      I know this is late, but I got a watch from my late father. And I tried finding out what it was and found you. You have gotten me into watches almost single handedly and I’ve already started collecting (seiko Prospex, and presage)
      You have taught me why watches are cool, how they work, and how to style them. Thank you for everything you do!

    As a professional mechanic, any G-Shock is the way to go. I have two in my collection and those are my go-to for when I’m doing any heavy or dirty work. Comfortable and utilitarian and not afraid to beat the crap out of it. I just couldn’t bring myself wear a Duro or a Seiko in the shop. Awesome video, I really like these videos where you teach the types of watches to wear in each situation while showing actual products.

    • @jonsonnenschein1253
      @jonsonnenschein1253 2 года назад +2

      I would agree. I used to mechanic and now work outside out of a bucket truck. G-Shock is the only watch I can wear for work that will take a beating. I still wrench on vehicles at home, and with my regular job, if I were to wear that Casio Duro or Seiko, I would have it torn to pieces in about a week.
      When I'm not working, I wear a couple different Tissot's and a business Seiko.

    • @WatchUnwind
      @WatchUnwind 2 года назад +2

      Smart. Never want to beat up a watch for no reason but G shocks are still awesome and are meant for the task. I work with kids and sometimes I’ll be like it’s a good day to wear my expensive watches to work and a hit will run up and hit my wrist with a toy or put my watch in their mouth

    Wow, that Mido! Much respect for their commitment to quality but I don't always find myself too drawn to their designs. This multifort looks like it could have cost ten times as much, easily my favourite from Mido, and one I would go for in the dressier every day style!

    Great series, Teddy. It would also be cool to see a series suggesting watches for specific activities/pastimes/pursuits (beyond the obvious big categories like diving). For example: I do a lot of motorcycle touring. On a two-week motorcycle trip, I tend to focus on the ride and the landscape and lose track of what day it is. So I find it helpful to wear a watch that’s quickly and easily legible, and that has a day/date display. Other considerations are size (it shouldn’t be too bulky under the sleeve of my jacket and glove gauntlets, but also shouldn’t be silly small on my big fat wrist), cost (don’t want to risk an expensive watch on a potentially adventurous trip), and lume (helpful to be able to read the watch in the tent in the middle of the night). I’ve ended up with a Hamilton Khaki King auto as my touring watch. For the smaller-wristed, a Seiko SNK would be a great choice. I’d love to see what suggestions come up for other kinds of everyday use cases.

    If the Casio Duro is too big for you and you want a "Multi-situational" "beater" you could get the Invicta 37.5mm prodiver for less than $60. It's very slim, the case is actually somewhat more retro style and less submariner/oystercase, has a solid link bracelet (hollow end links and pressed clasp but its really nice for the price)

    • @vodizzzle
      @vodizzzle 2 года назад +1

      Isnt it better to just not wear a watch and save up the 60 bucks for a proper watch instead of wearing an Invicta?

    powermatic 80 is a great choice because essentially when you're in the office you're working a lot around computers and I've noticed in my own personal experience that some of my watches that don't have a silicone hair string become magnetized. It's such a fresh breath of air not having to worry about that with my omega and Tissot

    The Seiko SARB035 is my all-purpose dressed up and office watch. Neutral white dial, a minimalist-but-elegant sculpted case design, reasonable water resistance, and 38mm, so it’s the perfect dress watch size for my wrist. If I can go a bit more casual, then I’ll wear my white no-date Zodiac Super Sea Wolf on a Jubilee-style bracelet.

    - dressy-Monday
    - vintage-Wednesday
    - casual/tool watch-Friday
    ... and finally I just keep that routine at home or I won’t wear much my watches.

    I’ve been rocking my Hamilton aviation khaki pilot “cooper” these days whenever I pop into the office (shirt/tie) and as a daily while I work. Great all rounder and fits under a cuff. As long as you don’t have tiny wrists it doesn’t wear big and is very functional w/its day/date complication. The datejust only comes out for more formal occasions, but in general for a daily I don’t feel like I should be wearing a much “higher end” watch than my boss as a rule of thumb.

