Pfft good grief. You know when owls are seen as majestic and all knowing in some religions? Imagine that being a pet/ familiar of worshippers of knowledge Or kenku styled but as people. And owl bears
Love the owlbear design. One of my favorite monster/beasts. You guys should take a look at the video game Dauntless. It’s kinda like Monster Hunter. One monster there called the Shrike is basically a giant flying owlbear.
Thank you for talking about Owlbears! They're my favorite D&D creature! I honestly don't think I could bring myself to kill one if there was any way to avoid it.
Don't tell my players. I'm making an adventure for them where a mad Wizard is experimenting on owlbears to improve them somehow. Anything you say in this episode can and will be used against them.
Maybe have a swarm of bear faced owls attack them, or have the wizard combine bears with other types of birds to create owlbear subspecies. Maybe an emaciated ravenbear or something. Just an idea.
Flamebear: imbued with the elemental ferocity of fire, this owl bear is immune to all fire damage, and deals an extra 1d6 fire damage on its attacks, as well as dealing 1d6 fire damage to any creature that hits it with a melee attack within five feet
Suggestion: Flamingobears, if the players don’t pass a Charisma saving throw they have disadvantage on attacks against the strange creatures and attacks against them have advantage as they cannot stop laughing.
I have liked and commented! I continue to serve the beary good dungeoncast! I must apologise milords, for there is no time for greetings and pleasantries this week. I must write down these notes and return to battle as soon as possible. Owlbears, I never payed them much heed as a boy. Though I was always aware of their existence, I had no idea they were so violent. I wonder if they actually serve any valuable purpose to the ecosystems of which they inhabit. I'm sure some inhabit the woods of these good lands, but I'll have to worry about keeping an eye on their population another day. For now I must return to the battle...milords I, I must apologise. I've made a grievous mistake. I began systematically hunting down all the slimes in the land to ensure they wouldn't cause any harm to our good people, with the help of some hired mercs we had slain so many, but we didn't have any idea that we would draw the ire of lord juiblex... Some how we managed to anger that fat lazy bloated demon! By slaying so many of his children we drew his wrath down upon the lands of knowledge and laughter. There are so many slimes, so many people devoured by their endless and ravenous hunger...I saw a mother dragged into a gelatinous cube in front of her child today. It wasn't pretty. I shall not mope nor fall to despair, I am a paladin of knowledge and laughter! And as long as I have faith in the two great lords, no amount of pathetic mindless slimes, oozes, or puddings will shake my faith nor stop me from unleashing righteous wrath and holy hell upon these foul creatures and that pathetic excuse of a demon lord! In the names of the lords of knowledge and laughter, to battle men! AAAAAAAAH!!! Hey everybody! Welcome to this week's short rest! Where I'm gonna talk about love! I'll keep it short this time around, and just say one thing. With everything going on in the world right now, you many of be able to touch or hug your fellow human beings, but I can send you a hug better than an owlbear's from this message. *hugs* Now have a good day, and stay safe all of ya. Yay new dungeoncast episode!. I feel the joy jiggles coming on! *jiggles with joy* Thanks for bringing us another episode guys. Always much appreciated. I'll be honest, part of me was hoping the winged owlbear would be an owl with the head of a bear. Tell me you wouldn't get freaked out by that coming at you. I would share ideas for homebrew owlbears, but honestly I can't think of anything good. Oh well, maybe next week. Anyway that's all for now. Have a good day will. Have a good day brian.
Oh also I forgot one thing. Imagine the following scene. The party is trying to sneak around an owlbear. They get past it and are behind it. Then someone steps on a stick... Suddenly the owlbear rises with shocking speed from its slumber, and stand on its hind legs. Then it's head just does a 180 and snaps around, only for its big round eyes to stare into the very souls of the party. Imagine the sheer horror of this. lol.
I just put this in discord... But after rewatching the Yeenoghu episode and you responding to a question about covering UA. I recommended having special guest Josh and jake cover it. He could also do maybe a geographical type history channel on fearun.
concerning the origins of the Owlbear: the monster manual's description on monstrosities says "Some are the results of magical experimentation gone awry (such as owlbears)" which would support the first theory of a wizard creating them.
(the books aren't always telling the "truth", they're telling a story or their settings version of events. That's why different books, settings, and editions have different lore.)
30 mins ago I sitting here thinking hmm 🤔 I bet a Dungeoncast vid is coming out today. I hope it comes out soon cause I want to go for a walk after my shower... finish my shower and here it is :-) sometimes life is fun lol
My character currently has a baby owlbear as a pet after a really good animal handling check. He’s my best friend and if he dies I will John Wicke the world
I believe the words of fey over the words of scholars because you summon and bind Long lived Fey in magic circles and force them to speak truth. Same with every native of the not-prime material plane
There also exists in 5e a Pocket Owlbear you can have as a familiar, just make a donation through Bart Carrol’s Extra Life page of $25 or more to get an official Adventurer’s League certificate with the stats. www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=401998
Druids should be able to wild shape into an Owlbear! WotC really dropped the ball on that one. It’s such an iconic D&D monster, and players would be so excited for it. What do you guys think?
Lesser known cousin to the owlbear: the bearowl. Basically just an owl with a bear's face
Pfft good grief. You know when owls are seen as majestic and all knowing in some religions?
Imagine that being a pet/ familiar of worshippers of knowledge
Or kenku styled but as people. And owl bears
I was once in a campaign where we had to fight an owlbear wearing a red sweater and we had to calm it by giving it a pot of honey. Oh bother.
Love the owlbear design. One of my favorite monster/beasts. You guys should take a look at the video game Dauntless. It’s kinda like Monster Hunter. One monster there called the Shrike is basically a giant flying owlbear.
I was looking for people that knew this XD
Thank you for talking about Owlbears! They're my favorite D&D creature! I honestly don't think I could bring myself to kill one if there was any way to avoid it.
"Raised by an owlbear!" - the most hilariously stupid thing I've heard today. :) Fun episode, guys.
Ask not for whom the bear hoots. It hoots for thee.

