Using the Neo with the goggles 3 is an amazing experience, you can get it into some really tight spots that the Avata can’t even manage. Such a fun little drone
C'mon. Not that much. There is no such a big difference even regarding tight places to fly with one or another. Besides, Avata enters quite dark places in exploratory flights, and Neo struggles flying in darker places. Neo is way superior, but Neo of course is also lots of fun. 😊

Everyone has a different use case. I own the DJI Avata 2, the Mini 4 Pro, the HoverAir X1, and in a few days, the DJI Neo. My use cases are: to fly high up and get great visuals (Mini 4 Pro) to get some fun shots of moving around higher up and sweeping lower down (Avata 2), take some vacation selfie shots straight out of my pocket (HoverAir x1) and then have a few “selfies on steroids” at times, and even some FPV (the NEO). What does all of the above mean? It only means that I want to play with these beautiful, sophisticated toys that DJI has provided us with. Nothing special. I just want to have a bit of fun out there. What about you?
Nice review! I have a few drones, including the Avata 2. The reason I’m picking up the DJI NEO is just for super quick shots and the follow-me mode. The DJI Mini 4K doesn’t have follow-me (without third-party apps), so you’d have to jump up to at least the DJI Mini 4 Pro. Think they both have their use for sure.
Two completely different drones. Personally, I don't really care for folding drones or folding props, and I fly for fun, not for extreme quality videos and photos. I think the Neo is a much more fun flying experience. You can have it in the air in a minute or less.
Each drone has its own characteristics, I already have a mini 2 but I love the autonomy of the Neo, and because of its price I can afford to get one without having to sell any of my other drones, thanks for the video, yours are always so informative.

You make a lot of great points, if you're looking for a camera drone, the Neo is not it. The Neo is only cheap if your only intention is to fly it as a selfie drone, once you start adding controllers and goggles it becomes much more expensive. And if you already have the controllers and goggles, your not a beginner. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks, that helped a lot, exactly the comparison i was looking for. As a total beginner, i guess i'll chose the neo, even if the image quality seems much better on the mini 4k.
Thanks for a great review. I definitely want to buy the Neo as my first drone now. I had a TV prog film my place a couple of Winters ago, and their drone made sunrise shots that I never knew existed on my location...totally blew me away and I knew then it's worth making vlogs of my place and periferral landscape if an affordable drone can be found.
Great video! So just to be clear, the Mini does not do that Follow me mode at all? Besides the Neo are there other drones that do that first player view?
The two selling points for me on the Neo is the ease of use and then the FPV ability. The quality of the image and stability is something that would steer me to the other drones. Ideal world…I could afford both!
The Mini 4K is definitely better for anyone who does a lot of drone videography/photography, but I don't do a crazy amount & don't care about having the highest quality images I can, which is why I prefer the Neo. The fact that you can just quickdraw the Neo & you're in the air is just incredible. No controller connection, rotor deployment, etc... required. Just turn it on, push a button, and you're off.
Thanks for the video. Can you do one comparing the photo and video quality between the mini 4K, and the mini 3, please? With side by side comparisons? Is there a large enough difference in video quality to uograde? And what about photos? Many thanks.👍
I probably should have bought the Mini but I love my Neo, will upgrade one day with a more cinematic drone. First time drone owner, as great as their action cameras…
As an owner of the Mini 4K (replacing my recently lost mini 2K), I have to admit, I found it frustrating that the DJI Neo is compatible with ALL their controllers, while the DJI Mini 4K is stuck with the 'mobile phone' dependant one. I frequently have issues getting my Google Pixel 7 Pro, to talk to my DJI Mini 4K (and 2K previously). Whether it's the app not working on my phone or my phone just not talking to the controller If they can make the Neo talk to the RC, built in screen controllers, I can't see why they can't do the same for the Mini 4K. But...there is a temptation to get a DJI Neo, because the price is arguably cheap and affordable, but the dip of video quality and loss of gimble.
