With the release of the new DJI Mini 2, a lot of people have asked the same questions in my comments. Which drone should I get? The DJI Mini 2 or the Mavic Air 2? In this video, I talk about some of the similarities of the two drones, but more importantly the differences. I hope this video helps you while doing your research.

I just bought my Mavic mini 2 yesterday. And it is very convenient compact drone. I was so amaze by its quality and its range. I also have Mavic 2 pro but every time im using it im always worried coz of its price if i crash. Haha. In my opinion if you're a vlogger and you want a small convenient but yet quality drone. Go for the mavic 2 mini.
Just bought mine a few days ago too and absolutely love it. Take note that the official name is just Mini 2 and not Mavic Mini 2
@@JackMihoff6969 take note that its still a mavic series drone, so technically it is called the mavic mini 2, just dont advertise it for some reason..
Thanks Aldryn and always clear in your explanations. I looked at getting the Air but as a beginner opted for the Mini based on your review along with Jake Sloan review as well. Thanks again for content you put on, makes it so much easier to make a choice 👍
Sold the mini and my mini 2 is coming tomorrow. Thanks to your channel I already know all the tips and tricks 👍🏻
Thanks for video. I'm in the market for my 1st drone and was looking at exactly both of these!
Glad I could help!
I still use my Mini a lot in all types of shoots and love this drone as its so easy to use. I added lens covers for different contrasts as I shoot a lot over open ocean off boat decks even while moving at 25 mph and never had an issue landing it on by hand and flipping it to turn it off..... this little drone packs a powerful punch of air time and range and versatility and its still a phenomenal tool
I got the Mini 2 specifically for traveling. I used to lug all my DSLR gear traveling. Then went mirrorless for lightness when traveling. Now I leave my camera gear at home and just bring the Mini 2 and with no registration required for it's size it's free roam in many countries. A couple Rocket and Circle Quick Shots and I'm on to the next attraction. Everyone takes the same photo of Notre-Dame de Paris from ground level but it's breath-taking taking aerial footage! A perspective many don't get to experience.
Thanks for your videos I'm so glad I subscribed because your reviews and tutorials really helped me out!
Brilliant review, thank you! Appreciate you being very precise - it was very helpful for me when choosing the first drone to purchase. I ended up with Air2 :)
I have the first mini and though I’m missing the 4k recording aspect and the better handling in noticeably windier conditions. To me, it really depends on budget, level of comfort (as in beginner, novice, proficient, or advanced) with flying, and taking pictures and videos at the same time. I guess you can add one more thing to it, level of rush you are willing to attach to the investment to get a return. Mind you the return can really be anything you deem fit.
As for accessories etc. Aldryn has you covered so check your pockets and the rest, is just up to you.
Love the channel.
Always good reviews.
I have a mini 2 and love it.
All the best from Scotland for 2021.
Thanks
Glad you like them!
Nice brief comparison. I was looking forward to this to see you opinion on them. I did a Comparison vid last week of these two as well from a hiking standpoint and choose the air 2
Hi! I have been watching you DJI mini drone tips and tricks for beginners. Thank you for posting it I got my mini a few weeeks ago and your tips help. Thanks!
Do you still have the mini or did you upgrade? 👍
@@grandcreations2778 still have it
Really enjoying your videos as a newb, great information 👍🏻
So helpful, thanks! Going to Greece soon and decided on the Mavic Air 2. Had to register, take a test, and obtain an EU distant pilot license but it only took 3-4 hours to complete this process and 50 eur where I live in Germany. Excited to get out there and fly legally! Happy flying fellow droners!
Sick review. Very well done
After few months of trying to decide I went with the Air 2 ...thing is amazing ( it’s replacing a phantom 3 advanced ) Costco online has a great bundle The Air 2 with a spare battery and a 128gig card for 789.99.
😂😂I want the fly more combo just for the case
Damn the 2s is coming out in a couple weeks...I just got my Mavic in November 🥴🥴
@@keronfarrier2198 After seeing 2S announced, I bought the mini 2 from costco for $449 which came with one extra battery, 32gb card and a bag.. saved more than half and also enjoying the super compact size.
That is an awesome deal. I don't think they have it available anymore, I just checked their website. I only see the mini 2 on the Costco website.
@@realdah I’m seeing right now is $439.99 at Costco. That same combo.
Hi! great video. I am about to start from zero drone piloting as a hobby. I am also rather a beginner in photography and video. So I believe everything points to the Mini 2 as the right choice for a first experience. My only doubt is this: which one makes the learning to fly experience easier and les riskier? The idea of having sensors to avoid obstacles is very reassuring! Thank you!
