The DJI Spark and Mavic Air 1 came out 3-4 years ago. One question I get a lot, is if I should upgrade to the Mini 2 from something like the Spark and Air 1. In this video, let's go through some of the main changes I feel are the most important when thinking about upgrading your existing drone. 5 Reasons to upgrade.

3 years and you're still my advice guy 👍🏻
Still following from years ago, and I still have my Spark. Nice to see how well you've done with this channel.
Great to hear! Thanks for supporting for so long
For a little bump in price, the DJI Mini 2 seems like the more logical choice over the Spark
Thanks a million for this breakdown. I've wondered about the video comparison between Air1 and the Mini2. Just for knowing sake. Thanks again
Newer is always better - Barney Stinson
This is flat out not right. 'always'? No.
Thanks for sharing on the differences
I got my spark 3 years ago I love it. But everything you say make sense to me. I can't wait to get the mini2. Thanks
Got my FlyPath Mini 2 case. Well done and thanks for the super fast shipping from Cali to FL.
Glad you like it! AWESOME
thanks a lot for the video! im 2 years late but still kinda want the mini 2
Great Videos, Being an Mavic Air 1 owner, other than size &Occusync, the Mavic Air to me is a "no brainer" it devastates to me in most areas, almost the Spark & Dji Mini 2 are great drones! Keep the Great Videos coming!
Would you get a mavic air or a mini 2? Im torn because the range of the mini 2 is much greater
@@benrichard8329 No doubt the size of the Mini 2 makes it viable if you're trying to stay underneath the 250 grams, but the obstacle avoidance on the Mavic Air 1, it runs on the DJI 4 Go App, shoots 4k 30, so I personally would still buy a refurbished Mavic Air 1 as opposed the Mini but of course it's a matter of preference
@@charlespotts1919 I'm really considering the air one as my first pro drone. Second hand prices are very cheap now it seems too good to be true. Like, £220 for an air 1
Well done!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do the research, and for sharing your information, expertise, and professional knowledge!! Doug
Appreciate you watching Doug
I loved my Spark. But 100% yes it's worth upgrading to a Mini2, even from the Mavic Mini! (Occusync alone!) And frankly, I use the Mini more than my bigger drones because it's so convenient and good. It's the best do-it-all easy carry machine. It takes a pretty hefty drone to beat it, and then it's like the "what's the best camera" --- The one in your pocket. Every serious droner needs one in addition to their high-end serious machine that takes serious planning.
Good comparison vid. Definitely one to use when I go to upgrade. Mentally the pandemic has me limited to how much time I'm out of the house but hopefully this spring things will be better and I'll have less excuses and get out and fly.
Your videos are excellent. Thanks for sharing
This is a really great video!!! It helps me make my decision!
Just the thing I was waiting for!
I agree with you, the Mini 2 is a worthy upgrade over the Spark. The Mini 1 was a nice upgrade over the Spark. And I don't mean to put the Spark down, it was a great drone in it's day, it just shows how far DJI has come since the Spring of 2017. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
The Mini 2 has prooved itself a worthy successor to my Spark.
I just LOVE the Mini 2!
Mini 2 is such a badass little drone I seem to always gravitate to it and have lots of other drones to choose from. I just shot some sample footage I uploaded with the 1x and 2x comparison and even that looks pretty darn good. Kind of mind blowing. 🤯
Agree
You forgot some points in the comparison.
The fact that the Air shoot also at 1080P 120fps is not a tiny thing, the size is not really different between the two, the range, i think, everywhere, we have to fly at sight, so, 500m or more, none of the three drone are visible, not important too, the price is also a thing to take care and finally, the App... DJI Fly is crap, comparing to DJIGo4, and DJIGO4MOD2, which opens an all new era for those drones, Spark, Air, and Pro.
Should you buy a Mini 2 for beginning ? No, a Tello is suffisent, and you can resell it at the price you got it, and a tiny flight time will help you to work with it, planning the plans, what do you want to shoot, what is really a good place, or not so, taking care of each minute of flight time.
