Nooo :( I'm from a country where there is no dark skinned minority or majority.. And I always look at someone with a darker complexion with awe.. Its so beautiful! So the bullies always find a way to shame anyone into feeling not pretty.
@Altoid Bazingá Sure, I live in Prague for 21 years, also I have lived in the Netherlands for a year, and the "minority" there is like a triple size majority in Prague. The roma and the Vietnamese is a big minority true enough, but from what I know there is no discrimination to the extreme of skin bleaching. Actually there is no section for people of colour in any drug store at all. There is a racial discrimination towards roma for sure, but it exist, mainly because of the social position/social integration of roma and not because of the colour of the skin. But that is an issue for another day.
@Altoid Bazingá What is your experience with products for people of colour in CZ? And the skin bleaching products? I would like educate my self on the topic.
Same with me, here everybody tells me that i’m very pale and that i should put at least blush or use some fake tan They ask me if i’m sick or something everytime and it’s so annoying because i have to tell them “no, i’m not sick, my skin colour is just like this” and then they continue asking “are you sure?” It’s like, yeah bro, i’m sure, i know how my skins looks like, i see myself in the mirror every morning, so please stop asking me dumb questions” I’m a very pale girl with very black hair, so it contrasts more (Sorry, my first lenguage isn’t english, i tried to explain it the best i could).
At 10:06, I see a BEAUTIFUL BROWN-SKINNED WOMAN. She looks sooooo much younger in her natural skin, also. It saddens me to see that darker toned Asians and Blacks feel they need to do this; and even more saddened by the World that enforces it. 😢😢 #YouAreBeautifulInYourSunKissedSkin

