At the 21:33 time I thought the OLD MINI 1 vid looked better to me....seemed crispier at 2.7K but thtas me...LOL. Still will get the MINI 2.

Hi Steve im a newbie about drones but bought the DjI mini 2 on the strength of your review,and now strangly addicted to your videos, we have a weird orange moon in the uk would i need a filter on the mini if sent it up early evening to photograph it?
Thanks for checking out the vids. The mini 2 camera is not designed for low light or night filming so things would look not the greatest, however filming a sunset or sunrise should look good.

Love your content. I own the mini 1. Got it a few years ago. I wanted to start getting into doing inspections. Is it a good drone for that or do I need to upgrade to the mini 2 because watching this video there really isn’t much of a difference between the 2 in regards to image quality?

What’s a raw photo Captain?
A RAW photo is a photo that has no color profile or image enhancement added to it. You must then take the RAW photo (that looks terrible) and place it in a professional photo editor to bring it to life. It allows you to adjust the exposure perfectly after the image was taken to get an amazing image.

I updated to the Mini 2 from the 1 due to the 4K, Occusync and the camera/raw, etc, I had lots of issues with the Mini 1 and the connection loss that caused me to lose faith and confidence in flying it, due to the lockdown in the UK I have not flown the Mini 2 much :( hopefully, it will give me more confidence that I am in control :)
Does 4k and 2.7 k really make a difference tho?
@@dosomestuff1949 The 4K is definitely an improvement over 1080p in my opinion and looking at my video straight out of the camera. I haven't tended to put 4k videos on my channel at the moment, but while editing and playback it looks great. The 2.7k just seems weird to me as I am not sure how a 4k TV or even a 1080p screen can even process and display it properly. The Camera RAW photos give a lot more detail than the Jpegs and the occusync works really well compared to my previous mini 1. The Mini 1 was and still is a fantastic piece of kit though and if you are less fussy over 4k and having better quality photos from the RAW images and better connection to the controller then price of the Mini 2 is probably not worth it.
@@woodydroneson 4k is better than 1080p for sure, but a 4K display displays 2.7 k just fine. I’ve seen comparisons between the mini 2 and mini 1 video and there’s barely a difference. A 4k screen displays 2.7k just like how a 1080p screen can still process and display 720p.
@@dosomestuff1949 Thanks I have never really compared the difference between the 2.7k so that sounds interesting, maybe if I take a bit of video at both 4K and 2.7K and then use VLC player to save a frame from the video and check out the pixels when zooming in. Yes I agree you can view 720, 1080 2.7K and 4K on a 4K screen, and as you say the 2.7K may look almost as good, but I am sure there must be some sort of computing wizardry merging pixels etc to display. Strangley though I am pretty sure that sometimes watching a 4K version of as video compared to 1080 on my standard 1080 computer screen there seems to be better clarity. Interesting discussion :)

Come on Captain. You live in Canada. Your coat should never be in storage. 😜We did try the Mini 2 but returned it. After owning the Mavic Air 2 you can't get away from the toy-like feel of it. So we got another Mavic Air 2. It's really cool flying two Mavic Air 2 drones together, Me and my son. A fun hobby for sure! 👊
I'm glad you pointed that out about the batteries because 2 other drone channels said the batteries are compatible with each other but you showed there not.

I just bought a used Mini 1 with two batteries for $400CAD... too good a deal to pass up. I might upgrade at some time in the future but for now, wow what a great drone!

Another difference that you missed is the Mavic Mini uses micro USB and the DJI Mini 2 uses USB-C. That goes for the drone and the charging station. Other than that you did a great job Steve at comparing them and showing the differences. 👍

The light on the mini 2 was supposed to be an obstacle avoidance sensor but they change their mind and installed a light instead.That’s what I think.

@@fredstead5652 real life range is not what the paper says, Giving you the example of the Mavic Air 2 that has like 8kms range in specs but the real life test in cities and suburbs you only get like 2km so nothing amazing
@@danielsepulveda912 The Mavic Air 2 weighs over 500g while the mini 2 only weighs 242g so you don't have to subscribe to anything just to fly. Mavic Air 2 wins in almost every other aspect though.

The remote is what has me sold on getting the Mini 2 as I don't like removing my case to mount my phone. The 4k, better wind resistance, and extra minute of flight time is not so much a big deal to me.