Should you buy a Mini 2 if you are an advanced pilot ? I don't know, for all the lessons up top, i like to plan my flights, and, i had a Mini1, which i used like three times, then resold it, with one battery even ever used. I still pack my Spark and my Tello in my bag when i'm travelling, i also have a Mavic Pro, which i never use, except for contracts, so, here are my thought ;)
Going from the mavic air to a mini 2 is no upgrade.yes I know the mini 2 has a longer flight time but the mavic air makes up for it because it can go 43mph and has sensors HDR.120 fps. Duel IMU. You have to admit the mavic air is hands down the most beautiful drone DJI has ever produced.
I’m looking into Storyblocks today!! 😄
If you use LumaFusion, you can purchase a subscription inside the app and it integrates really well.
Great post... thanks!
Great comparison. I have an Air 1 and here in the UK it is often windy and so far the wind has never been a problem. It would have been good to see something about the max wind capabilities. I'm interested in the mini because I don't use the Air 1 enough for the PIA registration required for over 500g drones.
A really good video. thank you
Thanks, good job! 👏👏👏
Great info. What type of animated text are you using? Clean👊🏼
Nice buddy!
Another good video Aldryn
Appreciate that
Awesome that you compared air 1 with mini2 i see no reviews on that i was thinking to make one by myself and i needed mini 2 for that i currently own mavic air
Good one Mentor love from Nigeria
Thanks Adams
Mavic mini 2 very comfortable🤘, Small , light weight drone . thank you for knowledge ❤️.
I'll keep my spark, it's a good starter drone for my kids. Still flies great and works in a pinch!
for kids? Bro, you buy your kid a 300-400$ drone? Stop capping
Awesome video.
Actually when the mavic mini came out it still didn't quite make me want to trade my spark, loved that drone but once I started reading rumors about the mini 2 I was able to sell my spark and get the mini the same day it officially came out. Definitely no regrets this was the true upgrade I wanted even though I scarified active track and the oa from the spark
I made this mistake. I sold my spark hope i buy new mini..but i not buy...and now i am flying Tello waiting for mini 3 or real spark 2 / air. Propably i wiil buy air 1. Most i use spark on vacation for quick selfie. No need pair controller, smartphone... Just fly, photo and return
7:43 The reason why you can’t control the newer drones with just your phone is because of OcuSync. Your phone has Wi-Fi connectivity, but not OcuSync. The newer controllers have the OcuSync hardware built into them that allows them to make that excellent connection with the drone.
Worth upgrading but that is not the case with me 🤦🏻♂️ Great video! 👍👍👍
The best Mini drone out there today!
i realize it's pretty off topic but does anyone know a good website to stream newly released series online ?
@Kamdyn Kellen i use Flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Tate Albert Yea, have been using FlixZone for months myself :D
@Tate Albert Thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it!
@Kamdyn Kellen happy to help xD
Still flying my Air 1. I swapped out the props for some MAS props and changed the pitch. Oh I have a Mini and Mini 2 as well but the Air 1 is still very capable, my only gripe is battery life. Otherwise and awesome little drone that does great video and pics.
Thanks for sharing
I have to agree with you. The Air 1 still checks a lot of boxes, BUT... by the time you get it powered-up, connected and deal with all the DJI warnings, calibration, etc... your real-world usable flight time is pretty bad.
Thanks you have swayed me to buying the mini 2...
Thanks for the breakdown.Love my Mavic Air 1, but alas, with family and not having much time, I have flown it about 6 times in total, after spending a grand on it, not sure getting the Mini 2 is worth it, although I like the look of the new controller and smaller size, it has sime resolution and lack of sensors. I think I will wait a little longer before I spend more money on drones, and take tests each year without using it. Which is totally down to circumstance.
