Captain Drone great video, as always. I heard that Xiaomi is planning on releasing a quadcopter in the category. There is still nothing like these 2 top notch mini quads today, 6 months after the DJI Mini 2 launch. For those who want a hobby grade quadcopter, there are so few options under 250 grams. For photography grade quality, only DJI has an offering here. Parrot, Yuneec, and others seem to be focused on their own niches. For those who are looking for a DJI alternative, the options are VERY few. Here are the minimum things I specifications was considering: -Under 250g -Brushless motors -SD card slot -Minimum 1080p camera -20+ minute flight time -GPS, RTH, stable flight You can find all kind of toys out there, and you can find plenty mini drones with brushed motors and no SD card slot under 250 grams (.55 lbs or 8.8 oz). If it isn't DJI, this category will basically put you in "budget drone" territory. So if you want a mini drone that is not made by DJI which meets these requirements, you have even fewer options. The best hobby grade options that meet these requirements are as follows: 1. DJI Mini 2: foldable, best in class 30-31 minute flight time, best in class 4K camera, best in class radio link technology. about $450-590 USD 2. DJI Mavic Mini: foldable, 30 minute flight time, 2.7K camera, for about $400 USD. 3. JJRC X9PS: not foldable, 21 minute flight time, 2 axis gimbal stabilization, DJI Spark-like design with folding props. 25 FPS max?? All for about $225 USD if you opt for 2 batteries. **4. Syma/Cheerwing W1 Pro (about $150 USD for 2 batteries, decent images, no gimbal) [Honorable mention] ** only has 15-18 minute flight time, and no gimbal or image stabilization Captain drone has a great review on the JJRC X9PS as well, but I have not found anything else that comes close!
Hey Cap. Thanks to your original review I got into a Mavic Mini after being interested in drones for years. The kicker was when you went out on your bike and took your Mini with you. I ride too and having a motorcycle friendly drone is awesome. It's been a constant companion, on outings with two wheels and four, even now that it is beginning to freeze in Northern, NY. So far I've put 31 hours on my Mini and flown 227 km and have no regrets. I even got my FAA license here in the states. I'm a frequent viewer of your channel and love your content. I wish the Mini 2 hadn't come out quite so soon after having gotten into the 1, but I love my drone nonetheless.
Can you cover your real thoughts on Autel Evo I. Mine has not made it past 3000ft away without loosing video link and recently board went bad. It is under warranty but only had 3hrs on it and I use it for work. 45days for repair and shipping. Thanks
I have a wall full of so called Budget Drones. Bugs, Holy Stone, Jjrc,Etc Etc. I have never got one of them off the wall since the first day I got the Mini. That little Drone changed everything.
I was thinking the same thing! Yet the Mini1 still is a great bird and if I ever wanted too do a non line of sight flight I always have the MP2! Steve did a great comparison here.
Good to see the test of reception on both behind the school building. Like to see other tests with hills and trees and other things to see how reception differs between mini 1 and mini2.
I love drone especially mavic mini Mavic mini is my dream drone but I can't afford it..and also I am aspiring drone pilot like you...I hope can I have drone in Christmas I hope so.
I sold my Mini 1 on eBay when the Mini 2 came out. I live in an area that has interference and my Mini 1 and I couldn’t get more than 3 blocks away before losing connection and the drone would auto return. Occusync 2 was the tipping point for me.
Just curious, I to flew several of the Bugs drones, and enjoyed. However my last two Bugs 4w, ( great flying drone, good power, excellent hover, but one day out flying( both but two different directions) all of sudden, my Bugs just took off in other direction, very calmly, just like someone had a master transmitter and it continued on into the sunset!!! In my house, RC’s are a family hobby, been wanting to really fly the Bugs 8Pro, for my young son loves FPV, and from videos appears to be quite Zippy depending on the battery you choose to run. What’s your latest Bugs drone? Have you had any issues with yours. In case my story was left untold, my second Bugs 4, that I paid 83.00 more for than my previous one, was bringing straight down for landing, all of sudden drone started rising very fast, sport mode if you please, as far as I could follow into the sky, and I’m sure continued on until motors couldn’t handle the altitude, lol, thanks for your info, 😎
@@danielday4519 I Started off with the bugs I have all of them but the bugs 8 and 20 sure some of them have some good distance the FPV not so good my first DJI drone was the spark and then the mavric air got them off Ebay for really cheap I got the mavric air 299.00 that was the combo with extra masterscrew stealth props a range extender was flown 13 times like new works great you should check it out

@@danielsepulveda912 The Mavic Air 2 weighs over 500g while the mini 2 only weighs 242g so you don't have to subscribe to anything just to fly. Mavic Air 2 wins in almost every other aspect though.
