Also. If you're sending footage to a small company. Make sure to put a watermark on your samples, just to ensure no miscommunication happens and that you intend to SELL your footage, not donate it. I've dealt with many clients that have no understanding of what footage worth and picture worth is, especially on a professional scale.
Went on vacation and contacted a dozen places I was going on Airbnb who had bad photos and asked for a discount to stay there in exchange for redoing their listing photos plus drone video. I not only got 2 offers but one large luxury condo complex offered free accommodations, transportation and paid me. I've since got numerous jobs from having such a big client for my very first job. Your video is spot on! I used a DJI Air 2s and this client was NOT in the USA ... Mr. FAA.
I would add just one thing. Copyright laws are not really a thing in some countries, so to avoid to have the sent material been used without paying, slap a huge watermark over the pictures and video, so they don't get tempted .
Yeah I wanted to say this as well. I have a dog walking service and I'm a photographer, I made some pictures of a dog, put it on insta without a watermark and next thing I know they've made a warning sign behind their window. Beware of the dog with my picture. So rude to do this without asking. But now I slap a few watermarks on my pictures and it didn't happen ever since.
Dude if everybody is sharing with the same dedication and honesty we would live in a much better world ! Thanks a lot for the info. I am super into the editing and photography and I was hesitating to get the DJI mini 2 to make some extra bucks with it! Now I am buying on prime days! Thanks !

You can also offer to take pictures for real estate listings. I’m a realtor and getting this drone for this reason. It’s like $150-300 for a single session of photos. Realtors pass your info around their circles if you are good and you can get lots of clients quickly from word of mouth.

Great video and ideas. Thanks Darren. I have a question. How do you prevent people from using your photos after you show them? With videos you can share and show and then just change the link. But if you show photos they could just download and use them. Is this faith based or do you use another method.
I really appreciate the good energy this video has and especially the effort that you put into helping other people to make money in the industry, which is really rare. However I feel like this video is a bit to easy going on how you’re able to do things - here’s why: (I’m gonna base everything on the EU laws based from Germany, it might differ for other places) Any person that is flying a drone needs a liability insurance (an insurance that covers any damages that occur because you flew your drone, i.e. it crashes onto a car, house etc.) If you fly with commercial intent (which taking pictures to sell later on clearly is) you need a commercial liability insurance wich might be double the price. To fly close to/in residential and industrial areas you need the bigger pilot certificate of the two, which is more than just an online test. If you only have the small certificate you must stay at least 150m (measured to the side) from these areas. Also, if you happen to get the big license you still need to stay away 50m from residents not involved in your action (also measured to the side). Additionally taking picture of private property might not be allowed without consent and you might get in trouble while you’re taking the photos - especially if people think you’re taking pictures of them (which happens to me quite a lot) Considering the aerial Photos and selling prints you really need to watch out what you’re shooting since a lot of landmarks & sights are subject to copyright by the architect and you making money off of it is illegal and might result in them filing a claim which whillbhurt your finances a lot. Considering the stuff I said above - all of the things you said in the video would be illegal to do (in Germany) or at least bound to certain circumstances like 0 people anywhere close or property owners/companies giving you permission.

This is really an EPIC inspiring video for all the GYM participants. The only challenge flying indoors needs a lot of attentions, but it was great fun.
Very informative video, if you send a potential customer copies of photos and videos is there some way you watermark them? Otherwise they can just copy them, or am I being thick?
Another question, when you want to sell your prints on Etsy, was there a specific website that you used in order for you to make the product and sell it to the customers or did you print it out at home and then send it to them via the post?
Printed myself using photoshops nears my home as it was small time, if I had more I would of got a company to do it for me but then you have to offset that cost
Great tips! Quick question...why did you use neutral density filter on a still image? (Blackpool) they literally have no (neutral) effect? (aside from permitting a slower shutter speed by reducing light).
@@DMProductions so you leave an ND filter on all the time? As I understand it, by doing this, you lose sharpness and detail on your stills (due to stability as the shutter is open longer)?
Where I live (Australia) the rules for drones (administered by CASA) are the same for a sub 250g drone as for a drone of more than 250g. Also once you are flying for commercial gain you MUST have the drone registered and pass an on-line test, no matter what weight it is. So you may as well get a drone that gives better image quality and has sensors to keep your productive asset safer.
Yeh Casa are just in it for money you need to pay $4000 worth of licences before you can even make a dollar. Just rediculous if you ask me. It’s why drone sales have plummeted in Australia and why you rarely see them in the sky anymore.
