Fun fact: Yoshiyuki Tomino said that the word ‘Gundam’ means “a unit wielding a gun powerful enough to hold back enemies like a hydroelectric dam holding back water”
NGL. First experience with Gundam was 1995 from a bad chinese dubbed VHS tape of 0079 Thought it was an USA made cartoon due to RX-78-2 colouring. Fell in love with Zaku 2 more than the project V suits from the start of ep.1, due to the monoeye and the "Juoong" activation sound. 2nd fav was the Guntank (because of DOOM chaingun)
I honestly think Entry Grades are underrated in the community. They are cheap, require no tools, and still give you the experience of putting a lot together, albeit with much better runner organization. I love them for practicing new techniques for customization, whether it be painting or scribing. I would whole heartedly recommend them to anyone new or intermediate (for cheap kits to practice on). Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
I second this! I put together an EG Grandpa with my 6-year-old nephew and he absolutely loved it. He's still a little young so I'm going to wait to get him any of the kits from this video but for now, I'm getting the new entry grade Strike for his birthday.
I started with the EG RX-78-2 and it was pretty much the perfect entry point into the hobby. Have given multiple copies to friends to get them hooked on gunpla as well.
I returned to plastic models after 8 years by building an Entry Grade RX-78-2. Enough to reminds me about the excitement of building plastic models in the simplest way with no tool etc.
I actually would recommend SD kits to beginners due to the simplicity. It's a good way to learn about the basics of gundam. They also are great for experimental customizing. Yes, they aren't great as model kits, but they are good kits to show builders what to do and not feel too upset if they mess up. The first build will definitely not be perfection!
I just started building Gunpla, and I've built nothing but SD kits so far, I've done 4 and they are awesome little chibi bois. Just did the wing gundam clear ew with this video in the background
Another tip... I'd start with picking a kit from a favorite series so a the very least you have a meaningful, emotional attachment to whatever kit/grade you buy from.
@xxnike629xx Another tip, build *FOR REAL* the kit you'll gonna buy. Right, Suiton? *:))* PS In other news, still waiting for you to speak about my HGUC kit being *NOT* a P-Bandai, Sweetie Pie. So, will you.... Do it? Do it? Do it? Do it?Do it? Do it? Do it? Do it? Do it? Do it? huehuehuehuehue
I have built gunpla for about 6 to 7 years already, and I appreciate you did such videos for the newbie into gunpla. ALSO, I am an absolute fan of your gunpla videos, those reviews helped me a lot. Thanks Mecha.
@@nisnast Yeah, including at least one Real Grade. I thought it was working fine, really. There were brand new, good quality nail-clippers, so actually pretty sharp. And while the curved blades made some cuts difficult, sometimes they actually helped! Proper nippers are certainly more convinient to use overall, but if I ever had to go back for some reason, I'd just shrug and go back to the clipper with no big problem.
Same. I buy mainly HGs (and have two thirds of the retail HGUC kits) but i do have some MGs that either don't have an HG or i just like the MS. There's also the Victory and Vs MGs i have cos they actually transform unlike their HGUCs. I also own most retail RG kits, Gundam to Tallgeese.
The most important tip imo: *Pay close attention to the instructions* Dont be like me and start twisting rg tallgeese's arm around wondering "why wont it move" until something snapped.
yeah, my story about not paying close enough attention is I actually missed Q-15 I think on the pg unicorn for both shoulder joints and was confused as hell as why the arms came off so easily and why the two Q runners had a leftover piece. I had to disassemble the torso to fix that mistake, luckily it was not a break (though that did eventually happen, the clip on the psychoframe in the right leg broke and I had to use a solvent glue to stick it back on)
How I chose my first gunpla: Went to store. Saw a MG Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai. Thought the giant sword was cool. Couldn't afford it. Go back to store 6 months later Saw MG Gundam Astray Blue Frame D. Realized TWO gundams had giant swords. Couldn't afford it. Go back to store 2 years later. See MG Astray Red Frame Kai and MG Gundam Astray Blue Frame D. Could afford them. BOUGHT EM BOTH
Been building gunplas for 26 years. Hearing old and new builders stories on their first kit or experience in gunpla always makes me smile and feeling warm inside. Worrying trend in gunpla building community are the increase of toxicity and elitism from both old and new builders. Personally, the most important is to have fun, as the Reggie "ex-Nintendoman" once said: "If it's not fun, why bother?"
