- There are many arguments about which diet is best for you.
Regardless, all camps agree that diets emphasizing fresh, whole ingredients and minimizing processed foods are superior for overall health.
The whole-foods, plant-based diet does just that, while also limiting or avoiding animal products.
So in this video, I'm taking a closer look at what it is and how you do it.

Have been on plant based diet for over a month. Can already testify it is really beneficial to your health!
Hey there! 🌱 This video is spot on! No matter which diet you follow, we can all agree that fresh, whole ingredients are the bomb for our health! The whole-foods, plant-based diet rocks by cutting out processed stuff and keeping animal products in check. Go green and feel amazing! 💚🥦 #HealthyEating #PlantBasedBeginner
Oh my God! I didn't see this video coming! I also follow a whole food plant-based lifestyle. I never thought some nutrition facts channel I decided to follow would promote this way of eating. Earned my respect!
Good talk. "Medical science is only in its infancy, yet it has shown that our natural diet is that which grows out of the ground. The people will gradually develop up to the condition of this natural food." ~ Baha'i Faith

@@wobblybobengland idli is made from white rice. So not a whole food

Better late than never from your channel! Thanks for highlighting this.
Minus the save the planet rhetoric, there was some good advise here. Thanks
Yea we don’t want to be saving the planet! 😂
"*Slightly* better choice for the planet?" Meat, dairy and egg production cause more greenhouse gasses than all of transportation combined! That is why the expert panel assigned by the UN urged mankind to switch to a plant based diet ASAP. You even documented the huge advantage of vegan diets to the environment! You don't have to choose between avoiding air transportation and eating a vegan diet. Otherwise, good video!
I mean that refers to factory farmed animals. Meat production that is grass fed helps the eco system reducing and reversing climate change. It also helps the soil which we are currently destroying…. Just so you know
@@johnbriggs6309 I am well aware of the claims you just made. Feel free to post quote and links to credible sources to back them up. I can do the same for refuting those claims. Grass fed cows take longer to reach slaughter weight, so they require more wasted resources, and produce a lot more methane meaning that they are worse for climate change than factory farmed cows.
"If you thought eating only "grass-fed" hamburgers could absolve you from climate change guilt, think again. There's a lack of evidence that livestock (such as cattle, sheep, and goats) dining on grassland has a lower carbon footprint than that fed on grains, as some environmentalists and "pro-pastoralists" claim, according to a new report by an international group of researchers led by the Food Climate Research Network (FCRN), based at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom."
www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/10/grass-fed-cows-won-t-save-climate-report-finds
@@someguy2135 great argument thank you!
I would like to ask a couple of questions though. When you referred to the carbon footprint of the cows in factory farms vs grass fed, does your factory farmed animals include the footprint of the food that was grown for them and the antibiotics that was forced down them as well? What I mean is the total cost of carbon footprint rather than just the cow.
I would find it hard to believe that the total output of factory farmed cows is better then grass fed. But please put the articals in a reply so I can devour them.
My next question is a bit strange but I would love to see the results.
How much of a carbon footprint does it take to grow veg compared to cows.
So let’s say broccoli. What is the carbon footprint for 1 million calories worth of broccoli.
And a cow produces around 1 million calories. And then use the carbon footprint for that.
A healthy adult male requires 2500 cals per day so what is the best bang for our buck when it comes to carbon emissions and calories.
(Not that I believe that we should just stick to one) They key for me is balance. We shouldn’t be eating as much meat as we do but we also shouldn’t be saying to eat none of it either.
But either way their are far more benefits for grass fed vs factory farmed.
@@johnbriggs6309 Thank you for saying that you found my reply to be a "great argument."
You also said- "I would find it hard to believe that the total output of factory farmed cows is better then grass fed. But please put the articles in a reply so I can devour them."
Since there are a lot more factory farmed cows than grass fed, I am sure you are right about the totals. The question is what would happen if you were to replace the factory farmed cows with grass fed. There is not enough grazing land to do it. The world wide demand is growing, as more people in China, for example, get prosperous enough to buy more meat.
I am happy for those cows who are able to graze prior to being killed, but the effect on our environment would be disastrous. The Amazon rain forest is already being intentionally burned to create more grazing land, as well as to grow soy to be used for animal agriculture. Animal ag is one of the leading causes of deforestation, both for grazing land, and to grow crops to feed them.
The methane produced by cows and other ruminants like sheep is 20-80 times more destructive for climate change than CO2.
"Methane has more than 80 times the warming power of carbon dioxide over the first 20 years after it reaches the atmosphere."

