- Here's the long awaited review of the Giesemann Aurora Hybrid LED & T5 fixture! I'm using four AT Coral Plus bulbs. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
Giesemann Aurora - 4x80w T5 & 4x75W LED
Maxspect Gyre XF250 | Jecod DCT8000 & DCS3000
Vertex Alpha 200 | JBL UV-c 36W | Teco TK500 Животные
Finally Man!!! I finally had time to check it out. amazing man keep up the good work!!! Really helps some of us out
Haha yeah it took some time, but here it is! Cheers, good to hear it helps!
Where did you get the add on to the tip of the return pump!
Ah good question! That's a "loc line" :) you should be able to find one at your LFS or online!
I'm considering getting one of these fixtures when I upgrade and your review was very thorough and enjoyable. I am almost convinced now.... 😉 Thank you for sharing. You also have a beautiful reef tank man. #dedication 👍
Ha good to hear I managed to "almost convince" you haha! You're welcome and thanks!!
Dutch Reefer If it was solely down to this review I would have already ordered it... you did a wonderful job of reviewing it. I've just watched so many reviews on kessil and hydra HD and this and that and DIY Hybrids..... confusion reigns haha. Where in the Netherlands are you based?
Haha thanks! Yeah there are so many lights it's dazzling! DIY hybrid can also work, in my previous tank I had two Maxspect Razor LED lights and four generic T5 bulbs next to it :).. I'm from the province called Flevoland!
Dutch Reefer I think I'm sold on this fixture... its gorgeous..
ah you are just 20 minutes away (south west of you) from one of my favourite places in the world. 👍 Awsome! 😆😆😉😉
I have been looking at this same light. Now I'm convinced that it's the one. I had a Geisemann Moonlight HQI T5 that was incredible quality.
Yup it is a great light indeed, best one I had so far!
Beautiful reef tank
Ordered it today. I really like the separation and angles of the T5s. They will get light under the shelf rocks for the discasomas and other low dwellers the still enjoy direct but gentle light.
Yeah the angle is great, it also helps to keep the light in your tank instead of in your living room hehe! Good luck with this light, I'm still using it and it's doing great!
Thanks for the review :D
You're welcome Nick, I hope you liked it!
So beautiful!
Thank you!
Looking amazing
Thank you Gil! :-D
Nice video!!!
Great, great reefer and better person
Aww that's very kind, thank you very much J!!!
Super tank. 👌 ..
Would you still recommend these lights in 2021. I am planning a new reef tank and was thinking of these lights over 150cm tank. I am looking at 1200mm model as I like to mount it high for ease of maintenance.
The bigger model will make some light spill if I put it high.
Let me know your thoughts
Thanks
Nice 👍
So is this considered a T5 with led supplement or a LED with T5 supplement? How have you programmed the unit as the combination of the LED's and T5's can produce over 1000 Par from what I've read on these units. Lastly, whats the overall length on this model? Thanks
It's a hybrid so both 50.50, also in Watt it's 320 T5 vs 300 LED. I am using it more as a T5 with complementary LED since I'm only using the blue LED. The length is exactly 150cm!
Great tank. Curious - how long have you had your Copperband Butterfly and is it Australian or regular? Thanks
Thanks Josh! I have had it since November 2014, so little over 3 years now. I'm not sure where it's from though!
It also looks like it’s snowing in your tank. Do you seed pods and if so how often? Are you feeding phytoplankton daily too?
Ah that might be little particles floating around, the sand sifter is a busy guy so he keeps stirring up the sand. I don't seed pods, and sometimes I use a bit of phyto from EasyReefs
does the LED flicker when you film with the smartphone at 240 fps?
I never tried that! Why are you asking?
Dutch Reefer because my GHL Mitras flicker. maybe you can test it?