Very Nice you explained bro thanks
Thank you for your review it was great
As a complete beginner who tried out both the MA2 the mini 2 before sticking to a purchase, I think the mini 2 is much better suited for beginners. Much more portable (way easier to carry around), cheaper, quieter, and still great quality pictures/videos.
Excellent Mr. Estacio!! Thank you so much for your review on DJI Air 2, and DJI Mini 2. Doug
🙏
Great review Aldryn, i went with the Mini 2 (first time drone owner) right away i noticed the wind problem as i live 700m from the ocean & strong onshore winds are a daily occurrence, i can live with that for now but if i get in to drone flying i will for sure upgrade to Mavic Air 2 as its heavier & stronger motors & that suits flying round here, for now i will just pick my flying days carefully. Thank you.
first time drone owner i would have gotten a cheapo something from an electronics store and learn to fly it and feel fine about crashing it. the mini 2 while not as expensive as its bigger and far more capable cousins is still a sting if you crash it and total it.
This was a good review thanks
Thanks for the clear features of the two. I will fly mini 2 one day I just like it. Thanks Aldryn love from Nigeria
My pleasure!
Great video thank you
Great video Thank You
Thank you for direct comparison
Off subject by just received your mini case👀 Wow very high-quality I dig it thank you, and it doubling as my GoPro case two go pros and charger 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Thank you again
Wow that means so much to hear. Yes it’s a great little all purpose bag and I was very happy with the craftsmanship. That was something I did not want to skip out on. Glad you felt the same.
Gotta love how you _exactly_ hit that ten-minute mark. (Not dissing - great video! Just kinda funny.)
You can't go wrong with either of these drones. Great comparison video.
Agreed!
I got the Air2 a few months ago before the Mini 2 was released and absolutely love it such an awesome drone. Recently due to laws and restrictions that have come into place in the Uk I have purchased the Mini 2 as at the moment it has the least restrictions. Not had chance to try the Mini 2 yet but definitely going to keep them both. Awesome video as always
Thanks for sharing
Join FPV and you can fly your air 2 under rule 16 no problems whatsoever.
@@tonyrobinson362 Yeah I think I have done that. It's about £20 a year
Great information Aldren, I can always depend on you 👍 to point out the features, for both, I come to the conclusion, to also try to purchase, the Mavic air 2 ,so I will have both , Thank you Brother, your awsome. Sincerely your freind from Mo Rick and God bless you and your family and are Great Country
Mavic Air 2 is the better drone for sure. However, in the UK (and Europe I think), the rules from 2021 onward give massive flexibility for use of sub 250g drone like flying in cities and over a few people. Pretty much anything apart from over crowds. Anything bigger is restricted to open countryside. I sold my 4 year old Mavic Pro and bought a Mini 2 - same camera quality but so much more freedom. If I was doing a lot of landscape photography with a drone, it would be an Air 2 or Pro 2, for sure.
Thanks for your vids. This is really helpful as I am new to the drone but I did photography.
I guess from you rule of thump here, the Air 2 is the way to go then.
Great Video Aldryn. Thank you very much. Still debating which one I wanna get .. IF I get me one of these. Might be saving up and maybe try myself on the M3 if it comes out this year.
Ya you’re in Hawaii. I would go bigger and heavier.
@@FlytPath yeah my mini is being pushed around lately lol
They're both great drones I'm actually looking at getting the mini 2 for my company to have alongside the air 2
I just bought the mini 2 to go alongside my air 2, go for it....
Thanks so much for all your awesome videos, I got the mini 2 for Christmas and now I have the air 2 and the mini 2 😍😍😍
Glad you like them!
Which one do you like more?
@@kagisomoeketsi4403 hello, air 2.
Which one is more loud, Or do they sound the same??
Good description off both...still tough deciding which.
Love your content! It’s really too bad all the youtubers have dropped the original Mavic Mini... I have both and to tell you the truth. The original is still an awesome little machine. Just wish they weren’t being pushed out because of the 2. Sooo many people still buying the original and content on them is old. How about a refreshing new update on the original?! Cheers!
Great job! Still on the fence on my first drone🤪
Mini2 Biking and hiking no brainer!!
Thank you so much for the reviews !
May you make review about DJI utility apps ?
For example, MINI 2 does not work with applications such as DJI Assistant, DJI simulator and etc.