I think the Neo might get raw with an update? I've never honestly used raw, not with a sense of that size, but I suppose it could be better? Your video comparisons are solid, it really shows you the difference. I have an air2S, which is a great drone, but damn these things become obsolete faster than PCs! The air2S cannot use any goggles, (you might be able to find some hack with HDMI) I don't know. You made good points regarding the quick shots. I think the Neo's strength is really for spontaneous travel type videos and inside close quarters like in a jungle landscape. Some of the best video I've seen on RUclips from the Neo so far is nature photography. A few adjustments of the settings, and a little bit of work in post you can make some very lovely looking imagery
I love to fly the Neo and love the flexibility of how to fly but I am surprised how poor the video looks. I have tried the tweaks that are suggested but as you showed… the quality just doesn’t line up with even the most basic DJI Mini drones. Thanks for always providing the very well done videos.
Thanks for the video, well done! I chose the Mini 4K, mostly because I wanted to replace my broken Mini 2. I have a Mini 4 Pro as well, and I use them for landscape/nature videos. I use the Mini 4K for tight shots (such as getting in tight to waterfalls) that I may not want to fly the Mini 4 Pro into. The Neo is interesting and might be good for following shots while hiking etc., but The Mini 4 Pro takes care of most of that. I do see where the Neo could be useful. Maybe when/if a Neo 2 comes out.
I'm looking to buy either a neo or the mini 4. Would the neo be good for RUclips videos for travel to catch some shots and also for showing houses outside and in?
Quick question, I have just bought Neo, but its video quality is very poor. It feels like blurry patches all over. Do I need any adjustment in camera settings. I can see few patches in your video too. But few RUclipsrs post a very clear video. Please advise, otherwise I have to return it back. Thank you.
Have an SE Mini 2 and Im pretty pleased with it..but was certainly missing that follow me feature and other maneuvers. Picking up a NEO with the RCN3 remote
I like this video. Thanks! I would compare the Neo to the Hover drone. I love my Hover drone and it literally does fit in my pocket. The Neo does not fold, so it is bigger to carry around. Can you compare the sound capture of the Neo v. the Hover?
Thank you for this Video. Greetings from Germany.
Just curious but why? My thought is the avata covers everything the neo does but the other drones outside of the mini 4k can use the goggles and remote too with better cameras. Is it not redundant with the neo?
@kentao4 It's only $200 brand new and proven to be very durable. You can hand over the goggles and remote to your child or wife and not worry about damaging your avata 2. I personally have been learning to fly full manual with it and taking way more risky gaps than I would with my avata 2 while learning. lastly, what sold it for me was how fast I can deploy it without a remote and have it active track me while biking through the trails of New Hampshire. So much versatility for only 200 bucks.
Without even looking the mini is league above Neo. I have both. Neo is only for automation BUT it’s been a beta experience for many. If you follow groups you see all the issues.
Had a mini 3 hit some trees and it crashed gimbal first. DJI local service center couldnt fix it and just told me to get a new one. Better to get a sturdier drone because absolutely no after market support at least here where i live
Very nice video Firstly , in Sweden all drones under 250grams fall under the category that don't need any kind of flight experience or licens to fly, how much does the 4k whei? Also, If I'd want more of the features like follow me etc but better video quality , which one would you recommend? I prefer the small size and low weight. It sounded like the 3 mini is even better than the 4k in video? Do you also have a comparison in an another video?
First of all, great video. I'm still a newbie in the drone space with my first drone being the contixo f35 which take amazing video imo, then i got the contixo f36 because of the sub 250g weight and it flies about a km further and the camera is just as good as the f35. I had plan on getting the Neo and still am, but I was able to get a drone for free and since I had to wait until the 8th of Oct to get the Neo I just went ahead and got the Mini 4k and the videos are amazing the controls are amazing and its just a better beginner drone than my other ones and I don't think I will ever pull them out again and they are pretty good beginner drones. Maybe in the future, I may move up to the mini 4 pro or Air, but for now, I'm happy with the Mini 4k. Also, I want to say I feel like the Neo is a selfie drone first and a beginner second, but the Mini 4k is a true beginner drone and they are not in the same category of drones.
hmm a choice? for me? the neo my wife might like it too? she gets selphies often just the ability to take it out of the bag & press a button to select what you want & it does it (?) yeah for a noob like me it looks good.