Absoluitly perfect and perfect settings you are using! Cant stand blue all the time BUT Can you set it to day during the day and night at night and not stress corals. I know I hear set it and forget it but I am not sure whats meant by that. I messed with my current alot and have not had good success for that reason I am sure. very poor growth and colorization. The only thing I dont like is hanging from ceiling so I would have to get hubby to make a canopy to hide it unless we can figure out a way to mount that isnt hanging! I also love your coral selection. You have alot of the ones Ihave. I am more an lps person but also love softies as well. I do want o add some sps ontop though. May I ask what you keep your nitrates at Mine are from 5 to 10 but thats becuase its only a 10 gallon with no skimmer. Impossible to keep down with no skimmer inspite of weekly water changes and I cant dose nopox or vodka without a skimmer either
Great looking tank! Can I ask how high you hang the light from the water line?
Hi Nick, thanks! The light is about 15-20cm above the water line :)
Are the T5’s powered inner lamps and outer lamps or left side lamps and right side lamps?
They're outer-inner!
Great vid. Looking at this exact unit. What made you choose this over the ATI Led T5 hybrid?
Hi Matt, thanks! At the time the ATI just got released and was a lot more expensive. I could pick this one up at half retail price from a guy I knew who had it at a customer for less than a year. So that's why I chose this one! Would definitely consider the ATI as well if I had to choose again and the prices were the same :-)
Dutch Reefer thanks
What do you think on the new Giesemann Gemini? Biggest difference looks like to be non dimmable T5, do you think it is so important? ( in you settimgs looks like they go full in just 1 hour or so) thankss
I have see some stuff about it but never in real life, it looks great though. Dimmable T5 is a nice gimmick but I wouldn't mind if they were just on/off either since dimming is done with LED anyway. So I'd consider buying it if my Aurora broke down
Dutch Reefer Thanks for your answer I will buy the gemini then for the reefer 250 im purchasing!
hi mate could you tell me where you got the cylinders to replace your filter socks
Hi Graham yes of course: www.littleocean.co.uk/shop/crud-catcher-high-flow.html
Is the light heavy can I screw the hanging kit to the drywall or do I have to find wood on ceiling thanks
When you need to work on your tank can you raise the lights up
It's not super heavy but I wouldn't hang it from a drywall, wood is definitely better. And yeah using the clips I can move the light up and down
months already without a heater. Someone is selling a small 30 inch for 400.00 . I am considering it. I know its a great deal but about 7 or lots of things have me not knowing if I should or not. Does it put out a lot of heat? I live in florida and my tank stays 7 also When I upgrade to a bigger tank I cant use it! i may keep it for a frag or grow out tanks though just not sure, but I would imagine I would get faster growth with this combo! So far my corals wont grow! How has growth been for you the last year and a half?
I don't see any SPS Acros except for some Stylos, plates. Does this light have good success with SPS in general? Thanks
Ok, forget it. I see some Acros. How u like it for ur SPS colors?
Indeed I have very willt acro's since my nutrients are too high to keep acro's succesfully. The light is great though, also for SPS!
Wonderful tank. I use the same lamp over my tank. What kind of T5 do you use ATI or Giesemann? And what kind of colour are they?
Thanks! I'm using ATI Coral Plus bulbs, four of them!
Dutch Reefer
Thanks for your answer. I will try them in futre to.
I had no idea that coral plus gives such color pop and a natural look, most people use blue plus and I actually like this better. I wonder how maybe one blue plus or two would look though. I really cant tell its t5 though with coral plus alone! Someone has this one ebay for 1,00 OBO and its 48 inches. I dont need that size yet though, until I upgrade. Will it cover 24 inch wide. The one I am looking at is 48 l but I will be getting a 120 gallon I think and that will be 48 x 24
Great quality videos - what camera do you use?
Thank you! I'm using my Samsung Galaxy S8 to film all videos. I found that the lens is very good at taking shots (video and photo) with spot-on color representation. So it's not edited in any way, straight from the SD card to RUclips :)
Dutch Reefer it's doing a great job - I have the same phone but worse results! Lovely tank - I'm especially jealous of the copper band.
