Which size lower platten did you find works best with the Richardson/structured hats?
Medium
Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
Mine arrived today! Looking forward to this!
Awesome. Just did 20 hats today with it.
I have been watching several videos on this topic and yours is really good, thankyou!!
Good I am glade to hear 😃
Looking forward to another smartstitch video because mines on the way! Great content as always Matt
Congrats
Thanks matt love ur videos, good to see your doing well.. keep grinding
Thanks
Thanks again for another informative video!
You bet 😃
Hi there,
What patches do you recommend for somebody just starting out who doesn't have a business?
Thank you!
P.S. Love your videos!
Thank you Matt for the video. I’m going to check it out. I’ve been hit or miss on some so far.
😃
Hey. Thanks for the video. You mentioned a heat pad silicone and I didn't see the link for it.
It’s in the description also. amzn.to/48SGn3X
Great video. Thanks.
Question-are you planning to do a video with your recommendations of who to use for your embroidery digitizers?
Yes when I find a couple good ones I will.
Say brody can you do a small but detailed video of you pressing up a hat with patch you know like setting up the press from start to finish yeah I know that sounds boring but some of us need to see it done that way and or just go live and save the video so that we can rewind it as much as we would like to thanks and dope video I’m thinking of purchasing the press and so far you and another fella has this press and y’all got the best reviews side note I will be asking him to do the same as far as a detailed video 😂 oh 1 more thing you just gained a new subscriber 💪🏾💯
I can do that. I have a big order to do soon
@@laserengravingwithmatt7833 man that’s dope congrats as well I got my notifications on so I’ll be on lookout
I had a Vevor, got it to replace the X in 1 that I had. While it was a good press, I'll stick with my $1600 Hotronix. Glad ya got to hear from me again!
Right, just get a 360 Hotronix. The formulas are already worked out.
$160.00 VS. $1800.00 that’s a big difference
We love you and wish you all the "luck and good" in the world
Great Video....I know you can't adjust the pressure but can you not add some extra foam to help add pressure a little?
Good question. I have never tried it.
Thank you Matt for making this video! Do you have a link for the blue stuff you use between the press and the hat?
amzn.to/48SGn3X sorry about that
That press looks nice! You should do a video on how to trademark an Etsy shop name, there's much confusing stuff online about that
I will look into that
Hey Matt, you said that the JDS leatherette patches don’t come off but have you had any luck making your own patches from leather and attaching at adhesive sheets? Thanks for the great videos!
No I have not. I only have been using JDS
I have the same hat press. I found out that the dial may say 300 degree's but when I used a infrared laser to check the temps, it was really around 270F. Since I've made the change and run my temp to 330 @ 30 seconds, my patches are staying on. I'm placing my patches across the front seam too. I buy my leather from HYDBOND.
Nice 😃
are you getting an outline of the center seam in your patch?
You have to take the orange top off and make sure that the plate is laying against the plate that you see. Sometimes they're separation between the actual heating plate inside underneath the cap. It should be right up against the other one so it's even heat. Otherwise you're going to get a cooler temperature. Very easy fix
@@jesserodriguez1904 I second this question. @pfiltz are you seeing the outline if the seam through the center of the patch?
Matt I have a Thunder just like yours. Do you have the original air supply pump on it or have you upgraded??? Thanks!
Yes I have the original
@@laserengravingwithmatt7833 Awesome because I always feel like I need to upgrade but you prove it all works!!! Thank you!!!!!
Just got mine today and having a hard time getting the balance of heat and time for this amazon patches, when it sticks it burns it. Then i tried a sheet of hybond brand stuff and my god the differece. Perfect the first time
Glad you figured it out.
Have you pressed the leather patches over the center stitching of the hat? If so have you had any issues with the leather taking shape of the stitching?
No I haven’t had that issue. Try using a Mr. clean eraser for cushion underneath it.
Thanx Matt! What size round and rectangular would you recommend fit best on those caps?
Medium
@@laserengravingwithmatt7833 - Thanx - I'm referring to a 3" x 2" rectangle vs the 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" - Keep up the great work!
It's been a while since I got to see you again. You have embroidery going too? Dang. You are enterprising :) I like that unit not being prohibitively expensive. What do you think of the 8 in 1 type presses if you want to do more than hats? I see Vevor has those too. Cheers from Winnipeg
I think it’s a good concept but would like to try it.
@@laserengravingwithmatt7833 I have been doing okay with my omtech. I've gained some skills and enjoyed a summer and holiday season of craft sales. But it occurred to me that I could easily add more to my offering. I've been looking at those combo sets for a while thinking of doing tshirts, cups, hats, etc. Been seeing lots of dtf patterns cut with the laser and even direct laser on cotton tshirts. So I dunno. I'll keep enjoying your success and keep learning. Do you ever do one-on-one voice or vid calls with people interested in knowing more?
Yes that’s good you want to keep growing with your company. Yes I do calls and video chat. It’s the patrion link in the description.
For the jds leatherette sheets. Did you try using E6000 glue on the DIY patch before pressing? Would be interesting to know if it's more durable with adding the glue 🤷♀️
I have only used the ones from jds that have an adhesive on them already.