I started getting into gunpla builds last year with the MG Barbatos after finishing IBO and was convinced by your review. I also found out about a local gunpla shop in my city and a cool community. Went back two weeks later with my paycheck to splurge on the MG Dynames (convinced by your review), RG Freedom, and HG RX-78-2 (Origin). It became my new hobby ever since.
I just went with nostalgia and first bought the 5 main Gundams from the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing series and am just buying Gundams I think look cool. I'm sure gundam purists will hate my collection but I enjoy it.
me too, I've build the strike gundam because it look cool only to find out later that the pilot was psycopath Shinn, othanfully replaced by Lunamaria, a much better carachter for the gundam. Build what you like, buy what you want ;)
Some additional tips, just in case : - 1. Price doesn't justify how good a gunpla is. 2. Gunpla reviews really help in giving you useful pros and cons about a specific kit. 3. 1/144 Gundam Tristan is sus. 4. Unless you really want a specific kit, and you can accept its con, instantly or over time, ignore those first three tips and GO BUY THAT TRISTAN! Anyway, have fun with your gunpla journey. Who knows, maybe it will change your life for the better. Who knows.
My first was ENTRY GRADE 1/144 RX-78-2 GUNDAM, love it and highly recommend as a very basic but fun build with reliable articulation. I only buy RG and HG for variety, size and as a completionist. My fav series is 00 by far, but I appreciate the UC, Iron Blood, Driver builds and Hathaway model kits and do my best to collect all of them during these low stock covid times. I don't care about seed or wing (except if it's leo grunt
I bought it for my 8 year old son and he totally loves it. I paid only 13 euros for the rx78-2. It's definitely much more valuable than purchasing a deluxe class transformers which usually retail at 25 to 30 eur and being often not that detailed.
As someone who’s never watched Gundam, I found a couple at my local GameStop that looked cool. $25.00 later and I bought Heindree because it was the cheapest of the ones I’d seen. Was a lot of fun to build, and I’d absolutely recommend the High-Grade figures!
my first ever kit was master grade and it was interesting building and learning, and now im on real grade kits and they have very impressive detail as well.
I just bought and currently building my first ever gunpla which is the PG Unicorn Banshee Norn so far so good I thought I was biting too much for a first kit but it’s actually really fun and straight forward despite everyone telling me to start with a HG first
Finally picked up my first gunpla, i bought last year November and it finally arrived, its the no grade 1/144 scale g gundam g-08 from 1994 and im really looking forward to building it
I just finished my first kit ever, a HG Rx -79G Ez8 from 8th MS Team. It was an absolute blast putting it together! I've since bought the RG RX - 0 Unicorn and the MG RX-78-2 Ver.3.0. I am somewhat conflicted of spending money on basically toys as a 30 year old man but... damn it, they are so fun!
I saw your Strike Gundam Entry Grade video. It's now 2 days later, and I'm still sitting here trying to decide what I want to order/build first. You have reignited a passion for model building I have not had since I was 13, and opened up one of the old 90's W-Series Gundam Wing model kits, and struggled with the rubber joints constantly falling apart. I had that whole series of kits, even as poor quality as they are. To find out there's something just as easy to build, way more durable, and infinitely more beautiful straight out of the box has been like a breath of fresh air in my hunt for a hobby.
Don't forget about the RG Tallgeese that kit was the first RG with a MG style inner frame, is very solid and was amazing to build when I was relatively new to the hobby. Mecha Gaikotsu must hate that kit though because it didn't even get a mention on his top ten list for 2018 when even the RG Unicorn from 2017 technically got to share the number 3 spot with two of its reprints.
@@basshibiki Where you have to build the full Inner frame instead of just snip a crap prebuilt inner frame off the runner. If you had built a recent RG you would know this.
@@onionring1531 but I think the Unicorn is the earliest progenitor of fully assembled inner frame. I've built both kits. And both actually still uses the advance ms joints albeit very simple renditions like the Unicorn Knee Joints and for the Tallgeese its the backpact thrusters. You could also counts The 00 QANT as the true earliest progenitor of fully assembled inner frames because the arm parts are built from scratch. And for the right reasons, its fairly solid and strong enough to hold the massive GN Buster sword to a certain degree(emphasis on CERTAIN DEGREE). I've built it and was absolutely blown away.