I don’t understand why we Africans tend to concentrate on the negative part of growth... these girls are talking about skin bleaching and all of you are talking trash about hair! So what would happen if they are bleaching and talking about accepting African hairstyles and hair??? The growth we Africans need is personal! All we see are the bad in every good! 🤦♀️ What happened to constructive criticism and even suggestions????
Maryam but they are posing as moral apostles while making fun of these girls. and we get the ubiquitous, light want to be dark and vice versa. I guarantee you that 99% of the folk giving advice while sitting on their ivory tower, these people would not give dark skinned ladies the time of the day . they know it , I know it . so I am not even here trying to read that basic drivel.
Lechiffresix six I don’t think they are trying to be moral apostles. They are just relaying their experience and that of others who are bold enough to let the world know. The message to me is more important than their personality!
I am light-skinned and I love tanning to get darker. The pressure from media and advertising is tremendous and relentless! The focus is to diminish our self-esteem so that we spend our money to achieve the unachievable! Nothing you buy in the store can help a person to love themselves! You girls and the other women featured in the film are beautiful. God made us all to be unique. Embrace your color, hair, physical characteristics. Love yourself.
It’s such a funny world, usually people with dark skin want to lighten it and usually people with white skin want to darken it. Just be happy no matter how dark or light you are. ❤️
Thank you so much for posting this. I think for someone who used skin lightening creams for so long Arlene healed remarkably well. I totally understand how dark skinned people end up succumbing to the use of skin lightening products. My mom was the only dark skinned person in a household of light skinned people and endured much school bullying, luckily her family made her feel supported, my gran specifically prohibited the use of skin lighteners (this was back in the 60's) and educated her about their dangers. Fast forward some 20 odd years later, I experienced the same problem and my mom was in a great position to prepare me for the fight ahead.
I’m a light skin African woman and from late twenties to late thirties all I wanted was to be dark skinned woman. I’m learning to love my skin from acceptance and appreciation of how I’m born but I’ll never get over the obsession of being dark skinned. Dark skinned women are so blessed with melanin, I wish all of them knew this.
I love my extremely dark skin never thought of changing nothing about it...love the skin your in ...I definitely like the fact no one can see me in the dark original camouflage
It's crazy how pple... especially Africans believe that white is beautiful. It's so engraved into our mind that the lighter our skin the more beautiful we are while in the meantime white pple are paying so much money to get a tan and look less white. We tend to forget that we Africans don't have to worry about skin cancer, we don't have to worry about the sunlight burning our skin. We are so lucky but unfortunately we take it for granted.
Missy MBH Common misconception. While we black people do have more protection from UV rays our skin isn't invincible. Black people can still get skin cancer. EVERYONE should be using sunblock. Just sayin.
It’s not necessarily that we believe “white is beautiful” it’s the fact that society has made us believe that being dark is ugly. We just try to fit in with society smh.
My mom a Korean Japanese went through this even though her skin was fairly light. Please don’t bleach or tan your Skin you are beautiful and you are unique
This video makes me sad. We as black people are changing how God created us to be. I honestly look at our black brothers and sisters of all skin tones simply as great and powerful people. Black denotes power believe it or not. I see it as a privilege to be black. I wouldn't trade it for any other race.
Beautiful womans! tnks for educating us about this issue. I can't relate personaly but this made me much more empathetic. I hope the video helps womans and girls to be confident and show the society how much damage the racism still causes. I'm so sorry
+Polaroid Android Jeff Actually it has happened to me and when I started praying a lot many years ago the spirit of competition and selfishness and worrying about what other people think started to leave me slowly.... I had to consciously block out certain things that was being said to me and I watched other people Master it too...when I started to realize what God thought mattered.. it's almost like God caught me in time and it was a blessing because I have one child that's light and I have one child that's dark and I made sure I did not put any of my insecurities on them. a lot of parents and family members have a lot of control over their children and put all kind of things in their head until this day I am glad I trained my children or should I say taught my children to not let people live in their head and if they happen to let people live in their head hey that's how it is... but I consciously made sure I did not pass that curse on to them..I am so glad that I begged God to get bad thoughts out of my head so yes I did experience it but it still amazes me.... just like it still amazes me when people act shocked that boys get molested just as much as girls.... just like I'm amazed that people know how the Illuminati is and I'm amazed they still join. I use the word amazed not in a negative way but I'm just kicking it on the real it's not about people agreeing with me or not agreeing with me... but I know the work that I have to do within myself but I couldn't do it alone and I am glad that I am around people that are insecure but still consciously work to not have people not live in their head and this is not a put-down to anybody that let people live in their head... but I'm still amazed it ain't no beef I'm just kicking how I feel
+Siobhan Fogarty well said...... when I speak on thoughts in your head... you are right you can't get rid of every thought but when you replace a sick thought with truth eventually you win... no matter what the situation is you have people who Focus just like you said focus on certain things and they make it their reality and there's so many other things that they overlook.. light dog short all these people still get cheated on these people don't have the golden ticket but when we tell ourselves that these people lives are a hundred percent better because of whatever we think we are missing I'm sorry I had to replace those thoughts because I saw the reality and it wasn't true... not a hundred percent true certain doors may be opened to certain people but the thing that they are chasing usually is something crazy or superficial I had to stop suffering from the spirit of competition and me and my friends worked on that for a while... sometimes we learn that Spirit from when we are young however I had to work on that we purposely worked on that and I saw a difference. my son is 20 now but he was bullied by teachers I had to get schools phased out teachers in trouble cops bothered him as he got older different things he had going on with him but I always told him no matter how you look somebody is going to love you and no matter how you look somebody is going to hate you and no matter how you look somebody is going to lie to you and no matter how you look somebody will tell you the truth.... your character will outlive you
