Yeah, the irony. Let's wait the Chinese bootleg companies release bootleg gundam kits based from P-Bandai MG Releases, and hoping the quality is better than Bandai because they already improve it for years.
Personally I'm optimistic things will hopefully pick back up again once the new Gunpla factory starts up. I know everyone's been mindlessly doomsaying for the past year or two, but keep in mind COVID and massive shortages have been making production difficult. We can also see this with the SDCS line disappearing completely for several years until the SDCS Banshee, which had runners dating back the year prior indicating it was delayed. The reason we got a bunch of EX-Standard SDs during that interim is because those come out of their factory in China, which isn't as strained as the currently lone factory in Japan putting out almost all other releases. Reportedly MG Vidar was delayed as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a handful of designs Bandai's waiting to put out once they're able to.
And it’s only the vidar.. like that’s it. No other IBO kits. No 2.0s.. I don’t collect master grade but holy moly can yall at least do REGULAR releases instead of waiting for 1 mg kit after like.. I wanna say 2 years?
might pick back up in bit since im pretty sure, for example vidar was supposed so come out after barbatos but you know 2020, alot of stuff got screwed up then, and other stuff is still recovering from it so thats likely the reason for the lack of releases with bandai
@@0NiKiSUxNuLL838and building off of that, I’m sure they plan on doing mgs of all the popular gundam frames from IBO, and since vidar was the next release that got delayed due to covid, hopefully that puts them back on track to releasing the others, as well as the other 00 mgs and whatever else they plan to release. I’m holding out for a kampfer 2.0 somewhere down the line since the old one is supremely outdated by now.
Fact of the matter is MGs just don't sell. Their engineering cost too much to justify the low sales. RGs and PGs reins over MGs because the former can stand with fellow 1/144 kits while the later is big enough to justify the cost of buying. Bandai keep trying to make alternative 1/100 models for this reason alone. And even if they fail they won't cost them as much as new MG kits. Meanwhile, P-Bandai allows them to jack up the price, which brings profit to a dying market via FOMO tactics. No more MG regulars for you.
I want to keep it short but it’s awesome seeing gunpla become so popular in other parts of the world and mecha I think you have a big place in that. Yes the mgex strike freedom can make anyone a fan. The most beautiful kit I’ve ever built. I actually hated putting the armor on, cause it covered up that beautiful golden inner frame. Still thinking about buying a second one, so I can display it both ways lol.
my first MG was the freedom 2.0. I felt like I made a mistake buying it because it was my 2nd kit lol. But after building it I fell in love with MGs. I need to get another freedom kit so I can panel line it and put on the decals!
Of course I like the bigger size of MG kits. But one thing I unexpectedly really love about them is the inner frames. I just like having a whole other layer to build, finish and paint under the armor plates. Even if I don't pose any kits without armorm I just really enjoy the process of working on its inner frame.

my personal affection has gone to Endless Waltz mastergrades, however i started my entry into the hobby with 1/144 scale, a sinanju red comet RG. i found over time that 144 scale is just not easy for me to work with at all, i broke the head V of my wing zero RG just by cutting it from the runner, it folded over when i went to remove it after cutting. I have only gotten two master grades thus far, Tallgeese and Deathscythe, but i absolutely love them. My plan is to get Shenlong, Sandrock, Wing Zero (the non-angelwinged version), Heavyarms and Epyon in the same scale over time, along with deathscythe hell because i have ALWAYS loved that EW design. Not sure what i plan to do after i complete my main Wing/EW cast, but i know im gonna have a blast
I first got into Gunpla starting in 2001 from Gundam Wing!!! I still have every one of the kits I built back then. I don't know what grade they were, but I have 1/144 scales of Wing Gundam, Deathscythe, Heavyarms, Sandrock, Shenlong, Altron, Tallgeese, Wing Zero TV ver, and Epyon. Then I have 1/100 scales of Deathscythe Hell, Deathscythe Hell EW Custom, Heavyarms EW Custom, Sandrock EW Custom, Nataku EW, Serpent EW, Wing Zero EW Custom, and Tallgeese III EW... I moved away from Gunpla for nearly 20 years after that. But then my nephew showed me how popular it had become. So my first foray back into Gunpla was a Master Grade Epyon!!! Then I tried my first Real Grade with Endless Waltz Wing Zero... ended up snapping the left arm inner frame between the shoulder and elbow. Luckily I was able to fix it with epoxy and didn't loose any articulation. As of today I have about 40 kits waiting in my backlog!!!
