Bought this when I was in GRADE 7 in 2018. After 5 years of flying, it finally gave out, malfunctioning and dumping itself into the Atlantic ocean in spectacular fashion. That drone was an absolute beast, and deserves more love than it gets. It is still one of the most agile non fpv dji drones out there, easily the cleanest looking, and for its time, was peak budget photography. (Just upgraded to a mini 4 pro, thank you spark for getting me into this community :))
You can use an OTG cable between the controller and the mobile device. By using an OTG cable, the drone's range will be significantly improved, and the live video feed to the mobile device will be smoother.
I bought the Spark back in early 2018. I remember watching your videos about it before I purchased it. I miss the days of smaller drones that were heavier and flew better in the wind. I loved the features this drone had, from the lights underneath to the charger that would charge all the batteries at the same time! Ahh the memories!
Mavic Air version 1 was an incredible technology. The camera was outstanding and I like that one option "Tap to fly". I think it was called that. You just send it out in a direction and then you could just operate the gimbal and the yaw filming everything below without worrying about the direction. No matter how you turned the drone it kept flying to that point that you tapped.
@@mandofan2616 you can buy drones like that. And you can buy attachments for drones like fishing rigs that you fly a mile from the beach and drop the bait in the deep water. They make all kinds of lights for drones. Or you can build your own drone and put whatever you want on it.
I love the idea of revisiting part drones to see how they hold up. The Spark was my go-to drone for the panorama shots! Got some great skyscapes from it!
Like you said Steve. Still a great little drone, when it comes to video quality, compared to budget drones of today. Brings back lots of fond memories.
I absolutely love the revisiting of the spark. I have a friend with a spark and they will absolutely freak out when I show them the gesture mode. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Steve.👋👍😀💯.. a classic revisit of a great little drone. Wow so much snow ❄️❄️🌫️ up there. I haven't seen that much snow ❄️ here since I was a kid. Thank you so very much for bringing back a classic drone. Hope to see more soon. God bless you and your family always 🙏. Have a great week
This was so much fun with the revisit of the spark. Love the idea of revisiting old school drones too. I have been flying since 2015 and I still fly my DJI Spark on occasions of feeling nostalgic lol. Thank you 😀
I still use the Spark and actually love that the arms don’t fold. Less to setup when you want to get up and fly quick. The quick release props are something that isn’t on the mini series why not I’ll never know. I do reach for the spark sometimes when I travel due to its size, ruggedness, and reliability. I own a ton of drones but the spark will always be one of my favorites.
The mini series has no quick release props because of weight reasons. To get a drone under 250 grams you need to get rid of everything that is not 100% necessary. I think thats also the reason why the mini 3 pro has no landing legs on the front arms unlike the mini 3 wich has them, because of not having the weight of the obstacle sensors…
Advertisment quote from the brewery's of Saint Polly Girl Beer, ..." You never forget your first one." The Spark was my first time and enjoyed it.. multiple times. 😊
The spark was my first drone. I was so intrigued about getting pictures and video from a higher perspective. I knew nothing about flying drones and learned everything from you tube which included your channel. Now have the Mavic Air 2 and still loving it!
My Spark still gets put into my trail pack when I go out running in the mountains. With a bit of forward planning and a light touch on the sticks this little dinosaur is still capable of getting some great shots.
Great video, must say I have kept mine and still love flying it , I have other drones but still always impressed with its build and flight characteristics, and that camera is still good.
I did enjoy reminiscing about spark. You motivated me to get mine out, I will fly her tomorrow. I had forgotten how heavy-duty spark is, the arms are so thick and strong., they would never break in a crash. Thanks Captain, good , and fun video.
My first drone was the DJI Spark back in 2018! I think it is quite a success as it brought a lot of people into the hobby. Even though the range is not great, it isn't foldable, and the flight time is short, it forced us to fly very efficiently and was a lot of fun, paving the way for a future upgrade (Which I did (Mavic 2 Zoom)) - it is so light and easy to set up that I brought it to a lot more places than my M2Z
I got the red Spark three years ago and still use it!! Love the little guy! A long with 5 batteries. Definitely gotten my money’s worth out of it. As I’ve flown it hundreds of times now! And it’s still running strong. I’d love to get a newer version this year. One with longer running time with the battery and all. But I’ll always keep the little Spark as my goto. It’s been a blast, and I’ve gotten amazing pics and videos at 400 feet!! Love this hobby!
