A new Donkey Kong is my prediction/hope. I would be ok with a 2D, but really prefer they take another shot at a 3D title, especially as Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Pokemon, all have 2D AND 3D options on Switch... and all DK got was a port of Tropical Freeze from the Wii U. Way too neglected. For Zelda, all I ask for is the WW & TP ports. Please and thank you. I can wait a bit longer for another 2D title.

I can imagine the 40 minute Direcr uses time to reveal the gameplay and go in depth a bit about the game for a release of fall 2024. Since it’s been so long in development perhaps it’s ready to show and release closely to the end of the Switch era. They have to show something at this point. Now or never feeling.

They could reveal it here and then down the road when they reveal the next console and do a presentation they can do a more in depth trailer and give the release date and announce that it's coming to the next console. The game shot to the top of Amazon's best sellers list immediately, Nintendo didn't make enough physical copies to meet demand, and it sold over 1 million in one month, and that figure is only digital sales. Metroid Prime Remastered did very well. While there are no updated sales figures, I think its safe to say it sold a few million which is a lot for Metroid.

"Un-integrating" WWHD & TPHD shouldn't be an issue since they both had full pro control support. The biggest thing they would have to do is replace the Miiverse stamps for other in-game items like rupees.
No way, though I feel like this comment was written in jest, I will respond earnestly! I think it’s going to be a “real” Star Fox. Though I do think there will be some gimmicky additions to pad out the play time. So maybe there are some on foot sections! But I think this is the chance to put out a Star Fox (a series they love) that is of the switch era of Nintendo quality
Here's another possibility for the holiday game: A new Mario RPG of some kind. They tested the market with remakes of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door; the last holiday of the Switch would be a perfect time for one last test: is there really renewed demand for Mario RPGs, or is it just nostalgia for childhood classics? And yes, this prediction is absolutely biased by what I want.
Not gonna happen. They put a lot of money into the marketing for Luigi's Mansion 2. Releasing 1, which is a more beloved game, would take away the sales of 2.
A super metroid remake would go so hard. i will always stand by the original as a game that has aged like wine, but a remake with dread visuals and action pieces would be a dream come true
I think because we're on the cusp of a brand-new system altogether, it'd be foolish for Nintendo to just drop a new 3D Mario of any kind at the tail end of the system's life, especially if right before the next one. Even if it were cross gen let's say, dropping it before us knowing anything about the next system makes 0 sense when 3D Mario's one of their biggest breadwinners by a significant margin.
There are well over 140 million reasons why Nintendo would want to release any big game on the Switch, I really don't get why people keep saying it's impossible. I think they'd be fools not to, tbh

Having an 3D Mario title in 2 cross console wouldn't work because the newer console probably won't sell very well and people will be sticking to the latest system.
Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD already worked without the game pad, so all they have to do is remove the game pad stuff. This is the last chance to see those games on Switch. I'm expecting something Kirby related. It's been a while and Kirby is always there to see the death of a console.
I'd love to see a new Mario & Luigi game released this holiday season. Maybe it's too soon, but maybe the remakes of Mario RPG and Thousand Year Door get people hungry for a new RPG title. One can dream.
Super Metroid is one of those games I feel like they're better off not remaking. It's a game that has such a legacy behind it that it feels like any attempt to remake it is just going to have its fans say 'the original is better.'
It's a legendary game so few people have played. I think it can sell well plus getting people to know Metroid. To me, it seems a good idea, even if it won't be like the original.
Agreed. Would be very hard to capture the feel of the original. Super Metroid is tuned so finely between gameplay and ambience that I'm not sure how you would improve it. This is why I prefer when weirder/less polished games get remakes like Metroid II. A lot more room to improve.
My two main wishes for pretty much every direct for the Switch have been as follows: Something Metroid Prime related, be it news of 4's development progress, or a remaster of Prime 2 and/or 3. A port of Xenoblade Chronicles X to the Switch.
I'm actually expecting the fe4 remake to come out on switch 2 personally. Battles in that game are large scale and take place across huge maps, so I could totally see it being used as a sort of technical showcase.

