The internet is flooded with reviews where people just talk and talk without saying much in perfectly lit studios, using gestures and poses mimicing Hollywood stars, executing an overwritten script. Yours was very natural, getting straight to the point, sharing genuine information. Brilliant review without cliches. Thank you for it!
New subscriber but I recently found a mavic mini fly more package for a good price and got it partly because of this and some of your other videos. It is my first drone and hope it leads to upgrading into more advance DJI models in the future. Thank you for your videos and info!
Do yourself a favor and download the the DJI fly app first, ( to see if your phone is compatable) very few phones run that app and you may find out that this drone is going to cost you at least twice as much as you expect to pay when you have to buy a new phone just to fly this drone. I was about to buy one of these until I found out that the "android 6 or above" shtick was not quite true. Good luck everyone
1:25 Exactly! I have a Phantom that I really wanted to take to Japan with me but it's just too big. The earlier Mavics were too expensive. This one is crazy portable AND a reasonable price.
I just got a Mavic Mini. I subscribed to your channel some time ago upon knowing how informative and concise your videos are. Being new to drones, I am learning a lot from you. I reside in Brampton, Ontario.
Here's another reason: I fly professionally; I ordered a Mavic Mini to shoot indoors. It's great for that--doesn't balk due to safety sensors like the regular Mavics do when bopping around inside. Just another tool in the box.
Started watching your videos before I was interested in purchasing one. Now that I’m in the market I have watched a lot of review videos and your videos exceed them by far. Great presentation and lots of info.
I thoroughly enjoyed your review! I live in South Africa and expecting my Mavic Mini sometime this week - brand new to the hobby. I have watched just about every review on RUclips, but yours was very informative and you taught me something today. - Because it only records up to 2.7K 30fps, You only need a U1 Class 3 Micro SD Card. - DJI makes you update your batteries, so that only original DJI batteries work with the drone. - A drone does not like metal objects. Metal objects between the drone and the controller cause interference. - Really good explanation and demonstration on the different flight modes, particularly Cinematic Mode. - Battery Voltage, temperature & flight time - check on the phone, top right Thanks for making this video about he Mavic Mini, keep them coming!
I tip my hat off to your sir for going out in the cold and doing a review on the Mavic mini. I could tell it was cold because your hands were shaking at the beginning of the video when you were holding the mini. Great job and good to see how it performs in cold weather.
Thanks for braving the cold to get out this video. I say this watching from the AZ desert wearing a t-shirt and shorts. If you do some more Mini videos, it would be great to include a noise comparison with the Mavic Air and Mavic Pro 2. I initially did not think I would be interested in the Mini but your video now has me considering it. It looks like a nice flying machine in a small package.
I wanted to say thank you for running an amazing channel. Your videos are informative, entertaining and educational and give me all the info I could need. Thanks again and keep them coming :)
Great review. I have been loving flying mine (safely and responsibly) in the city in places where I can't fly my other drones. I hope people keep them away from airports so they don't ruin this for us Canadians!
What can i say? Another brilliant review from a drone master. Here in the UK same weight regulation and laws recently introduced. DJI at the leading edge in meeting the needs of the many. Looking forward to the next review. NigelG
Love this video. I had a phantom 3 standard. I loved it but sold it last year due to the regulations here in Canada. I use to make a few cinematic videos with it. Just curious would this drone be better quality both video quality and performance than the phantom 3 standard?
Been flying the HS165 for a little while now as my first ever introduction to the world of drones. Can’t wait to eventually pick this one up for shooting real cinematic shots! Fingers crossed for a sale on the Mavic Mini within the next year.
I waited for a brave reviewer who had the ball to call the quality feeling "cheap" and not "great" like most others did. Simply not possible with that weight.
