- Paintwork scratches in beloved classic cars, perhaps even in original paint? A horrible thought in deed. It's a cruel world and it does happen! I damaged my 87 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 and so did my customer his Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider (101). Smart paint repair and a blend paint job can be the remedy. It avoids having to throw another layer of paint on the car and helps to keep as much of it as possible original.

I guess time is exactly the point. All in all one doesn’t really save money doing it that way, it’s just a way to avoid layers and layers of paint.

@Fingers Thanks. Grand Prix White. The body had a lot of nicks to the galvanized metal I've been touching up and a few other light rust spots and your videos were very helpful. The roof paint is thin so overall the paint condition is not perfect but It's serviceable. As we know this era was single stage on all the solid colors and I'm sure it's seen many cut and polishes over the years. You know its also a bit funny. I'm 58 and grew up loving these cars through the 80's and the in your face whale tale was what I loved. It looks like my 82 911 SC was ordered with the front and rear spoiler option though I cannot tell the whale tail from the tea tray. Now that I'm older, I'm really liking the lines of the non rear spoiler back and soon after I bought the car this December, I found a good used plain rear used 911 SC deck lid in the same grand prix white for sale and bought it. I'm a bit of a stickler for originality but have been thinking of putting it on as soon as the weather warms a bit. I can of course always swap it back. I was a long time 928 owner and still own my 1979 which has the manual and limited slip which is a bit rare in the states. Around 2014 I got hooked on the air cooled 911.

Yes, these guns are great, still not without issues. They’re just too tiny to handle 2Component paint. The smallest inconsequence in cleaning them and they clog up.

Great work as ever! that's the good thing about solid colours, you can deal with minor damage. I once sold a car just because I could not stand looking at a chip in the door I just couldn't make go away... 3 stage pearl white, never again! 🙂

Fantastic and inspiring work! I was wondering if the polyester putty would be fine for leveling out paint chips prior to touch up or if there is another product more suited to very subtle defects. Incidentally I'm working with Guards Red also on my 2016 Cayman S. Walter looks amazing and the attention to detail is remarkable.

@@GreasyFingers I am observing that the there may be a watch diameter backlash. The new SD43 (43mm0 seems to trade on the secondary market for no premium whereas the new Sub (41mm )has a ~$2K premium

A soft transition with the airbrush is required …

Hi Johannes, beautiful video, as usual we are always spoilt...but could you please summarize the steps in painting that you took ? like, to feel the smoothness of the level of paint, you often touch it with your fingers...do you clean up afterwards these finger 'residus' with a degreaser, before applying paint or clearcoat ?

Ein guter weg für einen glatten übergang ist: keine kante zu kleben( alles offen lassen, dass der klarlacknebel nirgendwo hängen bleibt. Während der klarlack noch nicht abgelüftet ist ,,Standox smartblend" spray auf den übergang sprühen. Dieser glättet den nebel und sorgt für eine durchgehend glänzende fläche. Falls doch noch staubeinschlüsse vorhanden sind einfach schleifen und polieren.

Du lackierst ein 30cm lineal. Bei ca. 2cm ist deine Beschädigung:
Du schleifst von 0 bis 15cm (endschliff) mit 800er an. Von 15-20 schleifst du mit 2000er an.
Von 20-30polierst du mit einer schleifpaste.
Die ersten 5-7cm spritzt du basislack. Den 1.gang klarlack spritzt du bis ca 10-15cm
Den 2.Gang klarlack spritzt du exakt bis ende 20cm (der klarlack endet mit dem 2000er schliff/ deckt diesen aber geradeso komplett ab.
Der ,,smartblend" bildet den übergang von klarlack auf die polierte fläche, (ist eigtl eine extrem kurze verdünnung mit filmbildnern und glanzadditiven)
Smartblend läuft Schnell, kann aber mit einem heißluftfön schnell angetrocknet werden(da 1k produkt)

No, I don’t.
What I do on horizontal plane paint jobs is using transition spray, which is capable of resolving the underlaying paint and “melts” it together with the fresh one.
It tends to create rund though when used on a vertical plane.

It just so happens that I too am American but live only two hours due north of Landsberg am Lech! Now it also just so happens that two days ago there was a small and unfortunate door scratch given to us by a small child on my wife’s X3 at her work! Honestly I would be so thrilled to make your acquaintance and perhaps watch your work for an afternoon. I would serve you coffee or tea and happily just sweep the floors of your shop while I practice mein Deutsch! What do you say?!

bei meinem G-Modell hat die Türkante eine Delle von bis 3mm auf einer Länge von ca. 40mm.
Wagen ist mal mit leicht offener Türe zurückgerollt.🫣…nur leicht, aber Zack, da war war es passiert.
Ich möchte jetzt nicht die ganze Türe lackieren sondern nur die Schadstelle .
Wie würdest Du zunächst den sauberen Kantenverlauf wieder herstellen…Flüssigmetall, Zinn?

I plan to put a nice coat of dirt and dust over Walter as soon as possible, so I guess the polished parts won’t strike too much.
I had a Sand Scorcher and a Frog when I was a kid. When Tamiya re-released the Sand Scorcher ten years ago, I couldn’t resist and thankfully, my son had the right age to let me excite him.

There’s no camera settings that can solve the problem, I’ve tried them all. And as I have a daytime job, sometimes filming with artificial light is inevitable. I’m in touch with my landlord to get different lighting. I hope you enjoyed the 99% of the film that aren’t flickering.

I use a Fuji X-T4. With 4K 16:9 it offers 30 and 60 fps and I guess the bloody lamp fires with 60, so it’s either the resonance frequency or half of it.
It’s more that the filler will absorb water from behind , not from the painted side. Fibreglass filler is much better, with a skim of polyester on top.
Which means through the steel?
@@GreasyFingers if there is no weld or rust then polyester is fine. If there are tiny holes from rust repairs or welds then eventually water will get into the polyester and blow the repair out….that’s what I was trying to explain 👍🏻
@@GreasyFingers Even so, paint itself has micro pores, if you leave the car wet for prolonged periods or use a car cover ….then you will get issues on areas that have polyester filler ……with or without holes from behind.
Yeah, that’s clear, Simon. Applying it over holes is a no go.

Yeap. Before I made 1:1 car models, I made 1:12 bikes, 1:32 WW2 fighters and 1:48 jet fighters.

The side scrolling effects I’ve tried for the first time in deed. I started with the camera on top of the workshop trolley, but in the meantime bought a little camera wagon.
Filming the mug, believe it or not, was a coincidence. During editing I thought: why not doing my sponsor a favour and I let it in.