Thank you ladies for stepping out of your comfort zone and confess your insecurities about your skin complexion. You are brave and so so beautiful and I am so grateful for you sharing this. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💙💙💙💙
Both the ladies who are at the beginning of this doc have the most beautiful complexions. Not just in skin color but the quality of the texture. Smooth and plush, with a natural glow. That's what beautiful skin looks like. I didn't grow up with bleaching cremes being the norm. I remember the AMBI bleaching products but I remember them more for evening your complexion.
When i was younger i used ambi the all black soap one for my face because i was getting lots of bumps in my face but i never was bleaching when you said that i didnt know that in the hair store.
Western companies like Uniliver campaign against racism in their own continent but those same companies sell skin whitening products like Fair and Lovely in other continents. Pure Hypocracy.
I’m an African-American woman. Colorism and skin bleaching is a big issue. Ultimately, you have to love yourself and celebrate how you were created. I love my dark skin and I love being black. I hate that our beautiful sisters in this documentary experienced this. But, I’m glad they’re using their experience to bring awareness to this disgusting issue. Sending you love from the U.S. ❤️
White people think anyone that is not white is "dark" when in most cases within every non-white ethnic group there is a hierarchy of what is considered dark and what is considered light or medium complected. In the black community dark skin is Lupita Nyong'o complexion. If you have no idea who she is, google her. The video should have mentioned that this issue is specifically in relation to the black community and how dark skin is viewed. This video is NOT about what white people project onto those who are not white. A lot of these dark skin women don't feel good enough even around their own people and that is what leads them to bleach their skin. Brown skin is considered the "safe black" shade and light skin is what blacks seem to praise while dark skin is unfortunately viewed in a negative lite. It's even worse in Asia, especially the Philippines where they are being denied jobs if they look anything but white. In the Caribbean and Africa, those with dark skin are not being denied jobs, it is more of a social issue, another thing that they failed to mention in this video.
Your first statement...so, white people ALL think one way when there is a variety of skin colors...thank you for the racial profile and for the record, THIS white person sees all the colors and adores them all. I look at lovely dark skin and the colors of clothing it is flattered by and the ethnic hair and the gorgeous styles it can carry and feel nothing but admiration. So, please don't say there are all kinds of people in the non-white category but just one kind in the white. Not fair.
Well I have two sisters who are naturally fair in the African sense as I'm a Nigerian. It's sometimes hard comparing yourselves to your fair sisters when wherever you go they'll always notice the fair person first. Although I'm confident about my skin tone and strongly against bleaching, it sometimes gets to me when people especially my younger brother teases me about how dark I am from my siblings, but I do Thank God and my relatives especially aunts for my self taught confidence cos they always say I'm the prettiest of all my sisters even if sometimes when I was much younger I didn't use to believe them. But over the years, it has now become a foundation for my confidence, especially when people compliment how cute I look with an innocent baby face..
I have always wanted to be tan because the people around me made fun of me for my very pale complexion. But I have learned a lot from my experiences. We all need to learn to love ourselves for who we are, not who others want us to be. It’s very hard to learn how to love yourself, but self love is something that is so important. Just be who you are because you are the most beautiful version of yourself 💕
Michael rushoki so what if someone has fucked up natural features. I actually think ugly is combined bad features, and I think people with naturally bad features can do surgery to correct it
I'm sorry we still have a world where people can't just be happy in their own skin. Whether skin or hair or weight ...it's never ending . I found these women beautiful....
dark skinned people! you are beautiful! i'm a pale ass white girl and i have adored dark skin ever since i was a little girl. i've aaalways found it SO beautiful.
but i guess everybody always want what they don't have. people with straight hair curl their hair. people with curly hair straighten their hair. people with light skin want darker skin, and people with dark skin want lighter skin. so i understand. but like... this is still some next level shit, people shouldn't have to do this out of feeling pressured :( makes me so sad.
When I was 5 I always thought that black people were so beautiful I thought of them as the most beautiful people in the world (I’m Asian) I loved tiana (the Disney princess) soooo much I think I thought about black people like that because I didn’t see many of them in my school in the uk and I just thought the color of their skin was so unique and beautiful I had a classmate who was black and I always told my parents how beautiful she was I think it’s because I thought that having white skin was so common it was boring and having black skin just stood out
When I was younger, I so desperately wanted to be pale. It took a lot of years for me to realize that 1) it wasn't going to happen and 2) that my skin is beautiful. I'm not even that dark (I'm olive at most), but my grandmother always told me how dark I was and how I should be careful about getting tanned. Now I don't get enough vitamin D!
This video was definitely needed And I applaud 👏🏽these beautiful young women and brave young ppl for educating the youth about loving themselves and the harmful effects of these devious creams
Love yourself. I love myself. I love my dark chocolate skin. I am 48 years old. People say I look so young. That makes me love myself more. I say Thank you God.