@@basshibiki To my knowledge all current RGs still use the advance ms joints in some form, just usually not for anything substantial like the head, shoulders, arms, torso, waist, knees, and feet of the Unicorn that were required due to the transformation. You are correct though that the Unicorn was definitely one of the first RGs to incorporate significant amounts of buildable inner frame to connect the prebuilt parts in order to complete the inner frame, as many of the earlier RGs including the 00 QANT did still have non MS joint parts needed to finish the frame they just didn't usually make up any of the joints.
@@basshibiki All RG's before it had a "Preassembled Frame". For example, the leg is a single piece on the runner, and you build the whole arm assembly by laying parts on top of it. An MG-style frame is one where you build each part of the leg individually. This means the leg will have at least two major subassemblies: above and below the knee are built separately then joined together later.
Something I would add about rg, early rg syndrome tends to come in around a year or so after initial building. On top of that, it only really comes if you put stress on the joints, ie holding a weapon or in a stressful pose, or if you move the joints often. So if your going to simply build a rg put it in a standing or other basic pose and throw it on the shelf your golden. Btw, so excited for the favorite mg video!!
honestly I think the 1/100 no grades are probably the best for beginners, they are very simple to build, and as a beginning, you won't even be thinking about doing painting, you'll just be thinking about the build, my first kit was the 1/100 no grade astray red frame, it was a very easy build and it still looks great just outside of the box, I own all 5 colors of this guy
I wish that mobile suits from older series like the Heavygun from F91, or the Jamesgun, Gunblaster, and the Javelin from Victory Gundam could get some love and receive new MG and HG kits at some point.
Just getting into gundam and I’m loving everything about it, I got my model kits, I’m watching the anime, and playing ‘Battle operations 2’ basically I’m all in haha
Target has the hg proto zero, barbie, barbie lupus rex, grandaddy revive, sha zaku ii, and eg grandaddy. Oh and the eg nippers You don't even need a nipper. I remember using some random knife to remove the pieces and it surprisingly worked. Still recommend nippers as they are cheap yet they will last
Target also had the MG Barbie but I haven't seen It on the shelves lately. In fact, they moved all the plastic models from their usual spot by the Hot Wheels and wrestling toys all the way over to back of the videos games section where all the Funko Pop and other pop culture stuff are at and even then I only ever see one or two HG and a random Dragonball Super model kit when before they I used to see about 6 of each kit on the shelf. Kinda sad to see, luckily I snagged a MG Barbie when I did.
@@Rebellion3112 very select targets usually in higher end location targets carry the MG barbatos but vast majority are online only. It’s rare if you see it on the shelves in your store since they only stock 2 at a time
I bought my first gunpla 20 years ago in a small Japanese store in Sydney (I was 15 years old at the time and heavily into all kinds of Anime and this store had it all). At the time I had no idea what Gundam was and what I was even doing. It was also the last time I bought one until last week when I came across your channel and some others and decided to buy a RG RX-93 vGundam. Build has been fun and I already have a MG kit lying around the house and wanting to purchase more. I am quite the collector and amazed that I missed out on this hobby for so long
My first models were no-grade 1/100 models from Destiny, and I think that was a good choice because I was concerned about small pieces and at that scale and level of simplicity they don't have too many. So, different things can be good depending on what your concerns are.
New gundam builder here, i can see that you put alot of effort into your videos, very informative and entertaining and so uve earned my sub and respect.
Still remember I bought my first gunpla on my 2nd year of highschool, an SD Phenex, after graduating highschool, I bought a bunch of SD-Ex gunplas, destroyed by the neighbors kids when they played with them and then when I entered university, my go to gunpla grades are RG kits until now because of the limited space of my room in the dorms and the level of detail, difficulty, size and prize is better for me than buying the MG or HG. My first RG is freedom Gundam.
It's good, but may give a new builder or straight builders a bad experience on the RG line kits. Some RG's are janky and need some mods/repair for the kit to be stable.
@@koweedate Mods/Modification like third party parts such as metal joints replacement for some of the kit frames (I bought one for my RG 00 Qan[T], which fully replaced the B1 and B2 part) or DIY Mod like the Sinanju Pla-plate reinforcement for the waist.
