See when you are 12, songs like this just go over your head, you are full of T. Rex, slade and other stuff, but see when you are 63, this is just pure quality, what an arrangement, brass section and choir
What a man, RIP
Well said sir.
So true but I never particularly liked slade although they were massively popular. Also now I like some Abba but of course it was untrendy back in the day..I also like a lot of classical piano and concerti. When younger i would NEVER listen to it
Same age here and you are so right, better late than never though😂😂
Thank you - well put from another 63 year old who appreciated this song when they first heard it in 1972.
I was only 8...........
Think Peter was born in the wrong decade with his love for the old songs. An extremely, underrated singer and pianist.
One of the most beautiful love songs ever written.
Perfect!
Beautiful and romantic. X
I'm 82, this song has been a favorite of mine for many a year touching the heartstrings. My wife died 2 years ago but before she passed she told me to get on with my life and hoped I would find a partner. Two years on a beautiful lady has come into my life. What a song, what musician what dreams are spun.
Nice mate!!!
I was 16 years old. A new math and physics teacher arrived at the school during the spring days. Carmen was her name, she was very young, she was about 24 years old, very beautiful and sensual. I fell madly in love with her as much as she seemed to me too. Approximately 2 years later she dies due to illness. Now I´m 61 years old, no one can imagine how much I still miss her.
Beautiful
It’s amazing how the years don’t blur our feelings
💔 hearing this song brings it all back even after all these tears
I'm 60 and with the song singing before me, bring happy but sad crying memories to me too, thanks for being so open 👍
Marcel, the best part of life is sometimes those ‘what if’ memories, Without them...............
Skellern, absolute musical genius. The rest of the world was getting off on glam, glitter and distortion in the early '70s; Peter sat at his grand piano delivering harmonic progressions, the complexity and niceness of which Bach would've been proud, to the backdrop of brass bands and angelic choirs. This song, this performance moves me. Magic.
My husband died a few months ago, we had been married for nearly 57 years. Most of the time I want to get on with life and be positive but just sometimes I want to remember times long ago and have a good howl.......and when I do I play Peter singing 'You're a Lady' and it lets me remember the way things used to be. Peter was a very special performer, very gifted and very fondly remembered. He had a unique style that we all recognised because it spoke our inner thoughts.
Diana Stirling i
I hope you're doing better than 'OK' Diana.
I don't think any long term spouse wishes to leave his/her partner alone. We rarely get to choose. We'd wish to leave together, holding hands. Meanwhile we can love and appreciate each other.
Keep enjoying Peter and your very special memories.
Diana Stirling diana remember this is were you will both exist and be together again in your memories, they arent just thoughts in our head they are passages of time where he still exists.x
Remember this while in the kitchen on a Sunday, helping my Mum with lunch - reminds me of my younger days, when everything seemed all OK - now grown up, the world certainly isn’t the same place!
Clare by Gilbert O'Sullivan evokes sunday dinner for me, especially the harp bit in the middle..
I know exactly how you feel…
My son played this for me on my 74th birthday last week. It brought back many memories and I wanted to cry! Vanessa
For those of a certain age, this song holds a special place....
Well said
A Legendary song….most probably one of the best ever
Brilliant song by a brilliant songwriter,I was 14 when this song was a hit, never thought much of it ,now I am older and wiser it's a brilliant song and a brilliant piece of music, and Peter Skellern was a master musician,RIP Mr Skellern.
I was 15 and loved this song so much. Still do. Time flies doesn't it?
Somethings are just perfect, and this is one of them.
Hard to type this with tears in my eyes. Such a beautiful song, beautifully performed. A shame no one makes music like this anymore.
this is why i'm here listening to this now too
I understand Tim.
billion per cent agree 👩❤👨
You are so right my friend,I get so sad and tearful when I hear this beautiful song ,I was 14 years old on first hearing this, and it sounds so much better 50 years later,a bit sad but really wonderful.
Totally agree with you 👍👍👍
Peter Skellern - VASTLY underated.|
Overrated and they let him become a priest.
Loved this song since I heard it as a young boy, I'm nearly 66, and this is just so beautiful, like my wife, soulmate, best friend😊 and rock, Sarah ❤❤❤
Beautiful and haunting romantic song. Timeless.
RIP Peter and thank you.
I love the use of the words hauntingly romantic....this song is terribly haunting. This song defines what I feel romance should be. I am crazy about this song.....🥰
I was 9 when this came onto the radio. Although I didn’t understand what love was about yet, I loved the tune and the gentle lyrics. A year later I lost my innocence, and I realise that this song, in part, symbolises my childhood perhaps more than any other. Now I’m 60, and having come out of a largely unhappy 31-year marriage, I am finally experiencing true love like I never thought existed. This is the soundtrack of my innocent romantic longings.
my dad loved Peter, God rest him,🙏,
What a brilliant song. The piano and lyrics are masterful.. And the use of the choir in the arrangement is clever. But what really makes the song so memorable is the outro with the choir and piano.
