I have the exact same press and engraver. I just got the same patches off Amazon. I was wondering what you found was a good rate and depth for engraving on those patches with the xtool d1 pro. Also what a good temperature and time would be for applying the patches to the hats.
Amazing video! I have a F1 and been struggling with those precut patches with the stitching on them. If you can share what you have found to work with the settings that would be amazing! After watch this video I decided to skip the circuit and go for the bigger hat press. Keep up the great videos!
Hi just came across your great video! Question for you what type off cloth did you use on the hat? Also was the med or firm pressure did you use? Thanks!
What laser cutting software did you use? Settings with the hydbond that worked for you? Did the hydbond create any gas while it was being lasered? Looking into getting in this and wanna know if I need to get enclosure for my laser with hydbond.
Great and informative video, but I do have a question: what settings have you found our best for pre-made leatherette bonding? I have been making my first few hats, and the patches come out perfectly from my Glowforge, I have found that only the center of the patches are adhering well after being pressed. For reference, the settings I’m using are 287° for 30 seconds. Thoughts or suggestions on how I could improve my results?

I would like plug and play or closest to, and I want to produce a great quality product from the start. Thank You !
I know the F1 tool may not be the best choice for actually cutting out leather patches out, but if thats the only machine you have, can it cut through leather? Have you tried?
I just recently got the D1 Pro 5W and I am having trouble with the settings and residue anytime I press the patch the black come off on the fabric i’m using to cover the patch or the black spread onto the patch. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? Maybe the settings on how it’s engraving if so can you tell me what settings that needs to be set such as power, speed, distance. Thank you!
Dude, fantastic presentation. I own a Glowforge and am VERY interested in this field. I’d love to work with Leatherette, BUT is it safe for my machine?
Great video! Best one I've seen! Informative, to the point and loved your co-star. ;-) My Vevor arrives Wednesday. What did you use for your buffer between the patch and the press? Also, for leatherette patches, what temp and times settings do I use? Thanks so much!
My wife sees clothes so I just grab any scrap she has for the buffer. Some materials do work better than others I’ve found. For the settings I do 285 degrees for 60 seconds and I check it frequently. I’ll press for 15 seconds, lift to make sure it looks good and then press for another 30-45 to finish it off.
Thanks so much. Worked like a charm. I have a little tip. I tried using elastic to hold the patch like you did in the video, but it left slight ridges on the patch. So...next one, I warmed up the glue just a tad with my heat gun and put the patch in place. Then I immediately pressed it with the Vevor. It didn't budge and no more marks on the patch. Wah-Lah! Thanks again! @@TheReformationWoodshop
Hi. I have recently purchased the same vevor hat press. I know that the pressure is controlled by the knob on top, but how do you tell what a general setting is for the pressure? For example, on another tutorial, a person recommended a medium pressure for a leatherette patch with a trucker hat. What would be a good starting point on that knob to give a medium pressure? I’m trying to avoid a lot of trial and error with the hats and wasting a bunch of money in the process. Thanks!
You can tell how much pressure you’ve applied by how difficult it is to press the handle down. In my experience, you shouldn’t have to fight the handle and it shouldn’t really be clamping so hard. That’ll leave creases in your hats.
hey there, i noticed you kept the cardboard stuff inside the hat when pressing. do you find that helps you in the process? expecting the same press actually in the mail the next few days!
The patches you ordered from Amazon. How would you rate them? The reviews are positive and negative all at exact same time. Have you noticed any burning with the heat press? Have you noticed any of the patches not sticking properly?
I have had issues for sure. You can burn them and if you don’t heat the hat they sometimes don’t adhere all the way. I’ve got it down to a science now though so I don’t fumble too much with them anymore.
A great video! My X-Tool just came in for printing t-shirts as an addition to my other machines and I ca't wait to start working on golf hats. Thanks a lot.
Hi, I am brand new to engraving. I just got my X Tool F1 yesterday. I am trying to get my ranch brand engraved on Hydbond Letherette. I need to engrave the brand and cut the shape out. Can you please help me with what my settings I should start with. The letterette is burning and melting. Or where to get information about where to start? Thank you!
Having problems with what temperature and how long should I press. I'm using leatherette patches that have been lasered. My result is dark markings almost like it bled through.
This video is everything I needed thank you very much for that. I already had the hat press nailed out, I just needed to find a good budget, friendly laser machine and you just did that! Fist bump virtual!
