    Livin large was full of objects that could be interacted with and that had multiple outcomes just based on chance.
    I think thats part of the charm that's been lost in ts4 expansions

    Having Drew Carey show up in House Party was a really strange event for us in Sweden. He's not very well-known over here, and when you put the mouse cursor over his sim, it said that he was a celebrity, but gave him a random female first name. Eventually, we just started calling him Göran Persson after the former prime minister that had a similar apperance. :,D

      That actually seems a little sloppy for the original Sims team, but sounds like it was for the most fun! Haha :D

    Makin' Magic was so good! Definitively a must-have. Even without the magic they added so much gardening, crafting, cooking, and community lot activities like rollercoasters and mini-golf.

    I LOVE Makin' Magic so much! It's my favorite expansion from any Sims game. Ever! And it's SO much fun! All of the expansions for TS1 are memorable and great, but Makin' Magic is my favorite by far!
    Great review for the expansions! I enjoyed hearing your take on them. ^_^

    My strat for a Sims 1 household is to have three adults. Two work and (if I want a challenge one is pursuing stardom) and the third Sim is busy networking and making magic. The most common spells I made were Get Happy, Relationship Boost, and Smiley Face and the charms I built the most were Mood Up. Needlessly to say maintaining the magic Sim was quite challenging but fun. The Vacation expansion was truly a vacation from the gaming loop using my strat 🤣.

    One reason Livin' Large is a must-have for anyone who intends to use any expansion pack is that installing it requires deleting all the created families in the original game -- it really sucked when I lost all the families and photo albums I created when I first installed the expansion pack.
    I think I got the game and all the expansion packs pretty much when they first came out, and still have them to this day (I even started playing it again recently after my interest once again resparked). Personally, I never bothered much with downtown areas, so I guess packs like Hot Date and Vacation were pretty much just extra stuff and maybe some optional features for me. I always liked selling the magical items for a money boost after they were automatically delivered when a house was brought up in Makin' Magic. Super Star had my favorite loading screen music. I liked the addition of pets in Unleashed -- I always liked how random strays would visit and the sims could pet them and even adopt them. I thought dogs and cats can be controlled (at least, the go here command) after they're adopted into families, though.
    I got The Sims 2 like the June after it was released, but didn't play it nearly as much because I felt a bit daunted after reading the sims could die from old age after enough time had passed, so I ended up procrastinating to the point of shying away from playing it more, and subsequently never got any of the expansion packs, so The Sims 2 without any expansions is the most recent iteration I've played to date. After watching LGR's videos, I've become curious about the expansions, particularly University and Open for Business, and am tempted to consider getting the bundle with the first six packs from the Mac store even though I still have the CD for the base game (for Windows).
    I didn't notice when The Sims 3 or 4 were released as I just never got into them, and I was always content to return to the first game -- I always played it for hours even when I returned to it years later (including now). From what I've heard and read, it sounds as if a lot of people don't consider them as good as the second game (I wonder why the first game isn't mentioned much -- did it not appeal to most people as much as the later games? If so, that's actually understandable, just curious.) I'm sort of wondering what I've missed out on. I do remember watching a hilarious live-action youtube video about The Sims 3 in 2007 (it seemed like a parody made in anticipation for the then yet-to-be-released sequel).

    I wholeheartedly agree about Hot Date, that and Makin' Magic are my favourite EP! The thing with TS1 is that NONE of them it's really bad, and all of them include different activities for everyone! (Like the camping fire in House Party, or baking in Makin' Magic); I would say Vacation is the one I use the least, although it is also true the later EPs depart more from the original idea of simulating life.

    • @loganshane
      @loganshane  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, great points! The Sims 1 is a great example where none of the expansions are really bad, especially because the base game is so minimal to begin with that it feels right. I would definitely say that all expansions build on the idea of simulating life, but the question of what can be counted changes when they start adding fictional lives (e.g. Makin' Magic). But heck, who doesn't love The Sims 1!
      Thanks for watching and commenting. :) I'm working on more videos as we speak and hope to discuss other games in the series in the same way.

