Its far from the best. Ab articulation still sucks. Should have just molded separate parts for action gimmick, and the core fighter. They have done it on some ultraman figure rise kits. You can choose between light or articulation gimmick. Its pretty, yes. But those microscopic details wont do any good on the shelf. Heck, even my hg calibarn is more impressive on the shelf. And holy moly you could feel the difficulty bandai faced on making this kit. Cramming those details on a very small kit just made it unstable. I bet months from now this RG would always disintegrate from the waist.

I have yet to build the RG high nu so will see how it compares to this 2.0 version. The build is solid. Everything is tight and easy to pose. 14:50 There are 3 points of torso articualtion. 1st is the upper section like you demonstrated. 2nd is in-between the red torso sections where you're supposed to extend or pull the upper section up for a bit to access the mid torso articulation. 3rd is in the waist unit where you're supposed to reposition the front and back parts of the waist armor to unlock a bit of forward crunch like the Nu and Hi Nu. This is all shown in the manual and I honestly don't get why a lot of English speaking reviewers miss this detail.
As an old man having to fire up my long dormant model making skills to help out my grandson, all I can say is that this is very impressive compared with the static, stick together, basic, inaccurate aeroplane kits of more years ago than I care to mention. This is an engineering marvel. I do miss the smell of the glue though. 🤫
A lot of people forget how revolutionary the first real grade was. The injection molding was ahead of its time only really seen on a couple of kits like OYW, shin musha and perfect grades. But for them to incorporate articulated fingers. It was when I knew back in 09 real grade was where Bandai was going to put their RNG in even though they fumbled with some kits until unicorn and sazabi they got their shit together.
Just got mine can’t wait to built it on my day off I have been enjoying bandais Real Grade renaissance starting with the Sazabi they have been knocking it out of the park ever since consistently with every RG release.
Very excited to pick this up! The original RG was one of my first kits, and it frustrated me enough that I don't even display it. It seems like this version fixed pretty much all the issues I had with it!
Kinda miss the b frames, they kept the price down but the 1/144 mg style builds are a good alternative. Hope they revisit the Zaku and Zeta in the future.
I recently finished the rg rx78-2 because I thought it was the 2.0 but I was wrong it was the 1.0 and while it was still fun and a cool kit it was a hand grenade

Bandai were cookin' with this one. And 2.0s mean maybe the Sinanju will get its redemption arc. That and the Zeta need it most. Maybe they'll release a 2.0 for Johnny Ridden's Zaku since they seem allergic to reprinting the damn thing!
i love when some inner frame poking through the outer armor but i think this a bit much, and i find in some dynamic poses he seems a bit too lanky in proportion

You know, I'm kind of wondering if we're going to get a P-Bandai RG RX-78-f00 kit considering a lot of the details there, it wouldn't take that much to have alternate parts for that one There's also a few 3rd party core block options
I don't even own an RG yet but it looks sick. Hope Bandai can make 2.0. versions of Strike, Exia, Unicorn, or any older RG Kits, especially the Zeta. Also, hope they can release the G Armor.
they did for the first few rgs, but i saw a bunch of pics of the face mask snaping cause holes for vents = thinner section so they prob stopped cause it was an actual break risk (such a small face plate is squeezed by the runners when you cut one side, and even more pressure when you cut the other)
@@valentetellezperez6538 speaking of, the old RG vents were also way too thick because of the fact they were holes, you can only make them so thin, and as such, it can look wrong yo some people. Gundam markers simplify this factor. (imo, the mouth vents on my RG wing ew look so much worse than the tallgeese)
The only difference I don't like is the one I don't really see anyone talking about, and that's that the face looks like it's been squished upwards. Would the 1.0 head be able to attach to this kit?
@ZakuAurelius thanks Mr. I was quite curious, I find it ok on that scale, but it seems like the vulcans were too recessed according to early Japanese reviewers with reports of some misalignment in the head parts. 😅 I know some with ocs who will try to mod it though it all ends up on whether it was intentional or not
everything about this kit is great but man the posing (esp at 18:40 and forward) is really awkward, like it looks good in idle pose but everything else feels like they f-ed up placement of articulation points, making the torso too long

Seems after 45 years they could have done more with this kit. I grabbed 2 just to have them but not totally excited about them, the original is just fine and I prefer the articulation in the hands. By the way the loose articulated parts tighten up after painting anyways and if you are just displaying them there's no issue at all.

Visually I do prefer that original RG. Very striking design. The torso is quite long on this guy I noticed. It's a interesting choice. Anyway if you do really love the look of the original RG and do not care too much about scale get the 3.0. That's a excellent kit. Tighten the waist rocking joint and don't use the awful decals and it'll be great
For me, and I know I'm probably alone on this, the 2.0 is a huge disappointment even with the stability and pose-ability (minus the lack of core block/ proper waist crunch) being miles ahead. I am a new builder and was waiting for the 2.0 before getting a RX 78 real grade. The missing core block, missing pilot figure (which is another difference with the 1.0, I know it's not standard anymore, but it's still a bummer), lack of multi tone color separation, and those GOD AWFUL holes everywhere completely soured me. I'm surprised you are fine with it considering we are usually in agreement on liking more elegant designs. I was so disappointed in fact, that I actually decided to buy the 1.0, jank and all. I feel like Bandai is focusing on the bare essentials now, which is good, but comes at the expense of those extra somethings that really make some of the kits feel special to me. No art on the inside of the boxes, MGs no longer have dry transfers, missing pilot figures in RGs, etc etc etc. To me, all the little extras really add up and matter in the end. Or, maybe I'm just a weirdo.
I'm in total agreement on the molded in tic marks. They do not look good. Also, for me some of proportions look really weird. The abdomen (red) and the waist and thighs.
if this is the same one from ill say 2020ish be very very carful of 1 the feet when assembling them mine broke very easily 2 the armor parts mine also broke very very easily on the left upper thigh along with some other parts on the left side of the body, i have him holding the shield in a way that hides the broken or missing parts, the feet were never fixed ether so its on an action base in a awkward pose to hide everything and is going to stay that way. out of all the RG's iv build the most stable and solid one is the Tallgeese EW. i like the EW wing zero but the top of the head that holds the V fine just fell off and i never found it, its still holding its pose 5 years later tho.

The best RG for now, just because it has hard point in it’s back, making this kit has the most potential for easy customization among RG line till now

I got mine built without the core fighter, inside, just reattach the waist and there’s a small latch that comes down to lock the waist to the legs

14:32 it looks great but sheesh those o rings in the arms do not inspire confidence. Ive had any kit with those break or crack, especially over time.
They’re solid, you aren’t going to break these ones unless you’re trying to. You put them on and twist them into place and they lock there.

The head of HG Origins GM (shoulder cannon/missile pod) would probably match the details best.
You still need a new skirt part. It's not just the head.