Problem is there’s not much representation only white and fair hair. My granddaughter was radically abused at her school at the age of 4, she’s 7 now and hates having black skin and her curly hair. As a family we are working with her . The bully who did this is only a child herself not her fault but her life continues as normal.
I'm really pale and people comment on that too. I've been told I'd be prettier with a tan and asked if I ever go out in the sun, etc. It's never enough for people and whatever you do the WHOLE world won't be satisfied. So the key to happiness is to be satisfied with yourself and surround yourself with people who appreciate you for you. Live life and spend it being thankful and surrounded by positive energy and love. Don't isolate yourself for what rude, inconsiderate people say. They obviously have a problem with themselves. Yes even if it's like +30 people, that's still not a lot since there's 7.5 billion people on the planet. Sometimes our lives seem huge but really they're small, we don't know so much of the world. So my point is, hang in there!
I stopped wearing makeup for many reasons...one was because I started to develop an unhealthy view of my skin. I'm quite dark but have never had any issues with my skin but after prolonged use, i started to feel like my skin was terrible and that i needed to lighten it to match the shades that are easily available (crazy, i know). I even went as far as looking up lightening treatments and called several cosmetic clincs to book consultations...best decision i've made regarding beauty is to stop with the makeup
Being so pale that I’m basically transparent I’ve always thought girls with dark skin had such beautiful complexions. (Without make up you can clearly see my insane dark circles and any acne I have is just so obvious against the mayo lol) It makes me so sad that these beautiful people have been tricked into thinking being dark is ugly. It just ain’t true
I've thought a bit about using the lightening product, but was afraid of something happening to my skin. This video just helped me remove the thoughts of using the product completely. Thank you Lord
My mom bought my first skin bleaching cream. She said she bought it as a way to lighten my knees and elbows that were darker than the rest of me but before you know it I was using it on all of my arms and legs
My mother is Gipsy. She has light skin but whole her life she was wearing fondation that is way to light for her. She has beautiful medium skin tone, while I'm pale as ghost and she keeps saying how beautful my skin tone is. She was a judge for 40 years, she is highly educated woman and she acts like this. Thank god she never used bleaching creams. So I can understand this even though I personally never had the struggle. It makes me so sad.
Black people bleaching, white people tanning, perms, straightening of hair, we always tend to be unhappy with whatever we get naturally, is that "effort" a reason in itself, just a way to prove to society we're not lazy by showing that we invest time and money changing our appearance? We're really funny. It's always nice to feel good about ourselves and we should do what makes us happy, but it's confusing why our brains send us towards some modifications that don't make us better (thinner, stronger looking, having a nicer body shape etc) but just different, at a possible cost of having reaction to substances, plus all the time and effort just to change a red hair to blonde, for example. It's nice, it's fun, it can be a way to break with the boredom of life, but why do we feel we "have to" sometimes? Peer pressure? 😟
My parents are always bitching I should suntan more cause I am too pale. Mom is ginger and looks tan because of an explosion of freckles, what do you expect from me, parents??? I don't wanna age my skiiin.
Tanning happens naturally, bleaching doesn't. White people don't feel the same pressure nor do they feel disgust by their skin complexion. You can't compare them.
@@alex-np6cj That was not the point of my comment. Sorry if, for not being racist, I don't find something silly as the color of someone's skin can make them "disgusting", the idea that someone might feel that way about someone is sickening.
Sometimes when I see myself in the mirror,I see a HERO! I've been called "swart patata"(black potato) from primary to highschool and now I'm in college and I haven't even DREAMT of bleaching! I'm stubborn like that😁
Every black girl out there should know that her skin is perfect and her natural hair is perfect as well. I am white but I was raised in a country where, strangely, there is zero prejudice about natural black hair (while of course racism and colorism are present). And everyone here thinks it's cool af, not at all a sign of "untidiness" like I understand it's perceived in the US. I am gonna do everything in my power to make things change so that no black girl will ever feel pressured to lighten her skin or hate her hair again.
@bye girl of course I include in my wish every person on the planet who has a dark skin color, not just African people. Colorism in India is a travesty!! Happens in many Arab countries as well.
@bye girl your comments are typical of someone who only wants to see the bad in others...i made a comment supporting black girls, did I get the wording wrong? Yes, this doesn't mean I dont support all races. Jesus christ.
Fantastic and very informative video. Right into investigation and confrontation. Great job gals! Black queens! We have beauty in each of us. We must look beneath the surface and search the heart.
Melanin skin is seriously the most beautiful complexion ever. It makes me so sad to know that there are many people who don’t feel comfortable in their own skin. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but black is so, so beautiful.
People in all cultures have their beauty standards no matter how stupid they are, but what I don’t understand is why does it have to be SKIN color? There are so many other ways to change the way you look that won’t cause permanent damage. Why do people try and make SKIN color a beauty standard? Growing up when my friends saw how pale I was when I wore shorts they made fun of me and I never truly understood it. Skins just skin.
Really like this video. And this warning about bleaching products should be spread all over the world. I live in Panama and I think I have seen those kind of dangerous creams. Government should be more involved in this topic, because this is a health issue.
I used that skin lightning cream by accident when I was 15, trying to get rid of acne blemishes, boy that stuff had my skin so light. I would've never used it if I knew what it was.
I didn’t really bleaching was still a thing because I live America and I’m not saying nobody does it here but I is definitely not common and you can’t even find it in stores so it really amazed me that people actually bleach their skin.

