You say “Buy cheap buy twice” but even two Mavic Minis cost less than the Mavic Air. Plus if you purchase the DJI Care Refresh for $39 (US dollars) then you can actually purchase two replacement drones (within a year) if the Mini is damaged (even covers pilot error). First replacement cost of $40 and second replacement cost of $49. So one could actually purchase THREE Mavic Minis for roughly $400 LESS than the Mavic Air.

DanJ the “cheap quality” of the Mini is still a better buy than the Air. Better quality video than the Air. The only reason it is less expensive is due to obstacle avoidance detection. So IMO the Mini is a better buy.

I've been flying multirotors since 2013 and just bought a mini. It's pretty incredible. I'm always blown away with how simple these ready-made quads are. If you already know how to fly nose-in with a manual unstablized multirotor, piloting the mini will seem like baytown frolics. It doesn't have obstacle avoidance, but for an RC guy, it's not really needed or expected.

the fact that it feels a little "flexing/giving" is precisely what will distribute the stresses and together with the 250g weight keep it from taking much damage when crashed. (source: experience in not breaking it when crashing + phd in mechanical engineering)

I’ve found the Mavic Mini to be quite durable, Ive dropped it in a pond, dried it out as best I could then left it to dry over 2 days and surprisingly it worked just fine when I started it up again. It took another swim in a pool last week and I did the same thing, I dried it best could and left it for 2 days, still works! Also has some light run ins with some walls and some decent falls. Still flying like a champ. I got the care refresh just in case tho!

Great video. I love my mini! Much better then the air I sold last year. I have been flying in Canada winter's for many years and have never had a problem like I did two days ago. I was flying in -4 Celsius over a creek and my mini just dropped and I was extremely lucky it landed on an island of snow. I had an IMU error on my screen. I guess the mini is more sensitive to cold then most bigger drones. Just thought I would share ! Keep up the great work with these videos! My favorite drone channel for sure👌

The Mavic mini is a cheaper lighter option. If you want the extras you go up a level and buy more expensive product (Although , being two years older than the mini, the advances in tech have put it on its metal a bit.) ... the Mavic air. On a personal note. I prefer the MA precisely BECAUSE it’s noisier, and easier to find again if you loose sight of it while flying. Which often means not having to stop everything to return until you can see it again.
Image quality is everything at the end of the day. And my P4(a) kicks the MAs bum. BUT, for MOST applications and for most clients. I have found that the Mavic Air is good enough for their requirements. So, I still use it, and it’s a great little aircraft.
Because of its portability it is the one we take on holiday with us. And we enjoy the results. So. I think that in spite of it being much older tech, it is still relevant today.

Yeah, spot on video! I have a Mini and I can say that the number one drawback is the wind resistance. I was in the Dolomites last week and almost all the time the drone was up in the air, it displayed the "wind warning" on the screen. Luckily for some shots, I used the Mavic Air, that a friend of mine had with him and that one had no problem handling the weather, but for 12-13 min of flight/battery...for me, that's a big No-No. What can I say...it's always pros and cons... Cheers from Romania!

I bought the mini as a first drone and I’m amazed. My buddy owns several dji products so I will be able to compare them this summer, but for now it’s amazing. Slowly getting braver and braver but amazed with how far I can fly and be in control. Little glitchy at further range but still really amazing. The stability in wind is awesome. Very steady video in the wind.
From what I can see and have saw online and in videos if you can afford a mavic pro or pro 2 then get that but if you want to wet your feet and get practiced up or have a smaller budget then get the mini and you most likely will be very impressed. Learn on. $650can. Drone then get a $2000 drone.
    Enjoy! I know I do.

I found a Mavic mini 2 days ago, watching the video I can see this drone hit the trees HARD the battery was 15m away. One £6 arm at the rear suffered a small crack! personally I'm very impressed with the damag because if that was my p4 it would be destroyed.
Don't worry I have advertised the found device all over fb so hopefully it'll be reunited shortly

I have had a P2V+ from the time it came out. To setup for a flight was a pain what with charging phone / controller / wifi extender / remote but with the MM so so much less messing around. I love the MM only downside for me is you have to fly it when there is no wind.