I was 8 to start with my first gundam of HG and now I have experienced with MG, PG, and RG. I have Perfect G. of RX-78 Titan but pretty big and it is good for serious detailer. I believe it is great for homemade filmmaker. I have Real G. of Zeta and the parts kept falling apart even through I kept assembled back and kept falling. I have Master G. of Shin Musha (Samurai version with display base) and MGEX of Unicron (transformable with 2 color modes and standing base). Now I'm 42 already retiring with Gundam's and switching back to Tamiya!! 😛
If I know someone is going to only ever build one kit I always say MG........but if you are going to build an army HG, especially for grunt suits. MG barely bothers with grunt suits anymore.
@@gohom3882 I have gotten a few older MG kits and HG is equal to older MG kits in every way but gimmicks. That being said MG Zeta Ver Ka is the best Gundam kit ever made, and the one I recommend to single kit builders. If you are going to build one kit, that is the kit to build.
I enjoy MGs very much. Always appreciated the details and inner-frame. My personal wishlist would be an MG GM III Unicorn ver. and MG Gaplant Tr-5( most definitely would be p-bandai like the rest of the Hazels).
Master Grade were the only kits I built once I returned to the hobby about a decade ago. Since 2020 or so I have been trying to army build and have an extensive collection of OYW kits to make battle dioramas/displays. One day I will return to MGs, and am eager to see what the future holds.
Seriously with every model I acquire, I cut out the box top and collect it. I've got at least a drawer stacked full of the model "covers." It is a practice I began just a few years ago when my Gundam model compulsion really took off. Now I find myself building models from series I've never even heard of simply because they look interesting. Addictions cam manifest in many different forms. It's wild, but this is one of the healthier variety of neuroticisms I grapple with
I completely agree with this list. MG is by far my favorite. I mainly build MG and the occasional PG. Ver Ka is also my favorite type of MG. I have quite a few, but my favorite build so far is the Sazabi ver Ka special coating limited edition. It took me about 80 hours to build and finishing that build was so satisfying. Not recommended for beginners.
I'm definitely in the "won't throw out the MG box" camp- Not just because of the amazing cover art, but since the boxes are good for storing non-displayed accessories/extra parts and almost always can fit the built kit inside if you need to transport it somewhere. It's a waste of both cardboard and convenience to get rid of them, really!
when i'm done with a master grade i tend to mangle the top of the box to only have the front left and use some sticky poster tape to stick it on the wall. plastic model kit and a free awsome poster :P if they could just offer a high resolution scan of all the box art's for use as wallpapers that would be fantastic :P and the only "problem" with master grades shows up when you would like a plastic box to keep the dust off them....then your options start to dry up as car / plane models are much more popular and not nearly as high as a gundam standing up (especially looking at the sazabi ver.ka and the full amor unicorn gundam...and the strike freedom...and with it's wings deployed the wing zero custom also takes up a lot of volume....i got a lotta big boys :P) but after all these years still no MG/MGEX/full mechanics or what is the 3rd option 1/100 kshatriya, cmon bandai your killing me here :P though if that were to come out i might need to hang it from the ceiling or something....
You're absolutely correct MechaG, I have two PG (Unleashed and Perfect Strike) and yet due to space constraint I still enjoy my MG's and are still looking to expand my collection. I have 2 RG, Nu and Hi Nu, highly detailed but tiny, bough the two HG from Hathaway, Penelope and Xi but they lack details.
I just got back from Tokyo after visiting for 2 weeks and it was beyond a struggle to find any MGs. I ended up just getting non gunpla kits since they had a shit ton of other mecha and Kotobukiya stuff
I built my first Gundam earlier this year with my gf at a convention, fell in love, built probably too many kits. My first and only MG was an rx-78 ver ka from 2002, and I was pretty disappointed. (Like. Its bazooka was the wrong color and it couldn't even hold it.) But you've convinced me to give it another go, and a more recent one this time. I've really been enjoying IBO. Maybe I'll build barbatos. Unless gusion rebake has an mg
From 2005 is where 2.0s began and that’s when it probably gets good, but to be safe something from after 2010 should be good, though there are exceptions I think
This used to be my favorite grade. But with seldom telease, decreased of display shelf, i turn to hg and rg. With hg, the time needed to make one is relatively low and the option for custom is more plenty
Hoping to see a video about the Monument Repair type (Tallgeese) I have it preordered and would love to see what you think about it. So far it has good reviews hope to see you get one and test it out.