One thing that wasn't mentioned is charging. As far as I know the Mini 2 is USB-C, which would be a big thing for me because I want to take the drone for hiking. With the Air 2 I currently have I need not only carry the drone itself and the RC but also additional batteries and the charging brick&adapter for a multiday trip. Those add to bulk and weight. With the Mini 2 (I guess) I could bring only the drone&RC and use the powerbank I carry anyway to recharge the drone. That's really a game changer. Can you confirm that would work?
Also: Agree with you on the control-by-phone. Would be awesome to have that as a feature.
Nice video. How is photo quality between Air1 and Mini2? And Video quality? I have the Air1 and i was wandering if i should upgrade to mini2 if the image quality is better
Good idea for a video ! I've had the Spark since July 2017 and do wish it had longer flight time and range from time to time (I got a Fimi X8 for that) but if I'm honest it does all I need, especially since I mainly take pictures (big fan of Spheres...that the Mini 1 lacked incredibly). If anything I would upgrade to the Air 1 to keep the control from a phone and have the smoothness of a 3D gimbal for the rare times I make videos. Just slip it in my backpocket when I'm riding my bike for instance. Can't do that with the Mini 2 or the Spark.
You forgot to mention the lack of Follow-Me on the Mini 2 and the lack of Gesture Control which really works very well on the Air 1 (I borrowed one a couple of years ago).
The Spark still has the edge on ALL other DJI drones I know of when it comes to 9 picture panoramas as you can center the horizon where you want, on all the others it centers them on the actual horizon.
oohhhh this is so informative ..
Good video 👍 I bought my wife a Spark because she liked the obstacle avoidance of my Mavic Air 2, but likes the size of the Mini 2. Only thing she doesn't like is the battery life. Probably get her a personalized Mini 2 once she gets more comfortable.
Now you can buy mini 3 with obstacle..
my spark does 2000 meter+ in range every flight but 1080 is really spark down side.. the mini seem to have everything spark has WITH the 4k :) love your review thanks
wow nice drone sir..I love it
Thanks! 👍
I had the mavic air 1. It was one of the coolest things I ever owned. I still very much enjoy the footage I got to shoot with it. It died of old-age and crashed in a lake in Holland unfortunately. I'm now investigating if the DJI Mini 2 is any good and how it compares to the Mavic Air 1. I hope it will be at least as good, hopefully better. Thanks for the vid.
how did it crash?
@@sunnynirmaan6899 in hindsight i think (not 100% sure) i damaged some of my lithium batteries by flying in temperatures far below zero degrees celsius earlier that winter. The drone became less reliable, and the battery just suddenly died in mid-air over the lake.
I love my DJI Spark
Still prefer Spark or Air 1 ( gestures, smartphone control ) I often used gestures to make quick group selfies on holidays, when you fast walking on trip, no time and space for extra controller. Just click power, fly, make few photos
and back to the hand...Really great
Air 1 also has more camera settings, obstacle avoidance, shoots at a higher frame rate, and has deep learning ai. Definitely the best drone out of these 4
@@clmfilms8103 yes. Only problem is sound... If someone can test engines // motors from air 2 in air 1...😀
@@martinezq1 or just buy master airscrew props. They decrease the noise by a bit, and increase the flight time by 1-2 minutes. That's what I use.
Gestures should have been on mini too. I miss my air 1 just for that. And air 1 had the best design, all the rest of the line up look like they are clones.
I actually love all 3 drones still
awesome video
big fan from kerala
Is that in India
@@tahirahmed33 yes
Good things. You are sharing a good idea of drones. But I can't use it because I have no drone 😅
Anyway the Air 1 design is the best that dji ever created.
I agree it is such a cool looking little drone.
Air is the best
Both the Spark and the Mini 1 can be both be found on the second hand market for $200-250. I wonder how those two would stack up.
If I have dji mavic mini should I also get dji mini 2? Great video btw :)
I had a spark, mini, air and I'll get a mini 2 now (I selled to buy the next one lol, always profiting)
I love my mini 2. I see they have the air on sale for $500 though so I'm kinda thinking about giving it a try too.