Another great review. Thanks for pointing out the differences, and all the information you provided about the batteries between the two models, that is good stuff to know. Your videos are so well done! I have the Mini 2 but I thought the picture from the Mini 1 actually looked better in your video. I also have the Mavic Air 2, and I definitely think the Air 2 has more solid video than the Mini 2. But DJI likes to do updates, so I'm thinking they will improve the video on the Mini 2 down the road. Just curious looking up drone rules in Canada not supposed to fly over people and stay so many meters away from parks etc? Now since it's under 250 grams does that make a difference. Can you tell me which dji app your using?
Excellent presentation. Very good and thought-out compilation of the different talking points drone buyers are having and exactly what's we needed to differentiate these two products. "DJI has permitted the Mini 2 to record in 4k" - very succinct & sums up it up perfectly ! especially considering the Sensor and Image processor (Amberalla H22) is exactly the same.... Also from a marketing and sales perspective it opens up a new market for the Mini 1 making it more accessible to drone fliers looking to enter the hobby at a lower price point whilst moving up the Mini 2 into the "upsell" or premium category to capture discerning buyers looking for something more... (iphone 11 vrs iphone 11 pro) Clever strategy by DJI BTW too much "Wax" on the Jeep - "even a bug would skid right off"
I would like to have either but I have a fimi x8 se 2020 already on its way because your review on it was awesome and the price on sale couldn't be beat by anyone. Thanks capt.
Thanks for doing such a thorough comparison, Cap'n, it was great to see the side-by-sid pics and video. As someone who just got the Mini 1 last month, it was nice to see that I'm really not missing out on much not having 4K (as I thought), but it was really interesting to see the penetration test, I hadn't thought about the fact that OccSync would have such an advantage. Just another fantastic review from the best in the game - keep safe!
Any additional weight would put it over the line. 250 grams is a tight restriction. In contrast you had far more accessories available for the original Mavic because it could handle a few more grams with no concerns. I almost always land my Mini on my palm.
@@MartinWillett When you say the "original Mavic", I can only assume you are referring to the original Mavic Mini (otherwise why bring a completely different model into the conversation?). And didn't Captain Drone show in the video (and other reviewers have also shown this) that the new Mini 2 weighs LESS than the original Mavic Mini? So when you say the original Mavic could handle a few more grams of weight (allowing it to use more accessories), wouldn't this be MORE TRUE of the new Mini 2, which actually weighs less?
@@dronebubba I meant the original Mavic, the Mavic Pro, because that drone has/had numerous accessories available because it was able to handle them without too much of a performance issue. The Mavic Mini complains about the weight of its prop guards, demanding that you fly it back at once because it overloads the motors (actually the battery). Because any accessory which weighs more than a gram would require you to register the drone (wherever 250 grams is a legal threshold) and it would compromise the already puny ability to fight winds there are very few accessories available for the Mavic Mini. Now the Mini 2 is out with more power we could have an awkward situation in which an accessory might work with both the Mavic Mini and the Mini 2 but would put the Mavic Mini over the weight threshold and compromise its performance whilst the Mini 2 could remain under 250 grams and would not have a significant performance drop. If you want legs, feet, prop guards, skins, sun hoods, floating pontoons, novelty and uprated props and numerous other accessories for the original Mavic. Far fewer accessories are available for almost all other drones. Accessories for the Mavic Mini are very few and far between because of these three factors: anything over a gram puts the Mavic Mini into the over 250-gram category. Secondly adding _anything_ to the Mavic Mini makes it even more compromised on power and thirdly numerous companies made accessories for the Mavic Pro and didn't sell as many as they hoped so they are reluctant to make the same, or worse, mistake again. None of these issues were as significant with, for example, the Spark, which was over 250-grams to start with and had good power output (if poor endurance) and so could support an accessory market. Even putting a skin on a Mavic Mini would risk putting it over the weight limit which would mean it (or you or both) need to be registered.
