DJI Mavic Mini or Spark? - Should you still buy the DJI Spark?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 дек 2019
- The DJI Spark has many more Pro features than the Mavic Mini (like flight modes, Active Track, Obstacle Avoidance, Gesture Mode). The Mavic Mini was only created due to the demand for a drone under 250 grams, therefore it has minimal features due to weight restrictions. So which drone is right for you? Well, the Spark is discontinued, so only buy it if you can get it for less than the price of the Mavic Mini.

Thank you for braving the cold. To my untrained eye it appears the Mini presented much better detail..
Such a cool channel. None of the extra talk and no blatant clickbait. Straight and to the point unbiased reviews and tests. Definetly subbed
Great job setting up and editing the comparison! You really gave folks a fantastic chance to compare these two distinctly different dji drones! Well done!
Mavic Mini footage is noticeably sharper. Such a good value drone. 90% of people dont need anything more
A great and unbiased comparison. There’s no denying the Mavic Mini is a very capable little craft but I would not replace my Spark with it. For one thing the sub-250g category is only temporary in the UK and the Mini will require registration after June 2020. The Mini does appear to have a slightly improved camera compared to the Spark however I personally don’t think it compensates for its lack of autonomous features. It will be interesting to see if any third party APPS will be available for the Mini. Currently I use SparkPro on iOS which provides waypoint capabilities and Pix4D for mapping and 3D modelling. I’ve also modded my Spark so it has access to more satellite constellations and is permanently in FCC mode, and as I use mainly in large open spaces I’ve not run into any range issues.
However with all that said would I recommend the Spark over the Mini? NO! The Spark has been discontinued so the only consumables, meaning batteries, are those already in the shops so this will limit its usable life. Again as it’s discontinued DJI’s lack lustre after sales support will be even less reliable. Unfortunately I don’t feel as though you buy from DJI but more likely lease,as you do with mobile phones, as their products are artificially classed as being obsolete and unserviceable to probably force the customer to replace so as to stay within the DJI ecosystem. Sorry, I got a bit ranty there. 😡
Regards
Nidge.
OKuusava Yes.
Tell me how ya really feel mate💚💚🤢
I’ll take the Mavic Mini any day. Video seems to be much better. Thanks for a great video
The return to case function on the Mini is very impressive lol, Great video as always.
Thank you.
Apparently another hidden DJI feature . :-)
Thanks for that! I didn't know the Mavic mini doesn't have all Spark features...now I might change my mind which I was considering upgrade my Spark to the Mavic mini
Thanks, Cap'n. Excellent and timely review.
A great comparison video my friend. Love my Spark, may add a Mavic Mini soon to my fleet! Cheers buddy. Keep the great videos coming:)
I do a lot of still photography and love the automatic bracketing of the old Spark
You seems like a very friendly person!
Great review! One of the best i watched! Thank you
Wai Minz Thank you, very much appreciated.
I had finally purchased a new remote for my spark. So I am back in business. I missed flying that little guy.
Thank you, this has been very helpful.
Love your channel mate. 👍
Thank you
Good Job ...and thank you for comparing these two under the conditions of wind and low light.
Love the video comparison my drone brother. You always do an amazing job Sir. Keep up the good work. Thanks sooo much for sharing this great video with us brother. Me personally i love my Dji Spark and i am not to concern about the Dji Mavic Mini. Please keep those good videos coming. Have a great evening Captain 👨✈️. Thanks for all you do and please keep flying.
Hi captain drones 👍😎😁awesome thank you for your advice and great videos on drones ect. Been following for a while now but dont get to comment that often, so wishing you and friends a great Christmas and even better new year 2020. Much love bro from cold UK 🥶😱
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
Perfect video! You helped me make up my mind!
The mini resolution and frame rate looked much smoother than the spark though i guess that's to be expected as the mini is the newer drone. The video looked better on both than i expected with the weather being so bad though. Thanks for the ongoing videos captain. Your the best 👍
Captain Shill!!!
Nice footage as usual thanks.
Great video, will hang on to my spark, love how sturdy it is and the fact I can do waypoint missions with the litchi app
I have the Spark and Litchio as well and plan on keeping for as long as it can fly. Speaking of which, I wonder how much longer will new batteries for the Spark be available? I've been watching the DJI store almost daily to see if the Spark battery is still available. Once it disappears I'm zipping over to B&H Photo to buy a new set.
