Great episode, love these guys. So much can be done with them as inspiration. Narcan is the drug that neutralizes opiate overdoses. The Super Mario Odyssey producer, Yoshiaki Koizumi, stated that the mushroom bulb is a part of Toad's head and not a cap/hat. Well it may be a "cap," as in the fungal term. This is contradicted by some other Mario products, like the cartoon, for example. Which version is canon?: no clue. The toad species *may be* myconids...with mouths. On the other hand, they could also be overtaken/controlled by a fungus that is similar to cordyceps, a parasitic fungi. Goombas are fungi, for sure, they're based on shiitake mushrooms. Mycorrhizae are a symbiotic relationship between a fungus and a plant, which is the most common symbiotic relationship plants have on the planet. It's a neural network type root structure, that links the fungi and plant roots, which also acts as a nutrient delivery system, somewhat like an external gut. What sounds like a cool homebrew idea is Illithids tapping into the mycorhizome structure and hijacking the ability myconids use to control other fungi and plant-like monsters. Doubt this is officially possible, but it's fun/frightening to imagine. Theros, the new setting, is a plane where the mortals' belief actually changes the reality of the plane's gods. It has to be believed by a majority of the mortal residents, though.
About the illithid idea. I think that I heard somewhere that illithids have been known to enslave myconids specifically to mutate them to constantly grow edible mushrooms for their slaves. I might've heard that in AJ Picketts episode on these guys
I love everything about this. My druid has a special pouch with hallucinatory mushrooms in it, so i think Dresden would like them! Also, great job Brian! Its always great when you break Will and he just moves on. Gets me going every time.
I am listening to your content from the beginning and just started the duragar episode from 2019. Took about a month and a bit. You guys are really awesome and I enjoy the dynamic between you to. Just came here to finally see what you to look like. Thanks For all the great content. Also from South Africa. In the last episode I listened to you guys where talking about your first fan from Sweden so now you know you have at least on from SA as well as all my friends who listen to you now.
I was thinking about using Myconids in my game. You guys convinced me! I’m having fun thinking of colony ideas and encounters involving these guys. Thank you guys for making the lore easier to understand.
I have liked and commented! I continue to serve the fungal dungeoncast! Hmm, interesting. This week's gift of knowledge is a great boon, for I stumbled across a colony of myconids after descending down into the underdark. I came down here to find out if any kua-toa where living underneath our good lands, but it seems my journey has been stalled. The myconids are rather peaceful creatures, I don't believe they've noticed my presence. Either I've been rolling well on my stealth checks, or they've spent to much time getting high to notice me. Either way, I'll be departing from this oddly peaceful place in the underdark soon, as much as I would love to stay in the name of gathering knowledge. I should leave, as a human im essentially an invasive species in this place. I wouldn't want them to discover me and end up disturbing the delicate balance of their ecosystem. But for now I shall rest for a little while. Tomorrow I return to my search for kua-toa... Hey everybody! Welcome to this week's short rest! Where I deliver unto all of you, one of them most important messages... the message of love! I'll keep my message short, but just know this. When your feeling like shitaki, and a virus is going around infecting people like the myconoids fungal spores, that I will love you. There is never to mush room in my heart for love for all of you! And yes, I know my puns are great, I'm a rather fungi aren't i? Now let us finish off this week's comment my friends. I wasn't expecting more fungus so soon, but hey I'm not complaining. As always you guys have given me my weekly fix. This episode brought me higer than a melding myconoid. Hmm, that should be an expression. Anyway good job guys. Also don't think I didn't notice that new pfp, I see that's a giant in honor of the year of the big guy. Its a well drawn picture, though I can't deny I preferred the original profile picture since im partial to dragons. Or at least I assume the previous was the original. Its the one that has been the pfp since I started watching. Anyway that's about it, see you two next week ok? And stay safe with the virus going around!
I have a human player raised by myconids, the mushroomyness rubbed off on him a bit. He's basically a stoned druid that uses spores as a vision inducing drug he can use to tell the future or astral project.
There's a youtuber that made a fungal Beholder called a "weird trip" (i might be miss remembering the name) But imagine a fungal Beholder taking part in the mind melds to control all the mycanids and use them for its own desires
Hahaha, that is terrifying considering that Beholder dreams become reality! That actually sounds like how I would explain a myconid beholder's existence; dreamed into existance by a beholder stupid enough to let his dreams be altered by a mushroom men drug trip
Naloxone. Also it doesnt reverse the drugs effects, it just suppresses it for about half an hour. After that the effects come back, it just gives you time to get to the ER. Don't take too much heroine.
Now I imagine a bunch mushroom boys trying to drag their kite high friend away from a fight, telling him to chill, because it hurts to become a king, and then he can't get high anymore and he's like " I don't give a fuk bro, let me go!" We're talking Jersey Shore mushroom Boyz right here
I love the Myconid. They may be my favorite good guys. Guys. The monsters from Explorer's Guide called Aerion Hunters and Core Spawn. They are awesome. The vestiges, magic items, subclasses, and spells are just as fun. Lots of player content and good content for DMs. The marsh adventure in Explorer's Guide can be an alternate adventure in GoSM, and you could use Myconids in the Hoolmarshes
This is helping me a lot with creating my myconid character😊. I was going to go Druid circle of spores, because, obvious, but after a second look, I thought that Bard college of glamour actually does a better job at emulating all but the beautiful and powerful myconid spore effects that I wanted(especially since I wanted to make a benevolent support focused character). I can finaly take a necromancy spell with magical secrets to emulate the effect that I'm missing
You guys put me in a great mood with all the new episodes! Thank you so much!
No puns. These guys are too awesome. Nothing can cap them.
Yeah, they are definitely more of the funguys. They really grow on me
I'm already out of fungus puns thanks to the zuggtmoy episode. And I'm to lazy to look up more.
@@DragonGunzDorian yeah, that's my problem too. I was going to make a pun about their villages but I think I'll have to circle back around to it
@@DragonGunzDorian I totally thought of you when I stole the fungi pun again. Hehehehe.
What matters is you're here!
Ashen Wuss eh, at this point it's up for grabs anyway. I even used the fungi pun in my own comment along with some other reused mushroom puns.
Great episode, love these guys. So much can be done with them as inspiration.