I hope that Nintendo does everything in their power to make the name as different from the Switch as possible. The Switch was a gigantic step away from the Wii U, which was a part of why it was successful: its uniqueness. We need to see more of that uniqueness in the next Nintendo console.
Metroid Prime 4 could be a Breath of the WIld situation, where it's a launch title/early title for the new system, but also a swan song for the last gen consoles as well. Both Breath of the World and Metroid Prime 4 were announced early on in their respective systems lives as well. Just saying :)
We've already gotten 2 Mario Party games on the Switch. I know there used to be one almost every year, but I think we've had enough Mario Party for one console at this point. Donkey Kong, however, would be a big yes.

It would be a small thing but I think it's reasonable to hope for something about the new Layton game. Level 5 has its own event sometime this year, but it would still make sense for at least a release date to show up in a direct.
I think its going to be an OOT remake. Not a remaster but a full remake, because they wont be able to justify a remaster anymore but I cant imagine them not wanting to sell OOT at full price.
I don't know if it's LIKELY... but Retro giving us a Metroid Prime 4 teaser and then announcing a brand new DKC Returns game for this year would be both surprising and welcome for me :) Also, I have my fingers crossed for a possible Kid Icarus Uprising remaster/remake.

Starting out with Link's Awakening DX footage and saying the word logic in the first 40 seconds is already a more apt prediction for the contents of the direct than anyone knew at the time.
They would release Metroid Prime 4 on Switch because when it was revealed they stated now in development… for Nintendo Switch. They actually *have* to release it. But I do think it will ultimately release simultaneously on old and new, not that it’s a particularly unique take.
EXACTLY. That’s what I’ve been saying. If they cancelled prime 4 for the switch 1 it would piss a lot of people off who were waiting for the game. Not everyone wants to buy a switch 2 or can afford one. The idea of Nintendo scrapping the switch game just seems crazy.

To add to 2D Zelda, there was a cancelled Gameboy Zelda. They could do a triple pack of the originals remade and add the DOA. Pokemon did a similar thing with Z-A.
I think it’s pretty clear it will be a new Donkey Kong. The theme park is coming up, there’s rumblings of a movie, the amount of merchandise for the franchise has been going nuts as of late - all things point towards a new DK.
I think maybe a story teaser of Metroid Prime 4 rather than a game play reveal might be possible or maybe something like the Pikmin 4 teaser, something that hints at the game's gimmick.

They left the stamps from 3d world in the game and added a photo mode to use them in. Perhaps they could do that for wind waker and twilight princess

Here's another possibility for the holiday game: A new Mario RPG of some kind. They tested the market with remakes of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door; the last holiday of the Switch would be a perfect time for one last test: is there really renewed demand for Mario RPGs, or is it just nostalgia for childhood classics?
And yes, this prediction is absolutely biased by what I want.

Not gonna happen. They put a lot of money into the marketing for Luigi's Mansion 2. Releasing 1, which is a more beloved game, would take away the sales of 2.

A super metroid remake would go so hard. i will always stand by the original as a game that has aged like wine, but a remake with dread visuals and action pieces would be a dream come true
I think because we're on the cusp of a brand-new system altogether, it'd be foolish for Nintendo to just drop a new 3D Mario of any kind at the tail end of the system's life, especially if right before the next one. Even if it were cross gen let's say, dropping it before us knowing anything about the next system makes 0 sense when 3D Mario's one of their biggest breadwinners by a significant margin.
There are well over 140 million reasons why Nintendo would want to release any big game on the Switch, I really don't get why people keep saying it's impossible. I think they'd be fools not to, tbh
@@moyetlicious Why? because a new 3D Mario would drive up sales of the new console if they release their new 3D Mario game on the switch then people would be less inclined to buy a switch 2 it is all about making people have interest for the next console which normally the best way to drive up interest is to target the most popular series you have and have them at or around launch

Not that they'll tell us they're cross gen, I think that will come later when they actually reveal the new console. They'll try to have their cake and eat it, basically

@user-od2qc2od1y When you have an mascot as big as Mario, than you wonna be careful how when it's released and what console it'll be on. Having an 3D Mario title in 2 cross console wouldn't work because the newer console probably won't sell very well and people will be sticking to the latest system.

Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD already worked without the game pad, so all they have to do is remove the game pad stuff. This is the last chance to see those games on Switch.

Super Metroid is one of those games I feel like they're better off not remaking.
It's a game that has such a legacy behind it that it feels like any attempt to remake it is just going to have its fans say 'the original is better.'
It's a legendary game so few people have played.
I think it can sell well plus getting people to know Metroid.
To me, it seems a good idea, even if it won't be like the original.
That's why it would be a harmless remake at worst, though. If it doesn't match up to the original, it won't replace it.
As much as it would be nice to have a remake of it, it really doesn't need one. I'd rather they did a little remaster of Prime Hunters.

Agreed. Would be very hard to capture the feel of the original. Super Metroid is tuned so finely between gameplay and ambience that I'm not sure how you would improve it. This is why I prefer when weirder/less polished games get remakes like Metroid II. A lot more room to improve.
My two main wishes for pretty much every direct for the Switch have been as follows:
Something Metroid Prime related, be it news of 4's development progress, or a remaster of Prime 2 and/or 3.
A port of Xenoblade Chronicles X to the Switch.
We're overdue for a big Donkey Kong or Mario Party game. I'm hoping for a big 3D Yoshi game.
Mario Party is possible, but Yoshi 3D or Donkey Kong will maybe release on the switch 2, not on the old switch.

I'm actually expecting the fe4 remake to come out on switch 2 personally. Battles in that game are large scale and take place across huge maps, so I could totally see it being used as a sort of technical showcase.

I hope that Nintendo does everything in their power to make the name as different from the Switch as possible. The Switch was a gigantic step away from the Wii U, which was a part of why it was successful: its uniqueness. We need to see more of that uniqueness in the next Nintendo console.

Metroid Prime 4 could be a Breath of the WIld situation, where it's a launch title/early title for the new system, but also a swan song for the last gen consoles as well. Both Breath of the World and Metroid Prime 4 were announced early on in their respective systems lives as well. Just saying :)

We've already gotten 2 Mario Party games on the Switch. I know there used to be one almost every year, but I think we've had enough Mario Party for one console at this point. Donkey Kong, however, would be a big yes.

It would be a small thing but I think it's reasonable to hope for something about the new Layton game. Level 5 has its own event sometime this year, but it would still make sense for at least a release date to show up in a direct.

I think its going to be an OOT remake. Not a remaster but a full remake, because they wont be able to justify a remaster anymore but I cant imagine them not wanting to sell OOT at full price.

Starting out with Link's Awakening DX footage and saying the word logic in the first 40 seconds is already a more apt prediction for the contents of the direct than anyone knew at the time.
They would release Metroid Prime 4 on Switch because when it was revealed they stated now in development… for Nintendo Switch. They actually *have* to release it. But I do think it will ultimately release simultaneously on old and new, not that it’s a particularly unique take.
EXACTLY. That’s what I’ve been saying. If they cancelled prime 4 for the switch 1 it would piss a lot of people off who were waiting for the game. Not everyone wants to buy a switch 2 or can afford one. The idea of Nintendo scrapping the switch game just seems crazy.

The theme park is coming up, there’s rumblings of a movie, the amount of merchandise for the franchise has been going nuts as of late - all things point towards a new DK.
A Zelda spinoff sounds plausible.
I want a spinoff where you play as Zelda herself in disguise as Shiek on the run from Ganondorf.
I think maybe a story teaser of Metroid Prime 4 rather than a game play reveal might be possible or maybe something like the Pikmin 4 teaser, something that hints at the game's gimmick.