Still deciding, I have the original mini 2 which is basically the mini 4k so probably don't need the fly-more Neo combo, BUT would like the follow function and quick launch from hand quick shots. At least in South Africa currently the drone is not yet registered, so while there are a lot of online stores getting pre-orders any actual purchases are on hold until they get through all the legislation.
I have the mini 2 and the mini 4k and the video quality going to 4k is definitely noticeable so you don’t basically have a mini 4k 😂 similar but definitely a rise in quality 🎯
@@fishingwithjones thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated. I don't use my Mini 2 enough to warrant an upgrade on that. I would probably use the Neo more for the quick launch features and the tracking - which the Mini 2 and 4k (I guess?) don't have. As of yesterday the Neo has received approval for sale in SOuth Africa and I imagine there is some poor dude(tte) sitting at DJI or somewhere sticking on ICASA (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) stickers as proof of clearance 🙂. If i bite the bullet I won't upgrade the Mini 2 BUT if I want extra batteries and the charge case for the Neo it would basically work out cheaper to get the flymore kit. The decision then is it worth keeping the Mini 2 for the odd cinematic and photo shots... or will the footage from the Neo suffice..? just my ramblings
PLEASEEEE do a comparisson with the Fimi Mini 3. It is the main drone I am considering vs the DJI mini 4K. Similar price point but it shoots at 4K 60FPS and great night mode BUT... I don't know if I trust Fimi over DJI... would love to hear your take on this duel
i have a mini 3 already, so for me, id choose the better in camera, far more range, and wind resistance, because those really matters for me, so in between those 2 id choose the mini 4k, Neo is good but if youre looking for at least a long term drone buy the mini 4k instead, or at least the higher models like mini 4 pro...
If the neo comes at that price without controler, then its not cheapest. The only positive side are bladeguards and quick setings. Other than that, mini 4k has better battery, video quality, wind handeling... If you got kids, buy neo, if you run drone yourself, buy mini 4k. Simple
i noticed that the mini 4k's camera quality is way better than the neo. dealbreaker for me. I wanted to get the neo since it had many features but i went for the mini 2 since the camera quality was significantly better
I have the mini 4k, the Avata 2. I am debating on getting the neo because its small and uses the motion controller and goggles 3. Is it worth getting the Neo as small indoor/office flyer to play with the fpv goggles. Or im not missing much and the Avata 2 is fine. I love the avata as an outdoor flyer but inside its just so loud and so powerful its like a mini indoor tornado making things fly everywhere. I would love the mini as an indoor flyer but the first gen does not connect to the goggles.
One thing that I don't see anyone talking about is having 22GB of onboard memory vs a micro SD card slot. What happens if the on board memory dies or get corrupted, which happens, and it's out of warranty? You'll have to send it into DJI for repair? What's that going to cost?
The Neo sounded great until you put up that first side by side shot and I was blown away at how much better the Mini 4K picture looked.
I bought the NEO since I am a complete nub with drones. I also really liked the fact that the guards were there so my grand children can be around / play with it and not be hurt. I have the mini 4k definitely going to grab the neo too thanks
Transferring files off Neo is pretty slow as well. In this sense I like having the SD card that I can just pop out and quick transfer to my laptop.
Great compare / contrast. Nice job.
Its insane how the Neo had active following and the Mini 3 does not.
I like this video. Thanks! I would compare the Neo to the Hover drone. I love my Hover drone and it literally does fit in my pocket. The Neo does not fold, so it is bigger to carry around. Can you compare the sound capture of the Neo v. the Hover?
My Neo hit 8 trees following me today while biking and still in great shape, Try that with any other drone :P
All clear now !! Thanks Sir !!
