    Most of your complaints fall into the nitpicking category, the flexibility of the Mavic mini is a plus not a negative. The flexibility will help keep it from breaking unlike the Mavic air.

Quick to use , almost invisible and without any restricting law. You bring home some shooting you couldn’t even think before .

      @pavelp80 5 лет назад +5

      Don't you have any restrictions? We have too many in Czech Republic. Like 50m from people or double the altitude, 100m from buildings, we should be able to fly using eyes and not the camera or map (which sort of limits mavic mini to 50-80m cause it hard to see further) and flying for commercial purpose (even monetized youtube video, or propagation) needs likely more registrations and permissions than flying a glider :-(.
      Laws are likely made for model aircrafts and when it comes to profit, law is likely made to protect professionals, but it feels as stupid as there was a law against using any kind of camera for profit.

    I'm happy with my DJI mavic mini. It's used for my welding jobs when I want to feature my railings. I didnt want to break the bank by buying an overly expensive drone. I just wanted something that I can write off on my business and enjoy from time to time with my kids as well. I think DJ I hit the mark with this drone. I can agree if they have had a couple extra features but then it would have made the drone heavier and then you'd have to get a drone license for it. I think the point of this DJI mavic mini is for guys like me. I'm not looking for anything serious and crazy but I want a brand name that I can trust at a good price!

  • @RedWingsninetyone

    They were trying to keep it under 250g so of course it's going to feel cheap. The flex is what makes it strong in a crash. This way they give in an impact rather than just break.

    Womp, womp, womp! What were you expecting at this price point and weight limitation. The Mini is a great drone. Were you expecting them to limit the sales of their other products by cramming all their features in the mini? It is to get more people flying and it does a great job. • @armandoferreira8790
    @armandoferreira8790 5 лет назад +45

    Thanks for the nice video. However, the point for this drone is that DJI wanted to replace the Spark having in mind three factors lower weight, lower price and easy to fly. The Mini checks all the boxes.
    Some of the features that the Spark has and the Mini don't and are related with software I expect to be added on later firmware or app updates. Like other DJI products they have improved with firmware updates.
    Of course, features that require hardware changes like obstacle avoidance will never been on the Mini.
    The sensor of the Mini is capable of 4k but I believe that DJI restringed the speed on the Mini to 40 Mps that isn't capable of handling data of a 4k image, the Air has 100 Mps, in order to protect the Air market share. However, the 2.7k video is better than some lower end 4k video drones and this may be due to the new and better image processor of the Mini.
    I bought the Mini as a travel drone to be under government red tape and in Portugal to be below the weight required for mandatory insurance.

    This is classed as a beginner's drone so many of the features you state I know nothing about so I don't miss them. The others are software not hardware. You didn't say about the battery giving much more flight time compared to other similar drones. Then the final 3 things that are selling points to first time drone pilots.
    1. It so easy to fly for a beginner. Especially with the return to home safeguard.
    2. It's light weight 249 grams means you don't have to register it with the FAA, and that was a big thing in its target market of America.
    3. Again, as a beginner's drone the price with the 2nd option of the flymore combo was perfect.

    I have a Mavic Mini, well I'm on my second Mini. I returned the first one in December because it would not show orientation in the DJI Fly app. My second drone, which arrived this week, has the same problem. I'm also an Android phone user, Pixel 3a.
    Fun Fact, quite a few android phones are not compatible with the Remote Controller. When you connect an Android phone to the Remote Controller, then the phone's compass gets deflected by the Remote Controller. This then causes a false reading on the DJI Fly app making it very hard to work out the orientation of the drone when its over 100 meters away.
    Give it a try with an android phone. Install a compass app and then move the phone towards the Remote Control. If the compass gets deflected then you have a problem, like I have with my Pixel 3a. Rotate the phone 180 degrees, so that the USB C port, is on the right hand side of the phone it seems OK. I just have to wait for an extension cable to see if this solves the problem.
    However I have tested the Remote Control with two old iphones, and the experience was flawless. :-(

    The number one design goal of the Mini was a half-decent sub 250 gram GPS camera drone. The number two design goal was to make it as easy as possible for beginners, the target market. And number three was to keep the cost down. Considering those conflicting design goals, I think they did a good job. Though the Mini was initially targeted at beginners, my guess is now that it's becoming obvious professionals and experienced pilots are also using it, some of the missing software functions will be added in future firmware updates. Remember, the Mini is essentially a new category of drone. Up until now, sub 250 gram drones have literally been non-GPS toys with crappy cameras, junk or in some cases, FPV racers. Dji had no way of knowing for sure how the market was going to react to it until they released it.
    I'd say stay tuned.....