@@mark_barrentine there's plenty available on amazon eBay etc and third party sites. Also alot of stores still have them. Well in my area anyway . Failing that in the future you could mod it to run another battery, a few videos around RUclips with that
Great video! Just what I needed to make up my mind, I already have a Spark, but will be getting the Mini as well!
Just subscribed :-)
Thank you & welcome to the channel!
After my first comment from our other channel, the wife has flown her Mavic Mini as I looked on and now I have one too!! Great little drone! Wouldn't trade it for 2 Sparks, IF I had to keep them! Also, another 👍 From here!
Very good comparison, Captain!!!
Good review and comparison. Thanks!
I have just ordered both. Mini is here, Spark is on the way. My next will be the Air 2. Love your honest reviews, thanks.
Awesome! Thank you!
Interesting comparison, thanks Cap'n - personally I prefer the Mini 👍
I bought a used (but new in package) spark off the internet, about a week before it was announced discontinued. However, got a remote and three batteries with it, plus an upgraded micro SD card and the spark charging station and it was STILL much cheaper than the mavic mini. Although the video looked better on the mini (obviously), I thought the video on the spark still looked very good. I'm keeping the spark and happy with that decision!
You do an excellent job of comparing drones! Thank you!
Thank you!
Perfect comparison 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Many thanks for your work
I"m a Spark owner and my only complaint is the fly time. I have three batteries though. I like the 30 min fly time of the mini, but the lack of fly modes like follow me active track are a deal breaker. The only difference in video I saw was exposure and that's easily brightened up in post. My video is choppy in yaw turns. I don't know if that's a function of not having the 3 axis gimbal or that's just the way drones operate. I haven't ever flown a higher end drone. I have my eye on the DJI Mavic 2 with the Hazanblad camera for my next drone. Either that or the Mavic Pro Platinum. I like to crop and zoom in post, so a 4k camera will make those edits a lot more clear. Thanks Captain for an excellent comparison video.
Love these videos !
Love your presentations! Sweet & Simple mini looks better but it is a trade off, updates will be a factor also although I hope the guidelines are like others? So spare parts have to be available for a reasonable time frame? Cheers mate🍻
good review ever you shot👍🏻
Thanks for this great comparison. I think I'll keep my Spark for now and wait until the Mini or some other name is released without the 249 grams limit and has the features the Spark has, like obstacle avoidance and flight patterns.
Cheers for the review, I still own a spark for travelling, 3 years on..I had privilege to fly mini couple of weeks back.. I lost Connection on the mini, countless times, yet return to home feature worked. Battery life is very good, yet build quality is a little cheap.. saying that its light, and easy to transport.. sparks are selling cheap, Buy fly more combo, as sparks battery is dire..
I'll probably go for mavic mini... 🤙🤙🤙
Thank you captain for sharing good ideas. Aloha!
Great and informative video! What was the song that was playing during the flight footage?
I’ll start by saying I am NOT a drone guy. I do however want a drone as a useful tool for filming youtube and social media videos!!
I think the Mavic mini really missed the mark in one area that made me end up buying the spark.
In this drone size, people are looking for portable convenience. Probably to film themselves doing cool activities, or on trips. The spark does this by being fast to launch, not even needing the remote, and it has active track.
The lack of Active track is the huge problem with the mavic mini. It makes its niche a grey area. The mini is supposed to “replace” the spark. Most likely it will be used as an entry level small, packable drone for selfie videos on hikes, or trips (just like the spark). But without active track, you need a whole other person to pilot the drone to film you (unless you want the subject matter to be you looking down at your phone controller.... I sure don’t).
So now the mini took away the convince of being a solo filmer and you need a whole other pilot. If I want to set up and truly film cinematic shots, then I’ll jump up to something more substantial like a mavic air, or pro. I understand that will require much more time and planning, but there is a time and a place.
I am a photographer, I use a dslr, I have remote shutters, filters, lenses, tripods etc. I can take beautiful photos, but setting up my equipment is NOT fast. For that reason I use my iPhone sometimes to take cool pics for Instagram. The images will not be as high quality, but at least it enabled me to capture what I may not have had time to because my professional equipment required too much time and planning.
I’m equating the spark to an iPhone camera, the air or pro to a dslr, but the mini is just like a point and shoot camera. It’s inbetween and not in a good way.
