I've had the mini2 for about a month. I'm so hooked, probably getting the air2 this spring/summer. BIG into photography. SLR/D-SLR since the late 70's. Wanted to extend my photography skills. Started with the mini2 and am HOOKED!
Found 2 Drones I believe someone forgot to put in their car as Drones were on edge of parking space. 1 little one at 4 inches radius an AD Drone and 1 bigger 1 ( Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition ) at 2 feet across 2 feet wide or 4 feet radius I believe. Little one works but controlling is not for kids and more like a pilot in helicopter controls. Big one I need a battery and charger which I will buy on next payday. Never really into due to $$$ but since I found these 2 Drones, enthusiasm has put me into my new hobby. Im hooked and find it very fun and interesting to upgrade or even built on if I can. Love these and addicted..
Hi Steve, Following your advice I purchased a year ago Hubsan Zino, as my first drone. I am very happy with it and for now I do not plan to get any other drone. It fits perfectly my needs. The best thing on DJI Mini 2 is more powerful motors that now have no problem flying in higher winds, my Mavic Mini 1 gets wind warnings a lot even when not bad. Was getting 25 mph and higher gust on the beach the other day and still have not even had one wind warning with Mini 2. That was the biggest limitation with Mini 1 but still love them both 👍
Please be aware of the following so there is no confusion. DJI put the high wind warning into every drone so that if you crash your drone, they will review the logs and find that the high wind warning alert was raised and possibly deny your free repair claim. The warning is not based on the drone and wind, but rather the speed of the motors and forward movement (the drone then assumes if forward speed is slow in relation to prop speed, the warning comes on).

In my opinion anyone looking to get there first Drone be patient and save for one of these instead of the WIFI Budget Drones. All the nightmares will be gone before they ever start. I guarantee if you get a budget Drone at some point it will be crashed or flyaway and all the hassle makes them useless. I would love to have half the money I spent on Budget Drones. After buying all the recommended brands and being frustrated on every flight I finally got the Mavic Mini. On the very first flight it was like I just got out of a Ford Pinto and hopped in a Bentley. The Confidence alone was a game changer. Never a worry at all. Smooth as it can get. Don’t waste your hard earned money. Save up and buy Reliability Confidence and most of all Happiness.

Thanks for all the info. I'm a retired commercial pilot and a newbie drone pilot. Your information has been spectacular, and VERY helpful. I started with the DJI Mavic Mini a year ago and have picked the Mavic Air 2 to be my permanent flyer - you had a lot to do with that. Live in Utah - love Canada - could use more info about cold weather flying.
I just got the Mini, turns out it has the same camera as Mini 2 (just upscale the resolution to 4K and it looks about the same). A 5 dollar Yagi antenna or parabolic mirror is a nice boost to signal range and the best part is that there are plenty of DYI upgrades you can do, if you're into that.

I have a Mavic Mini (not the 2) and it can't take more than the slightest breeze. I had one flyaway, and after replacing I've been more careful, but had a close call. I'm looking at the air 2s but the zino and mini2 are appealing for that throw it in the backpack portability!

Great shopping list. I just bought my first DJI ...the Mini 2. After purchasing an MJX B7 and waiting over 5 months for a replacement for a defective original I broke down and bought a DJI. You seemed to prefer the Mavic Mini over the Mini 2 but forgot to mention the increased wind resistance of the Mini 2 over the Mavic Mini due to slightly stronger motors and played down OccuSynch which is much more reliable. I chose it also because of the controller, never did like the phone at the bottom. I am a registered pilot with Transport Canada so the less than 250g only appeals to me for portability and less red tape as in logging my flights etc. Can't wait for spring.
$$ Value wise the MAVIC MINI is currently a better deal (when it is on sale). Eventually once all MAVIC MINIs are gone, it won't be around any longer. If you have not seen my WHY I LOVE THE MINIs video, check it out and it will explain why the Mini 2 is better in the wind.
Captain, You are stand alone Drone rating system, in my opinion. After hours of reviews I bought my first and second drone and am very pleased with their performance. G Captain, that's a great round up of compatible machines. The 2020 SE has 8 Km range, I think the 2020 had the 5 Km range That Zino 2 plus looks the goods and I reckon value for money too.
I have a DJI Mavic 2 zoom. I bought a mini to take hiking, throw in my cargo pocket. Also just my personal opinion is the mini two has a remote that is overly sized for my application.