      @@loganshane I love you're being so invested in The Sims and specially TS1!!! This game hasn't been as explored and talked about (in the Internet) as much as the other ones, so I find it really interesting when people talk about it!
      I has never thought it, but it's true: TS1 base game is really really basic, but in a good way, so they could make nearly everything they wanted with it. TS2 and specially TS3 have some limitations... and TS4 has been more and more limited with its expansions!

    The Sims 1 was such a huge part of my childhood: My sister, her best friend (that I was going to to play the game on her PC before I got a copy) my mom and I were playing it all the time.
    We had all the EP except... Makin' Magic and Unleashed, which seem to be the best EPs.
    What can I say? I feel robbed :')

    Makin' Magic is by far the best expansion sims ever got. Next is unleashed, because pets and old town. But Makin' Magic added an immense amount of content and gameplay. Including the best part: the ability to FINALLY AGE UP THOSE DAMN KIDS!!! 😱😱😱

    I also think Vacation was the least popular one, and its also known for bringing more lags/crash/corruption to the game
    However, this list isn't really 'possible' for Sims 1, since for eps to work correctly, you needed to install Sims 1, Livin Large & House Party (in that order) - these 3 were base for later ones with community lots
    Also Superstar would sometimes crash loading screen too, and only way to fix it was by adding Makin Magic

    • @edumeleroverdu8509
      @edumeleroverdu8509 2 года назад +2

      Aww yeah, every iteration of the game has had sloppy programming... at least they finished TS1 cycle with a somewhat stable game.

    Some expensionpacks add more value then you think, for example superstar adds some of the best objects in the game. Despite being a low tier, it still has some good value! Sims1 with all expansionpacks = best.

    Just found your channel, really enjoyed this video. The Sims was a favorite game of mine when I was in elementary school, still playing the Sims 4 to this day. Appreciate the time you took to make this video, really enjoyed it. I would have to agree on the tier list as well, living large was my favorite expansion. I used to fill my lot with genie lamps and rub them one after another.

    I am so used to playing the complete collection that all of the expansions feel like must-haves to me haha. That being said I definitely use Vacation the least. I just don’t feel like taking them on vacation is very exciting in Sims 1 because there’s essentially nothing they can do on a vacation lot that they can’t already do at home. So if I had to give up one pack, it would definitely be that one.

    • @loganshane
      @loganshane  3 года назад +1

      Ah! I love Vacation haha. They can do the snow and camping activities though plus it's great for Sims with less money (if you don't cheat lol).

    I just installed the complete collection edition and am very confused. I don't really like hot date, it became so frickin' hard to make friends, that I can't enjoy this any more.
    In the original, you just needed to talk and after a while make compliments and after another while exchange gifts. With hot date, when they talk, they start hating each other for some reason, you almost never can give compliments, it goes roght to flirting, which is not a good idea when they have a friendscore of about 15.
    Edit: and I don't like those fucking animals that screw over my sims lawn either. The 'house'-mood is always low when the sim is at work, which is why he seems to suck 😂

    • @loganshane
      @loganshane  3 года назад +3

      The double bar relationship system is difficult at first, but I think there's a chemistry aspect for those sims that just won't give a positive interaction.
      My best advice? Stick to only talking (no bragging or gossiping) and joking until you can get close to 50 on the top bar. If it's difficult on a community lot, it might be easier to invite them to your sim home. Then go home and call them up to chat (see if it helps). The fact of Hot Date is that you're probably not going to marry any sim in a day which is the point of the pack--dating!
      Re:pets -- the wild pets and animals ALWAYS ruin the grounds. But at least sometimes there are unexpected moments that come with that 😂

    I couldn't rank these because I think they are all absolutely necessary. I'd also put Superstar in the yes category because the luxury objects and karl lagerfeld and his fan were perfection lmao And I also remember the pink limo was major #goals for kid me. And also if you had the Makin Magic pack, you could do a cool spell with the rose the obsessed fan left you

    Is there a tool to organize the personalized content and MODS of the SIMS 1? 🤔

    • @loganshane
      @loganshane  3 года назад +1

      From my knowledge and research, there is no tool to organize CC and mods for The Sims 1. Someone could still create one if there's enough steam!
      For now, I would just keep a separate folder with all downloads organized into subfolders the same kinds of subfolders shown below.
      Mods and content goes into specific Program Files folders:
      Objects
      …\The Sims\Downloads
      Walls