@@johnbriggs6309 I will need more time to address your other points. I am otherwise occupied at the moment.
Hello, you could said instead of not flying anymore that we as humans should stop with things we don’t need. That has a way bigger impact.
Do you need to fly around?
I thought Keto was hardcore... this is extreme but I will have a go as its the smart thing to do 😊
Is olive oil considered a processed oil?
i believe so. you can have it, but ideally not every day
Pretty much everything I love and enjoy I can't have on this diet lol 😂😂 😂😂 but if it means living longer why not
I agree. Here is a link to expert advice about how best to do it. www.pcrm.org/kickstartHome Be sure to eat extra food to compensate for the lower calorie density of whole plant foods. I have been WFPB for years now and feel so much younger that I will never go back. Not only will you live longer, but healthier.
Think of how your health is improving & you’ll feel so much better.
Your tastes will change
LIFE OVER PLEASURE
It should be quality of life you’re concerned with not length, you’re not going to live longer than everyone. ppl who treat their body badly and eat poorly will still outlive you. I personally don’t even know why people want to live so long anyway.
Is it possible that the health benefits derived from the plant based diets are mainly from eliminating processed and low quality foods? Especially given how many people in the West consume these foods and the "epidemic" of metabolic syndrome?
Hello 👋 I live in from India 🇮🇳
ok
I eat limited quantity of fish, eggs ,chicken ,meet and milk .plus plant base dite ..
😊that is it .
I'm with you on whole foods. I need to disagree on grains though. I went this route a couple of years ago and ended up fatter than ever. IF and a moderate keto-based diet have been particularly effective for me both physically and mentally--no more mood swings, down almost 50 lbs. in 6 months, and I was able to come off of my blood pressure meds.
According to the empirical data, you are the exception, while most people react the opposite way you did.
wow! well done!
Name a mammal that eats grain by its own accord. :-) Can you provide links to this empirical data? I've read many things that indicate quite the opposite of what you have written. Not looking for an argument; I want to learn.
@@tmc-bh1eo - if you look at the Loma Linda vegeterians, they studied the difference between meat eaters, reduced meat eaters, vegetarians, vegans etc, where all of the dataset were already healthy active non-smokers (because of their religious beliefs), thus avoiding confounders. The vegans ate the highest proportions of whole grains and were the ONLY diet category that had a healthy average BMI.
Also if you look at this summary from Greger, whole grains are among the healthiest foods on the planet due to the concentration of nutrients, particularly fibre which is a shortfall nutrient for over 90% of people.
ruclips.net/video/SnqVN56EjrM/видео.html
You may be putting all grains and grain products in the same boat, whereas whole grains are a world apart from processed grain products like bread and flour etc.
Can you tell me what do you eat per day ??
Nice🎉
It’s simple logic, look how strong a horse is, just by eating grass.
Herbivores get protein from bacteria
Are Beans/Tomatoes in a can/jar acceptable? What about frozen vegetables or oil free oatmilk from a package?
I watched another video that said canned and frozen are fine. It was a good video. I just stumbled on it.
is olive oil and coconut oil off the menu?
Extra-virgin, cold-pressed oils are minimally processed, so they are OK. In fact, they are necessary as many nutrients are absorbed better with fats.
@Random myths excess omega 6 compared to omega 3 cause inflammation and endothelial damage, so while oils should br limited there is no need to exclude them entierly
@skeptic boat pig It is only oxidized oils that cause inflammation. Fresh EVOO should not be a problem. But in the US most oil comes from Europe or South America so it is important to check the bottled date. When cooking with olive oil, you can add some rosemary or oregano to prevent oxidation.
@Random myths You're watching too much RUclips... We've been consuming olive oil for thousands of years and now some random guy come and tell us it is bad. Where did you learn all these things?
With regards to adding natural herbs to increase the stability of different oils see here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/ijfs.13526
A whole food plant based diet is just that, plants! No animal products, otherwise it's just a whole food diet
Can I still eat my favorite original Cheerios? 😢
Yes!
Well if somebody tells you to I don’t see why not
Animal products are higher in calories? Rly? 100g of meat is 100kcal, 100g of grains or legumes is ~370kcal.
LMAOOOO. Yes, they are typically higher in calories when you don’t cherry pick one or two of them
I know what is in it ?
Ahhhhhhhh now u guys are saying to go to a wfpb diet I thought we would be iron deficient? 🤣🤣
Good advice but , I plan on still flying..😂
I drink a glass of carrot juice everyday with 1 tablespoon of olive oil or flax seed oil
Is it good or bad ?
And 1 egg everyday for breakfast
Thats it?
You should probably add some fruits with breakfast ! You can have smoothies as substitute for carrot juice....oil is not essential though ! A single egg is not gonna hurt , unless if you wanna go on plant based... :)
I like that breakfast! I think I’d add celery, beets, and maybe kale to the juice.

