It's really interesting how this documentary showed men who are skin bleaching. In my experience I've only heard of women skin bleaching. It's good that this documentary highlighted the fact that this issue affects both genders.
@Degu405 yeah the social media influence and lack of confidence are probably the #1 reasons why. also the light brown skinned celebs are overrepresented in the media while the very dark skin tones dont get much presentation unfortunately maybe thats why too. i also noticed the ppl who make judgemental comments are the most insecure or unhappy w/ themselves too.
The two doctors/sisters have amazing skin. It's heartbreaking that so many women use bleaching creams out of a feeling of social pressure to be lighter and harming their skin permanently in the process 😢
I'm of Sierra Leonean background. My dad did this a few years ago. My mum has mixed race heritage (Sierra Leonean with Chinese, Vietnamese and Finnish heritage), so her and my sisters are naturally lighter in complexion. I'm the only dark skin in my immediate family, and proud! As I've gotten older, I had to learn to love my dark skin. If you don't love yourself, how the hell are you meant to love those around you?
Wow, Finnish too? Just curious how did Finland get 'thrown into the mix'? (I'm a pale Finnish gal and trying to protect my skin from sunburn in the summer... thank God, tanning no longer is a big trend here)

Some Asian has white/ light skin but I, myself, has colored one, brown or whatever, am so proud of having it 👍🏻 especially when I visited some European countries. They are amazed by my skin, hair color, etc. Even there are some who tried to touch to feel the smooth healthy skin. Look, no matter what color your skin is, the most important thing is it has a healthy one. And be proud of how you are. Xx
Wanting to be light is a thing for many ethnicity. I'm asian and if you're not light skin you're not pretty. Many people have died from wanting to be light skin. They used external products to lighten their skin and they have also ingested or injected things into their body. They think its worth it if they can be lighter. They view light skin with being beautiful and being righ whereas if you're dark you're ugly and poor. I'm fine with my skin color. I live in the US and I've had many strangers come up to me to tell me how much they love my skin color, whereas i would never have been told that in asia.
There are people with dark skin and black that have inferiority complexes men and women and they hate people of all Races that are pretty including if they are black black but are cute like Meghan thee stallion I met someone that is a black womans ideal at least she’s choosing a black woman but she doesn’t find herself attractive but she finds Megan to be . So don’t start you may be confident but that inferiority complex runs deep
People with dark skin want lighter skin, those with light skin want darker tones. The beauty industry supports both groups with all sort of crazy products.
this is SO TRUE. I am very light skinned myself (German and Scottish decent) and I live in the southeastern USA. I have had people tell me that I need to get a tan on several occasions...like strangers just shouting it at me. it's hurtful and mean. people need to just accept others the way they were made. all skintones are beautiful!

It took me a long time to be okay with my skin. I can relate to wanting to change it and this video shows how so many are insecure about skin tone regardless of the color.
There is a difference. The people who look like you have a barbaric history with most of the world, and they’re the perpetrators. The victor sets the standard. You may have been teased by other people who look like you, but you wouldn’t be discriminated by any societal structure or system for having pale skin, anywhere in the world.

Africans must using colonialism as excuse for all of the ills of society. This lady is from a country with an almost entire black demographic. This craze happens far more often in majority black countries than it does in countries in which black people only make up a small percentage of the population. Perhaps we need to look to another root cause.
Just as they tell American blacks they cannot blame everything on racism, Africans can’t blame everything on colonialism. At some point in time you have to take responsibility for your own hearts and minds. This is mainly occurring in majority black countries. It is nowhere near as prolific in countries where black is the minority.
Well, it is the black folk that are upholding this nonsense. White folk aren’t running around berating people for their dark skin - it is black people who are doing that.
As a light skinned African American of West African descent, the brown to midnight complexion ARE SO BEAUTIFUL! The most stunning men and women have dark skin. Come on, you people. Stop being foolish kai

I am a european 73 year old woman, living in South Africa. I can only say: Ladies look after your natural skin, regardless how light or dark it is. When I compare the texture of any brown skin, being so smooth, plump and soft, to a white skin, your skin wins. Our white skin is as soft like yours, only in children. We age quicker, our skin wrinkles earlier. We women are crazy, brown girls want to have a lighter skin, white girls are tanning like crazy to get darker. If you could see my body today, after all those hours tanning, you would be shocked. I have scales like a lizard, memories of frying in the sun. Accept the colour you are, regardless what the fashion dictates.
Exactly. I've never tanned or used makeup, except for some moisturiser since my 40s. I'm white European and I've never looked like a porcelain doll. I don't know any white people who look like that and natural skin is all kinds of colours, but it should be healthy.
its the higher melanin that protects. BUT your first problem is your a European in Africa. Your skin wasn't created for that much sun exposure. white skin ages very well when not exposed to the sun .
@@thefelipevaldes age and health are visual. If you look at Malaysia and Indonesia, these creams are for sale to anyone who can afford them, but most people can't. Despite what people say here on social media platforms, in real life they treat people differently. People choose to bleach knowing very well how it will turnout because of childhood trauma. Self hate is no joke 😢.

Don't blame colonisation. If you can't love your own natural skin then the problem is with you or your insecurity.
Just as they tell American blacks they cannot blame everything on racism, Africans can’t blame everything on colonialism. At some point in time you have to take responsibility for your own hearts and minds. This is mainly occurring in majority black countries. It is nowhere near as prolific in countries where black is the minority.
