TRIVIA TIME... Why is there so much green in hospitals... from walls, furnishings, scrubs, etc.? Before WWI, white (for purity & cleanliness) was the primary color used in hospitals. However, surgeon Dr. Harry Sherman (St. Luke's in San Francisco) was doing a ton of surgeries and found the contrast of blood with the white in surgical rooms too glaring and made it hard to visualize minute anatomical details. He did research into color theory and decided on "spinach green" as the best color. He then convinced his hospital to outfit one of the surgical rooms entirely in that color... the walls, surgical drapes, scrubs, etc. It worked so well it quickly spread to other hospitals around the country. At about time a lot of hospitals were being built with the primary purpose of dealing with mass casualties and little thought to the human element. East coast Architect William Ludlow advocated using more green in these hospitals so as to make them more calming and to invoke nature, healing, growth, etc. That spread too.
I got some really bad medical news today. It's nice so nice to have a James video to come back to in the evening to calm me down before I sleep. I know that it will be fun and silly and lighthearted, and whatever problems your sims are having, or the build is being difficult, it isn't actually bad and takes my mind off whatever's happening in real life. Thank you.
I hope you are okay and are able to treat whatever is ailing you. Sims is a nice escape from reality sometimes. I had a hysterectomy 10 days ago so being able to play during my recovery has been a blessing
There are often treadmills in real hospitals for stress tests, which help to see how the heart functions under stress, so they make sense in terms of making the hospital realistic. Awesome build!
For the roof, a lot of flat buildings have gravel on the roof for water drainage. The gravel allows for the water to drain but makes it so nothing solid blocks the drain so no need to go up and clean off. The hospital my mom worked at and the store that i used to work at both had gravel on the roof.
I love this build. I have the realistic child birth mod and my SIM is there for a day or two having a baby. She and her partner need showers sometimes. She has to go for walks and having multiple doors in and out of the hospital is great. They always have to eat since they are there so long. Also with the gym all I would have to do is add a few birthing balls and I'm set. The partner is forever stinky, hungry and tired so this hospital will work out great. Thank you for all of your great builds.
I love that mod, I made a delivery suite in my hospital with a couch so her partner can nap. Also added a functional kitchen to the cafeteria so they can make food.
@@sneakydeekie5472 Pandasama Realistic Birth is the Mod, you can choose to have your baby at home in a birthing tub or on the bed. A midwife comes to your house. Showers are actually super realistic! - Especially in Maternity wards 😉😄 I spent a solid hour or two or labour in the shower, and first thing I did after giving birth and snuggling baby etc - was go into the bathroom attached to the delivery room, and take another shower haha. Really cool build James! I really love the entrance and I like the flooring & wall handrails you used - that all felt very true to life!
love that you centralized all the gameplay objects because the old build was such a hassle walking to each of the objects to complete tasks! I genuinely think you lose most of the work time to walking around. It also doesn't help that only like, 3 or 4 doctors/nurses spawn each time which makes the hospital feel so empty, might have to get a mod for myself to change that! 😂
Having to walk across half the building to wash your hands is probably the most egregious example of time wasted walking, since real-life hospitals and medical clinics tend to average around one sink _per room_ rather than just one or two in the whole clinic.
I live in a small town and honestly this is bigger than our hospital. Ours has three floors but its in a pretty narrow area between two streets, so this definitely feels big enough to me. Once I have get to work I'll likely use this hospital more than the one thats in the game, it just seems more functional and certainly brighter.
This hospital looks so much better, the long hallway to the operation room has always made me feel feel stressed for some reason when watching let's plays..!

In most of the hospitals I’ve worked in (in the US) showers are quite common in the bathrooms. In the patient room bathrooms and the shared E.R. bathroom. So the showers are actually on point!
I really really like this hospital. I've been waiting for someone to build a new one that was more functional. I think you dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's on this one! I would have liked to see a game table with puzzles in the waiting room for the little ones who may be there with their parents. PLSSSS do a full set of these! I would loveeee to see u make a science lab & do an updated (all packs?) Version of the police station!! I *LIVE* for ur build videos!! U made such a great hospital!
As a physician I am laughing at the fact that as a lower level you have to wash your hands more than as a higher level - bc IRL doctors who have been at it longer / doctors compared to nurses often are found to wash their hands less x.x Also, the reason we have showers in hospitals IRL is because many of us stay overnight/for 24 hr shifts on call which sometimes necessitates a shower/bed to sleep in. Esp if something gross happens.
I'm a doctor and there's showers for patients and staff, gyms for physios. Some hospital have gyms for staff too. Irl the surgery rooms are generally much larger. Watching your video is inspiring to go build a sims hospital now
Wow that layout is almost identical to the way I build mine. 😄 Didn't restrict myself one pack though because I just build it for myself. If you think about it, having showers and even beds make sense in a Hospital with doctors and nurses often making long shifts.
James! Thank you! I am currently working on my teen plum gen. and I need a new hospital build for her to work her career on. I don't have to search all over the gallery anymore. What a perfect timing!