I started with gunpla recently after watching your videos! For my first kit I went with the MG Barbatos, just finished the build today and was a pretty enjoyable experience I would say, a great starter MG. I have the MG Freedom 2.0, Sinanju Stein ver. ka. and Nu ver ka boxes waiting for me. I think i'll build the freedom 2.0 next followed by sinanju stein and the nu ver ka for the last.
The 1:12 Hy2M line contains one more item. The Air-Shock Beam Saber. This is a beam saner that's the size of a human sized lightsaber replica and makes sounds appropriate for certain motions using a gyro and IR sensor in tandem. I have one. It's fun. And you get a wall mount. Good purchase.
Just finished my first HG OZ-06MS LEO and i think i’m in love with gundam now. I have only ever done model cars/tanks/and aircraft, but the added mobility and customization of the gundams is absolutely fascinating to me. although not necessarily hund am, i am hoping to find a model kit of BT-7274 from Titanfall 2.
Interesting, didnt know how they categorize gundams. Thinking about getting into it because I enjoy building the ucs lego sets but theyre not always what I’m looking for
Just built my first kit last weekend. RG Char's Z'gok Saw it at my local game store and impulse bought it because it's my favorite mobile suit from the original series. Went back this week and got the RX-78-2 to go with it (I saw a lot of people saying that's it's a pretty bad kit, but wanted it anyway) I seriously can't believe how fun it is to build these. Not ready for painting yet, but I do plan on doing it eventually
Your experience can be best described as: Has no sexual experience, but decided to engage in S&M and CBT first, to the max. It's scary, It hurts, but it feels so good.
mine are HG, mainly because of the limited space i have in my room and living room. with the exception of Wing series that all are MG.. coz wing series got special place in my heart and introduced me to the gundam series.
While I was researching which Gunpla would be my first, I came across this video. I was mostly thinking about the grade of the kit I would get so I settled for HG. Now I'm 4 kits deep, with plans of buying a MG in a few weeks
I always thought this was too much work but the other day my friend came back with one from Japan cause he thought I built them (he just knew I liked gundam and I have prebuilt ones on my shelf) and I didn’t wanna let it go to waste so I simply just tried and it was so relaxing I built my first high grade in about an hour and 45 minutes and now I’m so excited to build more
I put together a HG Zeta Gundam and I loved it. Not gonna go crazy but definitely gonna build several. Can't wait for my Methuss and Asshimar to come in and definitely looking forward to putting together that RG Sazabi.
I remember when I first started my Gunpla journey, I was absolutely convinced that I wanted the biggest kits I could reasonably afford. I ended up recording the No Grade 1/100 Gundam Astray Green Frame. A fine kit, though I've had to re-glue the arm pegs so many times I've just elected not to pose it anymore. Nowadays I think I'm more of an HG guy. I know there's some amazing Master grades out there, but if you need something to scratch that Gunpla itch on a budget, you really can't go wrong with an HG. My first HG was the RX-78-2 Revive and I fell in love, it did a great job of selling me on everything the line has to offer. Can't wait to build another!
Me too, I started with 1/100 no grades, love the details on it, never really checking out on 1/144 until the Age Kits that convinced me on going all out to HG and recently RG, never looked back on 1/100 kits even MGs because the sparse release and the relatively limited model selections compared to HG
I've been getting back into Lego in my 30s, so I wanted to try different kinds of model building and picked up my first Gunpla kit at a hobby shop (while watching the video I checked and it's an HG). I've barely finished the chest and I'm already looking up other kits because I'm having so much fun! I appreciate this video giving me more insight into what I'm doing. If anyone is curious, I picked up a Kamiki Burning Gundam. I don't know anything about the anime (except that it has a ton of different series), so I picked the one with a sword I thought looked cool.
My first gunpla was the Gundam Airmaster 1/100 no grade, bought it pre 2000 while on a school trip in the UK. It is still part of the collection. Recently built the new HG Airmaster and it is silly how much better it got despite being so small.
My friend bought the 1/12th zaku from an auction during a family visit in Japan, I built it for him and it’s super super simple, it’s like easier to build than your high grade since basically everything is already assembled but you just need to connect everything, the only thing you really need to build is the head and torso.