Does MINI 2 supports DJI SDK applications ?
I noticed that the Air Sense (ADS-B) on the 2, it now tracks the position of the aircraft on the moving map, relative to the drone. That's pretty cool.
Ya really cool
it ONLY tracks ADS-B "out" equipped aircraft which depending on where people are flying and what they are flying dictates whether they have ADS-B equipped or not for example i live in a semi rural area with a small air field nearby. some of the cessnas etc. show up on my map while others go overhead and there is no alert on the map. ADS-B systems are extremely expensive and private pilots may not equip them if they are not required to while others who can afford it will do so regardless of need so just a heads up.
U really make in depth reviews really like ur videos..can u tell me how u get the grey background???
Gotta say that mini2 is just PERFECT
Its like a GoPro with wings 😍
Not really perfect for everyone.
Perfect!
@@KaneLono Nothing ever is.
if you wanted a "GoPro with wings" you should have bought a karma but those had issues omg they had issues. although the removable handheld gimbal was neat.

Cool to see Del Sur Neighborhood Park at the 3:00 mark! Hello, neighbor! 😀 My son goes to school next to there. Your videos are fantastic. Thank you very much.
Great video
I recently picked up the air 2 a few weeks ago and it’s great even in windy conditions and was able to get some nice footage I recently put up but both are amazing drones.
Would be nice to have a propper test footage comparison in a review.
Great video, thank you.
One question 🙋🏻♂️
Is there any news about a new DJI 3 lineup?
Awesome Work 👍
Thanks ✌️
Thank you.
Great comparison 👍
Glad you liked it
I think one of the biggest differences especially when flying urban or leisure places. Mini 2 is significantly more quiet. You don't need to go as high to make it not a centre of attention as you do with Air 2
I don't have a mini 2, but I have a mini and an air 2, and I think you may be correct, but not entirely. The air 2 is definitely louder, especially when in sport mode, but the mini has a higher pitch, and is more noticeable when at the same difference.
@@loweflyer7778 Mini 2 has lower noise pitch than Mini 1 at least from videos. But I did fly Air 2 and Mini 2 and the difference is significant I can fly lower with mini 2. It's still a bit higher pitch than air 2 but it is less of an annoyance for people around.
you shouldn't be flying that close to people that it becomes bothersome. doing so could be dangerous and is irresponsible flying. flying in an urban area is also more risky since its not out in the open.
@@jrs-sx5jb I totally agree. That's why Mini 2 is so nice. It can come closer and not be bothersome. I still maintain safe distances at all times and not fly over crowds etc. but when i fly over the sea near the beach mini 2 is much less of a bother than Air 2. Or even a 3 inch FPV drone which i don't fly in urban settings at all and in leisure places pretty much only in really secluded areas.
Also Mini 2 poses a bit less danger with lower mass. But any incident is bad. So i still maintain safe distance and take conditions(including Kp index as well) into consideration. Mini 2 is quieter and has lower impact energy. I can get closer to the spots i actually want to film and not bother people around.
I have both ,I love the video and pics on both ,they're very similar u probably couldn't tell them apart as far as video & pictures are concerned. I will say the mini 2 is awsome for those flying low and extremely close shots,I'd rather crash my mini 2 than the air 2. Definitely less anxious with mini2
How are you feeling now about these 2 drones after about a year? Anything you can add to your review?
They r both still great ,haven't been flying the mini 2 as much ,just sticking with the Air2S and the Mav 3, the one thing I would want for these drones is a slower cine speed or maybe different speed settings in the app, other than that no , thanks for asking , nice to see a utuber do that
Another Good quick comparison Aldryn. My thoughts are if your going to invest $600, you may as well save up a tiny bit more for the MA2. Only $388 which is well worth the price. I believe since they came out with the MA2 at such an incredible price, it made the Mavic Mini too high priced at $500 and Now Mini 2 at $600. Keep them coming my friend. I Always check here for any new comparison or info. Hope your new year is great. Enjoy.
Yes the air 2 definitely better. I just know of people take the price and now the weight into more consideration now.
Hey. Nice video, many good infos. I have one question still: if I will move 3 4 meters when I am using the circle quickshot, the Mini 2 will follow me? Many thanks for your answer.
Aldryn this was a GREAT comparison Video..Well explained and executed my friend...
I do want the Mini 2..The only thing that steers me away is the screw on Props..
I would have bought it by now if not for the screw on Props..However, i'm still contemplating the purchase Lol..