I just got a bugs jjrc today!!!! Love it! Best drone I ever owned!!!!
Just curious, I to flew several of the Bugs drones, and enjoyed. However my last two Bugs 4w, ( great flying drone, good power, excellent hover, but one day out flying( both but two different directions) all of sudden, my Bugs just took off in other direction, very calmly, just like someone had a master transmitter and it continued on into the sunset!!! In my house, RC’s are a family hobby, been wanting to really fly the Bugs 8Pro, for my young son loves FPV, and from videos appears to be quite Zippy depending on the battery you choose to run. What’s your latest Bugs drone? Have you had any issues with yours. In case my story was left untold, my second Bugs 4, that I paid 83.00 more for than my previous one, was bringing straight down for landing, all of sudden drone started rising very fast, sport mode if you please, as far as I could follow into the sky, and I’m sure continued on until motors couldn’t handle the altitude, lol, thanks for your info, 😎
@@danielday4519 I Started off with the bugs I have all of them but the bugs 8 and 20 sure some of them have some good distance the FPV not so good my first DJI drone was the spark and then the mavric air got them off Ebay for really cheap I got the mavric air 299.00 that was the combo with extra masterscrew stealth props a range extender was flown 13 times like new works great you should check it out

Question: Radio transmission is on 2.4GHz. Video transmission is using 5.8GHz. Is it possible to use my FatShark HDO2 goggles to pick up the video? OSD telemetry would be a plus, but not a deal breaker. THANKS!
Nope. In the old days FATSHARK made the DOMINIATOR V3 goggles that were for the DJI Phantom 3 drone, with head tracker unit. You had to use an HDMI cable out from the controller and into the goggles to get video. The same applies today.
But isn’t 5.8GHz, 5.8GHz? How is it prioritized only for DJI? Shouldn’t any 5.8GHz receiver pick up the signal?
Love how much input you put into your videos, to show the public and first time drone buyers the true differences between the two amazing Mini’s. Being a Mini owner I look to you before making quick decisions and spending my hard earned money. I’m a little let down with my pre-formed opinion of Occu Sync, for in my head 6 miles, and a unstoppable RC signal!! Galileo is developed by the EU. It's the newest of the three. GPS is owned by the US and GLONASS is owned by Russia. GLONASS satellites are at an altitude of about 11,890 miles which is about a 600 mile difference from GPS. All do about the same thing, just better to have the availability of all three in case one goes pop.

It's you. Mini 2 has better definition and smoothness. Look at the sky and at his face carefully, and you'll notice the huge difference.

Can you cover your real thoughts on Autel Evo I. Mine has not made it past 3000ft away without loosing video link and recently board went bad. It is under warranty but only had 3hrs on it and I use it for work. 45days for repair and shipping. Thanks
The EVO uses a different type of penetration system (requires more line of sight connection) without obstructions.
Captain four jackets on? Oh man, lol. Still no obstacle avoidance sensors in the Mini 2 when some toy drones have them installed, they don't take up that much weight. Why does DJI leave them out? Mini 2 the image looks darker than the Mini 1.

Hi mate I have both but my mavic mini batteries weigh anywhere from 89.9 grams to 90.2 but with the heavier battery and a nd filter it 250grams hmmmm. Mini 2 with nd filter weights 237.8grams.
I'm not sure about the line light on the front of the mini 2, it looks kinda weird. They should have put 2 lights on the two front arms, like the other mavics. Since the mini 2 I a bit lighter, they could have done that with making it over the weight limit

Uhh?...I don't know if anyone told you but the video on the Mini1 was better than the Mini 2 or brighter at least. Maybe that could be adjusted but it was clearly brighter and for me had more clarity. The Mini 2 video seemed darker.
I was thinking about "upgrading" my Mini 1 to the Mini 2 but your video showed me that it really isn't worth it. Great video comparison though!
OCCUSYNC 2.0 ALONE MAKES IT WORTH IT
I was thinking the same thing! Yet the Mini1 still is a great bird and if I ever wanted too do a non line of sight flight I always have the MP2! Steve did a great comparison here.
In the Netherlands we don't have the TS version of the mavic mini 1 but the european version so the range is in an open field 2 km max with the CE version and with wifi interference spaces you might be glad if you reach 400 meters then ocusync is a huge deal in Europe

Any additional weight would put it over the line. 250 grams is a tight restriction. In contrast you had far more accessories available for the original Mavic because it could handle a few more grams with no concerns. I almost always land my Mini on my palm.