@@MizzGabrielle1987 Also Gabrielle, you may want to do some research on non-black people trying to get kinky hair as there are THOUSANDS of tutorials on how to make white hair into afros with millions of views just here on RUclips. Nooo :( I'm from a country where there is no dark skinned minority or majority.. And I always look at someone with a darker complexion with awe.. Its so beautiful!
And as a matter of fact, in elementary school I was made fun of because I was too white.. They called me a vampire and teased me..
So the bullies always find a way to shame anyone into feeling not pretty.

Sure, I live in Prague for 21 years, also I have lived in the Netherlands for a year, and the "minority" there is like a triple size majority in Prague.
Same with me, here everybody tells me that i’m very pale and that i should put at least blush or use some fake tan
They ask me if i’m sick or something everytime and it’s so annoying because i have to tell them “no, i’m not sick, my skin colour is just like this” and then they continue asking “are you sure?” It’s like, yeah bro, i’m sure, i know how my skins looks like, i see myself in the mirror every morning, so please stop asking me dumb questions”
I’m a very pale girl with very black hair, so it contrasts more
(Sorry, my first lenguage isn’t english, i tried to explain it the best i could).
Isa so you're like the beautiful snowhite.
Uhhh its black.
Her skintone is goldish light shade of black. Not brown.

Nooo, Why?!? Dark is sooo gorgeous! ❤😊
you know why
I don’t understand why we Africans tend to concentrate on the negative part of growth... these girls are talking about skin bleaching and all of you are talking trash about hair! So what would happen if they are bleaching and talking about accepting African hairstyles and hair???
The growth we Africans need is personal!
All we see are the bad in every good! 🤦♀️
What happened to constructive criticism and even suggestions????
Maryam but they are posing as moral apostles while making fun of these girls. and we get the ubiquitous, light want to be dark and vice versa.
Absolutely 💯
This has nothing to do with media or culture. The only thing propelled by media is pro-blackness

I’m so happy these women learned to love their skin and opened up about the dangers of skin bleaching and the problem with colorism.
Me to I want to be light skinned is the obsession so I’ll keep bleaching my skin 😂😂😂😂
The thing is black people perpetuate this which doesn’t help. We need to stop the infighting! So Glad things are changing.
faith umuk Yeah, unfortunately.
Black Men i know don't prefer light skinned women unless they are uncultured. Mostly it's the actual physical features
@faith umuk black women do too. Its 50 50
I love my extremely dark skin never thought of changing nothing about it...love the skin your in ...I definitely like the fact no one can see me in the dark original camouflage
Just sayin.
@ngklnkljn well none the less they are not contempt with their complexion either...just saying
Absolutely correct.
I'm black for a white chick naturally it's the Maori in me, I love my melinon skin I would never go to a tan bed but I love my natural ⛅.
Chocolate skin is so beautiful! ❤️👸🏾
This video makes me sad. We as black people are changing how God created us to be. I honestly look at our black brothers and sisters of all skin tones simply as great and powerful people. Black denotes power believe it or not. I see it as a privilege to be black. I wouldn't trade it for any other race.