Master Grade is definitely my favorite, partially due to my stupid big hands. While I wish Bandai would make more MG kits, I've really been enjoying building non-Bandai 1/100 kits like the SNAA Blade King and Thunderbolt. Many of the US online shops are starting to carry more of the kits too. Also, I recognize those runners during the Ad read. I really like the kit, even if the color isn't my favorite.
Will you do a non scale 1/100 Saviour Gundam review? I know was an old kit but still it one of the coolest kit exist today. Would love to see some review like you did here with Saviour.
I'm not a huge Gundam fan, but my favorite Mobile Suit is the Gouf Custom and I'm still hoping for a Master Grade 2.0 Gouf Custom. I built the High Grade.
Master grades are perfect. Just the right size to be observed and appreciated from the right distance on the shelf. High grade should be renamed desk grade because they're the perfect sized desk ornaments.
just bought the MG god gundam from like 2024, other than some annoyances that you still have self tappers and no skeleton, it's still a good model kit.
So, I built Gunpla a long time ago, 20ish years ago, between 2000-03. Then I got into Transformers. 1/144 is about a Deluxe class Transformer figure, the MG 1/100 is roughly the size of a Voyager class Transformer. I've recently built a few kits, and the MG Epyon took slightly less time than the RG Freedom. Master Grade, if found on a decent sale like at Hobby Lobby is worth it imo, as I've paid way more for a Transformer for less of an experience. If that makes sense.
It really depends on what you get out of Gunpla. For me, I find the kitbashing and customizing aspect of the hobby more fulfilling than simply building, detailing, and displaying, so I prefer High Grades. They're more modular, and cheaper, so you can buy more to give your creations more unique parts. I definitely agree that if you're buying Gunpla to detail and display, Master Grade is where it's at, but Gunpla fans can always use a healthy reminder that people approach the hobby for different reasons.
The first couple points definitely the reason why most of my collection are mgs especially ver.kas .. that n when i have company over the first thing they see is the wing zero ver.ka n the usual response is "that ones cool!".. 😅
In your opinions, which type is the best looking gundam just for appearance of robot itself just standing there ,without any importance of articulations /posability and accessories /inner builds etc .? Including the metal builds or any other statues that may exist not just limited to kits . I’m trying to start gundam collection to just display and draw them just straight forward standing and only care for their appearance in such straight forward standing pose
That's exactly what I DON'T need because then I'll have to partially destroy it for the last stand aesthetic, then buy ANOTHER so I can display it proper
I'm still sort of new to owning Gundam, having only built the EG Build Strike Exceed Galaxy and the HG Banshee Norn Prototype Mobile Suit. I sort of like the size and price point of the HG class, but after watching this video I sort of want to try a MG class Gundam now. Any recommendations to which MG should be my first?
I still haven't gotten a MG kit yet, I've been overly happy with my beautiful RGs. But I think I'm gonna go out of the box (lol) and start with a MG Ball. I'm still waiting for a RG Nobell tho. C'mon Bandai, they would sell like hotcakes!
There is a plethora of mobile suits that I would love to see in master grade. Looking at you Vayeate, Mercurius, Taruas, Amazing Kampher, Gold frame Amatsu Mina. Deathsythe TV version. I could go on. 16:09
This is only my opinion, I would recommend MG. RGs tend to have really small and delicate parts. If you have big fingers, RGs will really give you a hard time. And as an example the RG Crossbone (its the smallest RG if I remember correctly). The size of that particular RG is almost just above the waist of a MG Wing series kits. And MG Wing kits are relatively smaller compared to other MG series. But the thing that trumps RGs over MGs are the size. If you are running low on shelf space, RGs are a good pick.
Personally, I'll go RG any day. If all MGs had the inner frame I'd do them more, but it seems like all the kits I'd want are mostly 1.0s. RG is just always a fantastic experience, even the models that aren't as interesting to me.
Their use of the term "gimmick" definitely more aligns with "feature" or "look at our engineering master at making this mechanism that should be there in the real thing actually work."
