Thank you Markis! Great video, as always!🔥
Appreciate it! Hydbond rules! 💪🏻
Very helpful vid! I like some of those custom patches you've made.
You can do it! They definitely are the best option!
Amazing video! I have a F1 and been struggling with those precut patches with the stitching on them. If you can share what you have found to work with the settings that would be amazing! After watch this video I decided to skip the circuit and go for the bigger hat press. Keep up the great videos!
That all black hat was sick
This was a great and helpful video! Thank you
No problem, glad I could help!
Wow man… great video… ton of value. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! Very helpful video🙏🏻
Appreciate it Clint!
Great video! Thank you. Just ordered hydbond. Cant wait to make my first hat
Awesome good luck!
Such a great video / you are really great at explaining
Thank you, you rule!
Awesome video, gives me something to think about 👍🏼
Appreciate it Brotha! Good luck!
Very good stuff. Thanks
Appreciate it Edmond!
This video is everything I needed thank you very much for that. I already had the hat press nailed out, I just needed to find a good budget, friendly laser machine and you just did that! Fist bump virtual!
Good to hear! Good luck!
I have the exact same press and engraver. I just got the same patches off Amazon. I was wondering what you found was a good rate and depth for engraving on those patches with the xtool d1 pro. Also what a good temperature and time would be for applying the patches to the hats.
Thanks for the great video.
Glad you liked it!
Great video! What settings did you use for the real leather patch you did?
What laser cutting software did you use? Settings with the hydbond that worked for you? Did the hydbond create any gas while it was being lasered?
Looking into getting in this and wanna know if I need to get enclosure for my laser with hydbond.
Awesome! What are your settings for fill travel speed, power and cut speed and power with the XTool D1? Thanks!
will you share your settings for the 40w d1 pro for engraving leather and fake leather ? Thank you for your time
Awesome video! I’m on like step 1 but that hat press you showed is great. The Cricut press is nice but for $47 more I wish I got that press instead. Thanks!
For sure, I ended up having to fix some hats I made with the Cricut press because after awhile they started to peel.
i like your hustle...i would like to start my own business now...lets do this..God Speed !!!
You can do it! Good luck man!
out of all brands/models, which machine(s) would you recommend starting with for leatherette hat patches with the intention of creating a business, I'm looking to spend the least to start and will upgrade machines as needed. I would like plug and play or closest to, and I want to produce a great quality product from the start. Thank You !
Do you have the link for the leather patches?
Hi whats the max engraving area and does the screen have to be down when engraving? thanks
Great work. I have the D1 Pro 20 watt. I keep getting charred stains on real leather. What are your settings? Thanks
Hi, I am brand new to engraving. I just got my X Tool F1 yesterday. I am trying to get my ranch brand engraved on Hydbond Letherette. I need to engrave the brand and cut the shape out. Can you please help me with what my settings I should start with. The letterette is burning and melting. Or where to get information about where to start? Thank you!
Great and informative video, but I do have a question: what settings have you found our best for pre-made leatherette bonding?
I have been making my first few hats, and the patches come out perfectly from my Glowforge, I have found that only the center of the patches are adhering well after being pressed.
For reference, the settings I’m using are 287° for 30 seconds.
Thoughts or suggestions on how I could improve my results?
Do you have a video of the M1 from start to finish on making a hat patch, perferably with the silhouette around the logo?
What settings did you use on your F1 for the blackest engraving?
Would you be willing to share the settings you used for the synthetic leather, hydbond, and real leather? Thank you!
Great video! Best one I've seen! Informative, to the point and loved your co-star. ;-) My Vevor arrives Wednesday. What did you use for your buffer between the patch and the press? Also, for leatherette patches, what temp and times settings do I use? Thanks so much!
My wife sees clothes so I just grab any scrap she has for the buffer. Some materials do work better than others I’ve found. For the settings I do 285 degrees for 60 seconds and I check it frequently. I’ll press for 15 seconds, lift to make sure it looks good and then press for another 30-45 to finish it off.
Thanks so much. Worked like a charm. I have a little tip. I tried using elastic to hold the patch like you did in the video, but it left slight ridges on the patch. So...next one, I warmed up the glue just a tad with my heat gun and put the patch in place. Then I immediately pressed it with the Vevor. It didn't budge and no more marks on the patch. Wah-Lah! Thanks again!

