#ABBA
Being a 66 year-old Brit and quite familiar with the Abba years, I always thought their greatness was best demonstrated in their poignant songs rather than the party songs (shall we say)
Oh yes absolutely.
Spot on
Yes true, Oh God ! The lirics , the beat of the melody are killing me ...even after so many years, i m in my 60' s
interested to know what you class as the 'party songs'? upbeat like waterloo and dancing queen?
ESSA MÚSICA FAZ FLUTUAR MINHA ALMA.
This song described my life 35 years ago, working two jobs as an immigrant who came to the US with nothing, I was working routinely without aim, lived the single life yet still without aim, 5 years later I saw her smiley eyes in a night that changed my life. The very next morning I stood at the window and listened to this beautiful song for the thousand times yet I finally felt what it meant, I listened to my life in a song and I discovered that I am in love with that beautiful girl I saw the night before, fast forward almost 30 years that girl still my wife and I still feel the same feeling that I felt the morning after I saw her the first time. ABBA has impacted my life in the most beautiful way.
Today July 2nd, 2024 we celebrate our 30th anniversary and the day after you came continue to be written, love is a gift that I cherish and never take for granted.....
Fantastic
this is amazing
Bravo Sam!

At her most beautiful too
So clever to describe a love affair from the emptiness of life before. I've never heard any song do that before or since. Heart-rending and genius.
I agree. It's also the ABBA song that sounds the most modern.
Pete Waterman said if I had only written one song in his life, it would have been this one. He absolutely loves it, as I do
I've always thought there's an echo of this song in Kylie's Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi?
I think its what you would call "hauntingly beautiful".
As indeed she is.
Нет, эпоха АВВА, это хорошее, без навязчиво! Спасибо АВВА!
One of the best songs ever written. Fantastic lead vocals by Agnetha, gorgeous operatic backing vocals by Frida. Seemingly simple, but absolutely genius writing of lyrics and music. By the best band ever. This song just never gets old.
This is my favourite ABBA song, but I always thought of it as a story of a bored girl finally finding a lover who will change her life. But I think now that the song is even darker: when she meets this man, she fucks it up and never sees him again. So her life changed, but not with a romantic happy ending. Great songwriting and so true to life.
I’m 60 now. My favourite Abba song. Masterpiece.
Always been mine too. Masterpiece

Earlier, when I was young, I did not understand the meaning of two songs by this Great band... These are the songs "The winner gets everything” and the meaning of this song.... I am 47 and I began to understand its meaning, both with my soul and my heart... "ABBA", thank you for the music.
It's a shame this song didn't get more recognition because it's clearly one of their best.
Ok but how many 'best' do they have?.

This is the best song Abba ever made. Truly amazing. Makes you wonder if they’d carried on a little longer. This song is a masterpiece.
They precisely did not carry on a little longer because of this song not topping the chart (Benny said that if THIS song had been a success, they would have continued a couple of years more).
Yes.... it is the very best song of abba ❤❤❤
@@leilashampoo1408 Sadly as the 80s came, both couples divorced and the ABBA craze of the 70s had started to fade.
Had they continued they would’ve came up with more masterpieces. “I Am The City” was a testament to that, on what was supposed to be their album after “The Visitors”, “Opus”. But “Opus” never happened. “Just Like That” was a masterpiece in the works but never fully completed.

zanetierney You ain't wrong pal. I grew up with Abba and this song always meant the most. I just love the way it documents!
This song almost brings me to tears. My favorite song from ABBA.
A total iconic masterpiece in music history. This song best describes what ABBA was going through as a group at this time and tells the whole story with just the beat. So sad considering this was their last song ever recorded together. It gives me chills knowing that Agnetha refused to sing this song unless the lights were dimmed in the studio and the air was just right. She even had a certain distance from the microphone during the recording. The fact she left the studio right after her last vocal in this song, not saying a word to anybody, and valuing to never go on stage again is haunting. Just makes this song ever so much more meaningful, beautiful, and powerful with how much heartbreak and talent that was involved in its creation. You can hear her heart through her voice. There is no music that comes close to ABBA. They are one of a kind, never to be duplicated again. Everything they did together was a success. And it still holds true today. I hope they never forget what they did for our industry and how much we love them. We miss you ABBA!
You’ve opened my eyes to another possible background to this wow!!!
But it wasn’t their last song ever recorded together. There are at least 5 new songs, and Bjorn is not featured in the recording. Only Agnetha, Frida and Benny are featured.
@@Clavinovaman this is really theirs last song ever

This is truly the best Abba song ever wow! what a masterpiece! the mood of the song is so powerfull, and with it being the last recording before they split in 1982 it explains why, for a song to make you cry and hit you so hard is not an easy thing to do! well done guys i only wish this song got the praise and recognition it deserves, the video is also perfect for the song even down the the lighting.
Слышится полный трагизм в отношениях, терзания и страдания души, невозможно передать это чувство, когда слова так гармонично ложатся на мелодию.