Oh that's really odd since I just shoot with standard settings... Ah yes the Copperband, had that lad for over three years now, such an amazing fish!
Thanks for that. There isn't loads of information out there compared go say the Radion. Having trouble deciding what to buy. Trouble is I'm going to need four of your fixture or equivalent 😲
Four of them will cost you dearly... Radions are also extremely nice and I think you can cover more area with less of them. Tough decision though, as t5 definitely is good for your corals
This makes me want to supplement T5s to my hydra 26 HDs
Haha you could try, I bet you will notice a difference on your corals after just a few weeks :)
Hi dear.
I have SPS dominant reef tank.
I have Giesemann Aurora hybrid with 4 bulb T5, as same as you.
but please, I need your advice.
I don't know which T5 combination is the best for me, I am looking for shining and strengthening the colors of all coral.
which 4 bulb can you offer me to buy.
I mean which brand and which color for 4 bulbs.
thanks in advance.
Hello there! If you have the Aurora I can recommend my schedule, this is with four ATI Coral Plus bulbs in there! Here's my setup: imgur.com/a/LRMhHhv
Great video, beautifully aquascaped, who manufactured your tank?
Thank you very much! This is a Reefer 525XL made by Red Sea
Hi! What u feed your copperband and leopard wrasse....i just ordered them and notice they are really picky eater:3
Hi! I just feed them the same as every fish: Frozen Mysis and Krill, and they eat both. Also, Masstick by EasyReefs, every week once or twice
I will try when they get home, just heard the copperband just like to graze on the rock...tks...
Hmm I never have seen him graze on the rocks to be honest, although he does like to look for small creatures between them
Hey! Where did you get the drumfish?
Hi Jake, I got it at my LFS a year ago!
How many cm is the lighting unit above the aquarium?
Hi Wayne it's exactly 150cm
Thanks for that. Your aquarium looks amazing by the way and I appreciated your informative video. Cheers.
What kind of bulbs did you use?
I'm using four ATI Coral Plus bulbs!
Thank you. I’m just thinking about the same lamp. At the moment I’m using the Giesemann Matrixx II Dimtech. I’m satisfied with the T5 light in principle. But I’m not happy with the sound of ventilation of the Matrixx. How about your Hybrid? Is there an active cooling system. If yes: is it noisy? Best from HAMBURG!
What does the white led channel do
It also lights the tank, but it's a bit too bright for my taste! I might use it though when I upgrade my tank
@@DutchReefer No I mean does the white spectrum help with visual or growth. Which are the primary lights T-5 or LEDS? I have this light but not getting great color or growth. Hard to find right settings
Oh yes the white lights definitely help in both visual way (shimmer) and growth. However I found that the T5's are enough for growth I need and the color is nicer that way!
What are your settings?
These are my settings: i.imgur.com/ShMkNfY.png
Looking at your settings, where do you have the whites at? Thanks
Any way to send the light settings file?
Hmm i don't know if I can send it, but here's a screenshot! i.imgur.com/ShMkNfY.png
Dutch Reefer appreciate it!
How did you get such a discount?
It was second hand so that's why :)
Dutch Reefer thanks for the great idea I've been looking for one of these!
It's a shame Giesemann got so close to get it right, but failed by not using dense matrix leds and instead went with a bunch of leds on pads, which result in very artificial looking shimmer. I also think they have the led/T5 ratio wrong, the T5 makes the shimmer way too subtle.
Hi are those lights available to the USA
Hi I think they are, not sure where though
Yes they are, I have the 48" Aurora
higorc hi where did you get the 48 I can't find one
Bulk Reef Supply has them
higorc thank you
there's no shimmer?
If you use a lot of LED then there is a shimmer, but I'm using just a little LED so little shimmer indeed
So shimmer is possible.
Yes most definitely!