(If they simply gave the spark the mavic mini’s camera, gimbal, and battery, that would be the perfect upgrade . Forget about the 249g and make an ideal upgrade)
Thank you so much captain
30 mins of flight time
is what makes it a huge difference compare to Spark
Yes but spark have many features that mini doesnt have for example. Active track follow me. 3d obstacle avoidance só flight time doesnt matter without this features
Tbh i like the mavic mini more because of its simple instructions
@@Omar-cu3nl yes but it started bad it have motor overload problem its fall from the sky. Many people reported that i love my spark because its looks more professional that marvic mini its looks Simple
@@Omar-cu3nl by the way i have both of them I registered them in aviation to BE legal even marvic mini doesnt requare registration i did it
@THUNDER BOLT ENTERTAINMENT. Yes but nobody question who is better Marvic mini have better câmera better batery but had problems with motors i have them both they good in they way spark is selfie drone and have gestion Control obstacle avoidance also mini on other heand more filming drone 2.7k câmera and 30 min flight time assome because of luck of obsticale avoidance need to BE careful when fly you right they both awesome drones they way dji made and make awesome drones.
Awesome test 👍
It was pretty close, but the mavic mini had better video quality. Despite the wind both did good flying around. But this is how can see if they can handle it and they did 👍😀✈.it's too bad they couldn't just putt all the features of both into one.Now that would be a fantastic a awesome drone.
Thank you so much Steve and God bless you always. I hope you and your family will have a wonderful Christmas season.
Hello there my friend 🖐 that was a great "review comparison" 😁 Here the Spark is almost unavailable or it is a used one. My patience is put to the test but it is almost time for me to buy the MM. The advantage is that most adjustments have already been made with the updates. Patience, patience, patience will be fine !! For now have a nice day and keep them in the air. By the way, your 3d printed protectors for the Mini are Beautiful. Are these for sale somewhere? 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🖐🖐🖐
Had the Spark purchased the Mini less then a month ago, for me the Mavic Mini is the one if you fly with care you should not have problems.Few tweaks needed with the software from DJI for the Mini but overall Mini is the one.
Spark is more smooth to shoot video. The difference only is the battery flight timw but other pro featurea i will go to spark
I think I'll just keep my little Sparky for now. I still love the little guy!
For me,the mavic mini drone is my choice. Longer flight and better range.video quality is fantastic.
However the spark is a very choice and they are dependable. Thank you so much Steve and God bless you always✈😀🙏👋
Great comparison but does it make a decision easier for someone completely new ?
Sold my spark in may expecting a spark 2 in june. Got my money back I had spent 12 month before .... and stayed with a mavic 2 over the summer ... and missed the fast and easy launch spark ... got a tello to play around on the 200 qm roof in the winter and will get a chrismas mini fly more
From what I've heard, the mavic mini doesn't have camera tweaking features such as ISO and shutter speed adjustments that's why I chose the spark even if it's only on 1080p, I can even do long exposure shots, I don't think the mini can do that, though I might consider the mini 2 because of the ocusync 2.0, that's one of the cool features that I was looking for, anyways, good content as always cap, be safe.
MavicM has way better clarity on my 4K monitor. MavicM doesn't require FAA registration which is a BIG BONUS. MM is smaller in storage, lighter, and TWICE the flight time with 4X the range. Spark is old hat, with limited range. I rarely use intelligent fly modes, I wouldn't miss it. Remember, Spark doesn't come with a controller, that's $119 EXTRA! MM comes with a controller for $399. I recommend the MavicM.
thanks, it helps a lot!
Nice comparison cap! Hey but can you do a comparison with mavic air too?
Great video. Got my DJI Spark for $200 with 3 🔋 controller and case on Letgo app. Perfect Drone for a beginner like myself
I absolutely LOVE the mavic mini, and the current drone I have is a Contixo F18 I will try to convince my parents on getting the mavic mini when my other drone is broken or if I am getting really good at flying fast drones.
Nice nice comparison. 👍🏼
In a cloudy day I was pleased with both drone's quality. For my needs any of them would do. If they would both have the same fligh time I would probably take the spark but it is too much of a difference to not take into consideration. Where I live, the spark is also even more expensive than the mini.. so Mini it is.
still like the spark, just got it this summer and can't complain.