I have Lonestar leatherette sheets with the adhesive already on them and using my F1 X tool... I keep getting a flame alarm when trying to cut! I am using the settings that x tool says to use for their leather patches. I am guessing the settings are off and causing the "flame" that triggers the alarm.. any suggestions on settings for cutting with the x tool F1? I know you said you use the D1 for mass production, but have you used the F1 and can possibly give some tips and settings on using the F1?
Hey buddy i forgot to ask..what are your settings on the xtool and how hot do you set the cricut shirt press when applying the hydbond to the leather? Thanks again!!
Is it possible to do a dtf transfer on these leather patches and then heat press the patch on the hat? This will be my first time making hats excuse me if this is a stupid question lol thanks for any info
@@TheReformationWoodshop thanks for your response and do you know any cheap laser engraver machines as im just starting the hat business? Thanks in advance!
Awesome video! I’m on like step 1 but that hat press you showed is great. The Cricut press is nice but for $47 more I wish I got that press instead. Thanks!
What are you putting over the leather patch so it doesn't scrotch it? Also, the patches you found on amazon, what was the temp/time for them to adhere right? I seem to be having issues not getting that stuff to adhere.
I use a piece of fabric my wife had laying around but most folks tend to use some kind of silicone. As for temp and time I set it to 280 and press the hat alone for about 10 seconds, then the hat with the patch, elastic band and cloth cover for another 10 seconds then the hat with the patch and cloth cover for another 20-30.
@@TheReformationWoodshopso I have the same hat and the same patches and tried doing it at the 280 for the time stated but I can’t seem to get the corners to stick when doing it. I don’t have the elastic though. Do you think that’s the reason?
Hey, I just started doing patches, engraved my first one yesterday & will be putting it on the hat today from my alldayshirts order, do you ever stitch the patch on or do you only deal with adhesive from doing a heat press? Also have you had any issues of them coming off the hat over time?
I don’t stitch at all although I’d like to try. The only time I had issues with the adhesive coming off was when I was doing them with an iron by hand. Now with the press they are indestructible 💪🏻
Thanks for the video it was great ! What settings are you using on the D1 40w to get such a clean image ? Ours are always so black and not in a nice sharp clear way
For the 40W start out with 30 engrave and 80 cutting power and tweak it from there. Your material might need something a little bit different. I only use air assist when I’m cutting as well. If I use it on engraving it dirties up the engraving
Do you ever have an issue with the hydbond adhesive leaking out the edges of your patches when you press them on? Trying to figure out how to stop that from happening!
I have in the past if I apply to much pressure with the machine. All I did to fix it was dial back the knob on the hat press and let the heat do the work and not the pressure
Great video, I have the same hat press for years and do not have the success you have . I find the Richardson hats do not sit right on the platen . I am going to play with your time and temperature. Thank you
I have 5 hydbond patches I made for the Richardson 112 hat There's a local screen printing place that will use their press to attach them. 250 for 30 seconds then check the appearance and adhesion. If they feel binder we’ll leave it but most people go for longer than 30. It’s a process that allows for some experimentation
I have been noticing a dark area on the patches there the seems are. I have a soft cloth over the patch to protect from the heat but I can not figure out how to make this any better. Any ideas?
It may be a quality issue with the patches you are using or it may be a pressure issue with your machine. You can loosen the knob that applies pressure and see how that helps. Are the patches you have from Amazon?
I've had the same issue, if I see it happening I usually stretch the patch out as soon as I pull it off the press because the adhesive is still hot and able to be moved. As for why it happens it may be that we're using to much heat or pressing for too long.
I’m using xTools software XCS and it works great. Definitely look into the D1 Pro if your doing hat work. I would suggest the 20W or 40W if your interested in working with thicker materials though. Good luck 👊🏻
Tried a few different cheaper leatherette patches. None seem better then others and are probably just the same ones anyway. It's looking like I might need to pay 2 or 3 dollars per patch rather then these 30 cent ones!
I tried ordering leatherette patches from Amazon but when I tried to iron one onto an apron the heat from the iron didn't make the adhesive stick. It was very disappointing.
Since uploading this video, I’ve ordered Amazon patches, and I think their quality has decreased. I’m gonna stick with using Hydbond patches and adhesive.
Did you make your own elastic band or is it a custom size for hats you ordered somewhere? I have some heat safe tape I’m considering using, have you tried it?

I’ve had this same problem and I think the issue is pressure. Try dialing it back… also quality of patches really matters. The Amazon ones has decreased in quality recently.

I can get hats.. I'm having trouble getting people who laser engrave. I don't want to do that.. I just create the art. I have customers who order 24 at a time.
Hey if you're still in need of someone who laser engraves, I can help!
The most important advice you never hear: do not invest a cent into this busines until you know for sure where will you sell your hats.