    Tissot Gentleman's Powermatic 80 is a good everyday driver choice, however, I think you missed out on the 1-watch collection ---> Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. I have 8 watches in my collection, including the aforementioned Tissot, a Breitling, a Hamilton Batman Diver as well as some Orient and Seiko Presage /5 choices, however, since I've gotten the Omega about 3 years ago - all others collect dust and have not been worn. I wear the Omega (on the stainless steel bracelet - w/blue dial) everywhere. Office, at home, evening out, golfing, swimming, hiking, biking, skiing... It'd such a comfortable, versatile and easy wear - and tough as nails. IMHO, it can't be beaten for price/value and sadly, missing from this video.

    You should have a look at the Seiko Alpinist remake, the only Prospex having no diver's look. The SPB289J1 looks stunning, for instance. Also, for static jobs, Quartz movements might be a good option, so any high-end option here?

    A Rolex Datejust 16220 is my go-to for the office, formal events and also casual wear. I switch between a jubilee bracelet and leather straps, even a leather Nato. It is very versatile!
    For outdoors acticities etc I use my Steinhart Military, Smiths Everest or my Gshock 5000.

      Can’t go wrong with a Datejust for any situation. I just picked up an OP which is obviously pretty close to a DJ minus the date and I have had it on wrist non stop

    Love all your content, Teddy! Which watch were you wearing in this video? Looked interesting. Maybe you should also talk about the watch you’re wearing at the end of every video!

    Because I'm always on Zoom I really pay attention to the watch. I usually stick to bracelet for that reason as well.

    Teddy, may I recommend a video talking watches for jobs that shoot the gap between very rugged and very professional use? I know you allude to this often, but it would be cool to see some very specific examples some times too! I’m a fighter pilot in the Air Force, and in the cockpit my watches need to be matte styles, very strong, and easy to use. Other jobs I could see looking for the same thing as me could be other military jobs that work outside, a construction project manager who does both job site work with blue collar types and more formal business meetings, or even just someone who spends a lot of time working on their house after work or doing woodwork in the garage and doesn’t want to baby their timepiece. For my job outside the cockpit, you are an officer wearing an olive drab flight suit and leading airmen. Your watches need to match this unchangeable outfit and I try to shy away from anything blatantly “rich guy” (think a modern Rolex sub in it’s obvious, flashy splendor as a no go for most of us). Finally, we love heritage, and obviously have lives outside of work where we can wear whatever we want. An IWC Big Pilot 43 in black looks like a dead ringer for me, I also have an Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot that works great for this. At night or if I am going straight from the gym to fly, I wear a Garmin Fenix 6 that is frankly the most practical option due to hacking and lighting, but is very annoying to have to charge. I also wear a Tudor Black Bay 58 on days I’m not flying, but it doesn’t really fit the part in uniform so I wear it on off days more often. The Sinn U-1 (although not aviation based) would be a legit option too I bet. Hope this gets the wheels turning and is an interesting subject, these are obviously my thoughts and I’m interested in anyone else’s opinion!

    When Work-From-Home started at the beginning of the pandemic, I stopped wearing watches altogether. Then I eventually forced myself to wear a watch at home and I bought a square G-shock which I have been wearing every day since. Who knows how I'll feel when I eventually go back to the office.

    What you said about the JLC Polaris, I feel about the Zenith Defy, especially the new Skyline with the starred dials.
    I love that you didn’t go for the obvious Submariner/Speedmaster/Reverso/Tank etc…

      I used to work at two different vape shops (ASM at one store and SM at another) and no way would I feel comfortable wearing an Oris or Omega to work... I'd be afraid that I would too soon be parted with them forcefully...

    I think for watch collection people are (assuming a possibility in budget and saving) going to end up buying from a list of maybe ten watches among them: A rolex datejust or a submariner, a patek phillipe calatrave, omega seamaster, omega speedmaster, ap royal oak, cartier santos, cartier tank

      I’d say 90% of the people that watch these videos aren’t going to be able to save up that much. I’m lucky enough to own a Rolex and an omega but in this hobby there is a pretty big distortion of reality in terms of what most people make per year

    First, wearing a watch makes you look smart. Second, in my cohort, as IT guys, we tend to wear the Apple iWatch followed by Casio. A small number do wear high-end watches. They fall into inheritance or watch savvy buckets. In addition, I notice that ladies look at the guy's shoes and move upwards and if they see a watch, that's a plus. So definitely wear a watch.
