Thanks for another great video! As the owner of the original Mavic Mini, I feel DJI has "neutered" the Mini 1 since it was introduced. Now it doesn't seem to take much wind for the warnings to pop up and doesn't seem as stable as it used to be.
Fly RC.... I'll let you in on a DJI Secret. DJI places those wind warnings so that they are recorded in the telemetry for the sole reason that if you damage your drone and blame it on the drone itself, DJI will tell you that you were flying in unsafe wind and probably deny your claim for free repairs or replacement... unless of course you have their insurance. With that said, there is no change to how the MINI 1 handles the wind, but now the drone is more sensitive to wind in the prompts it provides back to you.

I love the OG mini as it’s lithium iron batteries stay charged for weeks unlike the lipos which self discharge after only a few days. Still imo they are great drones, you can’t go wrong with any of them 👍🏻🙏
They only self discharge to 75 percent after a week. Also, Li-ion batteries? Are supposed to be stored with a charge between 30-50 percent. Soo, yeah. You’re mistreating your batteries. That’s why the new ones self discharge, because people don’t know how to treat batteries.
@@Chimera_Photography No li-on doesn’t discharge like li-po when in storage. The fundamental point here is that li-po batteries are more volatile and when incorrectly stored & mistreated can catch fire unlike li-on batteries where this won’t happen due to the chemical structure of the cells, plus the low cost of batteries means you can leave them charged for long periods of time without safety issues so is a perfect grab n go drone unlike lipos where you need to be a pre-Meditative flyer and plan when you need to fly. Just flew the DJI mini se in STRONG winds & it did amazing! Weather says SW 20-30mph winds with gusts up to 55mph. Very impressed! May want to tell people with some samsung phones that they need to go to the DJI website with desktop mode activated & go to downloads, there you can download the DJI app. It doesn't show up in the Google play store.
The most comprehensive, knowledgeable and top quality review, I really have to Thank you ! I ordered the mini SE today, it is basically my second drone, next week I'll test it... Best wishes !
@CAPTAIN DRONE Oh, Thanks, In fact I've already downloaded it from the dji website (it is not available on Google Play) I only had an issue with invisible elements on screen, but I reduced the screen zoom in display settings and it all worked out. I also just re-zoomed the screen and it seems that everything is still visible, the problem was with the initial tutorial stuff. It's a Samsung phone with Android 9 :) I hope that I will not have *many* issues with signal interference, as I had with my KF102 drone - almost lost it when I flew around the antennas on the roof of the building where I live :) Most probably I'll just avoid these situations.
the left propellers scratched little bit and the drone is on its left to 2-3 degrees shall i buy 2 pairs to change em??also the camera I see that it's a little bit on the left... By the way It is a very good drone
Really 381.00 dollar with that price, I prefer the Hubsan ZINO pro plus, I'm not compare two this drone , but still much better then this one. What do you think about it? Nice video by the way.👌
Hi Captain, love your videos. You are always very thorough and easy to understand! Can you recommend a good place to buy extra batteries for the Mini SE ? The one I'm looking at on amazon is $299 but it only comes with 1 battery. Your package came with 3. Better deal somewhere else for the 3 battery kit? Is there any reason to pick the mini 2 over this one outside of 4K capability? (The mini SE is half the price). Thanks!
People who are new to drones would not notice a difference between the SE or Mini 2. Range is what you get with the Mini 2. As for more batteries, I think you are stuck with the DJI STORE or do like me and order from CANADA.
Great video Steve! I liked how you included mention of the Spark as the genesis of this class of drones. As I own a Mini 2 (and a Spark), I'll pass on the SE, however, I'm very impressed by its specs and I've been recomending it to newbies. It's certainly worth paying what is just a little bit more for the SE over any budget drone.
@@s1dew1nd3r4 It doesn't! The Mini 2 is the newer technology and so is superior in terms of flight, radio transmission and camera characteristics. This is a great question though and the Spark was a very impressive piece of kit in its day - and still is an impressive piece of kit. Yes the Spark has the obsticle avoidance and active track features that the Mini lacks, but I use a Air 2 now for these anyway. The Spark will complete most missions acceptably. I've had it out over the past week and the only issues have really been with heavy winds where it gets blow off course and terrible transmission from the drone to my remote control/phone display, where it can become hard to see what you're doing. Despite this, it's still a lot of fun to fly!
Thank you for this. I just purchased the SE. Your review made the difference. I was all set to buy the Mini2. I am a photographer and no experience what so ever with a drone. Your detail and thoughts helped me decide. Regards….Wayne
There is a newer model of this drone that can do a bit more, it’s called the DJI Mini 2 SE and I recommend that you get the new one since it has a few better features.