I love MG! Personally was always disappointed with HG with their small scale and lack of detail, but MG always satisfied me. I like that MG feels more complete and the right scale for a figure
Bandai needs to go back to regularly release MGs. Now any releases they do is mostly rehashs of older kits on Pbandai. A recommendation to you is check out the Solomon GP02 1/100 Kit. This one can be considered as a MGEX kit in it's complexity and gimmicks.
MG is the best... They're good in size, in which I won't have any trouble with the parts (1/144 parts are small and easily gets lost when assembling or taking a part when you start painting)... It has the inner frame and the cockpit to go along with it... Good articulation in moving the joints for standing or action poses...
I've been using features instead of gimmicks when explaining to my coworks when they stop by my square (it's not a cubicle, there are not wall only half dividers that are about a foot taller than my desk.)
MGs look amazing but kit selection just pales in comparison to HGs. It's the main reason I quit collecting them. I also prefer how most HGs could be completed in a couple hours.

Master Grade were the only kits I built once I returned to the hobby about a decade ago. Since 2020 or so I have been trying to army build and have an extensive collection of OYW kits to make battle dioramas/displays. One day I will return to MGs, and am eager to see what the future holds.
I wish we had more new MG kits, so excited for Vidar but it took so long
I completely agree, Bandai on the other hand...
It's a waste of both cardboard and convenience to get rid of them, really!
when i'm done with a master grade i tend to mangle the top of the box to only have the front left and use some sticky poster tape to stick it on the wall.
plastic model kit and a free awsome poster :P
if they could just offer a high resolution scan of all the box art's for use as wallpapers that would be fantastic :P
and the only "problem" with master grades shows up when you would like a plastic box to keep the dust off them....then your options start to dry up as car / plane models are much more popular and not nearly as high as a gundam standing up (especially looking at the sazabi ver.ka and the full amor unicorn gundam...and the strike freedom...and with it's wings deployed the wing zero custom also takes up a lot of volume....i got a lotta big boys :P)
but after all these years still no MG/MGEX/full mechanics or what is the 3rd option 1/100 kshatriya, cmon bandai your killing me here :P though if that were to come out i might need to hang it from the ceiling or something....
Let's petition for more MG releases particularly GTO lines.
Stardust and War in the pocket
We need more modern MG's
I just got back from Tokyo after visiting for 2 weeks and it was beyond a struggle to find any MGs. I ended up just getting non gunpla kits since they had a shit ton of other mecha and Kotobukiya stuff
I built my first Gundam earlier this year with my gf at a convention, fell in love, built probably too many kits.
My first and only MG was an rx-78 ver ka from 2002, and I was pretty disappointed. (Like. Its bazooka was the wrong color and it couldn't even hold it.)
But you've convinced me to give it another go, and a more recent one this time.
I've really been enjoying IBO. Maybe I'll build barbatos. Unless gusion rebake has an mg
From 2005 is where 2.0s began and that’s when it probably gets good, but to be safe something from after 2010 should be good, though there are exceptions I think
I love the bigger parts to master grade as due to an injury to my hand makes the smaller pieces of HG or RG harder for me to work with.
My small room with no space for more shelves disagrees with you
Uhh skill issue.
Joking
Nice video & informative. But for no. 6 it seems you are wrong. MG has had inner frames since 90's (MG Char's Gelgoog 1.0). Sorry, I just corrected
@@exiagn0012 is it a true, full inner frame? Also, if it has, it was an exception not the rule.
I'm not a huge Gundam fan, but my favorite Mobile Suit is the Gouf Custom and I'm still hoping for a Master Grade 2.0 Gouf Custom. I built the High Grade.
Which 10 are your top mg? I was thinking of buying the rx-78-2 3.0 as my first mg
Loving the MG Gundam detail, best choice indeed! 🚀👍
Thank you putting this out Mecha. Let’s pray Bandai sees this.
I just started the hobby and i’ll stick with the HGs for now but i’m trying out MGs too
In your opinions, which type is the best looking gundam just for appearance of robot itself just standing there ,without any importance of articulations /posability and accessories /inner builds etc .? Including the metal builds or any other statues that may exist not just limited to kits . I’m trying to start gundam collection to just display and draw them just straight forward standing and only care for their appearance in such straight forward standing pose
Hello Mr Gundam guy,
Great video! Please review sky defender, it would be cool to see what you say about it
a Master Grade Geara Zulu Guards Type will be great...