@itzcorrosive I have a white one, but want to get the red top to replace it
Ambos son geniales a su forma igual toca destacar que son drones de tiempos diferentes en los que la tecnología se desarrolló diferente aún así no dejan de ser geniales saludos desde Colombia 🤙🏽
Hi Captain can't wait for your review on the
Skydio 2.
It has been ordered, paid for but it has not even been shipped. Still sitting on the west coast.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 When you do get the S2 and controller I am very intrigued by the description for the zoom paddle and what the resulting "Zoomed" video will look like. Description from the controller manual: "The right paddle allows you to zoom in and out of the current view by commanding Skydio 2 to fly directly forwards or backwards in relation to the current camera pitch. When used in combination with the gimbal control and Boost feature, this allows for dramatic FPV style flying."
I have the mavic mini. Love it! ( As soon as I can figure out how to upload high quality video)
You forgot to mention that the spark do manual camera settings where the mini dont. But great video over all.
The mini does in photo mode, and it may have it soon in video mode.
i love your videos so much
Thank you!
Any chance of doing an doing an update this spring of 2021 with the mini and spark on a sunny warmer day? And perhaps doing a Mavic Air vs Mini 2
Captain tour best rivewer of drone video i like youre video 🥰
Obstacle avoidance has saved me more than once. =). And I’m starting to play with active track. Wish it could follow a ripping 25 mph MTB descent!!
Great comparo CD!
My experience is in windy conditions 25-30 kms you'll get the Spark back flying into the wind from say 500 meters whereas the Mini will struggle and all that great battery life will tank quickly. So all I can say is be careful of all those reviewers / influencers on RUclips saying how great it handles in the wind - it does... but probably won't fly back. Put the Spark in Sport mode an it rocks!
Hello from Mexico. Great videos !!. One question. I have a Spark and a Parrot Anafi. And I´m planning to do a video at the mountains near the sea. On a flight plan with the Parrot Anafi, how do I calculate the altitude on the way points? Do the take off spot is the reference?. Thank you, sorry about my english. Best regards.
Whatever height the drone is when it takes off counts as zero & the height you add for waypoints is from that zero take off point.
You can find the spark for a lot cheaper than the link shown here. Just search around a little. but anyway great vid captain
First drone I ever flew was a friend's Dromida Sync without a camera. I didn't care for it. I was given a RISE Archon shortly thereafter for Father's Day and I liked it better because of its view screen, GPS and a usable camera. Both flight times were not very good. Another friend Had a DJI Spark and while I could see potential in it, I really wasn't all that impressed. I then bought a JJRC X6 Aircus and after one flight, I wouldn't trade it for all three of the others. When the friend with the Sync decided to upgrade, I finally convinced him to buy a Yuneec Mantis Q. Now that one I did like, a lot! I would never have bought a Spark, Just didn't like it! Great review! Oh, the Wife just got herself a new drone so she could have one of her own to learn all about it, hopefully by herself. It is a DJI Mavic MIni Fly More package so that shows I am not just a Yuneec fanboy.
I like your video’s
I have both the Fimi X8 and the Mavic Mini, gotta say I love the ease of just grabbin the Mini and heading out just to mess around. Especially when I can charge it over USB. The Mini in sport mode is very fun when in wide open spaces and the cinematic mode is pretty good. But when it comes to quality of shot and features the Fimi beats the Mini. That being said, they both of their own use case scenarios. As far as follow me and the other flight modes most of that is software and maybe we will get them later after they have sold off their Spark inventory?
Spark is best for hiking as it has follow me option. The one for me to get , albeit on ebay refurbished fly more combo version
Omg.. winter.. at indonesia, still very hot and sometines rain with wind blowing up
Hi, great drones mini and spark too. What is the intro music?? Greetings from Hungary!
Thank you! The music comes from RUclips. I'll have to search the title.
If I had a Spark in that color I'd keep it for a back up to something Z-Pro or Z-2
Mini is cool and if is possible keep it for back up to Z1-Pro or Z-2 but The extras that make a Pro better more dialed in camera and not paper thin,
Winner optical avoidance 1080p beefer build, for Back up Captain I am backwards!I would love Mini if it were beefier and could really set camera up for different weather situations
Very good comparison. I think spark continues a fantastic drone due smart flygh. I have one, but I will buy Mavic mini to complete my DJI family Tello, Spark and Mini. Thanks
Great comparison, the one thing I will say is that I think the Spark holds up better in a crash. It's allot more heavy duty compared to the Mavic Mini.
