm” an anorexic because affirming their belief would be harmful to the individual. If you affirm that they are “fat” when they are in reality extremely poorly nourished and need to eat and drink, then they will continue to do their same behaviours. Affirming an anorexic is directly harmful.
However, being considerate and using pronouns to the best of your ability, just like trying to use someone’s preferred nickname instead of their whole legal name, is not harmful to the individual in any way.

Hormone blockers are a way to postpone a decision about surgical changes for a lot of trans or NB people so that they don’t have top surgery at 16. Sadly, someone displaying such narcissism and bad manners as a guest on Julia´s programme right at the beginning of the interview just makes one dismiss anything she proceeds to say, because she is clearly more interested in politics and promoting her own agenda than caring about the children whose care and needs are at the heart of the Cass review.
She clearly hasn´t understood the findings of the report, because she´s spouting misinformation which contradicts the findings of the Cass review, which is what she´s been invited to speak about! Also, smiling at such inappropriate places! The lack of empathy is alarming.

'They' as a singular pronoun is grammatically correct. Its use has actually been traced back to 1375 to describe an individual person of unknown gender. For example "someone left their keys here". I hope this helps :)

This. It shouldn't matter what they think their pronouns should be, they are overwhelmingly used when you're not even in the room. It's flat out rude to use he or she in someone's presence except in rare edge cases. They're precious about how they're referred to when they can't even hear it.

You can express yourself however you like- you’re still whatever biological sex you were born. And being intersex has nothing to do with trans. People sound so stupid when they use intersex as a way to validate trans etc. Completely not even related…