Iv just received my mini 2 but I’m new to drones and very anxious about my first flight, weather here in the UK is not so good, I best wait for a while 🙏
Understand the controls before you fly. Watch lots of videos and good luck.
My spark with a fresh battery flew for about 10 secs before saying low battery powering off and dropping out of the sky yesterday. It has a nice crack down the side now and will not pick up the battery. Hopefully I can get it to work again if not I’m gonna be getting one of these two
Nice Drones Sir
I was going to wait and buy the Mini 3 but since I thought I wanted to get serious anyway I picked up the Air 2 in the end, probably will going to pick up a smaller drone later down the road if I end up needing to travel to countries with stricter regulations
I've had my original DJI mavic almost 5 years now. I remember those days worrying about the price and crashing. Only one time i sent it further than the batterys could bring it back.. headwind got me.. But i landed it in a hidden spot, and drone a mile to where i landed it. using the Find my drone GPS on the dji app. The obstacle avoidance does all the work.
I worry more about my mini,, since im flying it so far without line of site. That 250 gram limit really shrunk all drones. But the mavic air is the way to go. My brother has one.. I l.ove flying it..
Nice video
Just bought both amazing 👏
Hope you enjoy it!
Fascistic video! The Air 2 just went on sale for $859 on Amazon (including tax) for the Fly More package. Thanks to your breakdown of the differences. I'm definitely still going for the mini 2
Have a Mini 2 but definitely want to upgrade to Air 2 since Best Buy is giving me 10%off for my birthday. Thought about getting the smart controller but thinking about FPV goggles instead.
Moving from the original mavic pro to mini 2 purely because of its portability(hiker here), can be flown nearly anywhere based on the new regulations(UK) and as under 250g will still be able to fly it in the same category even after the end of the transitional period
Wow can’t wait for mini 6000!!!!!
FlyPath I bought the Mini 2 I couldn't afford the Air 2 this year ! I like the Mini 2 Combo Fly's Good & Good Video ! I would Like the Heavier Air 2 with better Sensors though ! You did & Extremely Nice job on your Video also ! Thanks for the Great Video !
Thank you very much
Wow its look cool😁👍. But Never had any drones😔.
I have both and I fly every day one or the other depending on the conditions and weather. I take them both with me every where I go, just in case. I fly at lunch time at work. While my wife is shopping, any time I’m bored just like you pull out your cell phone and browse, I just put my phone in the remote and I’m up and flying i can be up in under a minute. Once you get above 200ft no one will notice you and with the 4x zoom that that both have you can people watch all day without creeping people out. It’s good for neighborhood watch and security.
Which one is easier to learn from zero with?
thank you for being one of those drone pilots that cause irrational people to think that they are being spied on and threaten you with shooting down your drone or being shot yourself....
@@wpymes a $30 dollar one until you can comfortably fly it without crashing. then get a real drone depending on what you want to do with it. FPV - freestyle (neither of these do that), general droning (mini 2 if on a budget), or aerial photography or higher end general droning (MA2)
@@jrs-sx5jb Thank you. I purchased a mini 2. Learning a lot. Crashed twice. Broke and replaced an arm. And recording great 4k videos.
Despite having passed the extended EU drone test,
just gotten the mini 2 yesterday.
Fits in the bag anytime, daily driver or carry-on only travels.
Regulatory wise still legal or easier in most countries.
Maybe getting a big sensor future model later - including remote ID capability,
which is makes it easier to fly from 2023 EU rules onward.
Both if you can afford it , Air 2 when youre Home and not traveling. I travel internationally alot , the mini 2 fly more combo bag is easy to stick in your carryon luggage and not take up alot of space when traveling and dont have to worry about local flying laws of your destination because of the size . I love to see videos that i can't afford !!
I currently have a Mini 2 and I was looking to get an Air 2 but I also am thinking maybe a custom FPV racing one would be more fun.
Same
sounds like you need to decide what you want the drone for
Totally different so the only solution is to have both!
I fly fpv most exciting thing next to sxx
well what are you trying to do? FPV or generic droning or aerial photography? none of these 2 are capable of FPV freestyle and the mini 2 is sub par for aerial photography... get a FPV kit if you wanna do freestyle. take the mini 2 if you just want to fly around and dont want to do aerial photography, get a MA2 at the very minimum if you want to do aerial photography better yet get the air 2s (the MA2 upgrade) or the 2 or soon to be released 3 series mavic.