Great, informative video. I didn't see the link to the bulk hats you buy, not on amazon?
I just updated the description, thanks for pointing that out! Alldayshirts.com is most people’s first stop.
What adhesive did you use on the heat press for the real leather hat you made?
Having problems with what temperature and how long should I press. I'm using leatherette patches that have been lasered. My result is dark markings almost like it bled through.
I have Lonestar leatherette sheets with the adhesive already on them and using my F1 X tool... I keep getting a flame alarm when trying to cut! I am using the settings that x tool says to use for their leather patches. I am guessing the settings are off and causing the "flame" that triggers the alarm.. any suggestions on settings for cutting with the x tool F1? I know you said you use the D1 for mass production, but have you used the F1 and can possibly give some tips and settings on using the F1?
Hey, I just started doing patches, engraved my first one yesterday & will be putting it on the hat today from my alldayshirts order, do you ever stitch the patch on or do you only deal with adhesive from doing a heat press? Also have you had any issues of them coming off the hat over time?
I don’t stitch at all although I’d like to try. The only time I had issues with the adhesive coming off was when I was doing them with an iron by hand. Now with the press they are indestructible 💪🏻
Thanks for the video it was great ! What settings are you using on the D1 40w to get such a clean image ? Ours are always so black and not in a nice sharp clear way
For the 40W start out with 30 engrave and 80 cutting power and tweak it from there. Your material might need something a little bit different. I only use air assist when I’m cutting as well. If I use it on engraving it dirties up the engraving
thank you

Dude, fantastic presentation. I own a Glowforge and am VERY interested in this field. I’d love to work with Leatherette, BUT is it safe for my machine?
For sure, but not for you. Make sure you’re vented properly and not breathing it in.
Where can you get cheep embroidered patches
I have 5 hydbond patches I made for the Richardson 112 hat There's a local screen printing place that will use their press to attach them. Any chance you know what time and temperature I should tell him to set these to? He said he didn't know but I thought his press would have that info. Any advice?
250 for 30 seconds then check the appearance and adhesion. If they feel binder we’ll leave it but most people go for longer than 30. It’s a process that allows for some experimentation
What kind of file did you use?
Great video. Do you have a preferred vendor for pre cut and glued patches? I don’t want the cheapest thing made, don’t want the patch falling off.
Crafted Supplies has really sturdy precut stuff. I bought one of each color they offer and they are very rigid
Thanks!!

What are you putting over the leather patch so it doesn't scrotch it? Also, the patches you found on amazon, what was the temp/time for them to adhere right? I seem to be having issues not getting that stuff to adhere.
I use a piece of fabric my wife had laying around but most folks tend to use some kind of silicone. As for temp and time I set it to 280 and press the hat alone for about 10 seconds, then the hat with the patch, elastic band and cloth cover for another 10 seconds then the hat with the patch and cloth cover for another 20-30.
@@TheReformationWoodshopso I have the same hat and the same patches and tried doing it at the 280 for the time stated but I can’t seem to get the corners to stick when doing it. I don’t have the elastic though. Do you think that’s the reason?
Amazing Video! Great stuff bro! Thanks! hahaha I don't co-parent with the government either hahaha
That’s what I’m talking about!
Great video! Considering a D1 pro 10W. Also what software do you use?
I’m using xTools software XCS and it works great. Definitely look into the D1 Pro if your doing hat work. I would suggest the 20W or 40W if your interested in working with thicker materials though. Good luck 👊🏻
What's the adhesive you use for the patch to stick on the hat?
Hydbond. It’s linked in the description 👍🏻
What is the ball called that you're putting in the hat when ironing? I keep getting wrinkles... I feel that would prevent that for sure.
It comes with the cricut heat press. It fits the hats okay but not perfect.
What are you using @ 6:11 ?
I use HydBond but use an iron..this seems like it would work much better! Thanks for the video!
It’s a Cricut heat press made for shirts 🙌🏼
@@TheReformationWoodshop that's better than a $1,000 shirt press...thanks! That's gonna be a game changer!!