The last minute is instrumental only and adds to the greatness of this recording!
ABBA were musical masters. Their songs are as fresh today as they were when they were released. Such a great musical legacy.
Yes indeed, and this is why I am sure that 100-500 years from now, ABBA will be regarded in a similar way to how we enjoy the composers of hundreds of years ago. They are truly unique, with an amazing portfolio of songs, never to be repeated again, and to be preserved for ever.
It must never be forgotten, that like many great and successful recording / performing musical artists, they had a great team of producer's and Musician's supporting them, a wonderful organisation altogether.
I think that, not only is it Abba's best song, it may well be one of the best songs ever written.
To me it undoubtedly is

As a gothic i never imagined that i would like an abba song.
Божественная баллада! Как нигде проявляется красота Агнеты!
"it's funny but I had no sense of living without aim. The day before you came."
All the song is made for that, and that two simple sentences tell so much. Great lyrics.
I was captivated by those lines too. They say so much, yet the song remains ambiguous. Great tune.
It's about hope somehow - love comes one day -, but also about the sadness of the emptiness until then... an emptiness we fill with busy-ness and TV and reading and normal everyday things... Yet there's something missing... and she didn't know until it entered her life... So the Aim should be Love. :-)
The best part of the ABBA reunion is that people will discover songs like this that got no attention but are still relevant today and will hopefully be re released. ABBA has so many songs that could have been huge hits and were not released!!
Couldn't agree with you more
I agree. "Under Attack", "Angeleyes", "The Visitors",...etc.
No and this is why.... these are dated,i live in Sweden and i for one can tell ,that the "new listeners" will go back, as every one has so far.
the 2 last albums of ABBA were hardly noticed, we all loved it, but it was all a matter of routine...
I'm sure Mamma Mia helped in that regard
Agreed. This is is such a gorgeous song, and so few people seem to even know it exists. It's also Agnetha's best work in a video, imo.
Not only do l think that this song is the best ABBA ever released, l actually one of the cleverest, brilliant songs ever written. How many think, as l do, that she is singing this song AFTER he has gone?
That`s, what I wrote one week before. Was the last song, ABBA released and I guess, it was their way to express the sadness ending ABBA.
It's.true
Words.and.song.
I.agree.with.you.amen.
Also brilliant how they asked Agnetha to not sing it perfectly like she could, but pretend she was just an average person singing about her daily life.
And indeed it makes sense that it is after the loss and a reflection of what has been.
I grew up with my stepdad being a big ABBA fan. I discovered Heavy Metal in my teens and just last week I went to an Iron Maiden concert. But every now and then I come back and must satisfy my ABBA craving. This is one of their best songs and probably one of the best pop songs ever written.

I grew up with my dad being a big ABBA fan too!!!
This song captures how ordinary, how dull life must have been before you found your soul mate. I can't imagine life without my lover
Surely this is their crowning achievement. Simultaneously melancholic yet giving hope to lonely people everywhere.
Yes. This song is a masterpiece as it can be interpreted as the boredom of life, hoping that a new person is just on the horizon, maybe tomorrow.
For some people, that person never comes. But live in hope
To all the lonely souls
A musical masterpiece. Doesn't matter if you're into heavy metal to Mozart and everything in-between. This is just brilliant. The vocals and the story of a mundane day brought to life in this recording. And the background music. I'm no expert so probably a technical name for it but it's so understated but so brilliant at the same time. Just my opinion but i think this is the best Abba song by a country mile and possibly one of the all time greats. Love to hear your thoughts and if you agree or disagree.
Benny is closest to the classic composers that we had in our lifetime. This song is brilliant due to the mixture of synths, drops and the haunting backvocals of Frida, who sound like a grieving mythological creature. Masterpiece to say at least.

4:24 Listen to the way she "sings" the word "rain". I put "sings" in quotes because it sounds more like she is speaking instead of singing, it's dissonant. Hundreds, maybe thousands of times I heard this song, and it's the first time I've noticed this and it's absolutely beautiful. This is what great music can do. You think you know a song, until some little detail you weren't aware of before is revealed to you one day. And that little detail, even a single note, even a dissonant note, can move you to tears.

Love it. But maybe The winner takes it all is a little bit better...
The sense of somber and longing is so powerful with this masterpiece. One of the most underrated songs from ABBA by far.
Yeah... though I think a lot of Abba fans find this, one of the songs they play again and again.. so many fans rate this number highly!
Прекрасная группа!
Прекрасная песня!
Голоса ....жаль, но сейчас нет таких божественных исполнителей!!!
Мира! Здоровья! Любви всем народам планеты!!!
36 years later sounds amazing, what a classic!
agnetha's voice never fades..ABBA was really fantastic!..
And now, we have a new ABBA songs, so this beautiful song is not the last one, which was recorded!😜
Sure thing....😊👍
Wasn't it "Under Attack"?
Pedro Bonucci under attack was the last single, but the last song recorded (until 2018) was the day before you came
This was the last one to be recorded? :))) One of their best songs, in my opinion.
The best ever👍
By God, what beauty Agnetha is, unmatched. ❤❤❤❤❤
The real miracle of the song, is that the man who wrote the lyrics didn't speak English as his first language, and neither did the man who put the words to music. Fantastic song, as is Andante Andante, their other gem.
Winner Takes it All. Another stunning work of art.
@@davidelliott5843Chiquitita too!❤
@@tonyflannery9446 Incredible! And the second miracle is that unforgettable video with Agnetha's performance and voice.
@@davidelliott5843 Clear! Well worthy for a unique performer like Agnetha.
This is the one you don’t appreciate is great until you have lived longer.
У Агнеты замечательный актерский талант! Женщина, которую обожает весь мир!
Benny Andersson is one of the true music geniuses of our time; just sublime! Agnetha's stunning vocals complement his music so beautifully and make this one of the best songs ever recorded imo.
A masterpiece. My absolute favourite song. Have played it a million times. Agnetha sings and performs perfectly.
Agreed. And the questions it leaves unanswered.....addictive.
@@stanhumphreys9282 very true
melody and back vocal very harmony too
@@maddogg1432 yes back vocals are perfection by Frida.
@@wheretheroadtakesus523 ohh it's Frida? thank you, i didn't know it)
i lost my husband on 20th october 2023 and when we first met 6 years ago we confessed it was our all time favourite song, rip graham
🙏🙏🙏❤😥
You have my condolences. Celebrate his life with this❤
ABBA had 'It' - a gift from beyond this world.