Well now I know exactly what to populate my edge of the underdark/sewer map with, thanks for the amazing ideas as always Will and Brian!
I love everything about this. My druid has a special pouch with hallucinatory mushrooms in it, so i think Dresden would like them!

Myconids are vulnerable to narcan 😂
Yes. My favorite underdark creatures. Keep making amazing content guys!
Also the book you were talking about is the Theros setting. It is based on greek mythology and was the setting for a resent set they printed.
I worship the underdark sandwich
hey Guys keep up the good work, if my country currency hasnt so shit i whould be part of your patreon.

great video guys
Nurse-"Doctor, he took too many drugs, what do we do?!" Doctor-"Get this man more drugs, STAT!" Doctor- "The only cure for drugs is more drugs!"
After the break 9:35
Now I am gonna add a Myconid colony to my campaign so my party can get high with them...
This is the only proper way to introduce myconids to your game😂
Now I imagine a bunch mushroom boys trying to drag their kite high friend away from a fight, telling him to chill, because it hurts to become a king, and then he can't get high anymore and he's like " I don't give a fuk bro, let me go!" We're talking Jersey Shore mushroom Boyz right here
Geeeeeettttt FISTED!
I wish they were a legitimate official playable race
🔥🖤🔥
There’s actually just two wizard subclasses and one fighter subclass
I love the Myconid. They may be my favorite good guys.

I so don't like Critical roll and I am so glad you guys don't care for it, you have reaffirmed my faith in human nature, thank you!
Chromagil be hungry or dead
primordial chaos this is exactly what I was looking for

So are all myconids secretly serving the fungus demon lord lol I'm trying to decide if I should kill them in bg3 or if myconids lives matter.
grecocast?
Aww man, that part was so funny when they made 9000 drug jokes. It definitely didn't get old after the 14th time.
Imagine playing Sugar by System Of a Down when when it's your Myconid PC turn for action.