First time I didn't receive the notice for the video. Weird? Anyway Steve, great job. I wouldn't be buying this SE because I'm very happy with my MA2. Thanks for sharing Steve. 👍👍👍
Captain D, In the video at 13:45, you said you have to have a phone compatible with the app and if you are not sure, just download the app and try it, I did. My Galaxy J7 Sky Pro and my Galaxy A10e both have Android versions that meet the 6.0 requirement, but on DJI page, it also lists compliant phones and neither phone was listed, I tried downloading the app and it does not work on either phone. I tried downloading the app to my Galaxy S2 tablet and it runs fine… I guess the firmware of my phones do not support the requirements of the app. This did not come as a surprise, two years ago, I bought a 2019 Toyota Corolla, I needed to download their app, Entune 3.0 to link my phone to the map function and this app did not work with my J7 Sky Pro either. Thank you for mentioning this in your videos, your videos are a great service to us and they are very entertaining.
Great review!! Thanks a lot, being a Newby that was great advice to have faith that it will return to home... just wait for it. Well off to the store tomorrow to pick up my new Mini SE. Cheers mate!
I am still holding out for V2 Goggle support. Need Mini 3, under 250g, for this holiday season with Goggle support. Would sell like hot cakes! Hands down would give DJI a huge advantage in a highly competitive field. If they don’t, i fear it will be no different then all the others in this category.
@@rogerthat9174 Correct. I just counted 10 different models alone in Captain Drone's video list (in the past few months). Just click his videos and scroll through. He and all other RUclips influencers are all making comments about how this 249g market is becoming crazy crowded, with all similar specs, cheaper pricing, better specs, etc. Hence DJI releasing the DJI Mini SE, in what I believe is an attempt to compete with the cheaper competition, offering same or better specs. Just watch Captain Drones last few videos on the other models (or any others). It will explain all.
Brian Flores I have seen his and other videos..unfortunately I have to disagree with you.. I am not a Dji fanboy.but Dji does not have to be concerned about the competition.... for a long while......✌️.
@@rogerthat9174 sorry, I'll have to disagree with you on that. There's a little thing called geofencing that Dji loves to utilize and restrict drone flights. The only model that can be unlocked, is the original Mavic Pro. Otherwise, best spend your money on a company that leaves the responsibility of flight to the user. The Autel Evo 1 and 2 are good examples of getting the best features for the dollar without controlling where you want to fly.
at 5:17 you are talking about varying prices in different countries, but it is of course also a great way for DJI as a company to still use leftover parts and therefore actually sell them. As the owner of a DJI Spark and a Mavic Mini I have to say that the short 'history' lesson contains only facts and not just a personal opinion of your own! What you see all too often on other youtube channels, compliments for the clear explanation! If only they could come up with another way to put ocusyc 2.0 in a smaller controller, it would be the perfect upgrade in my opinion, but for now I think the controller is really too big.
This was awesome sir!!!! I mentioned I got this in another one of your video. Only flew this once late yesterday. Looking forward to being an expert flyer after this video!!!

Captain I’m only 13 so I can’t get money easy nor fast. When I saw the mini se it seemed perfect in terms of price, power and abilities but I want to fly it to an island 2.5 km from land and the land is in the middle of nowhere and very little interference. Another drone flyer from my town flown the mavic mini there fine and I was wondering would the mini se be able to do the same. I presume it can but though it’s best to find out from the best
If the mini one made it. It should make it just fine depending on wind also. A tricky question because it will most likely be out of line of sight. But other then that shouldn’t be a issue I have a se coming in I’ll update you on the this when it does. With way if you’re a beginner you will love it especially compared to other brands the mini 2 is also a great beginner drone maybe the best good luck 🍀 hope you get one ☝️

Water van be tricky. It doesn't really reflect the signal as much as absorbing it. And that can very with conditions. Mine dropped connection mile out. On instinct I had random connect drop connect drop... gone lost connect. I was giving up. It had been 25 mind. And it showed up way above altitude it should be. Waited as it flew past, it was lost. As it came down I managed to connect. And brought it down with zero on the battery. Had flown many times there. First that happend. So be aware, hints of bad connection,
First time drone buyer. I was waiting for the Mini 2 to go on sale, and waiting and waiting. Then mysteriously, the Mini SE popped up as a suggestion(in the US), read the specs, knew it wasn't exactly like the 2.. double checked DJI's site to make sure not some knock off, and had to buy it. That was last week and I've been having fun ever since.
Great comparison video! I preordered my Mavic Mini back December 2019 and received it in 2020. Although I haven't flown it in a while due to personal issues and responsibilities, I'm still quite happy with it. I see no reason to upgrade and instead will be looking into the FPV space for a drone I can fly purely for the pleasure of flight. Well, at least newbies will have more choice than ever in this sub-250 g space and I hope you do a review of the new Zino Mini when that comes out. I'm looking forward to it!
