YES, we're all saddened anytime OUR game developer takes a hit, and anyone affected by a lay off. They didn't deserve it, but cuts needed to be made. The private spending habits of the CEO has nothing to do with a publicly traded company. Pete very likely negotiated his deal back in 2021 that went with the sale of Bungie to Sony. He may be an at-will employee, or cut a 3-5 year deal at a negotiated salary (with performance bonuses). SONY is making these layoff decisions based on REVENUE or projected REVENUE. Why does everyone doubt the future of Bungie? It's nonsense. There will be changes but a GAME or 2-GAME studio with 800+ employees is jaw droppingly big. A great game too!

I gotta admit, it’s really funny watching Destiny players all collectively realize that our game is just like 90% of all other live service games out there reaching the end of their lifecycles and showing off that their devs don’t actually care about anything but profits. It’s probably for the best that Destiny dies. Half the internet has a hate boner for the franchise. The other 49% has no idea what Destiny is, and the remaining 1% are people who actually play it. That being said, Destiny isn’t on a decline because the game itself is in a bad state. It’s because the story is over. The 10 year old Light and Dark saga ended on a good note. Lots of people are content so they’re done playing Destiny. Anything left now is just in-world filler content for people that like the gameplay. It’s just another live service battlepass game that: • Costs a fortune for all the DLC (wherein lies probably 60% of the games content nowadays). • Is extremely overwhelming to new players (confusing lore, single-player hostile, bad progression system) • And has terrible PvP game mode balancing (one of the best repeatable ways to keep players engaged in the game. Crucible is a cesspool and Gambit is pretty much dead in the water. PvE power fantasy is good but gets old when 1 person can slaughter an entire army’s worth of enemies every 5 seconds and there’s 3 people doing it at the same time).

While I do agree there is some concern, it is important to note that - by the time Marathon releases - Bungie most likely won't have a free hand anymore. Sony already announced they will be working on a company restructuring for Bungie and that usually means changes for the upper departments as well. Whether they replace the CEO and his executives is yet to be seen, tho. And this matters, because Sony clearly have more focus on Destiny 2, than on Marathon. So I highly doubt they would just let Bungie abandon ship, especially when D2 is their main source of income and so far no one really cares about Marathon...
They haven't cared for years. They get by because this game is played by a bunch of addicts who can't put it down for a day. I jumped off during Light fall, Final Shape drew me in again but that got old 2 weeks in. Same pathfinder rewards over and over again, exotic class items are absolutely trash, that's if you can get it in the first place, same seasonal missions over and over (talk to this person, do this mission, go back to this person, talk to that person, do mission, repeat for a year...... If that doesn't tell you they don't care, along with laying off 220 staff responsible for making the most liked DLC of the last 10 years, then I really don't know what they have to do to convince you they don't give a sh*t 😂😂😂 Honestly, just let go, find another game

Don’t get me wrong, into the light was great, but it was mainly something to keep folk entertained until Final Shape released. The big expansions are what get people to come back every year.

They didn't fire 200+ employees just because - they laid them off because their roles were simply no longer needed and their employement had a toll on the budget. The employees in question already had hardly any imput into the game's development - this would have happend regardless of how the company was doing. Like heck, from what I read, they had 18+ community managers, with only like half really being active - the rest were literally pointless.

A d3, while can merit some positive changes, can also have negative effects as it can create problems in the game by just simply existing (like how bungie now has 2 other games to recycle content from, or how certain changes can negatively divide the community, and etc.) Also, most of the examples you have given have either been completely reversed or changed in some way or are completely false news. Sunsetting is dead, and has been for a long time. Bungie has toned down their content vaulting SIGNIFICANTLY with them cancelling dlc vaulting. They also won't be charging 100$ twice a year. As a matter of fact, we are literally getting 2 free shadow keep size "expansions" each year (although the quality of the content is still left to be seen).