@@silverpro8356 1. You need to register your drone (even sub 250g) 2. You have to have an ARN 3. You have to pass the pilot accreditation test 4. Obey all rules for drones
Sub 250gm and flying over your own property or private property (with owner’s permission) not for profit you do not have to register your drone or obtain and operator’s license or carry insurance. You can also fly it in public areas subject to obeying all safety aspects outlined on their website. Even crossing a public road is illegal. Stepping outside any of the conditions mentioned requires rego and license, not sure about insurance, but always a good idea. This is almost like flying a plane. If you fly over your own property you do not require a license as long as you stay under 500ft (for planes).
Great video & content! One question, though … as I’m just about to get started on drone flying, I already noticed that at least over here in germany, there are pretty strict laws regarding no-fly-areas - basically you are only allowed to fly in the woods 😅 … so do you have any experience (and can share it) with getting those kind of “permits” to fly over buildings, cities, people …?
This was legit a dope RUclips Video! I never leave a Comment but that Video gave me old RUclips Vibes. Informative and straight to the point. Thanks for making this !
Hi Darren, great vid and some interesting points, I am a building surveyor and I plan on using a MA2 to carry out harder to reach inspections, wondering whether because of the weight I would need an additional license? I’ve read some conflicting stuff online! Thanks
Hi Darren, can i ask who you use for your printing? I'd love to start selling my photo's but in order to make profit after the cost of printing, i'm looking at charging a lot... Any suggestions to who you or friends use? I've been recommended a few, Loxley or Bonus print - but Loxley's shipping costs bring it up, and Bonus Print only do small images - any thoughts? thank you...
Thanks for the video. I'm inspired now to try and turn my hobby into a source of income. I'm not expecting to make millions, but a few extra dollars never goes astray!
This is exactly what I’ve done, first few vids I’ve done foc to build a portfolio, now my vids are better, I’m being asked to do more and invited rather than having to pursue. Just think the mini2 camera is a bit weak for still.
As a new Mavic Mini pilot, this is really interesting and helpful. I've been thinking about looking into offering shots to hotels and estate agents. One question - if you send photos/videos to a hotel or AirBNB to get their attention, what's to stop them using the images without paying?
@@DMProductions Of course! Seems I'm fairly local to you, in Lytham :) Wouldn't want to a) tread on your toes or b) waste my time if you've already approached the hotels round here. I note the Glendower has some aerial photos on their site
I like the idea of selling drone pics as posters and prints etc on ETSY. Where do you get your pics printed, and what size do you generally offer them in?
just offer standard sizes that do well, small medium and large like a3. You can use online printing companies which are cheaper but I just used a local printing shop
Some great ideas. I would be a little concerned that the CAA's interpretation of when commercial insurance is required might not be the same as yours. As the rules are new, they may eventually need to be tested in court. I was under the impression that if you took the photo/video with the 'intention' of selling them, then commercial insurance would be required. The other issue is of course is having non-commercial insurance and then trying to make a claim on it. We all know how much insurance companies like paying out, if they check online and see you are obviously selling your work, any claim will be refused. Bit of a minefield. Also worth bearing in mind any profits from sales will probably be taxable, especially for those already employed and doing this as a side business, if their taxable allowance is already accounted for by their day job. Hard to argue with HMRC if you are putting yourself out there clearly seeking/getting money from your drone.
You are correct... if you are flying for reward for a third party, or just with the intent to sell content or further your business from the flight you need commercial insurance that meets (EC) No 785/2004 requirements. . Drone size and weight has no bearing on this, it applies to sub 250g also.
Yes, very bad advice on this video, ignorance of the law is no excuse when the worst things happen and end up in court. If you are out with the intention of making money from a flight, it's commercial whether you have been commissioned or not. You are acting as a freelance drone operator working for yourself. Easily come unstuck when the police get called as you keep buzzing around all the hotels and expensive houses without checking permission. Coverdrone charge less than £150 a year for £1m cover.
Love your videos and this one is no exception ..... one question my son in law is a roofer and ive done a couple of roof inspections for him and i'd like to do more, would this come under commercial or not ?
If you work for yourself and take some pics of the roof then it’s fine you just need third party insurance, if you work for him or a company completely then it’s commercial
exactly... i bought a drone for my holidays, but now i have been approached by an estate agent. Free money I must say. use ur drone, and the later buy one strictly for business
Great video!! Thanks a lot! Is it allowed to take videos of hotels? I'm asking because in my area (here in Austria, Europe) I bet if I would take a video of a smaller hotel, the staff would be running out and ask me what I am doing and why... Not sure if it is okay here, filming hotels without asking them before.
This is awesome information and I’m also visiting my hometown of Thornton near Blackpool next month and will bring my new drone from Thailand where I now live.
@@DMProductions I can get one through work at a very good price so i will be trying this out I'm lucky enough to be in the lake District so will make for some very good shots 😁

@@DMProductions do you have any suggestions for 3rd party insurance?