I got the Mavic mini and loved it. Price is amazing and always get the fly more combo. The quick shot being so basic is not deal breaker cause I like control over my footage so I do it manually. I crashed it once due to the lack of obstacle avoidance but still fly no problem though I got the bottom cover replaced just because I want it to look good (hehehe...) and the price of spare parts is really cheap so its not really a buy cheap buy twice. the only thing I would like to have is active track I know it is capable cause it can track subjects during quick shots.

Great video as always, bud! Very informative👍👍
I own a Mavic Air, Mavic Pro 2, and I just bought the Mini and I would say the Mini is a great starter drone, but I noticed in windy conditions the drone does not respond well. The another thing I personally did not like is that the Mini loses connection very quickly and the connection is very choppy. My personal opinion, I would save up and just buy the Air or save more and get the Mavic 2 Zoom

I own both mini and air, BUT ! although my mavic air is my baby and my 1st choice drone, i have been blown away with what my mini can get away with. I haven't flown my air in a month .so far with me the minis only downfall is, if a cow farts, i have to take that into consideration when i fly as a wind issue lol. PS great presentation and accurate

Excellent and thanks for sharing, had the mini a few months and as my 1st drone i think its ideal, only wish it had RAW lol
If it's the same sensor as the Air hopefully a firmware update could resolve this
ps enjoyed reading your Ebook when i got my mini

i have about 15 hours of flight time on my mavic mini, have crashed it three times. First time it was a simple propeller switch, second time got lucky, third time my hind leg literally came a part, was held only by the wire but i was able to super glue it back with baking soda and have flown it many times since no issue.

I appreciate your videos, and I am now a subscriber. Love your insights and film industry take on all things drone related. Question: And I ask this question with complete r.e.s.p.e.c.t., and in no way in a Trolly kinda way... So I work in television and film as well, and I will be getting either a Mavic 3Pro or and Autel Evo 2 6k when they are out,. But in thew meantime I need something between $600-$1200 to replace my out of date and defunct Phantom 2+. I have been leaning towards getting either the Mini, the Air or a refurbished Mavic Pro (especially when people start selling all their Mavics to get themselves a new Skydio/Evo2/Mavic 3. I am very surprised with your assessment of the 2 camera systems. I am wondering about those optical oddities you mentioned experiencing with your Mavic Air, like the red color phasing and red color shifts, and the noisy darks left after the color correction was done. Are those flaws that are common amongst all Mavic Air line, OR do you think you were possibly sold a Lemon? An optically defective DJI Mavic Air, that just happened to have red shift tendencies, and other wEiRd flaws ? I just would hate to purchase a new Mavic MIni, after all these months debating the pros and cons of each, because of the facts I saw in this review, then, when I decide to compare shots from my new Mavic Mini with my coworkers new Mavic Air , and find out the hard way that you DID indeed get sold a lemon, and those odd optic problems your drone is experiencing are just a fluke, and not comparable to a properly functioning 4k Mavic Air? I, like most, would ASSume from what is on paper for the Mavic Air, that a 4k cam with the optics they boast it employs, will out-perform its 2.7k competitor the Mavic Mini ? Thoughts?

Very nice video. I have a Mavic Air that I bought not too long ago, so I do question myself sometimes, should I have waited and then I would've been able to buy a Mavic Mini? But, to be honest, considering where I live (Isle of Man) and all the reviews I've seen of how the Mavic Mini handles strong winds, I may have gone for the Mavic Mini if it had been here when I decided to buy a drone but that would've meant that I wouldn't fly it very frequently and nowhere near as often as the Mavic Air. So, at least for me, the sturdiness and the ability to handle stronger winds of the Mavic Air makes it a clear winner - but then again, as you said time and again, that's due to personal conditions.
I've really enjoyed the incredible amount of details you provided, thanks, and keep up the videos, please! :)

Great video ! ABout the video quality difference... I came from the photographer world, where underexposing was a must... then I bought a SOny a6000 and shot one month of footage underexposed... and in the dark area all looked like crap... Meanwhile my friend used a Sony a6500, and overexposed lots of shots, and I managed to get back a vast amount of picture information from the blownout parts !!! SO my question would be: did you try to record a bit overexposed on the MAvic Air ? Thatt would be interesting experiment... And definitely would help to choose between the two ! MAny thanks ! Cheers !