For the price it's not going to be perfect, the frame does have a good bit a flex to absorb an impact but I can also see it snapping easily if pressed to hard
Cheap plastic, or LIGHT plastic. You can only make a vehicle so sturdy with 'high quality' parts if you don't have a specific weight goal. Honestly, I'd rather it look or feel cheap (Which, honestly, I don't think it does), but have quality internal components. Good camera, stable GPS, quiet rotors, good internals. What it looks or feels like on the outside is irrelevant. When I first picked up the drone (out of the box) I thought... man this feels cheap. But once I installed the battery, the weight of that made it feel more sturdy (at least gave it a bit of heft) The plastic on the outside is lightweight, but still textured, so I think we got the best of both worlds, given the goal of the whole thing,
@Albela Rahi There I will disagree with you. What you mean to say is.., "No point in BUYING something lighter that is not durable". If you're going to be flying and crashing your drone, then yes. You want a more durable drone. However, if you are buying a capable drone with good specs, but the goal is to get it under a certain weight threshold... then you have to understand that there are concessions that simply need to be made. Your Mavic 2 costs 3.5 times as much as the mavic mini, and is 2x the weight. That's what you needed, and it's a great drone. No question. But it doesn't satisfy the criteria that the Mavic Mini was built on. You can't say there's no point in making it... THere IS a point. To get a capable drone under 250 grams. If you need a super durable drone that's going to take a beating, and you don't need it to be under 250 grams, then buy buy the Mavic 2. If you need a sub 250g drone that is super durable, but you don't need the high quality video/photo capabilities, I'm sure there's one out there. But the Mavic Mini satisfies the goals and intentions to which it was built to satisfy. It's up to the buyer whether or not it is worth buying. For me, it absolutely was.
Enjoy your channel. The best reviews on youtube. Bought a hoodie today to support your channel. Looking forward to receiving potensic t18 tomorrow and flying with gps. Thanks again and dont freeze eh
I have purchased over the last decade about 10 drones. I also in the last decade have crashed 10 drones. (Including blow aways after the wind catches it just above the average house-roof-level, never to be seen again... Needless to say, I was torn between this, and the tiny go geprc you reviewed a ways back. I got my first flight in just today and I am absolutely pleased. I paid $400 second-hand, so hopefully I can still find someone to insure it for me like dji would. Already ordered the iPad attachment as well as carbon fiber props. Wish master air screw made the stealth props for the mini, but not yet. :( I really love (and trust) your videos. I’m into the hobby now, and I must say dji’s onboard avionics as well as the gps; I just am In love. Captain-you probably know what I mean when I mention how the cheap toy drones are very unstable, whereas dji is very stable. Any advice is welcome! :)
Finally yes yes I knew you would go straight to the point, thanks so much for the awesome and truthful review, and thanks for being out in that freezing weather, appreciate you for the sacrifice 👍
Very smart to wait🤓 I got my Mini last Friday, not able to use it because there is no self unlocking possible till at least end of December when DJI release the new firmware. I can’t even fly inside my house because it picks up gps signals 😡🤬🤬
That's how I feel. It seems they use the drone enthusiasts to do their field testing while making $$. I'm waiting until spring. Which means I'll get it by summer.
BTW....that 'area unsuitable for landing' warning seems to occur in several other reviews of the Mavic Mini. This may be something DJI will address in their next update as it makes no sense when the landing pad is exactly where it took off from and is clearly safe.
CAPTAIN DRONE im so worried about that issue sir about what they always complaining.. i was planning to buy the mavic mini after the lockdown here in the Philippines.. im always watching your videos and reviews sir.. more power and God bless.. tnx a lot!
Thanks for a great review and also a fantastic year of info, video’s, competitions etc. I have loved watching your seasons change :-) Also this Mavic Mini review has answered one of my key questions... Should I get this to have for travelling alongside my Mavic Air and I think I will :-) Please keep your reviews coming, thank you.
I like your videos captain! My mavic mini was delivered yesterday but it’s raining cats and dogs so I see it as an opportunity to watch your videos first =)
Why does everything think I used the DIY DJI Sticker???? This is a Captain Drone Vinyl stretch sticker. Weather resistant and light weight. Total weight of my drone with sticker is 249.6 grams.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank you for your reply. I will probably buy this drone in the near future. Like you said I hope people will be responsible when flying this drone. Otherwise this drone will be restricted as the same as the drone over 250 gr. By the way your sticker with your logo look very nice.