249gr vs 430gr great for stability IMHO, 30min vs 21, but in the price you get combo, which menas 3x that with 3x battery, FHD and HD to 60fps vs 120 fps with Air - cool for slow mo, active tracking, front, back, down sensors, it's ok, but I'm cycling so mostly manual for best shots anyway, spotlight setting is good for only camera to follow me while the drone is steady and does adjustments. OcuSync vs WiFi, personally don't have any problems, I usually don't fly super super far, and it never affects my recorded material, plus the remote is not so huge like with the OcuSync
Cons of the mini air 2 it's really light and won't stand higher wind unlike the mavic air 1, but the way the air one is designed the camera is alot more protected, better materials, and not to mention, all the seniors it has front and back, plus you can find it for a great price found my for $200 bucks
My first drone was a Spark :) It really sparked my interest for drones.
Only reason I'm not buying Air 1 is the batteries- they're really hard to find.
Oh really? I need to take that into account. Air 1 is really cheap second hand now
@@Kholaslittlespot1 At least here, in Bulgaria, Air 1 and 2 are somewhat close pricewise- I'd say save some more money and get the air 2. It is really that good.
HAHAHA "OG'S" I bought the Phantom 1 and the Inspire 1 back in the day and just getting back into drones. Appreciate your vid. Fellow tuber here.
Got the Mavic Air 2 and its sweet
bad
I would upgrade to the mini 2, but the DJI fly app isn't 32bit, and I can't use 3rd party apps with the mini 2 or air 2 for my mapping procedures
which one is the most fun to fly?
is the camera on the air 1 better than the mini 2?
Love my first new drone....mini 2
for kid only
you forgot the video quality, mini 2 got more dynamic range and surprisingly fixed some underexposed shots
Do a video of all the DJI products you own.
My first drone was the og Mavic Air and I sold it because I didn't think I wanted it. Now in 2023 I want another drone. I'm torn between the Mavic Air or the Mavic Mini 2. I may just find a cheaper Mavic Air because I'm also about to buy a new camera for my RUclips channel so wanna leave room for extra money there too.
I have an air2 but I want something that can take a bit more of a beating sometimes
What about active track? Mini doesn't have it and it's very important
Unfortunately for your mobile control section is that since they fly ocusync that’s something not built into a phone so yea rip that’s why they don’t have it (my guess)
do you do any gievaways ??
Love
With how cheap SD cards are today I do not really care if there is internal storage.
until you forget your card, it happens
Its not about how cheap SD cards are .... lets say u hiking n u reach the peak n u gonna fly ur drone boom no SD card what u gonna do buy SD card on top of that mountain 😅
@@azakerahman1471 I keep 2 in the bag and 1 in the drone at all times. I have about 20-25 MicroSD cards. I do not get how it could be forgotten when it is always in the drone.
@@sekazi i never 4gt it never happened with me but if it never happen before doesn't mean it can't happen at all.. u never know.. btw thats way too many SD cards you got 😅 good for u mate
@@sekazi I work with multiple clients a week constantly dumping footage and running to the next shoot. When you are busy sometimes you can forget something. An internal backup is great just in case.
Only the Air has Enhanced WiFi, the Spark only has WiFi. The difference is quite big in range and signal quality, i have both.
But DJI MAVIC MINI has only 15 meters height only what to do tell me please 🥺
🥶
Hi Aldrin, I was one of your suscribers that fallows you since you release your Spark videos, cheers.
Wow, thank you
The mini 2 was the best thing dji ever released for the price. The spark is 2nd but if the spark had a zoom and longer battery it would beat the mini 2.
occusync is what did it for me. after 3 years with the air, i sold it and bought the mini 2. now i can fly without feeling that my connection is gonna stop, and i can fly for longer
Exactly
@@FlytPath great video by the way. This one was the one i was waiting for
@@MovementElements I never loose connection with my mavic air, are you flying in a city or somewhere with high interference?
air 1 came out in 2018 and since 2021 they have refused to provide any after sales services or spares for this drone. Claps for the company everyone !