Great video mate! How long should the video be? Should I add music and titles? Where can I see a sample of something you shot? Peace
The content with a real deal. Just loved all the ideas you just threw in the video. great work.
Thank you I like that
Darren its good really good......you can pay companies that do the GVC stuff or the A2 and take their coarse .....you have just given it away for free xx
Glad people are finding success
This is great. Where did you get your prints done for selling on Etsy? I'm currently setting up my own store for something similar but not drone photography. Thanks
I just used a local print shop but you could use max Spielman too
Hi Darren Brilliant video. Quick question, how would you stop people from just using your videos and photos without paying when you send them to potential customers?
Thank you , you could add a watermark for free on many editors or even online
I have a question, for the estate agents, do you ask them if you could take pictures of their properties and then send it to them asking them if they would want to purchase any of them?
Should I get started with my mini 1 or wait until I get the mini 2?
Sure start somewhere start getting leads
Thank you so much for this. I've recently been made redundant and was looking for a way to make money with my drone buf had so many questions price etc. Thank you. If you could post more content like this would help so many of us put. Well done great video honestly!
Thank you good luck I’ve got a few of these coming , already done part 2 but got more
Hi, what medium to use when providing content to a customer? For example footage of a property. In order not to loose quality would you share a cloud link? Thanks
Hey Darren, what keeps the so call client from using your photo after you send it to them to review? Great information BTW. Cheers
Hey you could add a watermark, the ones I’ve dealt with have been professional and no issues with things like that
Just picked up the mini 4 pro (I had a 2s). I like your cheat sheets, but I am wondering if the ones for the mini 3 pro are applicable to the 4. OR are you going to make cheat sheets for the 4? Thanks.
Nice tips. But to avoid a lawsuit. No matter in which country , i would always ask for written permission before taking any photos/videos
Great information on a subject that we all wonder about, thanks for giving us different ways to generate cash
Thank you good luck
Just what I needed! I'm saving for the Mini 2 but I want it to be more than a hobby... I live around some beautiful scenery and I never notice any drone pilots. Time to get to work!!! ;)
awesome ! get hustling and let me know how you get on !
Same did you get it yet
@@Wmacrum No, but I'm extremely close... so hard not to grab it rn haha. I'm waiting because it may go on sale for Prime Day and I'm already seeing some leaks for a supposed Mini 3, so I think if the Mini 3 leaks slow down I'll buy it if it goes on sale next month.
Unreal content! Gets a bit confusing in Australia, any tips for laws and insurance here? Cheers
I’ll do some research and get back to you
Thanks Darren. You really open my eyes for a new line of business with my drone. I also have a successful experience flying my drone indoor shooting Huge GYM sports exercises. This is really an EPIC inspiring video for all the GYM participants. The only challenge flying indoors needs a lot of attentions, but it was great fun.
LOL i had a indoor video shoot yesterday :). u need to pay a lot of attention.
I never thought about indoor sporting events. Hmmm?
Very informative video, if you send a potential customer copies of photos and videos is there some way you watermark them? Otherwise they can just copy them, or am I being thick?
You can put a watermark on over the top but normally they are very professional
@@DMProductionsokay, so it's a case of trusting they won't steal your product
Ive worked with loads of companies and all have been decent, you can put a watermark on for piece of mind
What programme do you use to edit your photos and videos? Thanks
FCP and Lightroom
Amazing video thank you for sharing! Do you print the posters yourself for the Etsy store or do you send them off to be printed?
Thank you , I printed them off at a nearby photo print shop , all done same day :-)
@@DMProductions that's brilliant! Thank you for sharing! Not many people would be willing to share this stuff!
Great tips! Quick question...why did you use neutral density filter on a still image? (Blackpool) they literally have no (neutral) effect? (aside from permitting a slower shutter speed by reducing light).
I take phone and videos at the same time so avoids having to land and remove
@@DMProductions so you leave an ND filter on all the time? As I understand it, by doing this, you lose sharpness and detail on your stills (due to stability as the shutter is open longer)?
Thank you Darren. A very honest and thoughtful video. This is indeed some great motivation to launch out into a possible lucrative business.
Glad you enjoyed it
What filters do you recommend? Excellent video 👏👏👏
Freewell or skyreat are the best I’ve got them linked
@@DMProductions Thanks Darren 👍🏻 have a great weekend.
@@silverpro8356 you can do commercial work in Australia with a drone without having your REPL. You would be operating in the sub 2kg excluded category
@@droningwesternaustralia I dont think so i was looking over the rules and im pretty sure you need some sort of licence.
