This video came at the perfect time! I’ve recently just been getting into Gunpla thanks to this amazing channel and have been debating on which RX-78-2 kit to buy, now I definitely know.
For new people thats getting into gundam, its not necesarry to start with a rx78, you can even start with a perfect grade if you want. I myself dont even have a rx yet but do plan to get 1. Also welcome to gunpla world
Since we have a PBandai shop, it was actually cheaper for me to buy this than the retailer version in my country. You need to be lightning fast at tapping tho to check it out.
7:43 In the movie there are a few scenes where the shield is visor up. Also I just rewatched the anime and it can hold it either way. Whether or not that was how it was supposed to work in canon IDK, but it has always been able to do either.
The grandpappi kits are always interesting and a little bit different. Personally I think the RG is by far the best looking, but it suffers from overdesign and poor tolerances. HG kits are the most fun of all the grades. I've packed away almost all of my gunpla due to space issues, but I have one sitting on my table (also on a good smile stand) which is the HG Dagger. It can pose in pretty much any way you want. The more I've played around with it and looked at it, the more I'm impressed with this thing, it really is phenomenal in every way and especially for such a cheap little kit.
I have like $800 off gunpla on hold at a store that I’m picking up tomorrow. And I have an hg rx78 the origin and mg rx78 the origin in the mix. Look forward to the builds
Well, speaking of Doan’s Island PBandai releases, I recently got Sleggar’s GM, and I noticed a few things. 1) The runners are labeled “HG 1/144 GM,” not specifically Sleggar’s GM, so we may see a generic Origin GM in the future; 2) you can give it two beam sabers and two wrist launchers; and 3) it has a color-separated crotch V.
Yeah, the basic GM does need a new kit with the old one being extremely outdated...and it's position as an easy starting point being replaced with the Entry Grade kits.
@@AzraelThanatos Well, with Origin GMs getting a full release, we finally got what we’ve been asking for. Those who want a more traditional GM are still kinda in the dark, but I’m sure people will make conversion kits for the Origin version.
I think you're thinking of the rebranded box which marketed and was branded as Gundam Hathaway and NOT Char's Counterattack, where it actually came from. Even I find it pretty weird.
Man, I dig my HG RX-78-02. But I gotta say that the MG is so much better. It took me a while to track down the MG because I was late to the party, so I built the HG first. That being said... those waterslides look like kind of a game changer... Eh, fuck it. I'll buy another one.
This looks really cool! I've been thinking of getting an Origin Gundam. And you sealed the deal for me!^^ Also, have you ever tried swapping the heads with the rxs at any point? Does great for ascetics
The 2020 kit came with stickers that included some circular ones that stuck onto the cylindrical servos on the knees and legs. Did you use those, or just used some marker?
Don't bother. The lost episode of the original Gundam here on youtube is so much better than the Cucuruz Doan movie. Nice mech designs, but the story suck. It ruined Amuro's character. The original episode from 1979 treated Amuro with more dignity. The movie just made him look weak and stupid.
I have to say that the Origin's version is probably the best representation of the classic Gundam. Is there any word on the 'Late Type' version of the RX-78-02 Gundam [Origins] coming? I think it's a bit surprising that we still don't have one (unless I am mistaken).
What a strange comment. No one told you to get rid of your kit. Besides, they are essentially the same. But the box based on the movie is so much more collectible than the generic mass release box, which matters only if you collect such things.
This kit and the Origin are great kits it's just I can't justify that price tag, especially when both the HG revive and EG full weapon set perfectly do the job at much cheaper prices. Plus at 2300 yen there are better kits to buy than this imo like the HGCE line or add a little more for the 00 RGs.
Because it's not always about what is the "better value", sometimes it really about just getting what you like. Yes, the Entry Grade and the RG Revive versions of the RX-78-2 may be decent representations, but truthfully, the Origin version is just simply better in terms of design, aesthetics, build quality and all-around coolness.
As long as it sells...and it still does. I recently found some HG The Origin RX-78-02 at a few physical toy stores, and they sold out in a matter of days. They cannot keep the RX-78-2 in stock for long.
The revive is more anime accurate so he wins Plus the revive revolutionized the entire HGUC line by itself. And became the baseline standard for every HG kit from that point onward
@@akared8273 well, in terms of accuracy to the old 1979 anime, there are a couple that comes close, but they are not model kits. The first is the chogokin Gundam toy that came out in the late 1990s (probably around 1998 or 1999). The second is the Robot Spirits ANIME "First Touch" Tamashii Nation 2017 exclusive, it's got the more accurate colors than the mass release version.
Man..... a fucking update movie AND ANOTHER GRANDADDY KIT based on a fuckin deleted episode from the first gundam series. I get we should respect where started but RX 78 and the first series gets milked way to much. I'm kinda sick of UC
There is a reason why Bandai keep on releasing RX-78-2 kits and stores can't seem to keep them in stock, while newer kits from recent shows like the Witch from Mercury or Blood Orphan seem to clog shelves.
The Origin version is still my fave. It definitely makes the RG version look OOOLD, despite the RG looking a bit more mean and pissed-off
MG Ver Ka. Gramps has a pretty pissed off face, more so than the origin version
Heck, the HGO Zaku II makes the RG one not worth the purchase anymore.
@@mechalinkergaming7169 and more stable than handgrenade rg zaku2 too 😂
If u have rg Rx-78-2 2.0 it breaks the origin and the pgu but this version its like mini pgu
Its insane how quickly you get a hold of new kits, build them, and produce content for them.
I completely get you. Even me in Asia, somehow has to wait for 2 months before i can even get it. And it's finished? Well time to do more waiting
He's not the most famous gunpla youtuber for no reason.

Exactly. Its built so quick! Meanwhile i have an unbuilt seravee thats just been sitting in my backlog for a month

The secret is, they build them really badly. And while not exactly sober lmao.

Bandai just needs to remake the OG movie trilogy but in Origin style animation.

New, modern kits are awesome, but some old kits are good too. So maybe you can review a few old kits that are popular during the time up until now.
another great vid!! (such a pleasing voice!!) I enjoyed this review and thanks for the things i learned about this kit thanks to you!
I like how this RX-78-2 Gundam is base on the origin one of the best kit of that gunpla it's great and wanting me to plan to collect them all.
It’s beautiful, I love this model. I think I should get one of these.

that last aerial shooting pose is awesome
You ranked the Origin Gundam Platinum Tier in your comparison video
Origin Mech Gaikotsu version is still the best 1/144 RX-78
The PBandai Clear RG Nu had a Special Artwork box too, it didn’t have the typical Gundam Base box

I aint surprise if there ready player one rx-78-2 in the future

Hope they do the rg Sinanju while theyre at it. Id love to get one, but its such a handgrenade

Mecha Gaikotsu : Yes

Sadly in my country, the delivery has been delayed to late oct.

if I remembered correctly in the movie it never used its bazooka weapon.

I preordered it MONTHS ago but I think the store I ordered it from shit the bed ☹️
Hopefully the same won’t happen with Arcee

Have you obtained the HG Shenlong yet??

I skipped this one since it's basically the origin version. Kinda regret not getting Doan.
Then get any 1/144 Zaku 2 and give it weathering, color some of its tube gray, and just give it 1 ax, there you go, "Doan's Zaku".
