Man they're really pushing high grades to the max these days, I'm loving it
The build is very much a high grade build, but the detail is fantastic, really looks like a scaled down Master Grade. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like Bandai wants to make this style the standard.

@@a_wisepenny9227 I don't think so, I think HGs are just meant to maintain an anime accurate design, which in the case of The Origin is detailed but not so much in other series.

There’s so many RX-78-2 types it’s hard to choose! I might wait for the Beyond Global version for that new tech they’ve been showing off.

Things are going to get crazy when it becomes the norm for most hg's.
THis is one of the best HG RX 78-2 kit.
I’m new, but the MG Origin one is quite cool. Plenty of articulations,and I’m especially impressed with the legs articulation.

2.0 have simplistic anime accurate design with great inner frame
3.0 is basically 1/100 version of the rg and it have great color separation and armor sifting gimmick when you move them

YES! please! I ended up having to find a resin kit on ebay to make my own MG origin zaku II to go with my rx78-02, and I'm certain I got a knockoff recast of the parts. Abysmal experience, everything was warped or needed dremeling to even fit, but I made it work.
That would be a first day purchase for me
dear bandai, just change the outer armor will be enough for the mg origin zaku, remain its 2.0 inner frame

Probably, you have overlooked the upcoming Beyond Global version..
Mines probably not gonna get delivered until this is over, I’ve also got a G40 with it. I don’t have a backlog so the delay is killing me.

Yeah it really sucks. This would be the perfect time to build a kit. I unfortunately preordered this kit months ago, but due to the pandemic my order wont be fulfilled for awhile.
A few minor building tips...
(1) Head vulcans are a bit fragile and tend to jam the head side armour when you are installing it. Do not try to force the head side armour in. You need to angle it a bit to get it in.
(2) There is an extra wrist vulcan pod if you want more dakka.
(3) Sadly, there is no extra chest vulcan pod.
(4) The front skirts will get super floppy if you clip them; be aware and have a plan for reinforcing/thickening the ball joints just a smidgen. Or drill them out and insert a pin.

Technically you can just make one using GM Guard Custom head, shoulder armors, and Gundam Origin for the rest.

The Night Seeker has a ton of normal GM looking parts such as new shoulders and legs, we can hope
@@thomastsuihn I was just looking at that. This makes it even more ridiculous that Bandai hasn’t issued a GM revive. The parts are all freaking there! Just put them together!
I've been wanting to get a model kit of the RX-78-02 and Char's custom Zaku II but with so many versions i was struggling to decide which ones i wanted. This review helped me decide to get the HG The Origin versions of both. Thanks Zach!
Try the revive one,it's cheaper and fun to build and I can't for the revive zaku 2 red comet as well
I've been waiting for bandai to make an rx78 hg like this, I wasn't feeling any of the other variants like the revive etc. but this one's got it

This is going to be my first gundam im very excited. Never built a model kit before
I'm definitely pretty glad I picked this kid up. I had one of the older GM kits from the same line, but all of the joint parts were pretty loose out of the box. I wouldn't mind painting this one though to somewhat tighten the joints, as it's a really nice kit in general

I've been a fan of RX but never like any model kits BUT this!! I will definitely buy this one for sure!
This is my favorite 1/144 scale RX-78-2 so far. Looks nice next to my MG version.
The middle type looks kinda like the Ver Ka
If I had to guess, I'd say if Bandai were going to put out anymore HG Origin kits, they'd put out the version of the Guncannon used on White Base. It'd basically be a color swap of the First Type with different hand options and its beam rifle and maybe a different head/backpack. They could also put out a standard GM and a few more variations outside of the Guard Custom

I got two of the kits, since I want to display them both versions
I really hope they do the GM Origin version it's so badass and the GM Guard Custom already has some of the molds it uses

We still have one more really interesting HG grandpa coming this year, though. The Beyond Global version doesn't seem to have the detail (or the decals) that this one does but the engineering looks next level.

glad i watched this for a second time i didn’t even notice the chest Vulcan when i built this kit also those two grey pieces you have taken out are forearm are gatling guns there is so many hidden weapons on this kit i love the grand daddy gundam plus all the weapons you do see 👌🏾
lowkey want to get a second kit so i can get two shoulder cannons and two hyper bazookas and custom paint it and leave one with dual beam sabers like amuro 🤔

New generation of HG is getting better and better
The foil sticker for the eyes was hard to stick for me. Don’t know why. Also the red center part for the middle attachment to the helmet keeps falling out for me. The handles to the beam sabers don’t stay nested into the back. Other than that and a few parts not closing tighter than I like it was fun to build. I’m a noob so maybe it being my first build it was issues with me instead but I’d like to think I was competent enough to put it together.
Oh, the Hyper Bazooka is very nice. It looks a lot like the Alex's bazooka, which has never been in a HG kit.