With regard to cameras. They're virtually identical between the Spark, Mini, and Mini 2. If you shoot in the Native Aspect Ratio (4:3) which allow the sensor to record the maximum number of pixels without alteration, you will have virtually identical results. IOW, the 'changes' in the newer drones are in the software, not the cameras themselves. And while it's nice to have some of these options for a quick and dirty post to RUclips, most users will eventually shoot in the native aspect ratio and do refinements for themselves on their computers anyway - especially if they are mixing footage between cameras. The 3 axis gimble and better battery-life are great additions to the newer drones, but at a loss of the more sophisticated electronics in the Spark. In many ways it remains the better beginner DJI drone for photography. It's 5 years on, Captain. Are you still using your Spark? I have a hunch you haven't retired it yet.
Been waiting so long for this review!! Other people may review drones, but I just want your review. Also, I hope the sticker doesn’t weigh more than a gram, as it would put your takeoff weight over 250g
Greetings from Memphis TN. My Mini is arriving this coming Tuesday. My first drone so I’m really looking forward to it. Glad to hear you say it is a great starter drone. Watching your channel and seeing your enthusiasm got me hooked. Thanks for braving the cold for this review !
@Lon Denard You maybe shouldve said that before marking people as kids, that being said: I found your comment funny and I was hoping you'd find mine funny too :) I think you're right, yet I think there are cases where RTH can be very useful and on top of that the beeping is annoying :P
The MAVIC AIR shoots video at a max of 2.7 K which means all you need is a 32 GIG U3 Micro SD card to capture video for several batteries. I use a 64 GIG U3 in mine. 128 Gig is only necessary if you have more than ten batteries of flight to film at once.
You really don't need a card that is that big. Even a 32gb is enough for continuous video for 30 minutes. I've gone through three batteries on one card, filiming almost the entire time and I don't think I've gotten more than 8gb of combine file size for the day. It's probably better that way so you're not tempted to keep your Xmas photos on that card. They really should be offloaded, backed up immediately, and then deleted for more space between each flight. DJI also recommends SD cards with a U3 rating, but a GOOD solid brand like Sandisk or Samsung with a U1 rating work just fine. The thing with SD cards and your Mini is that they'll work, or not. Just don't forget to TURN OFF THE VIDEO before powering down or your video file will be corrupted and unreadable.
@Lon Denard in many countries around the world you have to registrate your drone and pay for an insurance, when the drone is heavyer than 250g. Perhabs they do not have a libra, but when they have one and you don't have all you need, it could be expensive
@Lon Denard ... many police vehicles have scales for weighing drug quanities. The propeller guards clearly put you over the 250 g limit but not sure about the stickers. I have a photo of my mini on a scale, with a small sticker on it with my address, and it actually weighs 248 g with battery. I keep that photo in my binder that is with me when I fly.
Thank you for saying the honest truth from the beginning. None of this "oh it is built light weight" garbage that all the other reviews have been saying but that it straight up has a cheap feel to it. That said I am super impressed by the little drone still and will be most likely getting one for next summer's sailing season (for lighter winds obviously even though the drone can handle a good 8-10ms as seen from some other reviewers videos) and travelling etc.
Thanks for the frozen review Steve. I've been waiting for a decent beginers drone and I've been following you for some time now. Based on your past reviews (in my opinion all honest and unbiased by the way) and your thoughts on this one, I'll probably wait for a couple of firmware updates and pull the trigger on a Mini. Thanks for freezing your butt off for us.
Excellent review Captain!! I was waiting for you!!! As always!!, it would be a good idea to have a match between Fimi X8 and the mavic mini, just because the price, I know boths are different drones, but I would like to see that, some of us consider very important what would be the best drone that I can buy with $500.00, that would be a very good title, or maybe you consider another one than the X8. Thanks for your work!! Im still undecided wich would be the best to spend that kind of money, or should save more $ and go for the mavic air?.