Woot woot, always makes my week when a new one drops!
Very cool cast guys. Thx
Great Work Guys. Keep it Up
Oh wow, I replayed when he says "Large Monstrosities" at 4:03 and EVERY TIME it activates my work phone
I would buy an owlbear hug me shirt
Why can't the origin just be that two druids in wildshape got really steamy?

Winged Owlbears... That's a word I can't wait to never say again.
concerning the origins of the Owlbear: the monster manual's description on monstrosities says "Some are the results of magical experimentation gone awry (such as owlbears)" which would support the first theory of a wizard creating them.
Probably an elf wizard
(the books aren't always telling the "truth", they're telling a story or their settings version of events. That's why different books, settings, and editions have different lore.)
(and also, the definitive origin/"truth" isn't always "known" in the lore)
Awesome!
The Owlbear is Taliesin Jaffe doing deep-voiced batman
I loved.him doing that in the Darrington Brigade.
I wasn't expecting these today. Yeet
Bear pro max

3.5 Had some awesome art for the owlbear that looked more agressive and terrifying
Winged Owlbears are just a Griffin Variation.
Bear Pro.
I fucking love you two so god damn much. I lost an arm to one of these bastards! Great episode boys.
Wait!! If owlbears don't produce milk that means they're not mammals!!!! They're birds!!!
HOOT GROWL! HOOT GROWL! HOOT GROWL!
Oh, second comment, just wanted to suggest that everyone looks up a shaved or bald bear. They're werewolves.
Thought you were exaggerating but yeah, those are werewolves.
@@dascientist8443 look up almost any animal with mange and be horrified.

wow guess you guys didnt find the Monk tradition called WAY OF THE OWLBEAR

How many takes on the intro?
Stop telling me when things have dark vision, just tell me when something DOESN'T have dark vision.
