I flew my Air yesterday again after a long period and I really enjoyed it.
I really like the compact form factor, I like the looks (looks cute) and okay the battery is a bit shorter but I can live with that. And I still have a lot to learn to make real cinematic videos.
So, no upgrade for me

new models will keep on coming and make us want to buy that
but some have brains like us :P
This is what I needed to har right now honestly. I wasn't sure if I wanted to upgrade, but taking a step back and realising how much I need to learn to actually make the most out of the upgrade, and the fact that I don't make a living out of it, makes me want to stay with the Air.

I drive a dump truck and sit alot, so I fly my air and mavic 2, and I really do still enjoy my air very much, I feel its easier to use, but loved the video, it was very helpful. One thing I would add from experience, the fixed antennas are a mistake i would describe the change as temporarily more rigid, but from toting i. Dumptruck even in Smart tree case, the antenna breaks.
I'm currently exploring soft antenna and simpler landing gear for mavic 2.

Honestly, I would take the Mavic Air 2 over may original Air even just for the Ocusync 2 controller. The wifi sucks. Yes, you can get like 500m on a plain field, but you get strong interference warning even at like 50m, when there is a house, tree or just a bunch of WiFi hotspots in the area (I guess). It is so annoying and I had a few close calls, when it just took over control and started coming back, ignoring trees and power lines. Also the larger sensor for stills would be nice.
Yessss agreed. I used to fly mini and it barely flies 50m due to interference. Everything changed when I switch to air 2 :)
The things that anger me most are: 1) changing the app to DJI Fly - this stops sideways compatibility of the DJI Crystal Sky which I used on both my Phantom 4 Pro and original Air, 2) these products are NOT cheap, and DJI seem to care only about the next new product, not existing customers. Constant battery design changes does not = environmentally friendliness as we all collect up now obsolete batteries as the new drones get released. By all means redesign the drone, but find a way to enable backward compatibility of batteries. Instead what DJI do is make the battery a part of the overall design, and all that does is ensure their pockets are filled with new sources of battery revenues too. 3) mobile phones are less stable to use than a CrystalSky - so why up until now have DJI refused to release Android 6.x upgrades for it? And those of us who own them shelled out between £500-1000 for one!
Makes you wonder if they’ll add a side sensor to the next version, or keep that function for higher end models.

all in all looks like great upgrade, but Ill stick with air 1; I like that gimbal is actually protected by body in case of crash and controller is smaller as well as drone as pointed giving it smaller overall package when traveling, other thing is I think Air 1 arms looks more tougher to brake (maybe coz of the lenght). Shame it fly's only about 15 minutes tho but Ive got 4 batterys so Im kinda good for about an hour flight. The only advantage I would change for is Occusync and battery life, but that does not give me anough pros to upgrade...
If you are flying in a low interference area, wifi is fine anyway. I pretty much never have any breakup in signal
100% agree bro. Mavic 1 is a brilliant design and can record 4k just fine. Easy to travel with and some wouldn't even believe I am carrying it with me.

I am actually very surprised by the 1080p quality. To me, it looks even better than 4k, because 4k on this drone is way too oversharpened. @Kai W, can you confirm that the scenes from 6:29 are definitely shot using 1080p? If so, the Mavic Air 2 is a buy for me.
Real question is do you have the same features with just using your phone or recommend buying the smart control?

im so glad that troughout this whole shebang my country never was so dumb to think a curfew helps... we had lockish downy things but thats just for busines - you where never forbidden to go out for a walk/hike etc. :D

Tried the tracking and it flew straight into a tree on the first day I had it. Second flight it returned to home onto a tree.....yeah the sensors leave alot to be desired.

You're right👋. With the Air the big point was all the great tech in a size you could fit in your pocket. Along with the selfie emphasis with the gesture control etc. The Air 2 is non appealing to me

hello...my fellows and friends...My DJI Spark flew away in the wind in Nov 2019. I was so distraught and shocked, I decided to leave it all. Now i want to try again...but this time I am looking at the Air or Air2. My biggest fear is 'flyaway' ..Can anyone tell me if the connectivity issue is any different for the Air vs Air2?

I sold my air already . I hated how it disconnects intermittently and its uncontrollable yaw . I bought the flymore pack and still flying without any flaws so far . The only thing i hate is the fly app . Have to relearn from go 4

The new mavic is 2 times better than the original.
Original Mavic Air looks better to me, dynamic range better, colors better, and more accurate picture. Mavic Air 2 picture has too much extra detail... too much contrast, extra sharp... but Oculus 2 and 30min. fly time looks great!!!
Has Air 1 better dynamic range?
looks a bit toy ish to me then other older drones of the mavic. Maybe there trying to make it a little crash resistant.

Well, there will always be better technology then the previous one today it's Air 2 tomorrow it will be Air 3 .. I have decided between pro, spark & Mini - "Mavic Air" fits in will all checks !! obstacle avoidance, 4K , small and durable .. I am happy with Mavic air !! As a hobbyist its more then ennough and a great one time investment

Alex Diesel no you fang. Because it is using occusinc connection, not wifi.
I prefer to just have the sensors off when flying, its very annoying when you are trying to film close and the sensors keey trying to stop the drone and ruins the shots... its easier to just learn how to fly your drones

Won't be upgrading anytime soon. #1...I hate flying with a phone! Can't see shit, questionable brightness and no detail abounds. With the MP2 can fly with CS monitor and oh what a difference! Will never again fly with a phone. Having said that...DJI says, with subsequent fw updates, that the SC will be compatible.