Hi Steve! Glad you're good. The Mini 2 was announced the day after I bought the Mini 1 Fly More Combo 😁 It's a great drone, but I may exchange it just to get that controller that comes with the Mini 2. I didn't know about that LED headlight! The more I learn about the Mini 2, the better it looks. This is the best side-by-side comparison on RUclips. Thanks always for what you do! Best wishes, always, from Rochester, New York :) Cheers!
In the Netherlands we don't have the TS version of the mavic mini 1 but the european version so the range is in an open field 2 km max with the CE version and with wifi interference spaces you might be glad if you reach 400 meters then ocusync is a huge deal in Europe
I just bought the Holy Stone 700e. I like it except for the fact that the transmitter is sporadic and the weak link of the kit. Very often the Drone does not respond, tho when it responds, it flies well. I am wondering if the Mini 2 will be better or the same? Any Mini 2 users find it loses contact with the remote often? Thanks all. Love this channel.

Thank you for the video. As a begining drone enthusiast I see that the Mini 1 will be a much better choice for me to get into using a quality drone. I have found that a bunch of people are trying to sell their mini 1's with a fly more combo for less than a mini 2 alone because they upgraded.
Happy to see you did this comparison video. I have been feeling a little steamed at you for telling me last March that the magic mini was the best quality beginner drone and if I could get the flymore combo. When this came out and addressed my complaints by upping the power ,going 4K, more lighting and the controller upgrade. But then I had to remember all the cool shots I got etc. But man I find myself wishing I had waited but loved having mini this summer. Thanks for the comparison Steve. I am torn because I would need to sell my mini one now before all the sale prices kick in
Hi Captian This is another great video. Question I see that landing on a vehicle seemed to work okay (provided it isn't a sloped surface). I have thought that taking off and landing from the bed of a pickup truck might be an advantage in some circumstances but have seen a lot of warnings not to do it because of magnetic interference. Do you have any experience with this? Thanks
On my second mini 1in five weeks... let’s just say the first one was for practice, and 30-40ft in a tree and a football to retrieve was pretty dumb haha. But I would say the best channel that I’ve came across for drone information. SUBSCRIBED!
Very well done! Question: Radio transmission is on 2.4GHz. Video transmission is using 5.8GHz. Is it possible to use my FatShark HDO2 goggles to pick up the video? OSD telemetry would be a plus, but not a deal breaker. THANKS!
Nope. In the old days FATSHARK made the DOMINIATOR V3 goggles that were for the DJI Phantom 3 drone, with head tracker unit. You had to use an HDMI cable out from the controller and into the goggles to get video. The same applies today.
Capt Drone... I was thinking that I was the only one trying to land my drone on my hood... fortunately mine didn’t crash and I was able to save it as it’s started to slide on my hood, but when I saw yours and the angle of your hood I freaked out when I saw the mini 2 sliding down the hood, fender and sadly the concrete. Good video as usual. 👍🏼
With the new drone laws is it worthwhile getting the DJI mavic air 2 or am I as well off getting the Mini 2. I am only allowed to fly 120m high and within line of sight( how far is line of sight)

Here are the minimum things I specifications was considering:
-Under 250g
-Brushless motors
-SD card slot
-Minimum 1080p camera
-20+ minute flight time
-GPS, RTH, stable flight
You can find all kind of toys out there, and you can find plenty mini drones with brushed motors and no SD card slot under 250 grams (.55 lbs or 8.8 oz). If it isn't DJI, this category will basically put you in "budget drone" territory. So if you want a mini drone that is not made by DJI which meets these requirements, you have even fewer options. The best hobby grade options that meet these requirements are as follows:
1. DJI Mini 2: foldable, best in class 30-31 minute flight time, best in class 4K camera, best in class radio link technology. about $450-590 USD
**4. Syma/Cheerwing W1 Pro (about $150 USD for 2 batteries, decent images, no gimbal) [Honorable mention]
** only has 15-18 minute flight time, and no gimbal or image stabilization
Captain drone has a great review on the JJRC X9PS as well, but I have not found anything else that comes close!