I found out a lot of vegetables don’t like me
Shall we cook the vegetables or eat it raw sir?
Hi Daisy, here is a Healthline article that might be helpful! www.healthline.com/nutrition/raw-food-vs-cooked-food
@@HealthlineMedia Thank you 🙏
On Dr. Axe, Josh Reuben says vegetables should always be cooked. He healed himself of a chronic illness by his diet. For some reason, I dislike raw vegetables, and after being suggested Dr Gundry’s plant paradox diet by my holistic dentist, I am afraid of lectins that are not pressure cooked.
Can you talk about Stevia and agave?
Stevia leaves have been used by local people in Paraguay and Brazil for more than 1,000 years to sweeten the local beverage, yerba maté tea. Dried or fresh stevia leaves can be part of a whole food diet. Today I bought a little stevia plant 🙂
Often confused with vegan and vegetarian diets, but ofcause it ain’t cause animal products aren’t allowed (to that effect). What do you think a vegan is?? If you’ve EVER met a vegan, that eats meat…that person is NOT a vegan!!!
He is differentiating here between "whole foods, plant based" and "vegan"......A whole foods plant based diet consists of minimal processed foods.... People who say they are vegan can sometimes still end up eating a bunch of processed vegan food that is no good for anyone, and still think they're on the healthy boat because of the elimination of animal products...
Example.
A vegan may eat a ton of meat substitutes, vegan cookies, vegan chips, non dairy ice cream, etc....
Someone who is following the diet he's describing veers towards real and minimally processed foods.... Like beans, grains, fruits, veggies, seeds, etc.

What about plant base meats like beyond meat?
That's decent for protein 2 or so times a week. I wouldn't do it every day though.
Look up plant based protein... I also eat organic eggs for breakfast...
Plant based protein shakes!
Garden of life makes great chocolate protein...
He said no.
Not whole food
If tofurkey, etc. isn’t allowed, what about regular tofu and tempeh? Thanks!
These are minimally processed. I'd choose tempeh over tofu as it has the whole soybean in it and is fermented. Tofu is good but a lot of nutrition is lost in the processing.
@@brianmerkosky9243
I agree. Many people who decide to switch need to do so gradually to avoid giving up on the WFPB lifestyle. Tofurkey can help the transition on a temporary basis. It is better than most other fake meats, since it uses tofu and wheat gluten instead of isolated soy protein. Tempeh is better than tofu, but I eat both. Variety in a WFPB diet can be a challenge and tofu helps with that. So versatile!
Conventional agriculture produces more CO2 than animal farming (which accounts for about 2% of CO2 emissions, not a high number), because you don't allow CO2 to store in the soil by cultivating it every year
That’s wrong because you have to consider that the food for the animals has to be cultivated as well.
Wrong af
Lol
Talking about weight loss is not the goal of a PBWFD

Slightly better for the plant? I want what this guy is smoking.
Vegans arent plant based? What a hilarious thing to say.
It's totally logical, actually. Vegans can eat things like Oreos and sugary breakfast cereals. Those foods aren't made from animals, but they aren't whole-food, which is the healthier way to go.
No wonder people are so confused
Only people of limited intelligence seem to identify themselves as confused, and they are generally irrelevant.

hahaha lower in calories but you burn glucose with that blood sugar rollercoaster and you need to eat all the time
Blood sugar levels are stable, actually.
Fiber in whole plant foods slows the glucose absorption. Oatmeal, ground flax and nuts in the morning will keep you going until Lunchtime. Even if you add whole fruits.