@laserengravingwithmatt7833 I guess I should have added the sheets with the adhesive but also adding the glue as well.
Emma you shouldn’t need to add glue. I haven’t needed to yet with all the testing I have done.
Matt I received my silicone sheets to protect the hats and patch , which side faces the hat the shiny or the dull side , or does it matter .
It doesn’t matter
Hi Matt... What is a fold up hat? Do you have a link?
? Fold up hat?
To do beanies, I take a piece of cardboard and cut out the exact size of the patch and then it wont melt the rest.
Thanks I will give that a try.
Do you put the cardboard from inside that hat back in. It’s an odd question but I always wondered if a customer cared about that. Like maybe it gives a good or new impression when they unbox it.
Yes! That is a good question. Yes we do.
The link you left for the patch cover when you pressing the patch is only rated for up to 240 degrees ?
Thanks for telling me. I will take a look. Something must have changed because the one I got is 425. It says it o. The package.
Nope just looked and it says 446 F
You are correct ! Sorry , not sure what I was looking at. Can’t wait for my hat press to come in . I am starting with the Hydbond Leatherette material to cut custom patches on my laser . Enjoy your channel
How do you know which size pad to use they all seem to fit the hat, I cant tell
I use the medium size
There are 2 types of Vevor Hat presses. I'm curious why you choose the automated lever one instead of the manual lever one? From my research, I learned that the automated one doesn't have the ability to control the pressure. Have you found any issues with this hat press? Thanks Matt
I chose it because I can hit start and walk away and load the laser and when it’s done it’ll a lift by itself and I don’t have to sit there and babysit it
Ahhhh.. i see, I see.. that snidbit helps, many thx @@laserengravingwithmatt7833
What size are those patches you have been using? Cant decide what to go with
2x3
I just got mine and ran it same settings, looks great, but I do get a ",hard bend" above the patch, kind of where the pad ends, it looks like you get that as well a little. You said you use medium pad? Is that the one that came on it? @@laserengravingwithmatt7833
Have you been able to do PVC patches without the lower heated platen? I'm hearing you need a lower platen for PVC. I would like to avoid that!
I won’t run PVC
Which plate do you use? Small medium or large?
The one that is the same size as the top
Matt, question for you. I see all of the patches you are doing in this vid are off to the side of the seam running down the center of the hat. Is this to avoid a "seam lump" down the center of the patch? How would a hat look if you did put the patch dead center, using this press? Would the seam imprint through the patch? I ask because I am on the verge of buying this press, and in my new business so far, people seem to want the patch centered.
Everyone wants them on the side. I had one company do it in the center and you can tell a little bit but after they wore it you couldn’t see it.
@@laserengravingwithmatt7833 Thanks for the quick reply Matt.
I just got one and am having problems with the Richardson 112 hats. When I put the patch in the center of the hat I am getting creases on both the right and left sides of the patch in the hat. Thats running the heat at 300 for 30 sec. If I run the heat or time any lower the patch does not bond all the way around the patch. Then I have to heat it again and the creases become worse. I have tried a microfiber towel under the hat and still have the same problem. So far I am not impressed. Do you have any suggestions on solving the creases in the hats when you put the patches in the center of a Richardson 112 hat? I have no problems when I put the patch on either the right or left side of center or a hat that has no seam in the center. Thanks
I use the middle bottom pad and a silicone mat. Make sure you are not pushing it to far on it should be flush
@@laserengravingwithmatt7833 Thank you Matt. I folded a smaller microfiber towel four times and put it in between the hat and the pad just in the location where the patch is and have had much better resultes. That eliminated any space that is not filled between the hat and the pad.
Have you tried putting a patch on a straw hat with this heat press?
No I have not.
Matt check out sanmar for your hats and beanies
Thanks I will do that.
I guess I messed up. I got the patches from Amazon. at that temp they get black stripes. even the entire patch with some of them.
Oh no 😬
how do you like your smart stitch embroidery machine?
Love it. It has been by far the best investment yet.
How do you set the settings?
Turn the dial to the left seconds and turn it to the right for temperature
@@laserengravingwithmatt7833 thanks
So, you’re laying it flat with the inside sticking out right on the plate and have no creases???
Everyone else even I have been usinng towels, sponges, magic erases etc
Yeah it’s been working great
So 300 degrees for 30 seconds?
Yup
tell me about your laser
I have seven
Can engrave the pants ..Remember Levys
Be careful with this heat press. I’ve had mine for a while now, and it suddently overheats without the thermometer showing, and many of them have uneven heating along the top platen.
I tested with a heat thermometer gun, and thought I’d let you know.
Thanks. I have been watching it but haven’t had any issues yet. For the amount of hats I’ve run through it. I am shocked. It’s still going.
1:20 "i stuck at 25 seconds and 30 for the heat" Say what?
No 300 for heat and 25 to 30 seconds
@@laserengravingwithmatt7833 I bought one and it is now for sale. Vevor won't take it back. Should have bought from Amazon.
so letting it freeze and thaw a couple of times is all it takes to get a ban on your channel, nice.
Freeze? What are you talking about?