I just discovered this video and it’s quite helpful but after building 5 kits now I have to say the new 1/144 Entry grade kits are really good to start. About 1-2 hours build time, great fun for posing and a little cheaper than High grade plus on Amazon prime. So it felt worth the risk of literally £11 to see how I felt about the hobby and then I instantly was satisfied with the build albeit simple styling and bought one more entry grade and a few high grade to enjoy
I appreciate the video! I'm starting out with Gunpla next month after my birthday. Gonna get the MG Barbatos because, although it's not a typical Gundam design, it looks dope as hell and I want it! Simple as that.
My first build was a MG Marasai. I was 17 and don’t regret it. I didn’t do a great job like I could today but it was fun! I’m starting again with HG to hone my skills.
Just started this gunpla hobby..my first build is MG mobile ginn.had a few RGs and HGs unassemble..just bought 1/100 ibo yesterday and i realllly excited for challenge build it
I got into this about a week ago and I’ve built like 7, have one left and a couple on the way this is such a fun hobby! My mistake was noy knowing the grades 😂 I started with a real grade exia and a real grade zero endless waltz, those took me 6 hours each and I did em in one sitting but SOOOOO satisfying!!!
I recall my first gunpla was easily 30 years ago and was a Ganso SD NT1 Alex (#33). First non-SD I got was no-grade 1/144 Zeta, didn't transform and required a whole lot of painting. Was able to move up to a few HG kits from Wing and X and then to no-grade 1/100 and finally a MG Zeta. I had pretty much stopped when I migrated 15 years ago, and basically entrusted the built ones to a friend. Just brought with me an unbuilt MG F91 v1 that was gifted to me by a friend at work while I was in Japan. Lost contact with that friend and have been trying to find them since, and I still have the kit unbuilt in its box, and I decided to only build it once I've finally reconnected with them.
Just built my first MG a ver.ka rx-78-2 and now I'm hooked this was a very helpful guide, cause there's some i want in small scale that are just to be there and other i want to really display 👍
I like to recommend the HG rx 78 revive to new builders as it's solid, cheap and has decent articulation. You can start with whatever but I think one or 2 cheap and solid HG's are nice to get a feel of cutting and cleaning up parts. I'd rather screw up a kit I payed 10-20 bucks on rather than 60-80.
First kit was a 1/144 Zeta (not HG i think). Built 26 years ago (1995). In hindsight the Zeta was the worst choice for a 7 yr old kid building the first gunpla. Broke it because I thought could transform like a Transformers. Only part left of it today was its right hand that I kept in a display case with a metal plaque inscribed "The Origin of The Addiction"
I got into Gunpla recently, only two years ago, and my first kit was the GM Cold Districts Type, and i love the that old kit. Not the most articulate, not the most detailed, but boy is it special to me
my first kit was hguc rx-78-2 orgins last year i think ive built 9 since then very relaxing hobby, i need to build a better shelf display for my growing collection
My first Gunpla was the old 2004 HG GM Command Space Type. I'll admit that the kit wasn't the best place to start, but it did get me to try out panel lining and painting eventually. My collection has grown quite significantly since then, but I still have entirely built grunt GM (GM Striker, GM/GM, GM Type C, Powered GM, GM Sniper II, GM Ground Type, GM Command, GM Command Space Type, GM Guard Custom, GM Custom), and grunt-adjacent (Stark Jegan, Loto, and Jesta) kits. For my first actual Gundam, I'm eyeing the MG Full Armor Gundam Ver. Ka.
I started with an HG Zaku ii, after getting tired of badly painting WH40K minis. I really liked it, so now I've got well over 15 kits built, and I've been putting together other PlaMo since then. Now I'm painting the fingertips on a Tsugumori, and I'm going to paint the swords on a Mobile Movementress kit...
I've only purchased 3 Gunpla kits so far: the HG RX-78-2, HG Red Comet, and the MG Barbatos. All very fun kits, especially for a LEGO builder like myself.