      Great points. Unfortunately I am pessimistic that DJI will unlock major new feature upgrades based on what they have done historically. It would be great if the left DJI Fly for beginners and added the Mini to the Go4 app with more features. Fingers crossed!

    I get the "gripes" and the "I wish it had" things... But as I said in other people's vids that complained about not having the same features the drones that cost 4x as much.. I asked if they would buy a BMW 1 series and complain that it didn't have all the stuff the 7 series has. It was designed to hit a few points. Price and weight... Weight is a bigger deal in other countries than the U.S.. The price of this is what made me buy this over the zino pro... It gives drone noobs like me a chance at a much better polished drone for the same price bracket as the Chinese brands.
    But hey. If these are your and other people's only complaints about it then it must be pretty good.
    On a side note I did see a guy crash the mini at about full speed into the ground at an angle and it took it like a champ.

      @@HalfChrome you know more about these than I do. This will be my first DJI product. I do know manufactures ways. I don't doubt they cut back some of the potential of the drone to limit it so those who want those features will buy the more expensive models. Its simple manufacturing marketing... It's cheaper to buy the same processor and put it in all the products rather than to research a different one , put in and build a new assembly process for it. But... You also have to look at it this way too. The same CPU can run cooler and more efficient if it's only running at 50%... Less power usage for a fan and weight for heatsink... In turn longer battery life.. Many factors that could have been involved.. I'm speculating of course, but those (to me) seen like logical factors as to why it could do the things that the others can but doesn't.

    • @sharedknowledge6640
      @sharedknowledge6640 5 лет назад

      John Parker The BMW analogy is not applicable here. There are a ton of features that wouldn’t add one cent to the hardware cost and DJI has already done all the software development on but they chose to leave out. From camera raw, to more camera controls, to more autonomous modes, etc, DJI already has so much more they could have put in this drone at zero cost to DJI. There are similarly priced drones, like the X8, from other manufactures that shame the Mini in multiple ways.

    @backpacker3421 4 года назад +2

    I've crashed the mini a few times. The worst was hitting a pine tree at about 1/3 speed at elevation of about 30 feet. No damage. The closest thing to damage I've had is dirt getting into the prop motor and needing to be cleaned out for proper function. Light and bendy is not the same thing as fragile. Light means less force. Bendy means flexible. Both can be damage preventers. That said, there's plenty of RUclips examples of catastrophic crashes with these. Fly carefully. Anything can break if you run into something hard enough.

    Excellent video. Sadly DJI seems more worried about the start up sounds than features customers actually want. It’s typical Chinese design where they miss so many opportunities that are obvious to nearly everyone else. DJI already has all the software and firmware to let this drone do so much more from camera raw to more camera settings to more autonomous modes, but they just decided to leave all that out even though it doesn’t add one cent to the hardware cost and the software development is already done. There are multiple drones in this price range, like the X8, that blow away the Mini. I really hope those drones gain a big chunk of the market share DJI could have had if they made better choices.

    Personally, I bought the mini as my first entry to camera drones for the portability. Also, for me the features vs price feel about right, and I can easily fit this inside my camera bag to supplement my capabilities when on the road. Paying more for a less portable drone was really not an option, since photography gear in it's own is already bulky enough.
    I'm only a couple of flights in with the mini, but so far I've been impressed. Not much to say about durability or reliability yet.

    The reason why the Mavic MINI is so fragial is that they made it to be 249 grams, because if the drone is heavyer than 250 grams you will need the pilot licence to fly it, but MINI doesn't need it.