The green floored corridor with the grey edging looks a lot like every NHS hospital wing that was built in the 90s - they all have the same high-grip, easy-clean flooring, with the two-colour design to liven things up!
I love the base/limited pack builds because they're easy to renovate as you like. You always have a base to work with which is the most annoying part to create. All I have to do is decorate how I like it😋
Great build James! My only suggestion is to add a massive H (with or without a circle around it) somewhere on the roof for "helicopters to land on" I know it's sims and we don't have choppers but i thought it might be fun since you added the emergency entrance vs normal entrance - also would add a little something to the roof view as seen from the gallery ❤
Also i'd love to see this build re-furnished with whatever packs are necessary. Like vending machines in the waiting room? Ooh that makes me think of having an accessibility bath for patients because 1 sims will get crushed and need to recover quick, and 2 irl hospitals probably have a bath for very immobile patients or people wanting a water birth or whatevs
Love the hospital, going to place it as soon as play the game tonight and replace it. The only thing that I would mention (and after watching lots of builds, yours and others) where there is a lot of snow, flat roofs are not practical...the weight of the snow could collapse the roof. This is the first time I really noticed flat roof don't really belong where the is snow. It would probably not cross most peoples mines, but my mind works in mysterious ways, LOL !!!! 😁
So I have recently started playing the game in the way James has played the Bigwallet family: where every generation is a different pack. I used his website and disabled the packs I didn’t want to use for the first generation, and am now on the second generation. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS. I have discovered things about the game that I now love, it’s changed the way I play and build, and it’s made the game interesting and really fun! So thank you, James, for the inspiration. And for making the Sims 4 the most fun it’s ever been. :)
Real hospital wards always have a handwashing sink near the door, and there will be a room with a shower and a room with a toilet either joined onto the ward, or off a corridor near the ward. Patients who are staying overnight in the hospital, recovering from surgery or being treated for a condition need access to showers and toilets if they're able to get out of bed to use them. A real hospital will usually have a gym for phisotherapy. It wouldn't necessarily have normal workout equipment, but there will be equipment for people who are re-learning how to walk after surgery, or have a condition related to muscles or joints or co-ordination and are being treated by a physiotherapist. And like in the sims there will be examination rooms with treadmils in them becuase sometimes that's needed to find out what's happening with a person's heart or lungs.
I never download any builds from RUclipsrs, but this was an absolute necessity to have for the doctor career. Thank you so much, this is truly a game changer!
Oh yes, you really need to rebuild your police station!!! I just rewatched it and I think we all know you could do so much better now! And also with some new updated things like the stairs around the corner and some decorative items
Love this rebuild! The focus on making it functional is so so helpful, most rebuilds I've seen of the hospital are too focused on realism and don't play well at all. And this looks pretty good too. Especially the outside and cafeteria! Idk how anyone likes the default hospital though. It looks okay from the outside, but the interior layout is very poor functionally when played for a long time - Especially because of the only one toilet that's so far away!
fun nurse fact: you should wash your hands 5 times in certain moments (before touching a patient, before a procedure, after procedure or body fluid exposure risk, after touching a patient, and after touching a patient’s surroundings) so when i first played the doctor career, it was really funny to see that one of the tasks is to wash your hands multiple times throughout the day. very realistic 😭
I love this build so much because as much as I love aestheticly pleasing looking hospital but I really need a Sim hospital that makes my gameplay easy 🥲 and this build is not only looks good, its so practical!
ahhhh love this build!! good suggestion from other viewer to maybe start a build series of creating entire James-builds worlds, starting from get to work pack lols definitely feel super refreshing to see builds other than residential houses
Oh! Actually, the showers in the hospital is pretty realistic. I had an extended stay in the ER once (while waiting for a bed elsewhere) and at one point, needed to shower. There was actually a shower in the ER I was able to use at that time.
I actually really love what you did with the new hospital 😍 it looks very good and functional, I can't wait to use it😊 only thing I would've liked is a more eco roof with gras instead of concrete or gravel, so it looks a little bit more friendly from the top. Otherwise I'm very pleased with what you did and you put a lot of thought into it🥰
This is actually perfect for me cause as soon as my sim is done having kids she’s already gone to college and gotten her biology degree so she is going to be a doctor 🥰🥰 thank you for answering my unspoken prayers
I need this!!! I use your high school all the time! I love the way it turned out- I really like the way you tried to make it look like a hospital and sim efficient 😆
Holy crap, you made my day with that video! The thing I wanted the most is for you to do a reno of the Get to Work lots to be more gameplay friendly and updated 😍 If you do that for the lab and the police station I owe you a hug!
this build is amazing! I can’t wait to download it and use it in my current save game (I’m doing the Not So Berry Challenge for the first time and my Sims keep getting abducted and having alien babies! lol so I foresee more trips to the hospital very soon 😂). is there another way to get to the hospital lot without being in the doctor career or having a baby? I swear, I learn so much from your videos! so excited to see the play testing video tomorrow!
My sim is in the doctor career but I’ve been using Kayla’s build guess when she gets a promotion I’ll change the builds out thank you James love the mint green !!!