Ever since I watched gundam series, those NG's (Non-grades) are my opening door on building gunplas The first NG ive ever assembled is a Genoace from AGE series in which i get from a gunpla caravan in our country. Till this day, my Genoace still on my shelf of my HG collections, but ive painted in in dank colors. My first HG kit ive built is none other than the IBO line barbatos in 6th form, currently im building my first MG gunpla, Mr. Grandaddy RX-7 😊❤️
As for me I started with SD's since they are the cheapest and provided the basics for those who are afraid to mess up their kits or those who are not confident with small parts. This is where I also worked my way up with HG's and even started customizing hahahaha ')
Just started my journey on gunpla’s. I’ve always enjoyed doing lego and bionicle as a kid but something about it as a I grew just didn’t connect with me. It felt a bit simple after awhile. So this? Gunpla’s just sound like they fit for me. I just bought a tool set and a master grade Deathcythe hell ver. I’m gonna love this new hobby
I'm apparently starting with an Entry Grade RX-78-02, an HG XXXG-01D and an MG XXXG-01D2. The latter two because Deathscythe is my favorite, and the first because that's what my mom decided to get me as a random gift. I'll probably get an GH or MG of the RX-78-02 once I've built the first three, but I'll also have to get some Zaku Gunpla (at least one red and one green) for the sake of posting "pre-battle pose" pics once I've finished with those builds and any gunpla I get after that.
I bought a real grade gunpla from a con. It was the RX 78 2, the one in the video. The legs and spine are good but the arm are loose. The sticker wears off really easily. The weird thing is, I don't know much about these models/franchise, all I know is the RX is the first. I needs so do the sticker but I'm happy cause it still looks cool.
My first kit was RG qant. And from my experience with that. I say that RG is the line you start with. It's small, cheap and shows you exactly what you're in for when pursuing this hobby. All the good and the bad.
I just got the Entry Grade RX-78-02 just to try gunpla out cause it was real cheap at my local Big W and now I'm kinda hooked and tempted to go deeper lol...
My first was Exia Iginiton I thought I did something wrong. But learned it had weak joints and flimsy parts but that didn't stop me . Got 20more MGs built and panel lined
I would like to add that your initial model will also be probably be decided by your tolerance for part count and part sizes. If a high part count might seem to much for you but part size is not, then you go for HG instead of RG to test the waters. MG's offer a good balance of part count and size. My friend lets his kid daughter build MG's specifically for this reason (bigger parts are easier to handle for tiny hands). I probably won't recommend the PG for a first build simply because the kit itself would be a little prohibitively expensive and if you didn't like the experience, it might sour the whole hobby for you.
Noob builder here! Just got into the hobby around 4-6 weeks ago. My 2 cents is just build what you like. My first build was HG Banshee 02 which I absolutely enjoyed. From there I built the RG banshee with absolutely no problems. Last week I even finished a verka, EW zero. The advice of buying “newer” kits is definitely true, I’m presuming.
Fun fact: Yoshiyuki Tomino said that the word ‘Gundam’ means “a unit wielding a gun powerful enough to hold back enemies like a hydroelectric dam holding back water”
gun and dam, funny
Oh on god?

I have built gunpla for about 6 to 7 years already, and I appreciate you did such videos for the newbie into gunpla. ALSO, I am an absolute fan of your gunpla videos, those reviews helped me a lot. Thanks Mecha.
You don't even really need a "good" nipper. I started out building Gunpla, my first 10 or so kits, using nail-clippers! XD
Lmao me too!
Ha! Same!
TEN?!
On my second ever kit I was like "this isn't going to work long term" and bought a God Hand lookalike from AliExpress
The first kit I've built was GM sniper II and I cut out the parts out of the runners with a small sharpened kitchen knife ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I prefer the variety of HGs so that's what I go with most of the time, and if I really like the design enough I'll cough up the money for a RG or MG.
The most important tip imo:
*Pay close attention to the instructions*
Dont be like me and start twisting rg tallgeese's arm around wondering "why wont it move" until something snapped.
Rip man
@@Kuwagattai funnily enough, it doesnt fall off or anything (for now). like its almost better cause it stays there and i can actually rotate it XD.
yeah, my story about not paying close enough attention is I actually missed Q-15 I think on the pg unicorn for both shoulder joints and was confused as hell as why the arms came off so easily and why the two Q runners had a leftover piece. I had to disassemble the torso to fix that mistake, luckily it was not a break (though that did eventually happen, the clip on the psychoframe in the right leg broke and I had to use a solvent glue to stick it back on)
just adding a reply so this comment gets more attention
Also make sure that plastic nub you snipped off was actually a nub, and not the anchoring point for the RG Exia's GN cables.
How I chose my first gunpla:
Went to store.
Saw a MG Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai. Thought the giant sword was cool. Couldn't afford it.
Go back to store 6 months later
Saw MG Gundam Astray Blue Frame D. Realized TWO gundams had giant swords. Couldn't afford it.