I pulled mine out last night to see if it still worked. For some reason the app won't load up. I saw all of the reviews from people having the same issue. My question to you is what app are you using to fly your Spark?
I used mine at the weekend and use the DJI go 4 app. It pops up with an available update when the drone connects but I’ve not bothered with it as I don’t want to run the risk of it not working
That was cool it reminds you how fast time is passing us by its cool to see some evolution too looking forward revisiting some pass and forgotten products till next time 👍
A wonderful revisiting of the spark ! Thanks. This drone was my first step into drone-hobby, I remember ;-) I bought it second hand and used it some month until I wanted more video-quality and made the step to other drones. But I like the innovating spark yet and it was a pleasure to see it in your revisit 👏👏👍
I still have mine. I got it out the other day to take some photos of my friends house under construction. I was having the same issue with Bluetooth warnings and constantly disconnects. I put my Apple Watch and iPhone into aeroplane mode with only the wifi on my phone turned on and then set the Spark to 2.4ghz manually in the app and that improved things a lot. It’s still a pretty laggy video feed which makes it hard to take smooth footage but just as a toy it’s still pretty awesome. If I sold it it would probably only be worth like $200 NZD so I may as well just keep it. Thinking about buying the Mini 4 Pro but I’m having a hard time justifying it. It’s on sale right now.
I absolutely love this quad ....and thank you so much for another great video ...Makes me wish I had this Quad as I fly mostly FPV and this would be an amazing quad to take air shots and follow vids
Like a lot of people here I still have my Spark and fly it every now and then. I really like the quality of the still jpegs, they are clean and have a lot of color in them. I have an add on set of prop guards for inside flying also. Something a lot of modern drones don’t have!
Hi Steve, I've been watching your channel for a long time. Glad you revisited the Spark. You made me take my Spark fly more combo out of the closet. Similar to you the batteries did not initially start up they're almost charged now. The Spark although an antique holds a lot of good memories of me. It's been a solid reliable, but not too portable little drone for the last 7 years or so. Can wait to fly it later today. Sending you warm thoughts from Florida! Carl
'No Wonder You Went Extinct' 😆 Awesome series , keep visiting the legacy drones. The Spark was very popular here and fetches about $150 on the pre owned market. Great informative video!
Saw one in an online auction. Bought a controller. Introducing myself to drones for $220, everything seems to work, gonna try and fly it soon when not so busy at work.
I had the park too. As my first drone. My case was the Casey by GoPro with a little modification I got the remote sticks on, drone and 2 extra batteries. Was perfect case and size for my backpack. I never got much more than 8-10 minutes as I would land at 30-35% which is why I moved from spark. It was amazing and as much as the gestures were gimiky I used it a lot and it worked really well. I always wanted the case charger so smart. Love the old tech reviews.
Great series - The Mavic Air for me was a huge revelation - 4k 30fps or HD at 120fps, fly round obstacle avoid, fast, 3 axis and folding - Holds its own even today.
Legacy? umm I just brought my Spark to Austria flew all over including the infamous Hallstatt. I get 13 mins flight time from 1 battery. My Spark is still kicking ass all over the world I bring t with me when I travel to France and Germany. It crashed heavily in France once but survived and still flies great. Almost lost it when its wifi signal was blocked by army choppers near south of France. Still managed to recover it. Its 2023 and its still flying hard in Austria. I'm proud of my little Spark. Its DJI app profile now has so many flags. Its a traveler drone.

Good to see legacy drones revisited - I lost a Phantom 3 Pro battery to leaving it for too long, managed to pick up a few more on Aliexpress that were still good, thankfully - so I can keep flying the P3P for a bit longer yet.