I'm so glad it isn't just mine where the gallery shows the back. It was fun to see how similar some of the thought processes were between your build and mine.
James... The treadmill machines in a hospital are for heart/cardiac testing... They are used for stress tests, the patient walks on the treadmill while the doctor monitors their heart. They're also used in nuclear medicine.
As someone on Disability, I cannot afford to pay for memberships, Patreon, etc... I can only support by watching the free stuff. It just sucks knowing I'm missing out on good entertainment. Love the hospital.
Hospitals do have showers, I know in America there is, so it’s definitely relevant, and I’ve had tasks to use the gym area, I played a lot in the beginning of get to work 😅 now I’d love if guru’s would make it that when sims get sick that they’d be able to make a dr appt, and I wouldn’t mind rabbit hole with a notification saying your sim has been diagnosed with a migraine and will need to take simtynol as needed, something like that, would be a great life simulation reality 😅 I just think that would be so cool, anyway great build, can’t believe I missed this video.
It'd be cool if you just did a miniseries where you play around with all these special lots and made your own version. Like, what if you redid the build in Realm of Magic too, for example?

Oh yes, you really need to rebuild your police station!!! I just rewatched it and I think we all know you could do so much better now! And also with some new updated things like the stairs around the corner and some decorative items
Love this rebuild! The focus on making it functional is so so helpful, most rebuilds I've seen of the hospital are too focused on realism and don't play well at all. And this looks pretty good too. Especially the outside and cafeteria!
Idk how anyone likes the default hospital though. It looks okay from the outside, but the interior layout is very poor functionally when played for a long time - Especially because of the only one toilet that's so far away!
fun nurse fact: you should wash your hands 5 times in certain moments (before touching a patient, before a procedure, after procedure or body fluid exposure risk, after touching a patient, and after touching a patient’s surroundings)
so when i first played the doctor career, it was really funny to see that one of the tasks is to wash your hands multiple times throughout the day. very realistic 😭
James! If you wanna add a detail on the roof. You could add a helipad. Maybe use a differently colored tile? That would be interesting
I love this build! Thank you so much for keeping in mind how functional a building will be for actual gameplay and not just making it look nice.
OH GREAT!!! Thank YOU!! Oh this is fantastic!! Perfect! Can't wait to download it!
I love this build so much because as much as I love aestheticly pleasing looking hospital but I really need a Sim hospital that makes my gameplay easy 🥲 and this build is not only looks good, its so practical!
I think the exercise equipment might be for physical therapy
I like your hospital design, James. The design looks well thought out.
I like this build a lot. The perfect combination of real life and sims usability!
ahhhh love this build!! good suggestion from other viewer to maybe start a build series of creating entire James-builds worlds, starting from get to work pack lols definitely feel super refreshing to see builds other than residential houses
I like it. You kept the style from the original.
I will plop it in my main save. Thank you !
The sinks will be outside of surgical area. Never running water in a sterile surgical room. Just an FYI. The build looks great though!
This is original content. So fresh. Thank you.
This is actually such a great build! So realistic but also sims style, i love it!
thank you for relieving us with a Hospital build!! Looking good!
Holy crap, you made my day with that video! The thing I wanted the most is for you to do a reno of the Get to Work lots to be more gameplay friendly and updated 😍 If you do that for the lab and the police station I owe you a hug!
Lil Simsie did one for the lab. I use that one all the time. Much more usable than the base version EA made
I think this build is one of your best James!
this build is amazing!
Enjoyed this build video and your gameplay centered practical approach to it a lot
This is so great. I play the doctor career often and it can be kind of a mess. I look forward to seeing the members video of the gameplay too.
The first video I ever watched was when you remodeled the police station. I was hooked and watched ever since.
I love this!!! Looks so great. We really needed a hospital update!
FANTASTIC! Looks so real!
I'd like to say that maybe the gym could be for physiotherapy? Love your videos btw 💚
James... The treadmill machines in a hospital are for heart/cardiac testing... They are used for stress tests, the patient walks on the treadmill while the doctor monitors their heart. They're also used in nuclear medicine.
I just bought the Get to work DLC and thank you!!🥰 Will replace the old hospital with this~
Showers in hospitals are actually staples, especially maternities and long-term care!
As someone on Disability, I cannot afford to pay for memberships, Patreon, etc... I can only support by watching the free stuff. It just sucks knowing I'm missing out on good entertainment.
Love the hospital.
This looks very much like a hospital, which based on your goal is a big compliment I think!
Sometimes you have to place the same lot twice from the gallery to get all the items in the build. Has happened to me before
They have treadmills in hospitals for stress tests for cardiology patients and lots of other things for employees and patients.
I love this. Looks realistic despite being built for gameplay.
I love your builds James! I’m doing a furnishing of your one story house build since I don’t have Growing Together
nice work, James! I would have never figured out that roofing
This is great and exactly what I needed for my game 😊 James always delivering at the right time ❤
Definitely watching this under the lens of Two Point Hospital XD
This looks sweet as! I like that it's minimal for efficient game play 👌