Go back to store 2 years later.
See MG Astray Red Frame Kai and MG Gundam Astray Blue Frame D. Could afford them.
BOUGHT EM BOTH
Man, your story is touching. My first gunpla is literally 1/144 Gundam Astaroth.
@@gaeli6697 lmao mine was barbatos and schwalbe graze
Now I have a love hate relationship with my PG Red Frame Kai. I think that sword is big enough to fully kill me if I'm not careful.
Astaroth Rinascimento is my first GunPla since 2019.. with this, I decide to build HG IBO lines until I complete their MS...
Been building gunplas for 26 years. Hearing old and new builders stories on their first kit or experience in gunpla always makes me smile and feeling warm inside.
Worrying trend in gunpla building community are the increase of toxicity and elitism from both old and new builders.
Personally, the most important is to have fun, as the Reggie "ex-Nintendoman" once said:
"If it's not fun, why bother?"
Same
My favourite HG might be the RX-78-2 origin and the red comet Zaku.
Some additional tips, just in case : -
Who knows.
Did you buy the 1/144 Tristan? Lol
Tristan is sus?
@@xsinx6577 Tristan just needs tender loving care. that being said painting that kit and filling the seem lines was a pain.
This guy bought a Tristan
this man clearly owns a tristan
I just bought and currently building my first ever gunpla which is the PG Unicorn Banshee Norn so far so good I thought I was biting too much for a first kit but it’s actually really fun and straight forward despite everyone telling me to start with a HG first
I think that's your best video script so far, Mecha! Lots of good information, no BS (as advertised).
Very nicely done.
Finally picked up my first gunpla, i bought last year November and it finally arrived, its the no grade 1/144 scale g gundam g-08 from 1994 and im really looking forward to building it
Well i will use this as a guide and reference to an essay i will be writing about my hobbies and an introduction to them.
1/1200: plays sad music in a dark corner
1/550: "Should we find corners too?"
1/400: "Not sure..."
Dude, I'm over 40 and still build these when I can lol. Go for it!!!
Therapy but cheaper in my eyes
What do you mean with MG style inner frame?
I really recommend the newer Read Grade, they are very good, a little bit of effort is needed because the parts are small, but they are excellent
Oh and the eg nippers
You don't even need a nipper.
It’s rare if you see it on the shelves in your store since they only stock 2 at a time
I used nail clippers in the beginning lol
@@Rebellion3112 That's where I bought my MG Barbatos that is still in my backlogs LOL!
First ever kit was the SD Barbie Lupus Rex. Started small and worked my way up to PG. Still looks good after a year later!
I really recommend the real grade series,
you get a high quality build with a decent price
It's good, but may give a new builder or straight builders a bad experience on the RG line kits. Some RG's are janky and need some mods/repair for the kit to be stable.
@@First-Name_Last-Name like what mods?
@@koweedate Mods/Modification like third party parts such as metal joints replacement for some of the kit frames (I bought one for my RG 00 Qan[T], which fully replaced the B1 and B2 part) or DIY Mod like the Sinanju Pla-plate reinforcement for the waist.
@@First-Name_Last-Name Add unicorn G35, the arm section too
I started with gunpla recently after watching your videos!
RG Char's Z'gok
Saw it at my local game store and impulse bought it because it's my favorite mobile suit from the original series.
Went back this week and got the RX-78-2 to go with it (I saw a lot of people saying that's it's a pretty bad kit, but wanted it anyway)
I seriously can't believe how fun it is to build these. Not ready for painting yet, but I do plan on doing it eventually
My very first Gunpla was the HG Gundam Revive. I found it a little challenging and even frustrating, but damn was it rewarding.
Man, I love listening to your voice. I don't know why, but it is making my day complete.
I started gunpla when the pandemic hit. My first kit was the rg sinanju. Let that set in for a second XD
Your experience can be best described as:
Has no sexual experience, but decided to engage in S&M and CBT first, to the max.
It's scary, It hurts, but it feels so good.
Ouff! I considered getting the RG Sinanju, but was convinced not to get it by other local gunpla enthusiasts.
Strangely, as an experienced gunpla builder, I still avoid that RG Sinanju. Hat off
@@gearofwar113 I've just finished making the pla-plate + modelling epoxy mod on the damn waist.
That goddamned waist.