Just got my c-fly fath2, vary nice, just wish it had landing lites like the mjx quad's have. If they make 1 with lites I will buy it for sure, it fly's vary nice 🙂
Hi Captain. A question/comment for you (or anyone)... I have numerous times heard you mention that people should only look to sub 250g drones if they need to be under the weight legally or have a specific use case. Why specifically? I disagree in regards to the DJI Mini 2. I have purchased my first drone with a budget for top of hobby drones but less than a DJI Mavic Air 2. My desire is light videography. Size was not an issue for me as I plan on getting my FAA Part 107 license (I'm already a pilot). After numerous reviews I found two drones that met my needs, the Zino 2+ and the DJI Mini 2. I actually ordered the Zino first but after watching more (and more and more) reviews of the two I noticed the stability of the DJI to be considerably better, the service of DJI has a better reputation, and DJI being the de-facto leader in the consumer drone market lent to more comfort in the purchase of the Mini 2. So to me, the fact that the Mini 2 is sub-250g had no bearing on my choice (I'd actually prefer a larger drone) but that there is simply no other choice I know of between that and the Air 2 (currently sold, good service in the US, established name brand with a good reputation). Thank you for the great videos you produce.
I have DJI Mavic Air, and DJI Spark...I kind of prefer the Spark even though it's 2 axis Gimble. Still haven't used all the features in either but wow! What a blast ! The GPS alone is insane. Though flying in sport mode REMEMBER that shuts off the sensors for object avoidance. I failed to do so and crashed the Mav Air. Fortunately it only effected the Props in the fall. The Xino Pro Plus looks like a great catch !

You can take off anywhere and it is your responsibility as the pilot to know where you can and can not fly. DJI does this for you, so if you are a complete uninformed person about drone regulations, DJI drones will check for you and won't fly if you're breaking the rules.

Magic Air 2 or one of these cheaper Amazon ones like the Xiaomi Fimi X8 or Hunsan Zino 2 or the many other options available. Basically for filming cars I suppose I should get the DJI for obstacle avoidance or the Skydio. But they are very expensive and I'm not sure I'll ever recoup the cost.

Hi Captain Drone. I have just bought Mavic Air 2. I really love it. My wish and only wish is that I could get more flight time. I know that a lot of people can attach outside battery and flight 40 minutes more. But I could not find a really easy instruction video how to do it in the most easy way. It would be fantastic and I really appreciate if you know and make a video how to do it. It gonna be my dream.

Thanks man, I'm looking for one in this price range. Narrowing my choices down and saw this and the other drones under $300 video. When i get down to 3 top choices will run them by a friend who knows a whole lot more about drones than I do. I'm mostly wanting to know about picture quality, but hat doesn't mean diddly if the drone itself is a dud. Mostly want to use the drone for crane/boom shots in videos.
@@1QKGLH I flew without my smartphone and just used the RC controller. Drone worked fine for about 20 flights. On the 21st flight, she flew away. I did everything right. No winds, GPS mode, etc... Autel did not help because I had no flight logs or info to provide. LOgs and info that could only come from the APP which I wasn't using. (just the RC)
And when I used Litchi app with my phantom 3 Pro 4k drone, I didn't have any flight restrictions 🤔 It let me take off 1km from the airport and gave me some awesome pictures from planes taking off and landing 😊

Hi Steve, I am owning a dji mini but I am not very happy with the downlink and lags of the video connection. Also, the dynamic range of the sensor is not really great. Now I am looking for a new mini drone, mostly for photography and occasional videos. Way points would be great, obstacle avoidance a bonus. But the stable video connection is most important. What mini drone would you recommend from your personal experience?

This is an excellent review of a wide range of drones. I'm glad that you touched on the issue of software-driven flight restrictions. While well-intentioned, DJI's FlySafe 'feature' is a total pain when it over-rides authority given by national agencies. #DJI #FlySafe. One thing that you didn't mention was whether the drones have the necessary approval in Canada for Advanced Operation. That might be important to some subscribers.
Thank you Steve for the great compilation review! I was checking on the Canadian site for authorized drones - if you have an advanced drone pilot licence - and all but the Hubsans can be used in Canadian controlled airspace. Looking at the Parot, Fimi and Autel as they do not have blockers, but will first keep practicing with my HolyStone and JJRC before making that move!

You seemed to prefer the Mavic Mini over the Mini 2 but forgot to mention the increased wind resistance of the Mini 2 over the Mavic Mini due to slightly stronger motors and played down OccuSynch which is much more reliable. I chose it also because of the controller, never did like the phone at the bottom. I am a registered pilot with Transport Canada so the less than 250g only appeals to me for portability and less red tape as in logging my flights etc. Can't wait for spring.
$$ Value wise the MAVIC MINI is currently a better deal (when it is on sale). Eventually once all MAVIC MINIs are gone, it won't be around any longer. If you have not seen my WHY I LOVE THE MINIs video, check it out and it will explain why the Mini 2 is better in the wind.
Captain, You are stand alone Drone rating system, in my opinion. After hours of reviews I bought my first and second drone and am very pleased with their performance.

I have a DJI Mavic 2 zoom. I bought a mini to take hiking, throw in my cargo pocket. Also just my personal opinion is the mini two has a remote that is overly sized for my application.

