Absolutely deserved though, and I can only imagine how great it feels to have something you worked so hard on legitimately get the recognition it deserves. What an inspiration.
The most crazy part about it is that it isn't just the most elaborate music box. There is a need for the player to actively play the guitar, pull the correct levers at the correct time, and then there is intermission. This is not just a feat of engineering but also a true display of skill.

You know how sometimes, there are those channels you really like, but they don't upload much or you don't always get the notification and blah blah blah next thing you know "oh I forgot about this guy" Wintergatan is the embodiment of that (for the most part)...BUT, I love coming back to this from time to time and it reminds me to check in on the progress. It's so exciting knowing that even though *this* baaaarely works, it worked enough! and here we are 8 years later, 253 Million views, and we Want More! I'm glad the idea is evolving and being given the chance to live up to the potential. It's just a matter of figuring it out, and waiting.

The first time I watched this video I was only 14 years old and fortunately now that it has appeared again on my FY it has made me realize that the pleasurable feeling of listening to this song has not disappeared. That child who was passionate about music is still here, now at 21 years old, he has become a musician ironically. I'm a teacher and I showed my 6th graders this video to see how many musical instruments they could identify in the Marble Machine. They had a lot of fun and some of them decided to learn a new instrument! Your project opens minds, and make kids be more interested in making music and not only consuming it. It's hilarious because this was actually a one test run. He said the machine retired right after playing this song, as it just downright failed completely.

I was recommended this video today and felt emotional because we no londer talk, but also amazed once again about how this artist got this marble machine to work so beautifully.
The imperfection of the machine makes this video so much better. There's something poetic about the marbles rolling the on floor in the dark after the machine has just come to an end.
He is building a new marble machine that is flawless, and i think looking back at this video, those imperfections and the rackity sound of the wood makes the song much better.

In some ways, I still love this more than any future versions of the Marble Machine. The rawness of it, the marbles coming loose, the immediacy of it. Having watched the years of struggle to refine the idea, I'm wondering if something was lost in trying to make it perfect.
This is exactly how I feel. It’s so hard to put into words, but this version of the machine just has that charming, whimsical vibe. The imperfections are what makes it such a magical experience to hear it produce beautiful music. It feels as though it shouldn’t even be possible, and yet, somehow, each component just barely functions enough for the machine to work. A perfect version would be too clinical, it loses that charm and whimsy.
People looking at this is 2090-2120: so.... we did some gems and then it became some weird stuff and then we have some gamers who are famous and are crazy and uh...... yeah-

The thing that worries me about the Marble Machine X is all the clicking it does. I'm afraid it will ruin the melody. This machine was darn near silent.
Actually, MMX is much quieter compared to the OG Marble Machine. You can hear at different point in this recording the sound of all the gears meshing while MMX is near silent with the gears
I love the way the Brain works. The complexity behind this is not easy to even comprehend, speaking for myself, and for someone to come up with it is just an insane concept for me. Every time I watch this video it still blows me away in the same way it did when I watched it for the very first time. It reminds me of a Rube Goldberg machine but for music. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL

The thing is… this is a composite work, it took Martin a good… 60+ tries to get all the takes for this… however, he spent the next 6 years creating a better version of the mable machine and he got very far until transitioning to creating a tour ready Marble Machine Y, which is what he’s doing now

I remember when my music teacher showed this video to the class when I was in 5th grade. I was fascinated! The design, the marbles, the music everything was so magical and beautiful! This video was the reason that I enrolled in a music school. I was trying to find this video for years. It evokes so much emotion and memories! Great work! It’s a true musical masterpiece!

Still to this day I listen to this and am still impressed. This marble machine has been one of the most impressive and innovative music machines ever. I call this talent. Anybody can pick up and learn to play an instrument but one has true talent to not just play one; but to make an original for them to play an original song with.

In some ways, I still love this more than any future versions of the Marble Machine. The rawness of it, the marbles coming loose, the immediacy of it. Having watched the years of struggle to refine the idea, I'm wondering if something was lost in trying to make it perfect.

In some ways this clearly flawed machine impresses in how it managed to perform this feat, despite its flaws. Very human.
Nothing beats first love
This is exactly how I feel. It’s so hard to put into words, but this version of the machine just has that charming, whimsical vibe. The imperfections are what makes it such a magical experience to hear it produce beautiful music. It feels as though it shouldn’t even be possible, and yet, somehow, each component just barely functions enough for the machine to work. A perfect version would be too clinical, it loses that charm and whimsy.

Actually, MMX is much quieter compared to the OG Marble Machine. You can hear at different point in this recording the sound of all the gears meshing while MMX is near silent with the gears

The thing is… this is a composite work, it took Martin a good… 60+ tries to get all the takes for this… however, he spent the next 6 years creating a better version of the mable machine and he got very far until transitioning to creating a tour ready Marble Machine Y, which is what he’s doing now

Even if it did drop some marbles, that would have been a minor problem.
I remember when my music teacher showed this video to the class when I was in 5th grade. I was fascinated! The design, the marbles, the music everything was so magical and beautiful! This video was the reason that I enrolled in a music school. I was trying to find this video for years. It evokes so much emotion and memories! Great work! It’s a true musical masterpiece!

Still to this day I listen to this and am still impressed. This marble machine has been one of the most impressive and innovative music machines ever. I call this talent. Anybody can pick up and learn to play an instrument but one has true talent to not just play one; but to make an original for them to play an original song with.

Just imagine the amount of time and effort that went into building and tuning this machine just right so that it hits all the notes and doesn't spill marbles everywhere. Props to whole team! I honestly don't know which is more awesome; the intricacy of the machine, or the song it plays!
It was made by one man, the one playing it. I think he had some help here and there from one other, but it was just him for the most part.
and it IS spilling marbles. If you look closely on the wide shots you can see about 20-30 marbles rolling on the ground around the machine.