Even though I'm not interested in the Mavic Mini, this still contains very interesting info about the Mini 2 :)
Thanks
The EVO uses a different type of penetration system (requires more line of sight connection) without obstructions.
I have a wall full of so called Budget Drones. Bugs, Holy Stone, Jjrc,Etc Etc. I have never got one of them off the wall since the first day I got the Mini. That little Drone changed everything.
I was thinking about "upgrading" my Mini 1 to the Mini 2 but your video showed me that it really isn't worth it. Great video comparison though!
OCCUSYNC 2.0 ALONE MAKES IT WORTH IT
I was thinking the same thing! Yet the Mini1 still is a great bird and if I ever wanted too do a non line of sight flight I always have the MP2! Steve did a great comparison here.
Do you think I should bye the mini 2 or should I wait for the mini 3?
17:18 This was destroying my world... 😢 But in 28:45 you really brought it back to life. 😂
Good to see the test of reception on both behind the school building. Like to see other tests with hills and trees and other things to see how reception differs between mini 1 and mini2.
I love my mavic mini too
Excellent report! Comprehensive yet understandable. I'm just getting into drones and your channel is just perfect.
Thank you!
I love drone especially mavic mini
Mavic mini is my dream drone but I can't afford it..and also I am aspiring drone pilot like you...I hope can I have drone in Christmas I hope so.
I sold my Mini 1 on eBay when the Mini 2 came out. I live in an area that has interference and my Mini 1 and I couldn’t get more than 3 blocks away before losing connection and the drone would auto return. Occusync 2 was the tipping point for me.
FINALLY THE MINI "REVIEW"!
thank you for sharing all the tools used for the test
They are fantastic, however cannot afford one. Will have to stick to my Bugs for now.
Me as well. 😕
Nothing wrong with any of the Bugs range............great Drones !!!
I just got a bugs jjrc today!!!! Love it! Best drone I ever owned!!!!
@@danielday4519 I Started off with the bugs I have all of them but the bugs 8 and 20 sure some of them have some good distance the FPV not so good my first DJI drone was the spark and then the mavric air got them off Ebay for really cheap I got the mavric air 299.00 that was the combo with extra masterscrew stealth props a range extender was flown 13 times like new works great you should check it out
Great, comprehensive video Steve. As a photographer I like the freedom that RAW images give me and never having owned any drone before, I think you've just made up my mind for me. Cheers.
Is it me or does the mini 1 provide a better picture?
It's you. Mini 2 has better definition and smoothness. Look at the sky and at his face carefully, and you'll notice the huge difference.
@@renatofdearaujo8997 I disagree. I think the mini 1 picture looks better too
I need ur suggestion, which one is best? I can buy mini or need to wait for Mavic Mini SE😮
MINI 2 is better than MINI SE
Great review! I have watched a lot of other videos and yours of course gives the info others leave out. Excellent comparisons. This video must have been a ton of work!
Awesome! Thank you!
that wrangler had way to much polish too
I love this drone very much its captain drone oh my God I am very like it
I got mini 1I'm soon getting mini 2 theres slot of people talking bad about num 1 seanse num 2 got released but me like you captain think there both still incredible drones high quality video for the price.
To me the mini 1 looked better in 2.7k than the mini 2 in 4k
darker out
mini 2 is nothing amazing compared to the mini 1, I rather keep my Mini 1 and go for the Air 2
The range on the mini 1 is appalling compared to the mini 2.
@@fredstead5652 real life range is not what the paper says, Giving you the example of the Mavic Air 2 that has like 8kms range in specs but the real life test in cities and suburbs you only get like 2km so nothing amazing
Even as it currently is, the Mini 2 has really good video, and in the two weeks I've had it, I've been very impressed with it.