The main thing stopping me from buying the mini is that it lacks the ‘follow me’ feature. I would also like the extra sensor to prevent crashes. I do prefer it’s smaller size/weight and noise. I wonder if the next mini will have these features

Thanks for the comparison. I just received the MA2 as a gift from my wife, an investment in my business, and I still haven't flown it yet due to weather and Android phone issues. I will see if it fits my needs down here in The Bahamas :)
Yeah, for myself I have this brand new MA2, but my phone is not compatible. Will have to wait a few months to get a phone that will both work on the MA2 and also be an awesome phone by itself.
Mr. Aldryn any do you have any nd filters tutorials for the mini 2?
Sold my Mini 1 got the Mini 2 and Love it!!!!!!!!!!!
I already moved to Air2 from Mini2. Just wanted to have bit better image quality and more ambitious possibilities. Thx for material Aldryn 👍
Nice move. Hope my review is aligned with your thoughts since you have both as well
@@FlytPath indeed! I always watch your movies firstly about any dronie subject. Thank you for detailed explanations ✌️. //btw i didn’t find MA2 playlist- possible to check? Peace ✌️
For about (+$62) the price of a Air 2, you could have a Mini 2 fly more combo, and another Mini 2 (plus 4th battery & controller).
you'd also have a drone that is less capable than the MA2 but with more flight time lol so theres that. but hey if the mini 2 fits your needs perfectly without the bells and whistles all the more power to you. a one time fee of $5 to register a 250+ gram drone isnt a deal breaker. you still need to follow all the stupid FAA crap or don't... and you will still need to pay $ for a part 107 if you are going to fly commercially. and post to yt like flypath. just ask him how much he paid to get his 107.
Love the channel! I just ordered a Mavic Air 2. I want to use my iPad mini instead of my iPhone but the cord won’t reach my iPad. What cord would you recommend I get?
I ordered mine yesterday but ppl keep saying the new one should be out in no time so I’m considering returning and waiting!
you can use any usb c to whatver cable your mini ipad uses. i use a standard double ended usb c cable that came with my android to attach it to the controller because the one that comes with the controller wont fit into the usb port on my phone if i leave my phones case on and its a hassle to constantly take it off and put it back on again.
I have the Mini 2 and it's good for what I want to do it's smaller to carry the air 2 looks good but bigger
I bought Mini original fly more and then 4 months after Mavic air 2 keeping both as mini is so much smaller easy to pack on any vacation but Air 2 has quite a bit more to offer. I could of sell the mini but why I would not get my money back and to be honest still will keep both. I wish original mini could be controlled with same controller but that's not the case
One thing I know, is that from the videos you have watched by me with the mavic air 2.
The mavic mini would suit far better in that environment.
But I also use the drone to manage stock, and will eventually show this. So when wind is a factor, the mavic air 2, is just solid.
I have flown it in some strong winds and it will perform.
My advice is never fly a drone in the beach wind.
I only have a spark and it still is pretty darn nice in 2022. I just would like a bit longer of a battery time and slightly better video quality.
Would you prefer newer iPad Pro or newer iPad Air for just editing and flying?
great review, tyvm! i have the mini 1 and I want to jump up to the air 2 just for wind.
I've had my Mini for over a year and I just bought a MA2 a day ago (haven't had time to fly it yet due to the bad weather) but the build quality and size is a huge step up. Definitely going to handle the wind much better. Makes the Mini feel like a toy. Going to keep the Mini mainly for traveling.
@@craigwflys I'm very excited to get it!
Awesome 👍 At least for me I made good use of my stimulus money.
@@craigwflys lol buying what matters most ic rofl with that mentality i should have gone out and bought the mavic 2 enterprise complete with the FLIR setup.
Absolute key feature for me is the Air2 supports the DJI Smartcontroller, the Mini2 doesn't (yet),
The real answer is to buy both haha.
Tbh this month has been very windy for me and I’m lucky to have a mavic pro at this point.
Bottom line if you can afford And it works out for you where you live it’s all about Mavic air 2 hands-down- end of story. Even if it’s your first drone if you’re OK with what I mentioned earlier don’t waste your time watching too many more reviews-
Sadly the “works out for you where you live” fails instantly for me in the UK. I cancelled my Air 2S and now looking at the Mini 2 just so I can use it around my home/street and holidays without all the rules and restrictions meaning I could never use it. Sadly……
If they would make the air 2 like the mini 2 without the lights and sensors u could probably get more flight. It doesn't pull much battery but it's alot of weight it doesn't need
Good video
Thanks
