I chose the neo for the enclosed propellers. I have bought the fly more combo which includes extra batteries and the controller. It looks on some videos to be quite durable.
Nice review! I have a few drones, including the Avata 2. The reason I’m picking up the DJI NEO is just for super quick shots and the follow-me mode. The DJI Mini 4K doesn’t have follow-me (without third-party apps), so you’d have to jump up to at least the DJI Mini 4 Pro. Think they both have their use for sure.
Honestly the best reason to pick up the neo over any other camre is... It's the first time the common man has ever had access to the ability to never need to be behind the camre... Something seeming every new camre has promised but the DJI neo actually delivers in spades as well... As all you have to do is have the Neo charged and working press a button on it's head and make memories while it captires it for you... That ability is insane and something every family fotagher wises they had access to so they can be in the moment not busy looking into a view finder trying to capture it the best they can... The Neo will do that for you now with the main con being battery life but that still beats a poloroad the first time the common mad tasted this.
DJI NEO is a special product that fits me. No need in controller, cheap - to the point you not afraid to lose it that much, safe - has guards bottom, side and top, has built in programs, built in storage, more than acceptable quality. Took it to a trip with my kids, it is pretty much a personal videographer for those family moments.
I'm looking to buy either a neo or the mini 4. Would the neo be good for RUclips videos for travel to catch some shots and also for showing houses outside and in?
Quick question, I have just bought Neo, but its video quality is very poor. It feels like blurry patches all over. Do I need any adjustment in camera settings. I can see few patches in your video too. But few RUclipsrs post a very clear video. Please advise, otherwise I have to return it back. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. Can you do one comparing the photo and video quality between the mini 4K, and the mini 3, please? With side by side comparisons? Is there a large enough difference in video quality to uograde? And what about photos? Many thanks.👍
Thanks, that helped a lot, exactly the comparison i was looking for. As a total beginner, i guess i'll chose the neo, even if the image quality seems much better on the mini 4k.
I probably should have bought the Mini but I love my Neo, will upgrade one day with a more cinematic drone. First time drone owner, as great as their action cameras…
Everyone has a different use case. I own the DJI Avata 2, the Mini 4 Pro, the HoverAir X1, and in a few days, the DJI Neo. My use cases are: to fly high up and get great visuals (Mini 4 Pro) to get some fun shots of moving around higher up and sweeping lower down (Avata 2), take some vacation selfie shots straight out of my pocket (HoverAir x1) and then have a few “selfies on steroids” at times, and even some FPV (the NEO). What does all of the above mean? It only means that I want to play with these beautiful, sophisticated toys that DJI has provided us with. Nothing special. I just want to have a bit of fun out there. What about you?
Bought the Neo as my very first drone… Why? Size, price and versatility. Took it with me on my Iceland 🇮🇸 trip and did some tweaks in the camera settings, so the results are satisfying for me, and I think I made the right decision. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Let's say I want an affordable drone with follow me feature, but just don't really like the camera quality of the Neo, I mean I can just attach a DJI Action 2 on it and get at least a better camera quality right?
Now I got more confused lol!! Neo video quality looks move alive than the mini 4K (not in close up) and its cheaper but doesn't have a remote like the 4K.
The Mini 4K is definitely better for anyone who does a lot of drone videography/photography, but I don't do a crazy amount & don't care about having the highest quality images I can, which is why I prefer the Neo. The fact that you can just quickdraw the Neo & you're in the air is just incredible. No controller connection, rotor deployment, etc... required. Just turn it on, push a button, and you're off.
I love to fly the Neo and love the flexibility of how to fly but I am surprised how poor the video looks. I have tried the tweaks that are suggested but as you showed… the quality just doesn’t line up with even the most basic DJI Mini drones. Thanks for always providing the very well done videos.
One thing that I don't see anyone talking about is having 22GB of onboard memory vs a micro SD card slot. What happens if the on board memory dies or get corrupted, which happens, and it's out of warranty? You'll have to send it into DJI for repair? What's that going to cost?
I think we have to throw it becuase memory is generally soldered. That's a great point. I will go with mini 4k. It also has wind resistant 5 just like mini 4 pro and image quality is way better than neo.