@@RiderEJ I've just been busy this year with personal issues and goals. It has nothing to do with the Mavic Mini itself. The drone is very good at what it does and I never fly it when the weather is too rainy or too windy. I've just been stressing out about my financial future and dealing with New Year's resolutions. It also doesn't help that my favourite pet rabbit died last year so I've been feeling too depressed to go out to fly.
Occu sync was the deciding factor for me between the mini 2 and se. I feel it's a must if you aren't willing to gamble. Never had any interference with mini 2
I often wonder the mini SE came about due to the current chip shortage affecting the mini 2. (It has different video related chips than the mini 1) It also maximises on the tooling costs for the plastics for the mini 1’s remote Plus it means DJI can sell more product..🤔
I would definitely say the SE is the best value for money drone compared to the mavic mini and the mini 2. BUT......I did go for the mini 2 for 1 reason only..... ocusync 2. That's what did it for me. I think the SE is perfectly priced and placed within the under 250g drones. If you want to fly within a 1 mile radius go for the SE, 100%.

The most comprehensive, knowledgeable and top quality review, I really have to Thank you !
I ordered the mini SE today, it is basically my second drone, next week I'll test it...
Best wishes !
I'm certain you will enjoy it. Just be certain your phone can run the DJI FLY App (phone must be 64 bit phone). Download the app to see.
@CAPTAIN DRONE Oh, Thanks, In fact I've already downloaded it from the dji website (it is not available on Google Play)
I only had an issue with invisible elements on screen, but I reduced the screen zoom in display settings and it all worked out.
I also just re-zoomed the screen and it seems that everything is still visible, the problem was with the initial tutorial stuff.
It's a Samsung phone with Android 9 :)
I hope that I will not have *many* issues with signal interference, as I had with my KF102 drone - almost lost it when I flew around the antennas on the roof of the building where I live :) Most probably I'll just avoid these situations.
I love watching his videos ❤️
First I ever seen about RC small rotary parts
the left propellers scratched little bit and the drone is on its left to 2-3 degrees shall i buy 2 pairs to change em??also the camera I see that it's a little bit on the left... By the way It is a very good drone
Really 381.00 dollar with that price, I prefer the Hubsan ZINO pro plus, I'm not compare two this drone , but still much better then this one. What do you think about it? Nice video by the way.👌
The night flight testing! You remembered! Thank you!
A very detailed video. Thank you very much. With so many videos you uploading, you never get to sleep. Take care. 👍😀
How does the spark compare to say the mini-2?
Glad I could help!
I really want this drone i am saving up for it is it a good invest ment? and is it fun to use?
There is a newer model of this drone that can do a bit more, it’s called the DJI Mini 2 SE and I recommend that you get the new one since it has a few better features.
I am now a first time drone owner! I got my Mini SE today and can't wait to learn how to use it!
Happy flying!
First time I didn't receive the notice for the video. Weird? Anyway Steve, great job. I wouldn't be buying this SE because I'm very happy with my MA2. Thanks for sharing Steve. 👍👍👍
Captain D,
In the video at 13:45, you said you have to have a phone compatible with the app and if you are not sure, just download the app and try it, I did.
Nice review but the SE seems a bit underwhelming when everyone's waiting for the Hubsan Zino Mini Pro, the dji Mini 3 or even an Autel Evo mini.
One of the best drone channels . Thank you from Ireland
Wow, thanks!
Nice History lesson, Nice video Captain
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey captain drone do you know if the mini 2s prop guards will fit on the mini se???
@@vincevanbeatz They both have the same body, so they should
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks 😊
such a good video i subscribed and liked i'm thinking about purchasing one of these thanks for being you!
I find myself still using the Spark more than the Mini 1,its still a brilliant little drone.
In my country the mini combo package. Is about $500 and the spark, on its own, is $800. It's a crazy place.
Great review!! Thanks a lot, being a Newby that was great advice to have faith that it will return to home... just wait for it. Well off to the store tomorrow to pick up my new Mini SE. Cheers mate!
Just started the video, cool shirt. I still have my Spark.
I just got my own DJI Spark few weeks ago. I love it! Although it is discontinued, still it is one of the best budget drone in the market!
I am still holding out for V2 Goggle support. Need Mini 3, under 250g, for this holiday season with Goggle support. Would sell like hot cakes! Hands down would give DJI a huge advantage in a highly competitive field. If they don’t, i fear it will be no different then all the others in this category.
Highly competitive..????
@@rogerthat9174 can't argue that. But the release of the SE, does show DJI is at least a little nervous IMHO. 😜
Can we call it the Mini 1.5 then?