I'm still amazed by how people allow other people thoughts to live in their head
global princess I know you must be young to have made this comment you really need to look into history love
I'm 47...and still amazed.
It happens quite easily actually, just because it's not something you've experienced doesn't mean you have to be ignorant
+Siobhan Fogarty well said...... when I speak on thoughts in your head... you are right you can't get rid of every thought but when you replace a sick thought with truth eventually you win... no matter what the situation is you have people who Focus just like you said focus on certain things and they make it their reality and there's so many other things that they overlook.. light dog short all these people still get cheated on these people don't have the golden ticket but when we tell ourselves that these people lives are a hundred percent better because of whatever we think we are missing I'm sorry I had to replace those thoughts because I saw the reality and it wasn't true... not a hundred percent true certain doors may be opened to certain people but the thing that they are chasing usually is something crazy or superficial I had to stop suffering from the spirit of competition and me and my friends worked on that for a while... sometimes we learn that Spirit from when we are young however I had to work on that we purposely worked on that and I saw a difference. my son is 20 now but he was bullied by teachers I had to get schools phased out teachers in trouble cops bothered him as he got older different things he had going on with him but I always told him no matter how you look somebody is going to love you and no matter how you look somebody is going to hate you and no matter how you look somebody is going to lie to you and no matter how you look somebody will tell you the truth.... your character will outlive you
Watching this brings tears to my eyes... I was young when my aunt gave me my first bleaching cream... my mom soon followed after and I refused
You are pretty, good for you for being strong!

This makes me so sad that they felt this way. You are BEAUTIFUL! your skin is BEAUTIFUL.
All these ladies are beautiful this is crazy.
I find dark skin beautiful. All colours are beautiful.❤❤💎
Sara Shaini and you are beautiful too
I’m an African-American woman.

Not fair.

Two Beautiful young women!!! I’m so you two are making awareness on skin bleaching
Self-hate
Nobuhle Khumalo I love it
I think it has to do with self esteem issues obviously. Most men I know concentrate on actual physical features not the actual color as per say
Michael rushoki so what if someone has fucked up natural features. I actually think ugly is combined bad features, and I think people with naturally bad features can do surgery to correct it
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as the saying goes
Blame society too that made European that standard of beauty which brainwashes vulnerable people
I'm sorry we still have a world where people can't just be happy in their own skin.
I think girls of color look so damn good in every bright color. Like neon yellows 😍 And those facial features 😍
Dark skin is so beautiful ❤️ please don’t change yourself
When I was 5 I always thought that black people were so beautiful I thought of them as the most beautiful people in the world (I’m Asian) I loved tiana (the Disney princess) soooo much I think I thought about black people like that because I didn’t see many of them in my school in the uk and I just thought the color of their skin was so unique and beautiful I had a classmate who was black and I always told my parents how beautiful she was
I think it’s because I thought that having white skin was so common it was boring and having black skin just stood out
Whatever you have is a privilege, even privilege to get born to this wonderful world.

Thoses girls are so brave to share their experience with us

I stopped wearing makeup for many reasons...one was because I started to develop an unhealthy view of my skin. I'm quite dark but have never had any issues with my skin but after prolonged use, i started to feel like my skin was terrible and that i needed to lighten it to match the shades that are easily available (crazy, i know). I even went as far as looking up lightening treatments and called several cosmetic clincs to book consultations...best decision i've made regarding beauty is to stop with the makeup
Im darkskined and I've never had an issue with my skin tone. Not all darkskin girls have low self esteem. Its sad to see some of these stories.

I hope this stops. Your beautiful the way you are. No one needs to change their skin for any reason.
These young ladies are beautiful on their own accord!
i love what she said "we should feel privileged to be born the way we are"
My mom bought my first skin bleaching cream. She said she bought it as a way to lighten my knees and elbows that were darker than the rest of me but before you know it I was using it on all of my arms and legs
Me too my neck u to be so dark I hated it so I bleach it I’m happy now still do I don’t see a problem

This is fascinating and eye opening!

@bye girl Way to see ill intent where there was none pal :°°°°D

These girls are bloody stunning! Literally model level gorgeous, I just really wish they could see it 😢
I used that skin lightning cream by accident when I was 15, trying to get rid of acne blemishes, boy that stuff had my skin so light. I would've never used it if I knew what it was.
"Why would I date someone I can't see in the dark" lol come on ,no matter how light you are you

I didn’t really bleaching was still a thing because I live America and I’m not saying nobody does it here but I is definitely not common and you can’t even find it in stores so it really amazed me that people actually bleach their skin.
Light skin is beautiful, but if you are not naturally light, then love your skin color. 💞