@@MartinWillett When you say the "original Mavic", I can only assume you are referring to the original Mavic Mini (otherwise why bring a completely different model into the conversation?). And didn't Captain Drone show in the video (and other reviewers have also shown this) that the new Mini 2 weighs LESS than the original Mavic Mini? So when you say the original Mavic could handle a few more grams of weight (allowing it to use more accessories), wouldn't this be MORE TRUE of the new Mini 2, which actually weighs less?
@@dronebubba I meant the original Mavic, the Mavic Pro, because that drone has/had numerous accessories available because it was able to handle them without too much of a performance issue. The Mavic Mini complains about the weight of its prop guards, demanding that you fly it back at once because it overloads the motors (actually the battery). Because any accessory which weighs more than a gram would require you to register the drone (wherever 250 grams is a legal threshold) and it would compromise the already puny ability to fight winds there are very few accessories available for the Mavic Mini. Now the Mini 2 is out with more power we could have an awkward situation in which an accessory might work with both the Mavic Mini and the Mini 2 but would put the Mavic Mini over the weight threshold and compromise its performance whilst the Mini 2 could remain under 250 grams and would not have a significant performance drop.
If you want legs, feet, prop guards, skins, sun hoods, floating pontoons, novelty and uprated props and numerous other accessories for the original Mavic. Far fewer accessories are available for almost all other drones. Accessories for the Mavic Mini are very few and far between because of these three factors: anything over a gram puts the Mavic Mini into the over 250-gram category. Secondly adding _anything_ to the Mavic Mini makes it even more compromised on power and thirdly numerous companies made accessories for the Mavic Pro and didn't sell as many as they hoped so they are reluctant to make the same, or worse, mistake again.
None of these issues were as significant with, for example, the Spark, which was over 250-grams to start with and had good power output (if poor endurance) and so could support an accessory market. Even putting a skin on a Mavic Mini would risk putting it over the weight limit which would mean it (or you or both) need to be registered.
I got a Mavic mini with 3 batteries and charger etc for £100 and then started watching videos about DJI drones , now I should of waited and got a mini 2 or something else lol

As an amateur photog who just wants to get some cool hi-res vids and pics, the Mavic Mini ssems like the better value IMO. I do like the zoom function on the Mini 2 though so....dang it, so hard to make up my mind! Actually was thinking of the HS720e instead since it is less than half the price of the Mini 2 and less than 2/3 the price of the Mini....and that's just the drone, not the combo.

The comparison we have been waiting for !!!; I guess highlights how good the original Mini still is !! Video (assume standard settings on both?) on the Mini 1 looked less "saturated / dark" compared to the Mini 2 and thought the "detail / sharpness" on the 1 was pretty damn comparable !!!; great comparison Captain and loved the "cartoon segueing" of your good self !!! nice effect!
Oh Dear oh Dear Captain!; going through Captain Drone review withdrawal !!!!; revisited this as I picked up a Mini 1 today for $200 AUS (only 6 battery cycles) and compared the footage to the Mini 3 Pro; very surprising outcome; colour profile on the 3 Pro looks better however the overall image (sharpness in particular) looks very similar!!!; cant wait for that comparison between the Spark (and you made an interesting comment regards the sensor) and all DJI Mini Drones that have come after !!!

Got a good deal on a mini 2 and WoW is it impressive. Looks like a indoor toy drone at first compared to my 550g drone. But does it ever have power!

i just receive my mini 2, and cant find the spot to chang the front light, ive seen it in videos. in the videos its right under a light control, but no colors.

I would of got the mini 2 if it had a smaller controller.
The reason why these small drones are so cool its there portability. Its makes no sense why they made the controller bigger than the drone.

The law in the us is if the company operates in that state, you have to pay state tax. So if you order from walmart, youre always going to pay tax. But if you order from ma-pops shoes in new york, youre only paying state tax in new york. Hope that helps.
Which city are you in? Aren't Canadian drone laws very restrictive? I've been thinking of buying but even provincial parks are off limits.
The drone is under 250 grams.... Canadian Drone laws apply very little.
CAPTAIN DRONE i live in the GTA and it's mostly a no fly which I believe still apply to under 250 gram drones.

I have the Mini 1 and I don't find the reason to upgrade to Upgrade to mini 2; Mavic air 2 seems better option