You can legally fly the mini more places (assuming dji’s app with its NFZ don’t get in the way) and it’s smaller so more convenient for travel. The fimi on the other hand has 4k video and is really good for the price. It’s the same Sony camera and gimbal as the mavic pro 1, just without the front sensors (which don’t work in a ton of modes anyways) so half the price of a mavic 1 pro pretty good deal. Personally wouldn’t bother with the air at this point unless you just really want dji.
Can't trust the x8 props, I was at 270 feet in sport mode and had a prop explode, tore 3 arms off. Great drone just don't fly it in sport mode, faulty props.
@@ageranger1541 thanks!!, do you know, is this is a common problem on the model?? Or is the first time you know about the problem with your experience?
The gimbal vibration is very serious on the effect of lower temprature and machine structure, maybe there is a new firmware on the way to optimize this lower temperature case(but the lower temperature effect dose exactly exist, there is no solution to eliminate it).best!
lol reminds me of stupid gun regulations in California. "Can't have XYZ cosmetic features on a rifle or it's an assault rifle", remove said features to comply with the law "OMG you are circumventing the law, we need to change it now!"
@@kielhawkins9529 as a matter of fact .....it's dark here and I'm gonna take up my Spark and have a nice fligh and not hurt a damn thing while the drone police are crying about my comment!!!!
Checking in Cap! Just got the fly more bundle today! I currently have the Bugs 5W which I still love and may use in very windy days. Great review watched it at least 5 times. Peace!
This review puts the icing on my cake! As always thank you for the review. DJI customer service after the sale is better then other manufactures/sellers? Btw what is 40g orange kid drone?
I'd love to add one of these to take with my mavic air...and our laws here in Ontario are rediculous they want you to be a commercial pilot thank God I passed the test...second try 😂 anyway great vid as usual keep up the amazing work!

I think regulations here make the difference at 2Kg for recreational/professional use. The difference between >250gr and
The 250gram maxim weight limitation in the regulations was not picked out of thin air it was based on 50% MOS x KE required to damage aircraft structures as specified by FAA.
Might be.. but strangely enough other European countries have put the min weight at 500gr.. which fits much more smaller drones than Canadian regulations.
Captain Steve..Hello! Just a note to say thanks for helping resolve my issue with the Mavic Mini. Anyone with an LG V20 phone, when reloading the fly more app, do not allow the USB go to default. That was my issue all along. Hope that helps others. Thanks, and have a great holiday season. Philip
i bought the mavic mini and as soon as i did the auto take off and within 2 seconds the drone flew away automatically and crashed (on my first flight outdoor). anyone knows why this would happen ? i gave it back to the authorized re seller Nd he is currently checking with DJI if the damages could be covered under warranty
Steve you must have been busting waiting for the Mavic Mini to arrive. Why you weren't chosen for an early release model is beyond me. I think in weather like that the best way to keep that little guy warm is to keep it inside your coat along with the batteries. Green looks good on you. Everyone in Saskatchewan is cheering lol. Great review as usual.
Yeah, even the less expensive drones have a feature like that. But the image quality, GPS, and price is perfect for me! I personally don't have a use for follow me.
Best review on the best channel by the Captain. For the money with the features and camera quality it's a must have ...... how do I convince "she who must be obeyed" that I need another flying thing! Forgot to say, good to see you pushing the boundaries of flying in extreme weather!
