As a teenager in 76 when this was a hit I HATED it and the sound of his voice grated on me. FFW nearly 50 years and 60 yr old me came across the track on a compilation CD. I was about to skip the track but for some reason I decided to give it a listen and WOW I was blown away. First the musicianship and then the terrific vocal performance blew me away. The icing on the cake was just how superb it SOUNDED- The recording and mastering was amazing. I'm constantly amazed at discovering time and again how stupid I was when I was younger!
I kinda liked it in a curious way as a 12year old , I didn't really understand what it was all about but now at 59 I absolutely love it. I saw Andy on stage playing with Roger Waters a few years ago, hes an absolute machine and kinda jokes around with Roger, something none of the floyd could ever dare !

I may be off court, but Andy must be sending a message. Booze wrecks many family setups and causes severe loneliness, I messed up but beat its bug. Music like Andy's and others keep the ball rolling. No person is immune, but great riffs ease the stress.
Andy Fairweather Low must be one of the most underrated muscians ever. He's been going for decades backing Clapton, Harrison, a brilliant guitar player as well as a writer, in addition to Amen Corner in the 70s.
Absolutely! I read in Phil Palmer's book he was originally offered the EC 'Unplugged' gig (having been with the band for quite a few years prior) but turned this particular project down. AFL took it and the rest is history...

@@paul-ok7uw Yes. Now finding quality music is easier than ever thanks to the internet. When you turn on the radio, you may hear whatever the programmer has decided to broadcast at that particular time. Back in the old days, if you turned on the radio and it wasn't good, you had to seek out good stuff by waiting for the song to change, changing the station, turning off the radio and waiting a bit before turning it back on, looking in the newspaper for gig listings, going to the pub to see if there was a good band on, browsing record stores, asking your friends what was good or what they liked. Much of this still goes on today.
I didnt know that Cardiff is just about the least Welsh part of Wales. Your comment sent me to wikipedia for an explanation. I think Wales should have chosen a capital with an impossible name just to annoy the English. Machynlleth, for example. I can hear the newsreaders spluttering and coughing that one out. Except your man Huw Edwards.
It’s about getting pissed. “Wide eyed” and “Legless” are both terms for being very drunk. British slang has a seemingly endless supply of terms for being KO-litic.
Coolest man on the planet then , and still watch it 3 or 4 times a week, not many pop stars look as though they're enjoying it as much as him ,he's a natural and still going strong

This wasn't what I was into at that time, but it was SO much what I liked too. Love how he's kind of aware of being (mildly) inappropriate singing about being kettled to an audience of 14 year olds. Superb band, brilliant sound.
I always loved this song and the musicians who played it! Last night, at my local acoustic club, on of the chaps played it on his guitar and sung it and asked if i'd like to fill in the interlude on my treble recorder. I couldn't remember exactly how it went but made it up as I went along and then played along with the outro, bluesy- jazz style. IT went down a storm!

The pain, sorrow, and beauty of this song is beyond words.