Sparks built like a tank for sure.
Yeah I crashed mine into a tree and landed in three feet of water. Still flies like a champ.
What do you want, the mini is only 249 grams.
@@laurensholthof Sparks only 300. The fixed arms help for sure
Hell yea is does you get what you pay for
The Mavic Mini has been designed to be the most portable drone with good all round use. That is the reason why i have one on order.I have the Mavic pro and Spark but need a drone with ease of use and quick getting up into the sky that's why i have one coming.Yes the drone needs more features and i am sure DJI will develop this drone. Dji you need to keep updating this drone if you want the new generation of drone flyers to get bigger. Don't let us down.
Thanks for the comparison. Question? When you were flying the Mavic Mini what song was that? It was very cool choice tune.
Here you go: ruclips.net/video/5B7r2SY5W-M/видео.html
Or is it this one: ruclips.net/video/pGMojZB0Lm0/видео.html
Good job 👍👍👍
Thanks
The mini had better resolution, brighter...
Will be much better if two videos could put together in one frame so we can see the different between spark and mini.. anyway it was nice review.. subscribe! 👍
I'll keep my spark with 3 batteries thanks :)
Those green bands are a good idea, were do you get them from? Thanks.
They were 3D printed. Watch my 3D Printer Sapphire Pro video.
Someone tested the RTH on these drones, I think its 51 drones and when he calibrated the IMU and the compass the drones came back and landed right on the pad, like within 2 inches consistently when before he calibrated they landed like 2 meters away, like the results in this video. Mabe that is the thing, calibrating the IMU.
nice, I think they both have it's cons and pros. Truly Mini is amasing but I will not upgrade my spark yet. It's almost same quality footage (if you compare on the same screen with proper settings) so i think they are actually very close overall giving Mini a little more details, but on the other hand Spark much more manual control over the footage.. it's a tie. That's why Spark Prices still havent go down.. (yet)..
Long story short I am buying a iPad mini 5 to run my platinum and spark. When you have a moment can you throw out a couple of decent otg cables because I previously ran them on a Android Samsung tablet. Thanks. I know that there are dozens to choose from on Amazon BUT I don't know what brand to choose from
OTG stands for ON THE GO, which is another way of saying you want a cable that has power and data. Anything that says certified or has a thick vs thin cable should be good.
Nice Video
I think that the video settings on spark are more professional. But in Mexico is still expensive!
Almost everywhere I looked the Spark price went up after it was discontinued. It has all the good DJI navigation and flight tech the Mavic Mini does not but I do wish it had the flight time of the newer drone. Also the Mini does not require registration.
In all fairness, the Spark looked better when it was lower to the ground. I've had my Spark for almost a year and have had my issues, but I have found that if you calibrate all of your sensors at every new location, you get less than 8" RTH (Unless you switch flight modes more than 3 times... then it's more like your results) I really would like that 30 minute flight time, but I have the DJI Portable Charging Station to help offset that limitation. I also have a Mavic 2 Pro which handles the wind much better.
I always have second thoughts buying my first drone
Nice video as always
CannedSir Gaming for the money the Mavic Mini is a good starter drone, however it will, leave you wanting more lol
You can get a second hand or DJI refurb mavic pro for not a lot more.
You always do? How many first drones have you bought? Lol
David Winiger i buy drones by category i have water drones land drones and now i plan on buying air drones
David Winiger so far i have 2 “first drone” if that make sense
I really didnt notice a difference in video but i do like the spark more.
Both are fine drones.go with mini.?
Got very very lucky and managed to find a second-hand Spark with controller and stuff for 130USD, at that price point it's basically a no-brainer as it's even cheaper than a Bugs drone and SG drone :)
Captain, have you had any problems with your Mavic Mini as others are posting about lately? Do you think these problems are software or hardware related? Have you heard anything from DJI about solving these. issues? I was going to get the fly more package but thinking seriously about holding off to see if these problems persist or can be corrected by DJI.
Thanks for your input on this.
My MINI so far works great! The 2nd and 3rd firmware updates fixed plenty. Only issue I have heard is that some people who have certain Android phones with certain versions of Android have issues.
i choose spark for better build quality, plus spark has obstacle avoidance sensor..really helpfull when you fly..
On the DJI webite (US site) they aren't selling new Sparks anymore. Only refurbs so it seems.