Just say you need an electric razor and get the Mini... about the same size when folded, and if you make the sounds of a razor early in the morning, she'll never suspect. :-)
Wow that’s a lot of snow it’s so hot here in Australia took my Mavic mini up to film all the smoke from the bushfires here it’s crazy. I love the mini the lower noise is great the birds used to not like my spark so this is great for me no more stress with birds trying to kill it in the air. Stay warm 🥶
I bought the Mini and the main reason is the 249 gr, also a plus is the low noise. The annoying noise was one of the reasons that I haven't bought the Mavic Air before. I would guess that it would be a lot of plastic to reach the 249 gr and I am fine with that. The Mini could have had 4k as it shares the sensor with the Air and the Osmo Pocket but in my opinion is limited to 2.7k because of the slow 40 Mps instead of the 100 Mps of the Air and Pocket. I think DJI did it not just because of price and weight but to not step on the Mavic Air market share. The only thing I regret that the Mini lacks is manual control in video mode but it can be added on a firmware update if DJI wants (there is already manual control in photo mode). Additionally it doesn't have waypoints which is a function I like but this is a control software change that can be added later on. Thanks for the review, useful as always.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 EXACTLY!
Hi ka dcp!!!
My mavic mini was delivered yesterday but it’s raining cats and dogs so I see it as an opportunity to watch your videos first =)
Thank you. Do a review in the rain... It would be one of a kind! :-)
CAPTAIN DRONE I am not a real risk taker:)) and mavic air died recently... (IMU isn’t responsive at all) so, will take it really easy on this one:)
Mine arrives tomorrow, so excited! Thanks for the video!
Nice review this drone is amazing. However the weight is 251 gr with the sticker!
And if you attach the after market accessories it will need to be registered then
Why does everything think I used the DIY DJI Sticker???? This is a Captain Drone Vinyl stretch sticker. Weather resistant and light weight. Total weight of my drone with sticker is 249.6 grams.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank you for your reply. I will probably buy this drone in the near future. Like you said I hope people will be responsible when flying this drone. Otherwise this drone will be restricted as the same as the drone over 250 gr. By the way your sticker with your logo look very nice.
Get the smaller battery, only weighs in at 200g
@Lon Denard I would laugh myself into a ticket then if they came up to me with that goofiness
It is one of my vinyl stretchy stickers. Total weight 249.6 grams.
Greetings from Memphis TN. My Mini is arriving this coming Tuesday. My first drone so I’m really looking forward to it. Glad to hear you say it is a great starter drone. Watching your channel and seeing your enthusiasm got me hooked. Thanks for braving the cold for this review !
Is there a way to turn off the RTH beeping?
Short press of the power button on the controller. Works on mavic 2 atleast.
For me the short press does not work on the mini :(
Lon Denard okay, thanks dad.
@Lon Denard I didn't know boomers flew drones.
@Lon Denard You maybe shouldve said that before marking people as kids, that being said: I found your comment funny and I was hoping you'd find mine funny too :) I think you're right, yet I think there are cases where RTH can be very useful and on top of that the beeping is annoying :P
Thank you for all your informative about drones!!!!!!! I really admire you sir!!!
Stil waiting for mine... stuck between Canada and US customs for 5 days now :(
Great video Steve can’t wait to get mine at the photography show early in 2020 UK
Thinking of getting rid of all my drones and getting the mini Mav and the anafi
Very well done Captain, I've got one on the way so I've been watching many videos, yours comes in at the best.
I just bought my mavic mini today.
DJI suggests a 128 GB microSD card. For a 30 minute flight that seems too big. What size microSD card is best for one flight of 30 minutes?
Attention! With the sticker the drone has 251g. You must this take away
My stickers skin is vinyl and the weight comes up to 249.6 grams.
I thought the same lol
@Lon Denard there are stickers inside of the box, and with them the drone has 251g
10:05 Glad you told me there is no follow you feature.
That was almost a deal breaker for me. The Spark has it but it's heavier.
@@saiyan_princestudios9790 thanks!!
I just bought mine last week. Now let's watch how quick they change the '250 gram' regulation lmao
lol reminds me of stupid gun regulations in California. "Can't have XYZ cosmetic features on a rifle or it's an assault rifle", remove said features to comply with the law "OMG you are circumventing the law, we need to change it now!"
@@kielhawkins9529 I'm a Californian and damn ashamed of it ....what a bunch of pusseys this state has become .....fuck California ....AMERICA first.