Imagine a MG Barbatos Lupus Rex with the glowing red eyes and the outline
I will buy it for sure if it DID EXIST.
That's exactly what I DON'T need because then I'll have to partially destroy it for the last stand aesthetic, then buy ANOTHER so I can display it proper
I remember kits that I use to build back then. We dont even call it kit and they needed glue.
Man, Im old
I'm still sort of new to owning Gundam, having only built the EG Build Strike Exceed Galaxy and the HG Banshee Norn Prototype Mobile Suit. I sort of like the size and price point of the HG class, but after watching this video I sort of want to try a MG class Gundam now. Any recommendations to which MG should be my first?
Omg yes! Master Grades are my go to as well!
Master Grade Ver.Ka would like to have a chat about this
Mr. Fix it yourself
Clearly you’ve never touched the post Thunderbolt Ver.Kas
@73juro I built Wing Zero and it has those problems too.
@@GojiraFan-in9oo what problems? I built one too and it has no problems outside of having seamlines on the buster rifles
Hello bro do u have any recommendations kits that has same feature as MG with cockpit and pilot gimmicks?
I feel old when my mind was blown away with the original High Grades with the System Injection technology....
@2:32 I have seen plenty of MG's with absolutely microscopic parts especially the older kits.
Ok i just bought a couple of RG and yes i like the RG Sazabi over the MG. Theyre on their way, dont make me regret it
Looking forward to the HG video.
hello sir are you going to review the sky defender as well?
08th MS Team MG 2.0 when?!
This!
Not to mention an RG Ground and EZ-8 Gundam for crying out loud, it would totally fit the Real Grade factor the most!
@@IAmInfinitus208 would also sell like hot cakes. Shit do a rg for the other stardust memories suits too.
The real question for me as an entry-level hobbyist (assembled 10 HG already) would you recommend RG or MG to jump into next?
This is only my opinion, I would recommend MG. RGs tend to have really small and delicate parts. If you have big fingers, RGs will really give you a hard time.
And as an example the RG Crossbone (its the smallest RG if I remember correctly). The size of that particular RG is almost just above the waist of a MG Wing series kits. And MG Wing kits are relatively smaller compared to other MG series.
But the thing that trumps RGs over MGs are the size. If you are running low on shelf space, RGs are a good pick.
You switched from rg to mg real quick 😂 that vidar working wonders already
Personally, I'll go RG any day. If all MGs had the inner frame I'd do them more, but it seems like all the kits I'd want are mostly 1.0s. RG is just always a fantastic experience, even the models that aren't as interesting to me.
What is this Black and White Barbatos he is using in this video ? Is this Ecopla ?
MG FOREVER! I’m building ny mg Fazz ver ka at the moment
Their use of the term "gimmick" definitely more aligns with "feature" or "look at our engineering master at making this mechanism that should be there in the real thing actually work."
MG Hi-Nu Gundam or MG Nu Gundam? Which should I do first? I love them both but haven’t been able to decide which to do first
I'm hoping for more MGEX because dang I ain't finding any MGEX Unicorn in my country (I hope to get MGEX Strike Freedom next year~)
They should make more 2.0 of the older models, like Exia for a starter 🥲🥲🥲
Man I love this channel I've already built two hg decided I'd try an RG accidentally got the original rx-78-2 from 2010 pain lol I'm so confused
What mg barbetos was that black and white one
You should review the 1/100 glory eternal star
I would tend to agree, but, with how collectable to HG/RG are, I can't take myself away from them. lol
My strike noir from the mid 2000's still holds up almost 18 years later.
Those older MG Seed kits are tanks!
Except for the Lukas strike… Bandai made that backpack from glass 🥲
I agree with you on that one. That thing was a glass cannon.
WHY DID METAL GEAR POP INTO MY HEAD READING THE TITLE? XD
MGs look amazing but kit selection just pales in comparison to HGs. It's the main reason I quit collecting them. I also prefer how most HGs could be completed in a couple hours.
THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS THERE ISN'T ANY NEW MASTER GRADES COMING OUT REGULARLY ANYMORE.
I agree that MG is a best to collect if you want better details. For me, when I buy them only my favorite mobile suit are needed on my collection