RIP Peter. You've left us this masterpiece in sense of a song.
Sad to have heard that Peter died today. Talented musician and wonderful writer. RIP
flashtheoriginal absolutely
yes sad, news although i was into T.rex and Sweet at the time i always loved this song, epic ending.
@@samgub My 2 favorite groups as well, but this was a great song.
Peter was a real gem, rip fair fellow
Best Balled I've ever heard, just gone back 50 years
A class of his own....golden unforgotten 70's 👌
Major nostalgia moment. What an amazing song ... who would have thought a man on a piano with a brass band in the background and a ladies choir the background could pull it off and then some .. heart achingly good and still brings tears to my eyes. Bless you Peter Skeller .
Profound words Carol, and beautifully expressed!
THANK YOU Carol, for a review worthy of the man and his music . . .
Carol, you are spot on ,so miss music like this guy gave us .😢
Will never forget this beautiful song was a teenager when i first heard it, haunting melody.
I saw this on RUclips and the memories came flooding back. Brilliant song performed by a great artist. One of my all time favourites.
Just heard this song in an old aircheck posted on FaceBook. I hadn't heard it in 50 years, and it brought back so many memories of 1972. Beautiful ballad, Peter has that same wistful voice as Gilbert O'Sullivan, another very talented pianist and songsmith. Thanks for posting.
About as close to the perfect ballad as you can ever get, just amazing.
Like everyone who lived back then and was younger and thought these songs were slush , but with age and having loved and lost you appreciate just how good this guy was . The knowledge That this love song was probably written after a certain experience Peter had at the time. Great song and very distinctive style.👍🏻
So well remarked
Absolutely right.
Absolutely wonderful. One of the best songs ever written and only Peter could have sung it. Tearful.
Colin Bluntstone would have sung this brilliantly.
Always loved the beautiful arrangement of this mellow, classic song. It has ‘everything’ 😊
Love this song. Peter was in my opinion a very underated singer. Terrific era for music.
Thank you, Mr. Skellern.
Those people in the audience had no idea how good this singer songwriter was in front of them.Peter Skellern.
Oh for a romance like this. This song makes me melt...
R.I.P Peter Skellern 1947-2017
A comforting man with his lyrics, someone who really stood out in those days but yet with comparatively simple music.
There’s never being anyone to replace him, and there won’t be, because he was unique.
Thank you mate, I loved your style and your comforting words.
I was 9 years old in 1972 and mad about the Osmonds but I loved this song and I continued to listen to it it all through my teens and beyond. Peter Skellern's granddaughter emailed Johnnie Walker (sounds of the 70s) a little while ago to ask for this song to be played in honour of her granddad which I thought was very sweet.
Wonderful! Such a beautiful, gentle song full of love. RIP Peter, I loved your songs.
My mum loved this song. Happy Mother's Day 2024
The song was a very big hit in the seventies!. Still very beautiful. I will miss Peter Skellern very much.
Ageless.
Skellern played twice on Swedish national radio this week. (May 2023) A sign? let´s hope so.
Pure magic.
Utterly beautiful song beautifully sung by a wonderful artist. Genuine talent.
Just perfect - how could any lady resist a plea like this? Beautiful memories.
Masterpiece
💕
Wonderful musician taken from us far too soon RIP Peter
This song always fills my eyes with tears. Peter Skellern was a genius. Makes me feel very proud to be born in the same country as the brilliant Peter Skellern. I do pray to to our dear Lord God, that someone in the near future will again to start to write songs like this again.
Niko Nikolic I write songs like this. Had a CD produced in 1996 + TV appearances, but it’s tough to make it in the U.K.
I knew Peter personally. Lovely man. Lovely family. A sad loss.
RML Bobby D sounds good. I would love to hear your songs. Do you have any info or links I could use to hear some of your songs? I sing with my sister - she plays guitar and flute. We have also written some original songs with a unique sound. My influences are 60s and 70s.
@@MrDavey2010 I keep going back to the well of this great man,s repertoire. No words can really do justice .... just and totally brilliant. Ballards that speak to the heart. Just so sad he,s left us
And, did your god answer you?
This is a beautiful song loved it in 1972 and still love it til this day R. I, P. Peter
wonderfully different gorgeous music. I grew up hearing Peter Skellern played during our visits out in the car. It will have clearly had an influence to my own music
Une chanson tellement émouvante et romantique ❤❤❤❤
Classical, Brass band and pop song in one, a song Mr McCartney would have been proud of, God Bless You Peter, pure Genius
Oh dear, I was 15 years old when I heard this song for first time, it became of of my favorite songs of all the time, myself I considered this one of the Top 10 most beautiful romantic songs ever made, thanks a lot for the memories
You and me too buddy. I was into the Sweet, Roxy Music, Bowie etc, but this song drilled into my heart, and at 65yo now I still don't know why.