@@kielhawkins9529 The only thing I am gonna comply with is good old common sense which has not tought to our children
@@kielhawkins9529 as a matter of fact .....it's dark here and I'm gonna take up my Spark and have a nice fligh and not hurt a damn thing while the drone police are crying about my comment!!!!
I bought it in store at Best Buy 😎
Checking in Cap! Just got the fly more bundle today! I currently have the Bugs 5W which I still love and may use in very windy days. Great review watched it at least 5 times. Peace!
This review puts the icing on my cake! As always thank you for the review.
DJI customer service after the sale is better then other manufactures/sellers?
Btw what is 40g orange kid drone?
I'm on the fence about DJI CS. I have been email bounced around by them with no conclusions yet
I can't watch any other channels for Drone info. I love your channel.
I appreciate that!
The difference between >250gr and
"goofy tariffs" couldn't be more spot on.
More like silly Americans for letting politicians sell their economy to pirates for decades. DJI makes solid products, however. Nice review, thanks.
@@JoeGator23 yes we Americans are really struggling down here with our crap economy, its tough but somehow we survive.
The music is just awesome. Very dynamic approach. cheers!
Philip
Interesting issue. Good info.
I know you're playing on that slide when the camera is off
Best 5 mins of my life while awaiting for the firmware to finish :-)
Great review, thanks for braving the cold for our sakes. Pretty impressive that she flies at that temperature!
Hi with the Sticker on the top of the drone , you are now over 249 gramms!
all reviews are excellent
Thank you!
i bought the mavic mini and as soon as i did the auto take off and within 2 seconds the drone flew away automatically and crashed (on my first flight outdoor).
anyone knows why this would happen ? i gave it back to the authorized re seller Nd he is currently checking with DJI if the damages could be covered under warranty
abrar sait were you flying around a bridge or a bunch of metal?? Cause if so it can cause
Fly aways
Steve you must have been busting waiting for the Mavic Mini to arrive. Why you weren't chosen for an early release model is beyond me. I think in weather like that the best way to keep that little guy warm is to keep it inside your coat along with the batteries. Green looks good on you. Everyone in Saskatchewan is cheering lol. Great review as usual.
Go Roughriders! Yup, no love from DJI.... again.
JJRC X12 AURORA is it!
FotoMarino TV I’ve got the x12 it is BRILLIANT!
@@CMAB-yu3pr I think it is better than this little mavic. I got it too!
And no NFZ!
Dig your new MAS hat!
Been waiting for this review-great job as usual!
The lack of a 'follow me' feature is a deal breaker for me. That FIMI X8 SE did impress me though...
Yeah, even the less expensive drones have a feature like that. But the image quality, GPS, and price is perfect for me! I personally don't have a use for follow me.
U238 aaa
Nice review as usual. Just ordered the combo from your link. Happy Flying
Enjoy! DJI is a bit backed up with orders, but they ship as first come, first served, so you'll be in the lineup.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Great thanks
Technically you have to have that registered cause the sticker weighs in at 2 grams.
yeah, a lot of people painting them, skinning them, adding stickers... more takeoff weight so bye bye no have to register stuff.
I see that there is an cage-like accessory that protects the blades. Does the blade protector put it over the 250 gram regulation?
Yes, many grams over 250.
It's cold here in Michigan to kind of affected my Range Extender on my hubsan 501a yesterday evening good video like the drone
Beginners need more sensors, skydio R2 is better.
beginners are gonna mess it up regardless of sensors, the cheapest the better.
Always the best reviews on RUclips !
Mine is in the way
Wow that’s a lot of snow it’s so hot here in Australia took my Mavic mini up to film all the smoke from the bushfires here it’s crazy. I love the mini the lower noise is great the birds used to not like my spark so this is great for me no more stress with birds trying to kill it in the air. Stay warm 🥶
*i pick it up*
*I check the price*
*I put it back*
I bought the Mini and the main reason is the 249 gr, also a plus is the low noise.
It would be fun if you make a giveaway the dji spark haha first one to comment