Hey buddy i forgot to ask..what are your settings on the xtool and how hot do you set the cricut shirt press when applying the hydbond to the leather? Thanks again!!
What is the software you use to set up the designs on the roll of leather?
XCS which is xTools in house software.
are you getting an outline of center seam on your leatherette patches after pressing?
I have in the past if I apply to much pressure with the machine. All I did to fix it was dial back the knob on the hat press and let the heat do the work and not the pressure
Hi, thank you for the great video. Could you please share wholesale hat seller website. I could not see it on the description. Thank you
Alldayshirts.com 👊🏻
Do you know if this machine would engrave baseball gloves? Thank you!
Absolutely!
Do you ever have an issue with the hydbond adhesive leaking out the edges of your patches when you press them on? Trying to figure out how to stop that from happening!
With the Hydbond I don’t. I did with some cheaper stuff and I think it was because the temp was too high.
The patches you ordered from Amazon. How would you rate them? The reviews are positive and negative all at exact same time. Have you noticed any burning with the heat press? Have you noticed any of the patches not sticking properly?
I have had issues for sure. You can burn them and if you don’t heat the hat they sometimes don’t adhere all the way. I’ve got it down to a science now though so I don’t fumble too much with them anymore.
How do I lesser the wrinkle from the seam down the middle of a hat. Is there anyway to send you a picture to show you what I’m asking
I've had the same issue, if I see it happening I usually stretch the patch out as soon as I pull it off the press because the adhesive is still hot and able to be moved. As for why it happens it may be that we're using to much heat or pressing for too long.
How do you cut the patches to shape so perfectly are you just using scissors?
I pre program the software I use to cut around the design I import. 👍🏻
What kind of engraver is that? I have the hat press and I’ve been subbing out the laser. I want that laser you’re using!!
Its the xTool D1Pro (www.xtool.com/products/xtool-d1-pro-2-in-1-kit-455nm-blue-laser-1064nm-infrared-laser?ref=clSNUlHMSPHtmu&variant=43211209081071)
If you do end up deciding to get your own laser I would wait a couple of days because xTool is about to release a brand new and improved laser!
Markis or anyone that can help! I'm having dramas with the seems in the hats. As they are raised a little a stripe mark is showing through on the leatherette side. I've tried different temps/times but can't work it out. It's like the glue is seeping right through on that seem. It's the same width as the the whole of the seem.
Any ideas? Thanks
I’ve had this same problem and I think the issue is pressure. Try dialing it back… also quality of patches really matters. The Amazon ones has decreased in quality recently.
I have the auto version of the vevor, not quite sure it can dial back, i'll check it out! I think I got the same patches you recommended, any other suggestions that come as easy as that? thanks heaps!@@TheReformationWoodshop
Great video, I have the same hat press for years and do not have the success you have . I find the Richardson hats do not sit right on the platen . I am going to play with your time and temperature. Thank you
They do sit a little funny but it doesn’t cause the patches to malfunction from what I’ve seen so far.
Did you make your own elastic band or is it a custom size for hats you ordered somewhere? I have some heat safe tape I’m considering using, have you tried it?
It’s a band my wife had laying around that I tied to be the right size. 👍🏻
Does that press leave marks on the cap?
It can if your heat and time and tension settings are off. I believe all presses will if your settings aren’t correct.
How do I contact you about ordering some hats
Love your kids, mine were so much fun , enjoy them while they are growing up, Oh yes thanks for the great lesson
Tried a few different cheaper leatherette patches. None seem better then others and are probably just the same ones anyway.
It's looking like I might need to pay 2 or 3 dollars per patch rather then these 30 cent ones!
Forget about the hats .. im just wondering how long San Angelo had a youtube super star 👀
🤣🤣🤣 you better quit playing because I’ll start believing it!
@TheReformationWoodshop 🤣 well that's awesome to know. I'll subscribe.
No doubt! I live in midland and didn’t know he was from Angelo!
Are you a Calvinist bro?
Guess I just don't understand having excellent tools and materials but starting with a crap hat as a base. You always end up with some of those, but they never become a favorite and always end up in the trash.
The most important advice you never hear: do not invest a cent into this busines until you know for sure where will you sell your hats.
What are you diode settings to for engraving and cutting? Power? Speed? Line density?