Thank you for all your hard work on top of your day job. You have been my number one drone 'go to' since lockdown as i wrestled with buying a drone which really is a luxury item on my meagre council wage! Black Friday and the discount on the mini 1 equates to me owning a drone..Could have pushed to the 2, but, with your help, understand the 1 is sufficient for my needs. Will continue to follow your channel as it is entertaining as well as informative! Thank you, and to you and all of your subscribers, have a great Christmas and a happy healthy 2021, with love and thanks from Eastbourne England!
Galileo is the European GPS system 🇪🇺
Just curious looking up drone rules in Canada not supposed to fly over people and stay so many meters away from parks etc? Now since it's under 250 grams does that make a difference. Can you tell me which dji app your using?
well I dont have money for a mini, so no mini for christmas this year
Buy the mini 2 and watch your money fly away

(iphone 11 vrs iphone 11 pro) Clever strategy by DJI BTW too much "Wax" on the Jeep - "even a bug would skid right off"
Thats cold🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
I would like to have either but I have a fimi x8 se 2020 already on its way because your review on it was awesome and the price on sale couldn't be beat by anyone. Thanks capt.
Awesome!
Need rubber feet to get a grip when doing Jeep landings!!
Any additional weight would put it over the line. 250 grams is a tight restriction. In contrast you had far more accessories available for the original Mavic because it could handle a few more grams with no concerns. I almost always land my Mini on my palm.
@@MartinWillett TRUE
Cool 👍
nice
Hi Captain Drone! Would you rather buy the Mini 2 or the parrot Anafi ? Could you please tell me I am having that discussion before I purchase one
One is less than 250 grams and the other is more than 250 grams, so it depends what you are looking for in the weight department
1 st ...love your type of content
Thank you so much 😀
In the Netherlands we don't have the TS version of the mavic mini 1 but the european version so the range is in an open field 2 km max with the CE version and with wifi interference spaces you might be glad if you reach 400 meters then ocusync is a huge deal in Europe
At 5:30 did anyone else try to wipe their screen because they thought there was yellow lint on it? 😁
Get a Mini 2, it will be like night and day from what you have now.
I'm a really old man, however after watching your videos I decided to get the mini 2 and I don't know how to fly one Hopefully it's not to difficult. Thanks for your reviews I love watching them

Mavic Pro/Air2/Mini2. I LOVE WATCHING YOUR CHANNEL!!!
That is awesome!
Hey cap,
Can i have this one ?
Thank you for the video. As a begining drone enthusiast I see that the Mini 1 will be a much better choice for me to get into using a quality drone. I have found that a bunch of people are trying to sell their mini 1's with a fly more combo for less than a mini 2 alone because they upgraded.
I think you have the best drone channel on RUclips!
Thank you!
Excellent comparison and information on both drones. Really helpful, thanks.
I am torn because I would need to sell my mini one now before all the sale prices kick in
Hi Captian
This is another great video.
Question
I see that landing on a vehicle seemed to work okay (provided it isn't a sloped surface). I have thought that taking off and landing from the bed of a pickup truck might be an advantage in some circumstances but have seen a lot of warnings not to do it because of magnetic interference.
Do you have any experience with this?
Thanks
Great work on that video Captain ,that is top notch editing and lots of work ,you are very good at what you do ,thanks buddy.
Thanks 👍
On my second mini 1in five weeks... let’s just say the first one was for practice, and 30-40ft in a tree and a football to retrieve was pretty dumb haha. But I would say the best channel that I’ve came across for drone information. SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks for the sub & welcome to the channel!
But isn’t 5.8GHz, 5.8GHz? How is it prioritized only for DJI? Shouldn’t any 5.8GHz receiver pick up the signal?
Capt Drone... I was thinking that I was the only one trying to land my drone on my hood... fortunately mine didn’t crash and I was able to save it as it’s started to slide on my hood, but when I saw yours and the angle of your hood I freaked out when I saw the mini 2 sliding down the hood, fender and sadly the concrete. Good video as usual. 👍🏼
With the new drone laws is it worthwhile getting the DJI mavic air 2 or am I as well off getting the Mini 2.
I am only allowed to fly 120m high and within line of sight( how far is line of sight)
I'd say either wait until you officially know what any new drone regulations are in your area, or get yourself a Mini