@@silverpro8356
1. You need to register your drone (even sub 250g)
2. You have to have an ARN
3. You have to pass the pilot accreditation test
Thanks for these great tips and ideas. 😯👍🙂
Nfz are no no but other areas you can contact atc for permission and In the uk do the a2cofc course so fly close to built up areas
Hi! If you would start with just one filter set, which one would you get, please?
Great video, can you show us how to edit our videos and images to make them better? Would be greatly appreciated
This was legit a dope RUclips Video! I never leave a Comment but that Video gave me old RUclips Vibes. Informative and straight to the point. Thanks for making this !
Awesome thanks
Thanks for this. I’m actually a professional photographer so conceivably could do both interior and exterior aerial shots.
Absolutely you can
Thanks for the video. I'm inspired now to try and turn my hobby into a source of income. I'm not expecting to make millions, but a few extra dollars never goes astray!
For sure , start small and let them then chase you 😊
"In the first week I sold nothing"
That cracked me up I can relate lol.
Great video! Looking at buying my first drone soon. Never thought about making money off it until recently. This is an excellent way to get started.
This is exactly what I’ve done, first few vids I’ve done foc to build a portfolio, now my vids are better, I’m being asked to do more and invited rather than having to pursue. Just think the mini2 camera is a bit weak for still.
Ah nice one , and for advertising esp in raw photos for social media are more than acceptable
Hi ... very informative video ... great ideas... one question ... you sell prints on etsy? or does Etsy make the prints for you?
I do the own prints 😊
I thought this was gonna be a load of bollocks but actually it makes a lot of sense. Gonna give this a go. I’ve only got Mavic mini tho.
Ha thank you ! Good luck let me know how you get on
Can you use the mavric mini
Lol bollocks
Just bought a mini 2 today and found your channel doing research... great tips, thank you
As a new Mavic Mini pilot, this is really interesting and helpful. I've been thinking about looking into offering shots to hotels and estate agents. One question - if you send photos/videos to a hotel or AirBNB to get their attention, what's to stop them using the images without paying?
Use a watermark 😊
@@DMProductions Of course! Seems I'm fairly local to you, in Lytham :) Wouldn't want to a) tread on your toes or b) waste my time if you've already approached the hotels round here. I note the Glendower has some aerial photos on their site
Crack on mate give them a shot
@@DMProductions Amazing video, im curious, what your favorite watermark software?
I like the idea of selling drone pics as posters and prints etc on ETSY. Where do you get your pics printed, and what size do you generally offer them in?
just offer standard sizes that do well, small medium and large like a3. You can use online printing companies which are cheaper but I just used a local printing shop
Excellent video mate! You rock !! Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us, outstanding content!!
Thats so nice , did you enjoy it cos part 2 is almost done 💵
Hi Darren, great video thanks. You mention about poster or framed prints. Do you have any suggestions on services that you use for this? Thank you
I used max speilman in the uk
@@DMProductions great i get that now thanks for the swift answer.
More money, more drones! 😆
exactly... i bought a drone for my holidays, but now i have been approached by an estate agent. Free money I must say. use ur drone, and the later buy one strictly for business
Awesome video Darren thank you! Any recommendation for drone insurance for a mavic mini2? You mentioned one for £30 a year in your video
Go compare now do a comparison site based on post code etc so give that a shot but yes cover drone are good too
Inspirational !!
Two small hotels in my little town.
Checking the weather channel after typing this.
Keep 'em Coming !!
Nice one ! So many people have gained good success it’s so great to hear !
Great inspiring video.. Can't beat being paid for something you enjoy doing...👏👏
Thanks so much JJ
Do you have a video of when to use what nd filter
Sure I did a video couple weeks ago titled you need ND
Based on your experience, what would you say is a good video length?
90 seconds but grab the attention quick
This is awesome information and I’m also visiting my hometown of Thornton near Blackpool next month and will bring my new drone from Thailand where I now live.
I already have both of a M2P and a Mini 2. I just need to get a Part 107 license first which I'm taking more time studying for it.
How are you studying for it? Trying to figure out where to start.
Are you watermarking your photos before sending them to these places?
Yes buddy
@@DMProductions I can get one through work at a very good price so i will be trying this out I'm lucky enough to be in the lake District so will make for some very good shots 😁
Dude I can’t wait for this video!
Thank you 🙏 chat along later !
Hello…nice video and definitely following…I have a question…Don’t you need permission of the hotel to take some pictures and videos of their property? Just wondering because I just got my mini2 so I want in in doing this type of work I just don’t want any company coming behind me and requesting all the pictures that I took.
In the US you need a commercial FAA license to make any money with drones
Not if its below 250g like the mini 2. From my understanding
@@THIRDRATEPRODUCTIONS
Does not appear to the the case unfortunately, you don’t need to register them for recreational flying but if it’s being used for commercial you still need the cert
