Awesome, superb work Dylan! Who would have known, excel for sequencing. ;) Code junkie here too! I created a sequencer for iOS some time back. Timing is always an issue when coding sequencers, especially when you start adding multi track support. There were plenty of small seq code-samples out there on the web / github, but they all had similar timing issues. Ie. no pre-buffering of the sounds on the steps. So when Play was called on a step there was a small hickup before the sound actually played...especially when starting to have multiple tracks playing at the same time.
I re-wrote the code to pre-buffer steps (sounds) so when seq-playhead actually hit the beat, the sounds were already prepared to play = no stuttering or sync lag. In conclusion it basically means that the playhead is actually in the future (has look-ahead) to prepare sounds. You always want it to be as tight as possible. ;) Great work with your Excel sequencer Dylan! Looking forward to see where it goes.

@@DylanTallchief absolutely, haha, but oh so frustrating with sync lags when you start to expand and add functionality and realise a standard sample "play" function is not adequate anymore. Because the system needs "time to prepare" the actual sample play. Superb work!
bruh just multithread it with event timers and let the os do the mixing for the maximum dirty solution
@@drkastenbrot I solved it in the past my friend, the app is out on iOS obviously, I was just talking about issues one can come across by using open source code which isn't fully developed.
Even with multithread you need to pre-set the audio play streams ahead of time, or they will cause hickup as you start to add content.

dude...Making non temporary variables at the top is probably one of the most basic things. I always think of every variable i might need when i start a new scriot, declare them at the top, and have my main method below, and the smaller functions at the bottom. This was something i learned when i did work experiance. I kept accidentally making temporary variables, that couldn't be refernced in other parts of the script. I totally agree on the addicting part though. I make games, and it's so frustrating, that when you finally figure out what you did wrong, and your idea works, it feels so rewarding. Thats what make yo ukeep going.

Ah the moment when you realize you need to multithread. It happens fast. I remember my User Interface would lock up while anything was happening because it was all on the same thread. That makes it hard to hit the cancel button if something is taking too long...
Your solution is good and efficient, you took advantage of an existing, separately threaded, timer process. This is awesome. Thanks for breaking it down.