@@First-Name_Last-Name fuck the waist XD
mine are HG, mainly because of the limited space i have in my room and living room. with the exception of Wing series that all are MG.. coz wing series got special place in my heart and introduced me to the gundam series.
My first kit was the HG Zephyranthes, because for some reason I thought it was the RX-78-2.
Also it sucks stay away from that kit
good to know but me starting out with HG Aerial just because I love gwitch so much, now I'm planning to complete the WFM line up
You forgot 1/1 scale on japan itself 😁
While I was researching which Gunpla would be my first, I came across this video. I was mostly thinking about the grade of the kit I would get so I settled for HG. Now I'm 4 kits deep, with plans of buying a MG in a few weeks
Meanwhile here I am collecting hongli gunpla because I'm broke lol
I always thought this was too much work but the other day my friend came back with one from Japan cause he thought I built them (he just knew I liked gundam and I have prebuilt ones on my shelf) and I didn’t wanna let it go to waste so I simply just tried and it was so relaxing I built my first high grade in about an hour and 45 minutes and now I’m so excited to build more
*laughs in having built MG's in a single evening*
I’m 40+ Gunpla in the hobby (with plenty more preordered) and I still watched this video.
0:52*Star-Spangled Banner Plays* (this is like, my only understanding of America)
Starting to get into this. Just ordered a HG RX-GP01 and I'm excited to put it together when it arrives.
"Any age for builders" So can my 1 year old build a high grade? (This is a joke please don't take it serious.)
my 1 day old brother can build a pg in 5 minutse
minutes*
I put together a HG Zeta Gundam and I loved it. Not gonna go crazy but definitely gonna build several. Can't wait for my Methuss and Asshimar to come in and definitely looking forward to putting together that RG Sazabi.
I quite enjoyed putting together the Entry Grade RX-78-2, quite simple, good size and a great price
Just started this gunpla hobby..my first build is MG mobile ginn.had a few RGs and HGs unassemble..just bought 1/100 ibo yesterday and i realllly excited for challenge build it
Recently finished my mg barbatos. Had fun building it. Now im hooked on gunpla and considering getting heavy arms
Built a 1/48 Rx-78-2. VERY limited articulation but a LOT of fun to build and it gets a lot of attention on my shelf.
I started out building gunpla immediately after watching the end of IBO. Went to target the same day to get Barbatos 4th form and Lupus Rex
I got into Gunpla recently, only two years ago, and my first kit was the GM Cold Districts Type, and i love the that old kit. Not the most articulate, not the most detailed, but boy is it special to me
Great vid! I've been wanting to get a Shining Gundam HG but I've had bad experiences with early No-Grade Gundam Wing Gunplas so I've been hesitant.
I’ve been building gunpla for years but this still makes for a great watch!
Haha nice, now deeper into the gunfam fandom, I’m glad you made this for the more people joining the community
my first kit was hguc rx-78-2 orgins last year i think ive built 9 since then very relaxing hobby, i need to build a better shelf display for my growing collection
Ka.
Nice.
My first was the Hi-Resolution Gundam astray red frame powered red
I started with an HG Zaku ii, after getting tired of badly painting WH40K minis. I really liked it, so now I've got well over 15 kits built, and I've been putting together other PlaMo since then. Now I'm painting the fingertips on a Tsugumori, and I'm going to paint the swords on a Mobile Movementress kit...
Thanks for your help just got into Gundams and Gunpla's, So thanks for all your help I just subscribed!
My first kit is an RG Wing Gundam, I haven't started it yet but I'm really looking forward to getting into the build.
I've done 4 other kits so far, amazingly easy and fun hobby.
After finding so much Gundam stuff on here, now I know why my son loved these so much, he's forever a fan of the RX-78-2.
Thank you on this video as I just built my first one and I’m hooked
I've only purchased 3 Gunpla kits so far: the HG RX-78-2, HG Red Comet, and the MG Barbatos. All very fun kits, especially for a LEGO builder like myself.
I actually bought this September my first Gunpla and it was HG Dagger L from Seed Destiny.
Ever since I watched gundam series, those NG's (Non-grades) are my opening door on building gunplas
The first NG ive ever assembled is a Genoace from AGE series in which i get from a gunpla caravan in our country.
My interest in Gunplas started with the G Frame series and now I'm finally getting comfortable enough to start my first HG build
I think we need more of this videos!