Still deciding, I have the original mini 2 which is basically the mini 4k so probably don't need the fly-more Neo combo, BUT would like the follow function and quick launch from hand quick shots. At least in South Africa currently the drone is not yet registered, so while there are a lot of online stores getting pre-orders any actual purchases are on hold until they get through all the legislation.
I have the mini 2 and the mini 4k and the video quality going to 4k is definitely noticeable so you don’t basically have a mini 4k 😂 similar but definitely a rise in quality 🎯
@@fishingwithjones thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated. I don't use my Mini 2 enough to warrant an upgrade on that. I would probably use the Neo more for the quick launch features and the tracking - which the Mini 2 and 4k (I guess?) don't have. As of yesterday the Neo has received approval for sale in SOuth Africa and I imagine there is some poor dude(tte) sitting at DJI or somewhere sticking on ICASA (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) stickers as proof of clearance 🙂. If i bite the bullet I won't upgrade the Mini 2 BUT if I want extra batteries and the charge case for the Neo it would basically work out cheaper to get the flymore kit. The decision then is it worth keeping the Mini 2 for the odd cinematic and photo shots... or will the footage from the Neo suffice..? just my ramblings
Something that is ignored by all these reviews and comparisons - I'm looking at NEO primarily for flying indoors and kids having fun with it indoors. The Mini 4 is terrible at indoor flying, it was only designed for outdoor, and you have to change a bunch of settings and go through the hassle of installing separate prop guards to make the Mini 4 work decent indoors. It looks like the NEO would be much, much better for indoor flying (not so much for the camera, but just having fun!) Can anyone confirm this is the case? About to buy a NEO for this purpose since my Mini 4 sucks at indoors.
@@FlytPath I saw that portion, thanks. But what I mean is a more thorough overview of how this improves the indoor flying experience. For example a 10 minute video showing how well or poorly it performs in indoor flying tight spaces. The section you mentioned is just a few seconds. I am surprised that so many of the reviews focus on outdoors and the camera cinematography for the NEO when I think the main huge advantage would be the indoor and fun aspect.
I was about to pull the trigger on the mini 4K fly more package at amazon. But I just had a quick thought and wondered if the DJI controller was compatible with the new iPhone 15 & 16s since they have the USB C connector instead of the old apple lightning connector. The answer seems to be NO. Apparently USB C to lightning adapter don't work either.

I prefer the cinematic and (RAW) photographic footage. So the mini 4K wins for me
The two selling points for me on the Neo is the ease of use and then the FPV ability. The quality of the image and stability is something that would steer me to the other drones. Ideal world…I could afford both!
Have an SE Mini 2 and Im pretty pleased with it..but was certainly missing that follow me feature and other maneuvers. Picking up a NEO with the RCN3 remote
One thing I noticed is that the mini 4k in some of your footage seems darker than the neo. I ran into that in photography with zoom lenses. Do you think that's something with the camera or is it just a lower ambient light from the clouds? Thanks!
Had a mini 3 hit some trees and it crashed gimbal first. DJI local service center couldnt fix it and just told me to get a new one. Better to get a sturdier drone because absolutely no after market support at least here where i live
I think the Neo might get raw with an update? I've never honestly used raw, not with a sense of that size, but I suppose it could be better? Your video comparisons are solid, it really shows you the difference. I have an air2S, which is a great drone, but damn these things become obsolete faster than PCs! The air2S cannot use any goggles, (you might be able to find some hack with HDMI) I don't know. You made good points regarding the quick shots. I think the Neo's strength is really for spontaneous travel type videos and inside close quarters like in a jungle landscape. Some of the best video I've seen on RUclips from the Neo so far is nature photography. A few adjustments of the settings, and a little bit of work in post you can make some very lovely looking imagery
It appears that the video with the Mini K is considerably darker overall than the Neo. Is this because of a camera setting? Did clouds come in during the shoot?
thank you - I was trying to chose between these - now I want both!!!
The Neo sounded great until you put up that first side by side shot and I was blown away at how much better the Mini 4K picture looked.

Great, informative video. The Neo looks like a perfect first drone.
Let's say I want an affordable drone with follow me feature, but just don't really like the camera quality of the Neo, I mean I can just attach a DJI Action 2 on it and get at least a better camera quality right?