Hi Captain. A question/comment for you (or anyone)... I have numerous times heard you mention that people should only look to sub 250g drones if they need to be under the weight legally or have a specific use case. Why specifically? I disagree in regards to the DJI Mini 2. I have purchased my first drone with a budget for top of hobby drones but less than a DJI Mavic Air 2. My desire is light videography. Size was not an issue for me as I plan on getting my FAA Part 107 license (I'm already a pilot). After numerous reviews I found two drones that met my needs, the Zino 2+ and the DJI Mini 2. I actually ordered the Zino first but after watching more (and more and more) reviews of the two I noticed the stability of the DJI to be considerably better, the service of DJI has a better reputation, and DJI being the de-facto leader in the consumer drone market lent to more comfort in the purchase of the Mini 2. So to me, the fact that the Mini 2 is sub-250g had no bearing on my choice (I'd actually prefer a larger drone) but that there is simply no other choice I know of between that and the Air 2 (currently sold, good service in the US, established name brand with a good reputation). Thank you for the great videos you produce.

I have DJI Mavic Air, and DJI Spark...I kind of prefer the Spark even though it's 2 axis Gimble. Still haven't used all the features in either but wow! What a blast ! The GPS alone is insane. Though flying in sport mode REMEMBER that shuts off the sensors for object avoidance. I failed to do so and crashed the Mav Air. Fortunately it only effected the
Props in the fall.

What do you mean by no flight restrictions?
You can take off anywhere and it is your responsibility as the pilot to know where you can and can not fly. DJI does this for you, so if you are a complete uninformed person about drone regulations, DJI drones will check for you and won't fly if you're breaking the rules.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 okay, great. Thanks. I'm looking at buying my 1st drone mostly for RUclips and I'm new to all this. I'm overwhelmed as to which drone to buy though. Magic Air 2 or one of these cheaper Amazon ones like the Xiaomi Fimi X8 or Hunsan Zino 2 or the many other options available. Basically for filming cars I suppose I should get the DJI for obstacle avoidance or the Skydio. But they are very expensive and I'm not sure I'll ever recoup the cost.

Hi Captain Drone. I have just bought Mavic Air 2. I really love it. My wish and only wish is that I could get more flight time. I know that a lot of people can attach outside battery and flight 40 minutes more. But I could not find a really easy instruction video how to do it in the most easy way. It would be fantastic and I really appreciate if you know and make a video how to do it. It gonna be my dream.
I think you are stuck with having multiple batteries. Usually people find 30 mins of flight time to be sufficient for the range of the drone.
I really like the DJI Mavic Air 2 but not the flight restrictions that go along with it - what would you say would be the closest match without the restrictions?

I was watching your budget drone videos , and seen a mavic mini 2nd hand for £100 with 3 batteries, its my first drone and i do like it but wish i could fly further , without loosing signal .. great little drone tho
Thanks man, I'm looking for one in this price range. Narrowing my choices down and saw this and the other drones under $300 video. When i get down to 3 top choices will run them by a friend who knows a whole lot more about drones than I do. I'm mostly wanting to know about picture quality, but hat doesn't mean diddly if the drone itself is a dud. Mostly want to use the drone for crane/boom shots in videos.
I have the Autel Evo and love it. I had a Mavic Mini, and the Evo is better. The images and video are better than the Mavic and my Phantom 4 Pro.
Make sure fly it with your smartphone and note their RC controller alone. If something goes wrong and it flies away, you're out of luck.

@@1QKGLH I flew without my smartphone and just used the RC controller. Drone worked fine for about 20 flights. On the 21st flight, she flew away. I did everything right. No winds, GPS mode, etc... Autel did not help because I had no flight logs or info to provide. LOgs and info that could only come from the APP which I wasn't using. (just the RC)
And when I used Litchi app with my phantom 3 Pro 4k drone, I didn't have any flight restrictions 🤔 It let me take off 1km from the airport and gave me some awesome pictures from planes taking off and landing 😊

I am owning a dji mini but I am not very happy with the downlink and lags of the video connection. Also, the dynamic range of the sensor is not really great.
Now I am looking for a new mini drone, mostly for photography and occasional videos. Way points would be great, obstacle avoidance a bonus. But the stable video connection is most important. What mini drone would you recommend from your personal experience?
You could wait for the very expensive DJI MINI 3 or get yourself a Hubsan ZINO Mini SE or PRO.

This is an excellent review of a wide range of drones. I'm glad that you touched on the issue of software-driven flight restrictions. While well-intentioned, DJI's FlySafe 'feature' is a total pain when it over-rides authority given by national agencies. #DJI #FlySafe. One thing that you didn't mention was whether the drones have the necessary approval in Canada for Advanced Operation. That might be important to some subscribers.
I think those with an ADVANCED RPAS Certificate in Canada would have researched such information... If not, we are all in for a world of hurt.

Thank you Steve for the great compilation review! I was checking on the Canadian site for authorized drones - if you have an advanced drone pilot licence - and all but the Hubsans can be used in Canadian controlled airspace. Looking at the Parot, Fimi and Autel as they do not have blockers, but will first keep practicing with my HolyStone and JJRC before making that move!

Good morning Steve! I was wondering why the CFly Faith 2 didn't make it to this review. The review for that drone really caught my attention for bang for your buck. We're any of these that much better, maybe on the app side or the hardware?