R.I.P. Peter, your wonderful music will live on. Thank you, you brought great pleasure into my life
And mine R. I. P. Peter
Another magical talent gone. So sad.
Je viens d'apprendre le décès de PETER ,C'EST TROP TRISTE QUEL GRAND ARTISTE ,j'ai souvent ses chansons dans la tête pour toujours.Agnes 🌹
A masterpiece,what a great tune,a time when songs had meaning.r.i.p Peter.
God bless you, Peter. Thanks for the music, you were the best . . .
I was 8 when this song came out, I always remember long Sundays and the smell of warm drying washing and this song in a dimly lit sitting room. The ending caught my ear and I have never forgotten this song through my life, now 60. It was my private song, for my memory. Thank you Peter.
Such a beautiful music! Romantic and poetic!
The kind of song where you have to stop what you're doing when you hear it and listen intently to the lyrics which he conveys beautifully
Piękny utwór, wspaniałe wykonanie, mój ulubiony utwór
...hearing this beautiful song transports me back to my childhood, aged 9-10..living at home..I miss my mum, and those carefree days..she passed 6 years ago aged 83 😢
Great music, crafted and beautifully sung, wont happen again, sadly.
I go to work I come home I think why not, I LOVE THIS SONG ❤❤
Ah the memories of a different time, this song just takes you there...
Still remember the words all these years later, good music never dies
It could have been recorded with a lot of violins, and the whole thing would have been a failure. The brass really did this justice. It is a wonderful melody.
I think you are quite right. The brass was needed to make the song more powerfull.
Although I love to hear violins more, bur for this song.....perfectly. And don't forget this choir. Wonderfull.
Yes, beautiful sung lyrics to the music of Rachmaninov. A giant of a song. Thank you Peter Skellern. May you rest in peace.
@@annaveenstra4557 yes you are right, the choice of the brass band and the choir was more than unique
Passei 20 anos tentando encontrar esta bela canção. Felizmente consegui realizar esse sonho 👏👏👏

Reminiscing the 70s right now l was very fortunate to grow up in those innocent times
Reminds me of England at Christmas thanks for reminding me
Wonderful ballad. Love it.
Always loved Peter Skellern 🙏
Hi everyone I love this song it's all amazing and that's love.
Blissful 😊
They don't write music or songs like this any more, quite simply exquisite, can only think of these words to sum the time of music like this, 'Golden days spent in the sunshine of our happy youth'
Lovely song sung by a very vocaly gifted man
Je ne m en lasse pas. Que de beaux souvenirs de jeunesse 🔥🔥🔥
When my poopa died my uncle nmum heard this a lot I love it I'm in Australia now😊
Uma música clássica, verdadeira obra de arte que ficará para sempre!♥️♥️
RIP Peter
Reminders of my primary school and a girl called Theresa who I had a crush on unfortunately she went up to the local grammar school and me to the local comprehensive school the song was in the charts at that time
As good today as when I first heard this great song back in '73. Most of the words came straight out of my head, so I wish I could have written it.
I remember Peter skeletons song when it first come what a song all these years later it still sounds great.songs of that era were written from the heart now a days it seems like romance isn't like it used to be.
Leslie Lingard
Brilliant song, remember it well, the finale is the icing on the cake...
Wonderful.
Absolutely terrific, I'd forgotten how good this was. The understated performance and the gentle humour with Skellern's wonderful voice is just great. I've recently been listening to his recording of 'Love is the Sweetest Thing' which makes Al Bowlly's version, from one of the greatest crooners ever, sound like he's belting it out in a music hall.
It's a nice video that shows the man himself and his performing style, I assume it's mimed to the record as there's no microphones on the piano, the wide shot would show any boom mics, and it definitely looks like a hand-painted white piano from the props dept rather than a concert Steinway, I'm not even certain that the hammers were moving when you could see inside. But that's not the point, just amusing to see and it appeals to my nerdy observer's mind.
Had his album hard times great music
My grandad loved this n my mum brings back memories about them I still tear upp
Linda.....linda.....linda....this music don"t need words,,,just aplause wow wow wow,,, Ilove it
]
Love the brass arrangement
Pure Magic!!
Canção linda, que marcou a minha existência nos anos 70, Peter fez lindas canções.... RIP
Achei um 🇧🇷.Até que enfim!
muito verdadeiro !
Absolutely brilliant what a artist, although I'm on 67 I have a passion for that type and era of music I just love the 40s and 50s sounds in fact I loved watching the tv series 'pennies from heaven ' with the great Bob Hoskins' thanks Peter never to be forgotten.
Sadly missed always! Great song and singer !
I'm sad he's gone. Good man
20 21 still a great song