Does the Neo work with the goggles N3 and RC2 or N3 controller?
hello should i buy this even with the recent “ban” on dji drones??
Thnx for this comparison now i want to buy mini 4k..i am a beginner
Great, informative video!
No controller connection, rotor deployment, etc... required. Just turn it on, push a button, and you're off.
thankyou so much , this is so informative and done so well
Fantastic comparison!
Thank you for putting this together 😊
Glad you liked it!
Mini 4k is like integrated spark camera.
Neo is like an offspring of spark and avata.
Transferring files off Neo is pretty slow as well. In this sense I like having the SD card that I can just pop out and quick transfer to my laptop.
I love to fly the Neo and love the flexibility of how to fly but I am surprised how poor the video looks. I have tried the tweaks that are suggested but as you showed… the quality just doesn’t line up with even the most basic DJI Mini drones. Thanks for always providing the very well done videos.
Is the Neo RC captures as smooth and cinematic as the 4K?
Thnks for your awesome vids
Oh now I see your comparisons w 3 gimbal and 1 gimbal, got it!
Considering the Neo as a start.
What is the difference in noise between the two?
Can either the Neo or the Mini 4K shoot in portrait (vertically)?
neo can now following a fw update
Still deciding, I have the original mini 2 which is basically the mini 4k so probably don't need the fly-more Neo combo, BUT would like the follow function and quick launch from hand quick shots. At least in South Africa currently the drone is not yet registered, so while there are a lot of online stores getting pre-orders any actual purchases are on hold until they get through all the legislation.
😮
I have the mini 2 and the mini 4k and the video quality going to 4k is definitely noticeable so you don’t basically have a mini 4k 😂 similar but definitely a rise in quality 🎯
@@fishingwithjones is it a big difference because I also have the mini 2
Where is this 199 at because on Amazon it's 289
can the Neo recognize you when u r with alot of people behind?
@@ddbear8786 apparently you didn’t watch 02:40 of this video
@@FlytPath I saw that portion, thanks. But what I mean is a more thorough overview of how this improves the indoor flying experience. For example a 10 minute video showing how well or poorly it performs in indoor flying tight spaces. The section you mentioned is just a few seconds. I am surprised that so many of the reviews focus on outdoors and the camera cinematography for the NEO when I think the main huge advantage would be the indoor and fun aspect.
All clear now !! Thanks Sir !!
I want to buy Mini 4k but I'm from india.
Dji doesn't have any official store here.
Kindly, provide some alternatives to buy it.
So the mini 4K wins for me
Wonder which one would be ideal for indoors where we would program the drone to capture some of the audience and the speaker performing on stage?
The two selling points for me on the Neo is the ease of use and then the FPV ability. The quality of the image and stability is something that would steer me to the other drones.
Ideal world…I could afford both!
What happens to the Neo when you are using Wi-Fi and you go past 50m?
I'd say it auto returns home
Have an SE Mini 2 and Im pretty pleased with it..but was certainly missing that follow me feature and other maneuvers. Picking up a NEO with the RCN3 remote
One thing I noticed is that the mini 4k in some of your footage seems darker than the neo. I ran into that in photography with zoom lenses. Do you think that's something with the camera or is it just a lower ambient light from the clouds? Thanks!
Accident avoidance? The neo doesn't have it but seems to do well in following mode. Not about the mini 4k
Had a mini 3 hit some trees and it crashed gimbal first. DJI local service center couldnt fix it and just told me to get a new one. Better to get a sturdier drone because absolutely no after market support at least here where i live
... Ok.... What is a level 4 wind resistance? How does it translate to the Bft scale?
Nice footage by Blacks and Torrey Pines and La Jolla etc
I paraglide right there weekly.
Neo is fun and easy 😊 ❤ from Dj John Sweden.
Great video. Now I am clear that it is a fun and versatile drone but I prefer image quality. Thank you greetings
Thanks for watching!
how high can it go on phone wifi?
50 meters max
I have the Mavic Air 2 for good photography. The Neo can go to cramped spaces whilst the Mavic Air 2, cannot - it is larger.
Do you have to register the mini with the FAA?