That Mini SE case you like so much was part of the Mavic Mini Fly More Combo. I agree, it’s a nice case. It keeps the dust off my mini.
Oddly my 2019 mini didn't come with one.... or my memory needs a reset
Great work as always. Still love my Spark!
Thank you for that newbie tip to wait for the drone to come home.
DJI does not add all the features from the spark to the minis because they want you to have to buy the air 2 to get those features
This was awesome sir!!!! I mentioned I got this in another one of your video. Only flew this once late yesterday. Looking forward to being an expert flyer after this video!!!
This was a very informative video, thanks for sharing, also I loved the part about newbies freaking out about losing connection, I recently bought a Mini SE and this is my number one fear, so when that happen I will be prepared, this drone is pretty amazing for the price I can't believe how good drones are today since the Parrot AR.Drone days
I have been looking for a drone to get started with, from the HS720e, Mini, Mini2, F11 GIM, I think you just sold me on the SE.....other than fun, the only thing it "might" get used for is house photos for my real estate friends Thank you for the time and effort you put into your videos
Can I use the mavic mini controller if I just pick up the drone by itself?
love your videos, best advise you gave was the return to home info, that should save a lot of drones, especially mine as a new drone buyer, many thanks
07:50 The Mavic Mini 1 batteries DO fit in the Mini2 & MiniSE as I use my Mini1 batteries in them all the time.
Yes. My brain was referring to the CHARGER but my lips forgot to say the word CHARGER and instead said drone.
Impressive level of knowledge, informative, entertaining, and pedagogical! Thank you for this video, Mr Captain Drone! I will buy a DJI Mini SE tomorrow, and start following ur channel!
Thank you kindly!
Steve, will the dji "Pro 3" more expensive from the mavic 2 pro?
Yes
I'm in the market for my first drone to capture some cool shots for my motorcycle videos. This video was very informative and I learned a lot more than just about this drone. Many thanks to you sir!
Asking if DJI is good is like asking if Toyota is reliable.
Best reviews, thank you. As my 1st drone I will be buying the Se for sure
Wow. Hahaaaays. Hoping someday i can have one of it but due to lack of budget, I can't afford it. Thanks for sharing sir. Always watching here.
Thanks Captain Drone, after watching your review on under $299 drones I decided to buy DJI SE. Thanks again for this review, really helped in my decision making.
Good choice. Enjoy!
Lets say, something that we have to fix. Is there available spareparts from DJI? Or we had to another store?
❔❓❔❓⁉️❔❓❓❓
Yes, DJI has plenty of spare parts, but they want you to send it in to your local DJI authorized repair shop.
I once was flying sideways with mavic air 2, and I flew into a tree. I was able to find a new arm on Amazon for 40 usd.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 awesome!! 😄😄
Thanks for the great videos you produce! The are precise and extremely well done and very informative.

@@johnpatrick5282 thanks very much, I wanted to start with an easy drone so I bought a dji Ryze Tello and I love it but now I’d like to move on to something bigger and stronger. Thanks for all the info and help
So be aware, hints of bad connection,
@@airfriedquadsbw ok good to know. Thanks
Good choice!
What problems didn’t allow you to fly it?
@@RiderEJ I've just been busy this year with personal issues and goals. It has nothing to do with the Mavic Mini itself. The drone is very good at what it does and I never fly it when the weather is too rainy or too windy.
I've just been stressing out about my financial future and dealing with New Year's resolutions. It also doesn't help that my favourite pet rabbit died last year so I've been feeling too depressed to go out to fly.
@@The-Opium-Den Oh sorry I mis read the message. I'm sorry to hear about your rabbit my friend. Best of luck.
The best drone reviews so far for beginner like me. Thanks for tip for not panicking when signal was lost. Planning to get an SE soon. Thanks
So is the dji mini 3 still coming put soon? Or is that not happening?
Mini 3, like all DJI Drones, are delayed due to world chip shortage.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 august or september Maybe?
@@nicolaifredensborg1161 Probably January 2022
Occu sync was the deciding factor for me between the mini 2 and se. I feel it's a must if you aren't willing to gamble. Never had any interference with mini 2
I often wonder the mini SE came about due to the current chip shortage affecting the mini 2. (It has different video related chips than the mini 1)
It also maximises on the tooling costs for the plastics for the mini 1’s remote Plus it means DJI can sell more product..🤔
I just purchased this as first DJI purchase can’t wait to fly this
Enjoy!
That's crazy to say the Original Mavic Mini would be lucky to go 1 km...I have documented 2.7 miles without losing connection🤔,...in the city.
Thanks Steve for this, This is the first video I see for information on the SE, Good job. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Are u allowed to fly out of visual line of sight where u live
@@dosomestuff1949 VLOS applies to the whole of the UK.