For me mini 4k is the best
nice I was looking for this comparison, thank you. oh you forgot your opinion about the noise level
I have both drones and love them both but seem to be flying the Neo more for the fun side of things
Awesome
With the remote can you control some of the video settings on the neo?
Thank you for this Video. Greetings from Germany.
Good video Aldryn
great video thank you !
Only reason I got a Neo is because I already own an avata 2 with googles and rc3 remote. Seems like a solid pickup for avata 2 owners
Exactly this, it’s a no brainer to pick it up in this scenario. I’m having loads of fun with it because of its tiny size.
@@kentao4 because you get to fly X-Wing style round your house and in other places a sub 250g drone can fly 👍
@@MonaroTravels lol fair enough!!
Very helpful. I am into photography and think that a drone could help me take a larger variety of shots. Thank you.
I like to make casual travel videos and photos. I think the neo is as casual as it gets IMHO.
Without even looking the mini is league above Neo. I have both.
Neo is only for automation BUT it’s been a beta experience for many. If you follow groups you see all the issues.
good vid! might buy the neo
Still rocking my mini 2 fly more combo the Neo is Super dope may get it for Xmas as a gift to myself 😂
Nice 👍
I think the Mini 4K is better drone in my opinion.
just for different things
Had a mini 3 hit some trees and it crashed gimbal first. DJI local service center couldnt fix it and just told me to get a new one. Better to get a sturdier drone because absolutely no after market support at least here where i live
The Neo looks like it's over-sharpening in some of those videos -- halos.
Very nice video
Firstly , in Sweden all drones under 250grams fall under the category that don't need any kind of flight experience or licens to fly, how much does the 4k whei?
Thank you for sharing
The Neo is a cat 1 so you can fly over people.
Great information, thanks
Wonder which one would be ideal for indoors where we would program the drone to capture some of the audience and the speaker performing on stage?
Does the Neo work with the goggles N3 and RC2 or N3 controller?
The goggles can be used for VR gaming also.
Thanks for the informative video. I already have a mini2 but I missed the follow me mode, does it worth to sell my mini2 and buy a Neo?
I like your videos much
hmm a choice?
for me? the neo
my wife might like it too? she gets selphies often
just the ability to take it out of the bag & press a button to select what you want & it does it (?)
yeah for a noob like me it looks good.
That was a great video! Drone Pilot in Ohio
No obstacle avoidance sensors on the Neo right?
no
Just the frontcamera.
Thought about getting the neo to do some follow me and overhead views while fishing
😮
I have the mini 2 and the mini 4k and the video quality going to 4k is definitely noticeable so you don’t basically have a mini 4k 😂 similar but definitely a rise in quality 🎯
@@fishingwithjones is it a big difference because I also have the mini 2
What happens to the Neo when you are using Wi-Fi and you go past 50m?
I'd say it auto returns home
I have them both!😊
PLEASEEEE do a comparisson with the Fimi Mini 3. It is the main drone I am considering vs the DJI mini 4K. Similar price point but it shoots at 4K 60FPS and great night mode BUT... I don't know if I trust Fimi over DJI... would love to hear your take on this duel
I don’t have the fimi to compare
i have a mini 3 already, so for me, id choose the better in camera, far more range, and wind resistance, because those really matters for me, so in between those 2 id choose the mini 4k, Neo is good but if youre looking for at least a long term drone buy the mini 4k instead, or at least the higher models like mini 4 pro...
If the neo comes at that price without controler, then its not cheapest. The only positive side are bladeguards and quick setings. Other than that, mini 4k has better battery, video quality, wind handeling...
If you got kids, buy neo, if you run drone yourself, buy mini 4k. Simple
Neo is fun and easy 😊 ❤ from Dj John Sweden.
Neo is good for UL hiking in the backcountry but the 50m range is unfortunately a dealbreaker and I'll bring my Mini 4.
No one talks about the acro mode with the neo and goggles!
i noticed that the mini 4k's camera quality is way better than the neo. dealbreaker for me.
What's that going to cost?
hello should i buy this even with the recent “ban” on dji drones??