Ii got a mini 2 a few days ago. It's my first drone and birds like the Red-tailed hawk, crows, and seagulls, come out of nowhere and attack the drone. I have tried different spots but there everywhere. I am in California. What can I do to keep them away?
Once you see them, quickly raise your altitude (birds can’t fly straight up). If they continue to attack your drone, then I would suggest returning to home and landing.
Comparing the Mavic Air with the Mini 2 should be considered drone heresy.
I fly both of them and the feeling with the old Mavic Air, although it was double price, it was money well spent. With the Mini I always feel I was deceived in some way.
Hey but i have a question. Which would be better to Buy in your opinion? The mavic mini 2 or the og mavic air?
Mini 2
@@FlytPath Okay, thanks!
God how much i regret selling my Spark. It was so much fun to fly.
Agree. Sold my spark when mavic mini was launched. Now I'm wishing I kept it
Buy one on eBay refurbished, in UK loads of ppl selling their sparks in eBay.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hello there
Still flying my Mavic air
Air has great capabilities
Personally the Mavic air beats the Mavic mini 1 & 2....beside the range.
The range on the air 1 is identical to the mini 1 (although not quite as good as the mini 2) personality, I haven't had any problems with the range on the mavic air and can go super far away without looking connection, not sure why everyone is having issues....although that being said, I usually fly in a pretty low interference area....I saw a video where someone got the mavic air 5km away and only had to return because of battery, probably could have gotten 7 or 8km if it wasn't for the battery life.
In the UK ALL DRONES THAT HAVE A CAMERA must be registered. Weight has nothing to do with it, though the Mini does have some benefits with the new European rules.
But the Mavic Mini and Mini 2 will continue to be able to be flown without the restrictions that will be imposed on other ‘legacy’ drones after the transition period is over. Good news for the owners of these aircraft and a good reason to buy one now.
Under the new CAA rules, a UAV (drone) with a MOTM (max take-off mass) of
@@DugDiamond1 clear explanation thank you
Agreed, it shouldn't be a big deal to register. Just do it.
@@Malco1805 mini 2 will keep it's value price over the next 2 years especially if DJI make the mini 3 ( in 2022)with altitude and range restrictions )
Gimbal on Spark is only 2-axis.
Hanging onto my Air 1 for the moment. For the money invested, the differences just aren’t there yet to make the upgrade for me.
Anxiously awaiting the Mini 3 if it ever comes out. I’d be happier with a quieter, slightly more capable and unrestricted drone. I’d be willing sacrifice collision avoidance sensors and other automated flying features if the camera, size, flight time and usability justified. In the meantime the Air 1 is just fine.
I agree your comment :)
Mini 3 pro is the way to go
@@victorviziri7634 Sure seems like it
I got it a few days ago and started to kind of regret spending so much over mini 2..but when I tried it out, I was actually happy I got it 😂 is really good drone with lots of features I was missing in mini 2 🙃
I'm so torn. I can get a second hand air 1 for £220
Hi sir im from India and i own a mini 2 last week but I can't fly it above 15 meter height due to Indian Government restrictions can you please help me to fly this above 15m???

@@tahirahmed33 lol😂😂
So upgrading from a spark should I go to the mini 2 or the air 1 refurbished?
Mini 2
Thanks! So the sensor deficit wouldn’t mean anything right?
Air has more camera settings, shoots at a higher frame rate, has obstacle avoidance, active track, gesture control, and is faster. I would personally go for the air 1

For real state video mavic air vs mini 2?
Either one works. I’d go mini 2
@@FlytPath why the mini 2? The air can shoot at higher frame rate and has more camera settings...
@@clmfilms8103 you should see comparison of image or video quality, someone in youtube post it, mini 2 beat air def
@@boicinematic I have seen video comparisons, and in all auto settings the mini 2 looks better because of newer software, but most people who are serious about film making shoot in a flat color profile with manual settings so auto settings don't make much difference.