We are still missing the Guncannon in red and with regular hands.
I don’t think they will make a Red Guncannon with the regular hands. Bandai might go with the Origin Manga design since it will be a pretty easy remold with some minor changes from the GC Calvary.

The best looking granddaddy after we saw the super ugly/unique G40. Pretty excited when they announced this kit and now the price of this kit is jacked up by the seller which sucks. Won't get it right away but definitely will get it eventually!
And the Beyond Global ver...so far we only get a few images of it and it doesn't look all that good in terms of proportion...
Its been two years, but this still reigns true. This kit has been severely overpriced by online sellers, its crazy.
By the way, since the Beyond Global has been out now, is your opinion still the same as before?
@@2spky5me I got the Beyond Global kit after we got the proper promotional images. The proportion is growing on me and I actually like the overall design!
@@fantastiCkiLler92 compared to the origin, which one do you prefer? To me, the beyond global looks a bit thin and small for my taste.
@@2spky5me I like both, but if you want me to pick one I'll choose Beyond Global one. It looks dynamic when you pose it, and I really love that pastel color too.

the amount of different versions of HG granddaddy being released is too damn high, lol! i know its to celebrate the anniversary so it depends on which version of him you want to buy, but for me i will take all of them because they look different enough to me.
I like that you can just ignore the early type and middle type and build it as a somewhat traditional RX-78-2

I think the early type with the middle-type Ver. Ka-esque shoulders will look super cool. I love little bar details like that. ^.^

Finally an Origin RX-78 i can afford
if they ever make a new RG grampa, i hope they make it out of this origin version. it would work out considering how different this is from the classic 40 year-old design, and an excuse to update the accessories. simmilar to the recent TV version of the wing, it would be great if they updated the RG using a different design.
itll also give them an excuse to also update the zaku, and boy would the origin zaku in RG form be wildly cool.
I think I might get him to complement the mg the hg origin kits are great and I want bandai to know thats what they need to keep doing

Do you think we will get a hg origins RGM-79 vanilla gm? We seriously need a new version in 1/144 and that would be a great addition to the line.
They basically have all the parts for it with the GM Night Seeker. At this point, I’m positive that the only reason that we don’t have a GM revive at this point is that Bandai is actively avoiding it for whatever reason.
How did you get your water decals to look so good, mine always seem to have a glossy finish over it and you can clearly see the borders of where it was cut out.

I just want a RG Origin Late Type RX-78-02 T_T and also, at least, HG Origin White Base's Guncannon and Guntank and Ramba Ral's Gouf.
This is kind of good for a HG (I have the MG, but it's just not detailed enough to look good at that scale) but I think the HG Origin Zakus look better, this has too many holes and they make it seems more like a toy than a model.

I don't think it will be the last one especially since there's been a few more hints that bandai will be fully adapting the rest of original (ex: that recent crunchyroll article hinting at a new gundam anime related to the original (no it's not outdated))

Great review! Question, when taking off stickers for paining prep is there some sort of special technique or solvent to get off the residue?
Lighter fluid does the trick and isn’t too harsh on the plastic

@@Coolio_Ash Origin is an alternate version of UC.
Trade off for mobility.
This becomes a bit more obvious as the RX-78-02 Gundam gets continuously upgraded during the One Year War.
The middle type adds the hidden rear calf thrusters and handles on the shoulder armor which eases the means to be transported by a transport plane.
The late type RX-78-02 Gundam has more thrusters in the shoulders, chest, backpack (similar to the RX-78-01 FSD), knee caps and rear calves aside from a core fighter and the magnetic coating joints.

The only thing this is missing is a core fighter. But honestly do you want one in it’s stomach to interfere with articulation?
I love the build so far, but what the best way to clean up the thrusters after removed off the spruce tree?

I don’t panel line unpainted kits, I’ll just have to panel line it again once it’s painted. Point of these reviews is to show how the kits look straight out of the box without adding anything
